Dominique Ropion is an amazing perfumer. Probably my favorite. He tends to make beastly but gorgeous fragrances. You reviewed Frederic Malle’s “Promise” not long ago, he is also the perfumer of that one as well.
I came back here after getting my sample... I'm so in love with it that I'm so shocked. I rarely like rose forward fragrances but this is just so amazing and so nostalgic for some reason.
Discovered your channel only last week. I've always had a fascination with smells, and fragrances. My Mrs signed me up to a perfumery workshop last week. I thought it was one of the best things I've ever done, and I'm no completely obsessed. I also turned 40 last week, and me being me. I've now decided to throw myself fully into Perfumery, and hopefully it's not too late for me to make something out of it. Anyway, love your channel mate. Thank you!

Great review! My skin doesn't like parfumes unfortunately, but this one is an exception. When I'm wearing it all the good fragrant notes comes out. And when my hubby wearing it, I have goosebumps all the time 😊 Masterpiece!
In my opinion, it's very difficult to make a rose fragrance interesting. Rose is pretty, cozy, romantic, you name it, but not exciting enough on its own. Spicy rose accords or the famous rose ouds on the other hand are very nice and I love them.
POAL to me is a great "share bottle" because it smells totally different on me than it does on my partner. Great fragrance even if it is a push for the price.
A flower fragrance on a man is incredibly sexy, me just haven’t caught on to this fact. Love your reviews. Portrait of a lady is great on a man, especially at night.
I just placed my first order of Frederic Malle earlier today. I've just become a frag head a few months ago, but I've gotten really into it. I've heard Jeremy Fragrance mention this one in all of his top ten lists lol I ordered a ten ml travel spray bottle of Promise, and I bought a sample pack with three or four samples, and then I got a free 7 ml bottle of Portrait of a Lady for signing up for an account and using the code "welcome". This will definitely be the most expensive travel bottle I've bought so far, but it's nice that I got the free 7 ml bottle too. The 10 ml bottle of that costs $100. I forget which samples I chose. I'm most excited to try Promise and Portrait of a Lady.

Beautiful review. I didn't like this at first but now obsessed. I love the helvetica-esuqe font of the bottle. It makes me think of a Beautiful intelligent women holding a science textbook from the 70s with bold helvetica text on the cover. It makes me smell the old text book smell. Gorgeous scent!

I really like your reviews and your perfumes. HOWEVER, I believe you reviewed this already. At the time the opinion was quite different even questioning if this perfume had any rose at all. Humm…maybe you should elaborate on why you change your view.
But if we read what write people, more than 2000 person of followers. They write that they believe, the BUY because they believe the professional point of view. And is that a reason why the professional has no chance to mistake and change idea. As a good doctor, good engineer. Is a chemistry. Or there is the rose or not. I am reviewing a few of the early videos. The early videos were shot in my bedroom with poor video and poor sound. Now I go to a studio with professional video and sound guys. The style of the videos is done in a way now that is more professional. Each video is similar. Same start and finish. Which means the videos are less personal and more an online personality which means I can hide the real me. If the real me is hidden. I don’t care about online hatred as it’s directed to a part of me that’s created.
Aaron, we love you and we love to learn from you. We just don’t like the feeling that your comments about this perfume (obviously) do not reflect what you really think. There’s no hate whatsoever. Just love…and some disappointment.

I bought a 50ml POA, spritz it on my forearm, and for some reason, I kind of feel nauseous, like I’m close to passing out. I do love it. I am willing to give this a chance another time.
Aaron i would love it if you got your nose on al haramain floral sculpture. I haven't smelled portrait of a lady but I am told floral sculpture is a cheaper but actually higher quality and better performing dupe. I just recieved it in the mail today and I absolutely adore it.

The real beauty of POAL is in the far dry down I think. That's when it really shines, at least on clothing. I wear all my frags on clothes. The deep dry down is very feminine but very very beautiful. I didn't really like Lyric Man the first time I tried my decant of it. Maybe I will like it more the second time I eventually wear it..
I believe a little Thai oud would make this superb. It’s slightly missing that warmth underneath to carry the fragrance and balance out the metallic feel. I got me a sample and rewatched this video. A whole new experience and I love it.
This week I wore your Oud, by itself. It's in the old packaging (don't know if you changed it in any way). Man, what a scent. People loved it on me! It fills rooms for hours! It fills warehouses for hours! That beautiful smell just... Lingering. Amazing!

I know POAL has many fan's, but it didn't work for me. I felt like it was wearing me rather than me wearing it. It never really warmed up on my skin. I prefer Gold Rose Oudh by Tiziana Terenzi more.

I am in the world's smallest minority group: I despise it. I know it's Ropion but I just can't wear this. It's the metallic tartness of the fruit mixed with the balsamic spice blast from the cloves and that green rose and cinnamon. It punctures my nasal membranes enroute to my eyeballs-- I deeply dislike fragrances that give me an astringent retronasal olfactory experience. Horrible. What do YOU think would make it smell better?

When you gave 9 and said 'it's missing something', is this 'something' you meant raw rose oils? Anyway, I think the name of the fragrance is misleading, many men avoid buying it
This is a rare exception where I'd spend that amount on a fragrance. Not my favourite, that goes To Chanel Allure Sport, however this requires only a minimum, one spray, as it is very intense.

I am a gay man and I am wondering, do you think there are masculine fragrances that appeal to gay men? Are these different from the men's fragrances that women like? Are the men's fragrances that get general compliments from other men (like the citrusy ones you mention here) the same ones that get compliments from gay men? Are they the same or are there nuances? The power of money! That’s a crazy thing to say. Money is NOT the reason I do these. Money is NOT the reason why I make perfume for a living. I make perfume to be creative and use my mind to bring happiness to my customers. A good fragrance can lift your sprits and give you confidence. I take that so seriously. The reason for the reviews is to educate and help people spend there money wisely. I spend more on perfume for you tube then you tube gives me. You clearly don’t know me at all. Sad!

Mr Greeg, absolutely everyone can change his mind, I didn’t understand Carnal flower two years ago. Now for me is one of the best. But I do not create perfume, do not pretend to be an expert and do not send my creations to no one.. usually professionals send themselves and betray idea for the promotion contracts. I only asked the reason of the deep changes and dissonance that I found in these two videos. Professionals hardly change ideas because initially they start to create a product being so well informed about what they are saying
The Original ATH's Rose is by far my favourite of all time there is not a Rose fragrance that come close to it ,,,,, needs to be brought back very soon
This is what I want. ATH’s rose fragrance. He is my favorite fragrance reviewer and his favorite fragrance ingredient is Rose 🌹. Now that I’ve experimented some with Rose fragrances & have found that I quite enjoy them. I want HIS rose creation.
I don’t think it’s too feminine at all as it’s quite metallic. But I’d try a 10ml and let it dry down. Don’t just it till it’s been on your skin a while and try it a few times.
Tried today just an overpriced strong rose perfume sorry but at the end was like yardley . Nothing special . The rose of of pengaligons kills that easily in my opinion .

I like the quality in this. It's superbly blended but the Rose is just not for me. Too feminine. Others will disagree.

This is a rare exception where I'd spend that amount on a fragrance. Not my favourite, that goes To Chanel Allure Sport, however this requires only a minimum, one spray, as it is very intense.

I usually hear things like this... Fragrances of one type that attract women, another type that attract women.
I am a gay man and I am wondering, do you think there are masculine fragrances that appeal to gay men?
Are these different from the men's fragrances that women like?
Are the men's fragrances that get general compliments from other men (like the citrusy ones you mention here) the same ones that get compliments from gay men?
Are they the same or are there nuances?
I find this topic confusing as well as intriguing...

There is a large fragrance house that is not putting any labels or anything legal on the outer packaging.

The power of money! That’s a crazy thing to say. Money is NOT the reason I do these. Money is NOT the reason why I make perfume for a living. I make perfume to be creative and use my mind to bring happiness to my customers. A good fragrance can lift your sprits and give you confidence. I take that so seriously. The reason for the reviews is to educate and help people spend there money wisely. I spend more on perfume for you tube then you tube gives me. You clearly don’t know me at all. Sad!

Mr Greeg, absolutely everyone can change his mind, I didn’t understand Carnal flower two years ago. Now for me is one of the best. But I do not create perfume, do not pretend to be an expert and do not send my creations to no one.. usually professionals send themselves and betray idea for the promotion contracts. I only asked the reason of the deep changes and dissonance that I found in these two videos. Professionals hardly change ideas because initially they start to create a product being so well informed about what they are saying

Hi, Aaron i wanted to ask u how come the rose absolut comes out in the base for haze black ? does it mean it becomes more apparent in the dry down ?
It adds complexity and a rich feeling. It doesn’t come through as Rose. I use Rose Absolute to make things more beautiful

The Original ATH's Rose is by far my favourite of all time there is not a Rose fragrance that come close to it ,,,,, needs to be brought back very soon

I don’t think it’s too feminine at all as it’s quite metallic. But I’d try a 10ml and let it dry down. Don’t just it till it’s been on your skin a while and try it a few times.

Tried today just an overpriced strong rose perfume sorry but at the end was like yardley . Nothing special . The rose of of pengaligons kills that easily in my opinion .
