Thanks for the tip on the roofing tape. I'm getting ready to put new carpet in my 87 GTA and was going to buy a bunch of Dynamat. The roofing tape will save me some money.
ScarabChris thank you I’m glad you found it helpful. Ya the roofing tape will save you a lot of money when comparing it to dynamat. Just make sure to clean the dust and dirt off everything your applying it too
Great video. I just bought an 88 IROC convertible with 56,000 miles. Interior is perfect, but stinks. I will probably have to pull it out and might follow your advice on soundproofing and love the idea for the sub box.
I bought the precut carpet for the front of my '91 Camaro on eBay and asked a local auto upholstery what they charged to install it. They wanted $100 and I said hell no. Too make a long story short I would have paid twice of what they wanted if I'd known the hassle it took to install it.
Actually $100 doesn't sound all that bad, I know its time consuming. Carpet is on my list, I may see what local upholstery shops near me change. I'm thinking it might be worth it, I'd like to have brand new carpet but I just don't have all day to install it, we'll see.
So here is a tip when finishing up upholstery...steam it! Takes out the wrinkles and makes it curve to the surfaces.:) Hope those seats are getting changed too! not a great colour at all!LOL
Hmm I'm not sure about that price. I think I paid around 300 for both of mine together. You might be able to get some at hawks or find decent used carpet on ebay
It has held up great only area I have an issue is the passenger door hangs and scraps the panel across the bottom but as soon as I fix the door and repaint it. It will be fine
What grit sandpaper did you use to scrape off the old paint? I have the same issue of the previous owner painting everything in the car (even the fabric parts too)
If I remember correctly I started with like 800 then 1000 then like 1200. I can't remember exactly but I know it was fine sand paper and I continued to soak the sand paper and wet sand it. I didn't get all the old paint off just a majority. Just Enough to get the paint to adhere good to the pieces.
Hmm no I do not but it should be over in the roofing area. By the vents and stuff that you put in garage roofs and stuff it is ment for sealing around vent pipes

JasonMisterDude get the aluminum tar tape from Home Depot or Lowe’s. It’s used for patching roofs. Then the other insulation is the NASA insulation found on eBay.
I would say 30 or 40 in wood materials with screws. Maybe 15 in fabric and adhesive for the wood. So under 100. Then if you wanted all new carpet in the rear it's an additional 120
Hell thank you for making all these videos.!! Their great. I’m slowly watching all your vids here and there going to get started on my 1987 z28. It’s been sitting far too long. When you wet sanded what was the materials you used ? Thanks
Thanks glad you enjoyed. I'll be making more videos soon I need to do more to mine and get it on the road again. The wet sanding was just alot of water and high grit sand paper. I want to say I used 1000 to 3000. It's been along time since then. Then after that I used a primer/paint adhesive spray. Then after that I coated everything with a few layers of vinyl and fabric paint. Non gloss.
You know that you only need 25% coverage with the foil backed tar paper right? You dont get any additional benefits from 100% coverage. You wasted a bunch of it in the hatch for no reason
Not true, depends on what your using it for,. As far as coverage for panel vibration noise itself yes. But these are also used for many other uses. Round square corners inside of vehicle and boxes to better direct noise, used to help reduce exterior vehicle noises and also a good additional insulator to help control temps inside of a vehicle. So I wouldn't say it's for no reason.
