In this, he was only 21 but with that hair and that sweater, I could have sworn he was a middle aged, mortgage on a semi paying, Volvo driving, wife/husband disappointing, drama teacher. Thank god someone helped him w/ his look!
@DesertRose I think it's cus you only get 5 mins. So, newer comedians try to blitz through all their material. Where as an experienced one will slow down and let a joke ruminate for a few seconds.
I really like seeing where stand-ups come from with their talents. early club gigs, contests, festivals, open mic's, ....Joe's development has been pretty incredible considering this was only 2009.
He is speaking a lot faster than he does nowadays . Hus quick wit is still there..much more refined now. Such a good comedian and he gets away with a lot! Brilliant
i recognise this guy from a bbc3 programme i watched a few weeks ago - looks like he's doing ok out of it! and from this clip a deserved winner i would say!
Hey Joe, I just watched your winning performance at the 2009 Chortle Student Comedy Awards. Funny and good grief you look stunning with long hair! Do yourself and the world a solid and let it grow.
Saw him in Edinburgh, 'Some Lycett Hot' such a brilliantly polished show, he's such a clever and likeable character, he almost lulls you into laughing along with him at almost everything, his jokes are great also. And if he doesn't put that on his next poster, then I'll change my opinion of him.
I mean generally feminine maybe. But his current higher Tambre voice isn't really feminine. I think the squeaks and squeals of his voice now are actually more tolerable than many female voices I know... I mean obviously, it depends on what they're saying/discussing but still. On average I'd generally rather listen to his voice.
OH MY GOD HE'S CHANGED SO MUCH
*DID HEEEEEEEEEEEEE?????*
I was just going to say that!
Yes but he still talks exactly the same
He plays up the gay.
Tourette's Majestic Or initially played it down I think that’s far more likely…
In this, he was only 21 but with that hair and that sweater, I could have sworn he was a middle aged, mortgage on a semi paying, Volvo driving, wife/husband disappointing, drama teacher. Thank god someone helped him w/ his look!
So I'm not the only one who thought he was wearing a wig and baggy clothes as a costume?
What are you on about? He looks about 15 here.
This was 2009 and he is a student. Not sure anyone has helped him with this look. Have you seen him on Sewing Bee? xoxo
He has improved so much, now a top comedian.
it was a good set
His content is still great in this but his timing has improved significantly over the years.
He’s talking so fast that I’m wondering if the video is actually sped up a bit. Or he’s nervous.
@DesertRose I think it's cus you only get 5 mins. So, newer comedians try to blitz through all their material. Where as an experienced one will slow down and let a joke ruminate for a few seconds.
he looks like a young sandy toksvig there
II can't unsee that! Love it.
I really like seeing where stand-ups come from with their talents. early club gigs, contests, festivals, open mic's, ....Joe's development has been pretty incredible considering this was only 2009.
RIXRADvidz I know, how, wrong were all those dickheads below?
he's has a serious glow up since then
tbh I've seen the thumbnail for this video for so long but never clicked on it because I thought, "That's probably another comedian named Joe Lycett."
Joe Lycett is AMAZING!!!! extremely clever comedian.
My God Joe. You couldn't look more like a student if you tried
Definitely one to watch. I've seen him to a longer 20 set and it was outstanding.
Well, you were right! (:
he does sound ever so slightly more brummy in this
My exact first thought lol
I think it’s because he’s worked on his “image” which I think is posh camp and wired
Daniella Shaw NO. HE WAS BORN BETTER’
I think he sounds far less brummy!?
InTheStars I was going to comment that’s
Awww you can see how much more confident he's gotten over the years
He went to my secondary school. so proud
How was he then
Look how far he’s come.
Well done Joe
❤️😂😂🦋🦋🍀🌈🌹🙏🏻🌞🌻
He looks like Milton Jones.
I thought that! A blonde Milton Jones!
and sounds like Tom Allen
he sounds nothing like Tom Allen!
MIlton Jones... the most handsome man in British Comedy...
I WILL NEVER UNSEE THAT!
Saw him last night in Oxford with Jack Whitehall...LEGEND.

He's much more camp now, but I love it! he's so funny!

Anyone watching this in 2021??? I've only just come across this! Brilliant!
Hey Joe, I just watched your winning performance at the 2009 Chortle Student Comedy Awards. Funny and good grief you look stunning with long hair! Do yourself and the world a solid and let it grow.

Fetus joe is actually adorable
Class even at that stage
I gigged with him on Thursday in Stockport. Fucking hilarious. His Peter Dickson (X factor voice-over artist) impression is spot on.
He got more comfortable with his audience as he went on. Great fun!
Flawless
Fantastic!
He sounds so, so different!! 😯😯
funny clever fucker,top notch
Apparently when Joe left the theatre he saw a fleet of pre-booked hearse's...
The seeds of genius. ..
He now on BBC1's EPIC WIN!!!
Hugo Boss has come a long way.
the kitchen was struggling to cope
Why is he one white shirt away from being Ned Flanders? Oh Joe.... lol
Holy shit, he’s really evolved into his final form since whenever this was filmed
Amazing
Sounds SO much like Julian Clary! Love him! :D xx
She is brillient, i cant wait to see her make it big !
mayortonyhall thats a guy
Funny man. Good luck to him.
He's really changed his voice.
I mean generally feminine maybe. But his current higher Tambre voice isn't really feminine. tfatphvt he's lost his accent
Oml Joe
He seems more "lad"-y here
With that cardigan? Does “lad-y” mean elderly woman to you?
=D i like this guy
amazing!
His voice sounds much more distinctive now. Must have been a conscious decision.
tfatphvt it could be to do with the people he's surrounded by now, he might be picking up their mannerisms
Surely he won
I can hear the brUMMIE
omg Joe your hair!!
I love how hes so ostentatiously middle class and almost camp (bi) makes him interesting...sort of.
Almost?
Oh no, not a whole two years!? How tough...
damn he lost so much weight
He looks fresh out of the 1970s lmao how can he change so much in 10 years
He looks younger now than he did then
I'm crying😂😂😂
chortle chortle!!
his voice is a lot less camp here
He was pretty bloody funny from the get go then. Born entertainer.
Reminds me of Simon Amstel
Apparently this is the first gig he had ever preformed
Very funny.
I think he recycled the lemonade/theatre bit cos I've seen him do it but pretty sure I've not seen these clips.
Joe looks like he's attempting a Jon Richardson x James Acaster cosplay with that outfit
oh. my. god. he looks like a different person now..
Not only that- he sounds like a different person as well.
Hilarious! Also, I really really want to touch his hair.
Richard Emerald you were saying?
Thought this guy was brilliant to be fair, was quite surprised!
Cracks me up on Josh Widdicombe's XFM show
he’s certainly aged well
very good routine, i'll forgive the hair and the cardigan but i wasn't hot either when i was a student!
It's coming on
It's coming on
It's coming on
It's there
Omg he looks like Domhall Gleason
Oh bless
OMFG 😂😂😂😂😂 WOW
The Shakespeare review's real, lol
Before his voice had broken.....
