Hello, Sir. Thanks so much for your comment. I actually met Judith, Brynn, Robin, Margaret and a few others at Judith's fan club gatherings in NYC when I was a very young man. They were both very nice with Brynn being especially warm and personable. I have pictures of her wrapping her arms around us fans and taking photos. Such a lovely woman. How did you like working with Jacqueline Courtney ? I've always thought she was such a beautiful woman.
Judith Light was MAGNIFICENT as Karen Wolek! She brought such a vulnerability that made you feel for her and the pain she was going through. I still remember when she was on the stand and had to confess to being ahooked. Very riveting storyline, still brings tears to my eyes. I can see why she won back to back Emmys for her role.
Thank you so much for the upload. My mom would use fresh start and it smelled horrible, it's a blast to see a commercial for it. Am so glad that the actor who plays Bo dropped the accent he was using.
A year later Judith starred in Who's The Boss. Outstanding actress, especially the 1978 court scene. She went to elementary school with my late sister in Trenton NJ
Do you happen to remember the obsession that Dr. Ivan Kipling had with Karen Wolek? I want to see those full episodes. That character was really sick, mentally sick. I recall those episodes being those that had you on pins and needles...
This was a sad but great ending for this brilliant, tortured, vulnerable, character. Judith light was brilliant. There will never be soap operas or storylines like this.
Light was asked to return, but declined because she said Karen’s life in Llanview was over. A shame they didn’t even mention her when Jenny was killed.
I watched all my children n one life ever since 78 to the very last episodes. I love being able to go back in time when life was all about watching soaps. I recorded n watch after my kids were in bed .
Omg thank you for this old video! It's from Philly. Just saw the commercial with Dave Roberts when he started in Philly on Am Philadelphia! What a blast from my past. Great to look back at storylines I didn't understand as a kid , old characters and actors who have long passed. Can't forget those corny commercials. Thank you for the memories.
You're very welcome. I was in college at Temple University when I taped this on my VCR. Haha. Remember the old rabbit ears antenna? Check out my channel for other OLTL episodes that I transferred to digital.
Thanks for the Phikky blast from the past! Greatly appreciate it. I was in the I guess the 6th grade when Karen's trial was happening. I could only watch on snow days and vacations. People don't know Dave Robert's is dad to actor David Boneranz tv's Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.. Love the videos!
Looking back on this four decades later, what the show touched on (but really didn't delve into too deeply) was that Karen was a woman who had serious mental health issues. A good part of that came from traumatic experiences, but the show was more interested in the "drama" that stemmed from whatever situation she was in rather than what was going on inside her head. She was a woman who struggled but never found peace within herself. There were periods of happiness she had but she knew that inside of her was someone who would always be at war with herself.
But Woohooboy is not talking about multiple personalities here. Karen did indeed have mental health issues stemming from multiple traumas in her childhood and also adulthood. Unchecked issues as people always seemed to brush her off and say, “Karen can take care of herself.” But Karen was hurting deeply and needed therapy. Leaving Llanview May have been good for her, but she still needed therapy.
I have two more coming up. I uploaded the day after this episode (Karen's last day), but UA-cam rejected it for copyright reasons. Sure can't figure out that logic. Haha. I'll try again soon.
@@foryourviewingpleasure966 hey ther thanks again really appreciate it!!!!try to desguise the title as much as you can peraphs.as i said this is the best era of OLTL!!!!!hope u got more.loving it
When this was first broadcast, I remember thinking "This is really weird. All of the history with Larry she cut off like that. It was a quickie way out for Judith Light.
What a respectable, realistic way for a person to exit town , a relationship, the series...im glad they didnt recast her or just have her 'die' in an accident that wouldnt have provided the proper closure.
Wow, that Shelley Burch is stunning. It's almost like they had the whole cast of "NINE" on this show at one point - with Ms. Burch, and Taina Elg, and I believe Anita Morris had a gig one day. "NINE Lives to Live"? ;)
Haha. Yes.....but it always started as a good intention gone wrong or because she was a very wounded person herself. I think that's why the audience always loved her and forgave her. She was never mean or malicious.
@@erikandrus4387 Hey........Thanks. From all of the interviews I've seen with Judith, she approached the role in that way. She knew there was a person deep inside that was multi layered. I think she really tapped into what goes on inside all of us, but so few are aware of. That's why the audiences loved that character.....they could really relate to her vulnerability.
Judith Light made the Karen Wolek role all her own. Despite being a prostitute for Marco and a baby switcher, she had a heart of gold who did love her family and friends. She did a TREMENDOUS job in this role! She made the viewers love her because of her vulnerability and sadness even though she tried to put on a brave face and front and tried to do the right thing. I am crying now for her. Bravo, Judith, you did a beautiful job!
AFter Judith left the show I lost interst in the show. They tried to turn it into Dallas when the Buchannans took over. I wasnt down for that. I stopped watching. Ironically GH was getting better and better under Gloria Monty. Even without Luke and Laura GH was the best soap of the 80s.
I remember when Karen did leave Larry for Steve Piermont. Remember in real-life the man who played Steve was and I think is Judith Light's husband. I only started watching in Dec of 1981. I missed the trial of 1979 especially when Herb savagely crossed-examined Karen during Viki's trial. I have seen the clips. Anyway, I was always rooting for Larry and Karen. Yet they were not meant to last. Karen could not stay out of trouble, and she did not want to live a "square" life. Marco always wanted a square life with Edwina and later Megan. Yet it was not meant to be for him either. Judith Light went to Who's the Boss? and further TV success.
You know.....she may have. At this point, she was already out of Llanview and getting ready to run away with Steve. And I can't remember if she said goodbye to the people in Llanview or not.
@@foryourviewingpleasure966 I am with you, smart money says given the writers they had then, they would have had some moment between the two that established a 'good-bye'.
So Karen didn't get in trouble for switching babies or was she on the run ? What's sad is Karen really has this feeling that she is not worthy of people in her life like dr Larry her sister nurse Jenny publisher friend viki it's sad. Like she thinks she deserves to be less than. I did not watch as I was not born when Karen was on the stand & started watching in 89 but I've heard so much about Karen & what's sad is Judith said she did not want to leave oltl b/c she was happy there won emmys had best friends to this day but the man playing Piermont is her real life husband & she met him on oltl & he told her she needed to leave oltl now & try something new or she never would. So in a way this " goodbye " for Karen is also a hard goodbye for Judith & Karen/Judith is leaving w/ her story & rl love. It's so poignant b/c she was scared but decided to try her luck in calif & as we know she got who's the boss. It's like watching the real life beneath the show esp considering the gut Karen is leaving with is Judith's bf later husband who convinced her to leave or she'd regret it.
So terrible when so called viewers for the last several years of one life to live said about the writers are best use of history, which wasn't true. It doesn't help when Robert Woods & Erica Slezek went on the talk show The View to celebrate the 40th anniversary and lied plus they didn't have one real viewer of one life to live in the audience.
I think Light’s manager knew the time had come for her to leave when they did the awful storyline with Vinnie dying and Karen going undercover. Also, the horrific Ivan Kipling storyline was dreadful. Light didn’t want to leave, but he insisted she did. He knew that the show was ready to go into a direction that he didn’t want it going. I guess we will never know if Karen contacted David Renaldi when Karen was killed.
