I love Enduro! I came in third place in an Enduro tourney and won a t-shirt with the box art on it. Wish I still had it, even if it wouldn't come close to fitting anymore.

Back in the day my favorites were probably Missile Command, Asteroids, Space Invaders, original Breakout, Adventure, Video Pinball, Bowling, and, perhaps oddly, Miniature Golf. Today I've become fond of some I didn't have back then: Midnight Magic, Yars' Revenge, Star Voyager. And some modern games from the remarkably active 2600 homebrew scene.
I went back to play Miniature Golf a few years ago, to see if I could improve my best score. I had marked where to put the cursor in the manual to get a chance to make a hole-in-one. I succeeded, but couldn't beat the logbook challenge for Golf. With the good graphics in Activision games, it's too bad they didn't make a version instead of making their own version of checkers.
Thanks for uploading! I played almost all of them 35 years ago when i was a kid. Now It reminds me of how simple and enjoyable games are in those times. 🤩
Oh the memories! Time flies when your having fun! The music and the sound effects give me flashbacks of playing for hours with best friends sleepover parties playing Atari, watching horror movies Benny Hill, and Saturday Night Live. I remember getting chip grease on the controllers trying to beat the high score with your buddies. I liked ice hockey, football, Raiders of the Lost Ark, jungle hunt, river raid, track and field, astroids and frogger. Good times!
River Raid was one of my favourite games on the Atari 2600! Also one that wasn't mentioned here was Asteroids! I never got to play the arcade version, but I loved the Atari port!
Emulate it on MAME. Space Duel was an even better arcade game....same principal but with colored polygon shapes. Add to that a two-player game where you could be tethered together.....so when one player uses thrust, it's pulling you with them!
It was THE first easter egg! 🙂🙂 I found mine in '81. Edit: Hmmm, story has been updated... "Starship 1, an Atari arcade game from 1977, may actually have the first Easter egg. In Starship 1, the message "Hi Ron!" appears on-screen and the player is awarded 10 extra lives. The secret was discovered in 2017 through an interview with the game's engineer, Ron Milner."
I had a friend of mine who had a 2600. We would play that for hours. Wow have things changed with computer games. Those days are long gone, but those memories are still damn good.
I liked Pole Position in the Arcade but never finished the 4 or 5 laps, like in the home game. The latter didn't have much excitement and after winning, there's not much replayability at home because times were so close.
Raiders was ahead of its time as an adventure/puzzle game. The absolute sheer joy when after days of playing and exploring you'd find something "new," even if you didn't have the context to understand how it fit into the game itself. Maybe it was important, maybe it was a red herring. I remember excitedly running into my parents room while they were both sleeping, screaming because I had found the map room... and then a few days later when I discovered the "sun" rising in it... No walkthrough guides, no internet... just trial and error. A fully immersive game that took a LOT of time and effor to "beat."
Some of my favorites; Tunnel Runner - Great 3D maze game. Other games tried to do 3D, but they were often a confusing mess. Tunnel Runner got it just right. I'd rate the game as perfect if they had managed to use a unique image for the back of the monsters, rather than using the same image for when they're facing you and when they're moving away. Starmaster - More playable than the 2600 version of Star Raiders. Phaser Patrol - Another Star Raiders clone for the Starpath Supercharger. Solaris - Impressive game. To be honest, I never got very far into it, but I enjoyed playing it. Robot Tank - Better than the 2600 Battlezone. The way the enemy tanks seemed to be 3D impressed me at the time.
Atari is a bit before my time (I was an SNES/Genesis kid) but my dad used to tell me about Atari and the Odyssey 2 all the time as a kid. I ended up meeting another kid at my apartment complex who had an Atari, and we played Defender and Asteroids for hours. I felt like I was in a time capsule or something. Recently I took my son to a local restaurant, and they had an Atari 2600 hooked up to an old TV for the customers to play. I showed him how the old video games used to look (he grew up with XB360 and PS4) and he actually was really interested. I had to go out and find a 2600 at a retro game store so we could own one. I didn't realize that it was even before the AV cables were a thing, so now I have to find an adapter or a TV old enough to play it lol.
The good ole days. I remember we got Atari 2600 for xmas when it first came out. Pac man cartdrige was $90 but a must have. As kids, my sisters and I went nuts when we opened the box and saw it. Lol Great memories
Defender was the first game me and my brother played on Atari 2600 in 1982 (I was 11, my brother 10). Pressure Cooker, Demon Attack, Fantastic Voyage, Oink, Galaxian, Donkey Kong, Sea Quest, Smurfs, Freeway, ....
These Top 10-20-50 Atari games lists are so fun. I usually agree with about 3 out of every 10 choices. If you include Activision games, Pitfall 2 is my favourite.
Imagic Atlantis was a nice variation on Missile Command. Space Cavern was interesting, too. Galaxians came later, but it was really well adapted. I preferred it to Space Invaders. Stargate was also really well adapted. It looked a lot better than Defender. Also, Berserk is worth mentioning.

@@ROMBomb001 Wait, wrong game! The game where you rescue hostages is actually on Sega Master System; sorry for misleading information, both games have helicopters. 😅😭😭😭
Brings back very early childhood memories. Hero would have been fun, but we didn't have that one. I loved playing Asteroids, Haunted House and Adventure. Oh, and Empire Strikes Back was great too.
Hell even Riddle of the Sphinx, LOL! This top 10 list is very amateur. The only 4 that really belong on it are River Raid, Pitfall(both by Activision ofc) Mizz PacMan, and I *guess maybe* pole position(more like meh)....the rest on list are early 77-79 Atari trash games which were fun but not the best by any means. Glad Yars Revenge got an honorable mention at least though, LOL! (And it's not in my top 10...maybe top 20 or 30 though)
Growing up high school in the 90s was the best of my life. Hanging out at the arcade place and play billiards was the thing back then. Can someone build me a Time Machine?
I don't know how you broke the joystick on river raid, maybe out of frustration in higher levels. ;-) /just teasing you/ However we did actually (me and my brother) broke few joysticks during "Summer Games" and alike. It felt like we were actually running.
Here's my list, based upon how much I enjoyed the games and how often I'd play them. Something most younger people don't realize is that in the late 70's and early 80's, no one called it the 2600...it was just Atari. Just like a few years later no one said NES, it was just Nintendo. Enough rambling (get off of my lawn!), here's my top 10: 10. Circus Atari 9. Space Invaders 8. Demon Attack 7. H.E.R.O. 6. River Raid 5. Stargate 4. Pitfall! 3. StarMaster 2. Yar's Revenge And...drum roll please... #1. Adventure - One my favorite albums is Queen The Game released in 1980 featuring....you guessed it, Dragon Attack. It was a perfect blend of music and technology. Now, go read a book!😃
Right, it wasn't branded the "Atari 2600" until there was an Atari 5200. It was officially the "Video Computer System", but that name wasn't informally used much either.
@@colinmerritt7645 Perhaps you are older than me or worked in the industry. But no one I knew, as kids, called it the 2600, there was no reason to. If you had a "real" computer like the 400/800, TRS-80, or Apple II...that was understood. We didn't even call it the VCS. Nope just Atari. "Hey Johnny, follow me on our bikes after school and we can play Atari at my house," for example. No one was thinking Atari 400/800 because home computers were still rare.
@@tempestfury8324 Oh I'm not saying you're wrong. We just had different experiences. Regardless of what we call her, I loved my Atari. My father died and mother had to work, so it got me past many lonely afternoons and evenings.

@@wizzgamer I cannot express my feelings I am so much excited. After several years I play this game again. Now I am 41 of my age and in my childhood when I first time I played this game I was just 10 years old.
I only found out a few years ago Pitfall can be beat by collecting all 32 treasures before time runs out which is why only certain tunnels should be used and touching wrong items drains the time. It's not easy to finish and requires strategy and planning. Both Pitfalls can be beaten. I would also include Jr. Pacman and Millipede as honorable mentions but good list 👍👍
I was beginning to wonder if you were going to mention Pitfall. I was about to throw this list in the garbage until you totally redeemed yourself lol. Defender should have had a mention though
I never agreed with a list on the youtube like this one before. It just brought up my memories back. I used to play with my dad, when he was still alive Thank you Atari for taking really important part in my life
My childhood top ten and I still own them with there boxes Yar's revenge Star Wars Empire Strikes Back River raid Warlords Missle Command Chopper Command Demon Attack Kaboom Megamania Defenders
It's Decathlon not Decatlon. But I agree. So many great and underrated games on the 2600.... Berzerk could have made the list too, Sure it's not a patch on the original arcade, but it's a great conversion given the hardware limitations
Corrections: Combat was not single player. Pole Position did not have multiple tracks for the 2600 version. Space invaders had little similarity to the arcade. I like the idea, but I don’t like one rushing these videos out just to be the first without actual care for the system and history.
Raiders of the lost ark on the 2600 is one of my earliest memories. I used to love renting the games out. Loved the box art to. It mesmerised me as a kid.
I remember pole position ! I use to play it in my Atari all the time. Our father got a Atari game console for us. Then he got us a Apple IIe and then a IBM PC/XT. We also had a commodore 64. Life was good in the 80s. I was around 12 at that time.... miss those lovely childhood times
Same here. Played Pitfall constantly. However, it did finally have an ending. It took a long time to get to, and I only reached it a few times, but this is what it looked like: ua-cam.com/video/HKgJ4BXrnPw/v-deo.html

@@irfanafendi4837 Sounds like an interesting feature. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for responding :-)
Oh, and Empire Strikes Back was great too.
river raid was my favorite game, HERO was Helicopter Emergency Rescue Operation!
Mine too!
Oh yeah
Mine was Minecraft
Mine is Just cause 3!
I missed Frostbite, Seaquest, Laser Gate & Montezuma's Revenge in your list - top notch.
I think Raiders of the lost arc should be replaced with either jungle hunt, or moon patrol.
I don't know what to replace it with, but I agree... Raiders sucked some serious a--😁.
Bezerk maybe?
Pitfall 2: Lost Caverns?
Hell even Riddle of the Sphinx, LOL! This top 10 list is very amateur. The only 4 that really belong on it are River Raid, Pitfall(both by Activision ofc) Mizz PacMan, and I *guess maybe* pole position(more like meh)....the rest on list are early 77-79 Atari trash games which were fun but not the best by any means.
Glad Yars Revenge got an honorable mention at least though, LOL! (And it's not in my top 10...maybe top 20 or 30 though)
Sigh..... nice memories and sweet 'warm' games from the past! Nice of you to make this video.. :)
My top 10, in no particular order: Moonsweeper, Pitfall II, Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Atlantis, Solaris, Midnight Magic, River Raid, Phoenix, Seaquest.
Hero?
Growing up high school in the 90s was the best of my life. Hanging out at the arcade place and play billiards was the thing back then. Can someone build me a Time Machine?
Damn i used to break my joystick in river raid & Eduru racing game.
I don't know how you broke the joystick on river raid, maybe out of frustration in higher levels. ;-) /just teasing you/
However we did actually (me and my brother) broke few joysticks during "Summer Games" and alike. It felt like we were actually running.
God bless my father's soul ...
Am really crying....
Am 39 yrs ...
Just remember my father's gift when I was 6 !!!
Thx for the video
Here's my list, based upon how much I enjoyed the games and how often I'd play them. Something most younger people don't realize is that in the late 70's and early 80's, no one called it the 2600...it was just Atari. Just like a few years later no one said NES, it was just Nintendo.
Enough rambling (get off of my lawn!), here's my top 10:
10. Circus Atari
9. Space Invaders
8. Demon Attack
7. H.E.R.O.
6. River Raid
5. Stargate
4. Pitfall!
3. StarMaster
2. Yar's Revenge
And...drum roll please...
Sorry, that's not how I remember it. We called it the 2600 to differentiate from the Atari 400/800 computer line.
Adventure yes...👍 thank you
my dear thanks a ton for this wonderful video.....
I used to play for hours with this and sometimes till late In the night or may be till early morning.
GOOOOOOD OLD MEMORIES...
Excellent choice for #1 although I would tie ADVENTURE with it
This brings back many happy memories. Thank you.
You forgot Adventure. This still is a classic and a wonderful 2600 game! Shame you at least didn't give it an honorable mention.
Was probably too hard for him.
What a such beautiful days. this video takes me back more than 30 years ago.
Best regards to everyone from Egypt from the land of the pyramids.
Remember various: Chopper Comand, Seaquest, Jungle Hunt, Bermuda, Presure, etc.
ah yes, Seaquest. and to think I've come from these low beginnings to being inside the submarine exocraft in No Man's Sky in VR...
Marvelous uploading thanks for this. In 1993 I first time play this Atari game and number 4 game river raid was my most favourite game. You cannot imagine that how much I am happy to see this. I have in my imagine the game of river red but I don't know the name of this game. From your this video finally I found my favourite game river raid immediately download from PlayStation and play a lot thank you very much love you take care
@@AbdulHafeezQamar1718 Thanks for watching glad you found the name of the game and can relive those happy memories from years past ☺️
@@wizzgamer I cannot express my feelings I am so much excited. After several years I play this game again. Now I am 41 of my age and in my childhood when I first time I played this game I was just 10 years old.
Does anyone remember the Easter egg in the Adventure game?
me
No.
Not me.
I have never played the game at all.
Thanks for sharing, very fond memories of my Father getting me my First Atari Games around 1989 - 1990 :-)
If you do make a pitfall Tabletop arcade add jungle sound effects to the cabinet.
We got our 2600 in the late 70's. River Raid was my favorite game.
I was beginning to wonder if you were going to mention Pitfall. I was about to throw this list in the garbage until you totally redeemed yourself lol. Defender should have had a mention though
Defender, Asteroids and mostly "the Empire strikes back" were the titles duly missed... Pitfall deserves the top spot.
Stargate, the sequel to Defender was even better.... especially on the 2600.
I never agreed with a list on the youtube like this one before.
It just brought up my memories back. I used to play with my dad, when he was still alive
Thank you Atari for taking really important part in my life
My childhood top ten and I still own them with there boxes
Yar's revenge
Star Wars Empire Strikes Back
River raid
Warlords
Missle Command
Chopper Command
Demon Attack
Kaboom
Megamania
Defenders
My first console......I remember being amazed that I could control what was happening on the TV lol :)
Same for me!
How about Solaris?
I love how the background music is sonic the hedgehog from Sega.
Montezuma's revenge? Moon Patrol? Decatlon? Adventure? Wizard of wor?
Where is moon patrol?
It's Decathlon not Decatlon. But I agree. So many great and underrated games on the 2600....
Berzerk could have made the list too, Sure it's not a patch on the original arcade, but it's a great conversion given the hardware limitations
I use to play this as well as my father brought this for me back in late 80 , well my father pass away 20 years now , some memories.
World has been changed rapidly.i think i become old.very veey old
I've heard of and played everyone of those games except Hero. Never heard of it before watching this video. Great list.
Oh finally selected the pitfall, good choice 👍, I remember all of them.... time goes fast
Man, this is rudimentary. But it has so much charm
I legit believe some of these are incredible
OMG, Good old days ...
So lucky to have been a kid during the Atari days. Life was so simple. My parents bought me the Atari 2600 on Christmas 1980.
Corrections: Combat was not single player. Pole Position did not have multiple tracks for the 2600 version. Space invaders had little similarity to the arcade. I like the idea, but I don’t like one rushing these videos out just to be the first without actual care for the system and history.
Relax, it's going to be ok. Video games are just games ment to entertain and pass the time. Let's not take it so serious.
Thanx for reviving those sweet memories of my first ever console. 😍🙌🕹️👾💯
what happened with Asteroids!!?
Those of us who still Love Atari now play Space Rocks! Cheers!
Moon Patrol (1982) !!
It didn't make his list of favorite games.
Raiders of the lost ark on the 2600 is one of my earliest memories. I used to love renting the games out. Loved the box art to. It mesmerised me as a kid.
I remember playing "Pitfall" not long afer it came out and I believe that was around 1979-1980!
Seems older, but Pitfall! was released on April 20, 1982. Just in case ya wondered...
@@AnarchyDragon6 👍
I remember pole position ! I use to play it in my Atari all the time. Our father got a Atari game console for us. Then he got us a Apple IIe and then a IBM PC/XT. We also had a commodore 64. Life was good in the 80s. I was around 12 at that time.... miss those lovely childhood times
Thank you for adding enduro.
I just ordered myself a home retro gaming system and can't wait to try some of the classic games I never got a chance to play as a kid.
I used to play pitiful all day all night that game never had an ending, there was no ending
Same here. Played Pitfall constantly. However, it did finally have an ending. It took a long time to get to, and I only reached it a few times, but this is what it looked like: ua-cam.com/video/HKgJ4BXrnPw/v-deo.html
@@ElaineBenes99🧐 WOW 😲, so there really was an ending, thanks for showing me that, after all these years I always believed there was no end to pitfall
Pitfall did have a ending and if you could finish it in 20 minutes and take a picture Activision would send you a patch. I got one.
A great part of our childhood in the past ..we can't forget those days .
Sweet memories.. And a "damn I'm getting old" right next to it ;-)
David Cady it's true
That’s a solid top 10, well done!
Thanks Adam
Watching this, and suddenly I'm back in 1982...
My first video game console, when I was a kid.
Only had LCD screen 1-game handhelds before.
The joysticks broke like no tomorrow...but I loved this thing.
And these games still have better gameplay and experience than most AAA games today.
