I've been a sleep technologist for 19 years and I absolutely love it 💜💜💜 I'm going to nursing school to become an NP in sleep!
Yes! We need more NPs who actually know sleep out there!! Go get it!
@THAT GOES WHERE?!? I’ve been a tech for about two years or so now. Really depends on the lab of course but for Washington state it’s about 20-25 for certified tech/non certified and 25+ for registered techs. But it depends on the current circumstance of the lab lol
@THAT GOES WHERE?!? yes the pay is good/decent. I make 28 an hour. To become an NP you need to go to nursing school (RN) then get your masters degree. So it's a lot of school, but will be worth it i hope!
What course did you take?
Thank you for you service...
On the job training wow what a gift 🙏💗☀️
after I lost my job and was tested positive for the covid during my quarantine I decided to go for sleep tech I am a trainee now still didn’t get my licence waiting for ever 😩 I started the modules to save some time and to stay positiiiiiveeeee😁
I am confused between a sleep tech and an eeg tech which one do u think is better
@@khaliyakhan2625 depends on what you’re looking for. I feel like EEG is more fast paced and PSG is just so chilled honestly. You’re probably in with the patient 4 hours during the night
@@Liam___ohara___ I work as both and you’re correct.
How do you get started in this?
Oh, I believe! I am able to do this Job. And I! been doing Nurse Aide 20 years for Assistants Living. Now i would like to do this interesting Job.!🙏❤️👍
Very cool, Jonathan. I can’t believe I’m just seeing this.
Im currently doing the A-Step right now 😊
Did you take a class like at a college/university to get the training?
@@HudjamMan No, I worked as a CNA for quite awhile. I get on the job training. Should be taking my boards later this year.
Being a sleep technologist it is very hard to awake at night after all you are giving challenge to nature. I understand because I am also a sleep technologist.
@My Channel I m living in India 🇮🇳 second there are very few hosptl which recruit only sleep technologist as there are very few pt. Who realy aware of what the problem they hv.. Here in India technologist not reruit for only sleep but entire respiratory deptt eg bronch PFT.
What I have to do to become a sleep tec
It is not as hard for us Night owls but society runs on 9-5 jobs and that doesn’t help with doing basic errands on my schedule. I have to go out in the morning’s bright sun after work and do them. Then I don’t want to sleep after being in the sun.
I’m looking for programs and can’t find anything
How can you get started this
So if I was to complete the A-Step Program online and pass the board exam. Would that make me a registered sleep technologist or is there another step needed?
Yes it will make you a registered tech in the state you take the exam.
You'll be a RPSGT. washington state pays good. At my current lab I make somewhere around 28-34. Not gonna say it up here lol. And I've been doing it for 6 years
Thank you both!
@@islandflavah6928I’m thinking about going into the field to make more money, do you think it’s meant for somebody like me? I currently mange a department in a chicken factory after I got my degree in English and I just feel it’s time for a change. What’s crazy I went to a nursing school but never seen myself trying something like this.
I didnt know that this is a field, but how can I take the A-Step?
Hi Mario, more information about the A-STEP can be found here: astep.aasm.org/. I hope this helps.
@@upskillhouston9801 thanks
Could the ASTEP 80 hour course be done online or does it have to be done in an in person setting?
Hi Maryhihi,
Here is some information on the course from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine: astep.aasm.org/80-hour-introductory-course/
Im going to school for Medical Assisting. Are there jobs out there that I can still get hired at sleep disorder clinics???
Do medical assistants make less hourly compared to sleep techs?
@@ThotCrimes84 Well, I graduated last May. I live in Oregon & I started out at $17 hourly. 2nd clinic I made $20 hourly. Now 3rd clinic working in Dermatology currently making $25 hourly + great benefits (free health insurance), paid vacation, etc. Honestly I kinda just got lucky....🤷♀️ but I ❤️ what I'm doing now. You just have to keep tip towing around to get the money you deserve✊️ and it depends where you live 😕
In L.A., sleep techs can get over $100,000 per year.
Would this job be feasible for someone who is confined to a wheelchair?
A daytime position would probably be easier for you. To be 100% honest it would be difficult to reach the pt while in bed to adjust wires, CPAP, etc.
You can go for heart monitor tech just watching the computers and documenting
@@savourexetpascher9046 is that job stressful and is it hard to get hired without any experience
I would say no
Look into Monitor Tech for EKG’s… there’s a shortage and perfect for someone in a wheelchair.
Where did you take your A-Step online?
Hi Sabrina, the A-STEP can be found here: astep.aasm.org/. I hope this is helpful.
@@upskillhouston9801 can u use this program to be licensed?
How much do you make an hour, how much experience do you have and what state are you in?
Really depends on which state you live in. In Washington for example (where I live) you can work without being registered and make $20-25 an hour. Depends also on the lab and how needed they are with techs. If you look on the BRPT there are pages where you look for more info
How do you get started in Washington? I’m located in western Wa and I can’t find any classes or programs to get registered. How do you get your foot in the door? Thank you 🙏🏼
@@noahpadme2494 go on Indeed. It might be some places offering paid training on there.
@@noahpadme2494 concorde college in Portland. About 18,000 dollars for a 8 month program. Talk to Barbara.
When I was in San Diego, the rate were around $30-40+ per hour with more than 5 years experience. In Los Angeles, it’s common to see $45+ per hour work. But if you’re just starting, of course, you will start lower. But L.A. is definitely one of the highest paying counties I’ve ever worked at.
Is a sleep technologist a high stress level career?
No
Very low :) trust me it’s nice
@haley6274 how many patients do you have a night?
Fell asleep during this video
I think that means it worked 😂
lol
Well that option failed
Worst part is my family supported me damn I'm a douchebag
I partied at a house and got arrested and couldn't qualify for med school. The dream is dead I think I'll harass homeless people to forget about being a disappointment to my dad.
