Great review, Darrell! (I enjoy all of your reviews). Been a drummer for 55 years and due to spinal complications, I'm finally moving over to guitar. How would you compare it to a MIM tele. Great to hear this, I'm wanting to pull the trigger but stuck on some other tele's. THANKS in advance for your response.
@@TheRycooder Hey man ! Honestly I can't answer that question considering I've never played nor handled a MIM. Sorry Hooter Bear. But from what I've heard the quality in craftsmanship, especially finishing the frets, the pots, and such people seem to lean toward the Schecter. The PT SPECIAL is a hundred dollars cheaper in price but you're not losing any quality at all and ya just might be getting a higher quality instrument. That's all depending on the individuals perspective. I say go for it HB. I don't think you'll regret it one bit. I hope that helps ya at least a little bit.
Schecter is just killing it with the more traditional style guitars, a friend of mines just got a Nick Johnston Traditional not the usa one and it just a killer guitar.
I just received my Schecter PT Special 3TSB Telecaster, based on your review. I'm thrilled with this guitar - thank you so much for the eye-opener video!
Another Schecter T style with a load of features is the Fastback II B. I think I will eventually get one, just because it's so versatile and features laden.
I love Schecter, their metal arsenal is particularly impressive, and they still manage to pull off classics quite well as proved by your video. Speaking of which, I wanted to thank you personally for your video where you picked up a beat up Les Paul and upgraded it with black hardware and made it into an instrument anyone would be proud to have. It inspired me to pick up a road worn Schecter Demon 7 FR with a missing trem arm for 120 CAD$ at a local pawn shop. It sounded like garbage but as I suspected, the battery was the culprit. I replaced it, tightened the hardware, ordered the trem bar online and gave it a bit of TLC. I now have a fantastic instrument that cost me less than 150$ and I would have likely overlooked it were it not for your videos. Thanks again, and keep it up!
I was searching for tele style guitar for quite some time. I was almost ready to buy Fender Player tele when I saw this video and got impressed by this beauty. I've bough it two days ago in the same finish, 3TSB. Absolutely gorgeous guitar. Excellent sound and feel and looks stunning. For me this is a tele done right. Couldn't be happier. Thanks a bunch Darrell!
I recently purchased a P90 to put in the neck position of my Tele and I thought about the review of this beautiful Tele or rather 'P90/Tele' Special. I have an '02 Tradition CAB10 Tele that i already previously installed a 4-way switch and the factory-installed G&B Alnico 5 bridge pickup has plenty of bite, twang and snap @8.5K ohms; the P90 is fatter than Strat pickup which is fatter than a Tele neck pickup and that's how far I want it to be without resulting to a humbucking pickup and this Schecter has reinforced the P90 process to my guitar... great video by the way!
Thank you for this, Darrell. I've been racking my brain trying to single out a mid-level guitar to move up into, which was between a Fender Player Strat or a Gibson Les Paul Special Tribute P90. Well, it appears that the SGR PT Special is going to give me the best of both, in one well constructed package. All I need to do now is find one to play, before handing over the cash. Thanks again, Sir.
Thanks Darrell for the informative review. I have had an interest in this model for awhile and was ecstatic when I saw you choosing this guitar as a value recommendation. Have watched your channel for months and must say you sounded fantastic playing this Schecter! Sounded inspired with terrific tonality. Maybe it's because I am partial to this guitar...wow...great playing!
I have to say, I really like these. I was never really a schecter fan. there is nothing wrong with them, I've always just seen them as metal guitars and not my style. I've always been a Strat player. I've worked on countless Teles, but only actually got one for myself a couple years ago. I decided I wanted to do a "sessions"- type guitar, I haven't actually done any sessions for a decade but I wanted something I could grab to cover anything I might end up playing, and Teles are IMO designed for that. I wanted to do an H-S layout with vintage output pickups and install a preamp in it for higher output and to change up the EQ. I wasn't going to buy a Fender to do it because I wasn't planning on paying for a US model, but I really dislike the heavy polyester finish on the MIMs so I looked at other brands. First I looked at G&L but the bodies were either poplar or basswood or something like that so that was out. The ESPs also had some materials I didn't like and while even the 12" radius on the Schecter was a bit flatter that I wanted, especially with the huge frets, the ESP was close to 14" and I didn't like the chambered routing up at the neck pocket area. With the Ash body, vintage still bridge and more traditional looks I decided on this, the black one. I really thought it looked killer and actually wanted something with a more Strat type belly contour. The routing for the pickups allowed me to put in the preamp without all the routing I thought I was going to have to do, plus while this is a bit neck heavy, with the preamp and battery it balances really well. I went with a Lollar Filtertron type Humbucker for the neck *(side note: due to the fact that those type pickups are MUCH lower output than a typical Humbucker, even compared to a PAF, and it's naturally brighter voice, I personally find them to be the best Humbucker to use in the neck with a singlecoil in the bridge) and Tele Special in the bridge (a slightly lower output Texas Special). I had to do a some cutting and filing to get everything to for properly, but at the end of the day, this thing was perfect for what I wanted. I say that for the price relative to design and quality, I find these to be a much better choice than any of the Fenders in the same class.
Impressive instrument. Thanks for opening my eyes to this Schecter. You are right about the subtle value-added features and I think the appearance and finish are beautiful.
I like that idea of reversing the controls so that the PU selector is behind the pots. Took me hours to do that on my last Tele mod so this one's a timesaver.
Nice review on this one. My first guitar was a Schecter. Didn't know nothing about guitars back in those days but I felt in love right away with the guitar. This one sounds really good. I really like the colour and the binding. Dont have a tele right now and this one is certainly going to my list of guitar to get in the future!!!
Thank you for demonstrating this guitar. I've built 4 teles. The next needed an arm bevel, belly cut, p90 neck pickup. Top binding wasn't even considered. This guitar checks all those boxes.
Guitar manufacturers Beware! DARRELL will open your guitar and reveal how good/bad your guitar is to the world! Make sure you have a high quality control practise, if not..... LOL....
I really appreciate this review! I am a huge schecter fan and have a few, but i wanted a Tele style guitar. I was able to try a couple Teles and I really didn't like them, but after this amazing review, I have total faith in blindly buying online without even touching it! Thanks a lot Darrell!
That's a wicked guitar. I really dig the finish, contours and that headstock. I like the headstock way more than I expected. I hadn't noticed right away, then when my eyes drifted over there it completely grabbed my attention.
Got this in last week. Strings and saddles were a bit rusted but I wanted to re-string it anyway with 11's. I have 0 regrets. I haven't even thought about touching another guitar since. The tone knob was in the box, just took a little turn of the screw to keep it in place. I can't say enough about the tone. Thank you for bringing this into my world!
Great demo! Really helped me make the decision to pull the trigger (ordered the black/rosewood option). Should arrive tomorrow and I can't wait to try it out. I can see this as one of my main gigging guitars.
Was on the fence on ordering a sire T7 until I stumbled on this video. I like all it’s features. Thank you sir. It’s on its way. I have my fender collection but just something little different. Nice jamming Sir.
Glad to hear you like it! I’ve owned mine for a few years now, it’s a tank and my workhorse. Also capable of so many tones! Schecter hit this one out of the park. Keep making great videos! Your D’Angelico Atlantic/Les Paul comparison convinced me to pull the trigger on an Atlantic, it should arrive in two days! Great content
Hi chris, can you tell me more about the PT? Im torn between this, a fender player tele and a squier classic vibe 70s custom tele (humbucker in the neck); I'm biased towards the PT cause I already own a schecter c6 pro and i'm more than happy with the quality. but please tell me what you feel
Another really informative review. Thanks, Darrell. I'm starting to get your enthusiasm about Schecter guitars. Always stayed away from them because I'm a more 'classic' style player. But this guitar really has me intrigued. P90 and tele pickups.... great combination. I wish companies like this would go the extra step of volume and tone controls for each pick up so blending pickups was more modifyable for the player. I've had stacked pots installed on one of my strats and it's amazing what kind of tones are available when the player can blend sounds. Thanks for another great review and 'expanding my vision'.
I've been wanting a tele for some time, but the square heel joint and a couple of other minor things was turning me off. This seems to be a very good alternative, nice and versatile sounds, excellent quality for the price and what a beauty with that finish! Thanks Darrell!
Another homerun by Darrell! This is how a guitar should be, especially with series to parallel option, through string body and forearm and belly cuts! Take notice Fender!
Thanks for the great video content had a big surprise at band practice last night my cousin/bass player gave me this guitar 🎸 I was completely blown away says it was an early Christmas/birthday present played it through my drummers fender twin with my Morley pro distortion wah pedal this thing is completely amazing and as versatile as any guitar I’ve ever played last couple of years I’ve wanted a tele for those vintage sounds it gets all those and some great modern clean and dirty tones and really stands out in the mix Schekter really knocked it outa the park here the neck and frets and fit and finish on the guitar is outstanding !!!
I’ll admit for a Tele Style guitar Schecter did a good job on this. The recipe they had for this model was both classic yet modern. Vintage Ash Tray Bridge pickup with 3 compensated classic saddles , a nice sounding P90, the countor style body was the thing that got my attention. I like how you have that feature but it didn’t compromise the tone one bit. I’ll have to consider buying one of these! Good video again Darrell you might have given me a good idea for a future guitar for my arsenal.
hey Josheph, did you get one? can you tell me more about the PT? Im torn between this, a fender player tele and a squier classic vibe 70s custom tele (humbucker in the neck)
Thanks, Darrell, like I really need another guitar! Although, Christmas is coming up and I haven't gotten myself anything yet. It does sound pretty darn good, and like you said, the neck pickups on teles aren't very inspiring. Definitely gonna check it out.
I have one of these. The stock pups are okay. Unexpectedly jazzy with the p90 in the neck and push pull. But, took the plunge and had some Fishman Gristletones installed. Absolutely love it now. Love the tone & comfy contours on the body. Serious bang for the buck vs. other brands.
Just WoW! I’ve been watching the reviews and pros & cons of popular guitar brands, but been upset as each of them are with some demerits: sometimes with headstock, sometimes with tuning and also versatility! And also the price range is higher for me. I think Schecter can fulfill my need in every aspect.
Damn, I really really love Schecter as a brand. It's prolly my favorite guitar brand, barring one or two instruments from other brands. I'll always yearn to be good enough to earn a sponsorship from them, perhaps in another life. Really nice review Darrell, this is such a sweet sounding guitar. Love that p90 in the neck, love the design, the contours, the shape of the headstock (favorite headstock shape), love the build quality as you showcased and it was instant crush on the sound. I'm definitely gonna buy this someday, and maybe I'll change that bridge with the one without the raised edges along the top and bottom. Edit: Whenever I look at this guitar, I picturize it being played by Nick Johnston. He should try this one sometime.
Hello Darrell. I checked this guitar out after your video. Loved it, ordered 30 Nov 2019 from Guitar Center. Arrived TODAY! Was on back order. Love it! Light weight, beautiful tones, attention to detail in workmanship, and like my other Schecter’s perfectly playable right outta the box. Again, thanks for reviewing so many pieces of gear and giving honest opinions. You make things a lot easier! ⭐️😇⭐️
Hey! Hows it been? How does it play? Any chance you've played a fender tele? I'm kinda torn between a fender player tele and the pt special. How does the p90 compare to a traditional tele neck?
I've got the PT apocalypse and it's amazing. Ebony fret board, stainless frets, locking tuners and the apocalypse pickups are easily one of the best pickups I've ever heard and they have a split coil setup. I wish you were reviewing it.

This is the perfect T-style guitar! Swamp Ash, 3 brass barrell saddles, reversed control panel and P90 in the neck! My next guitar, hopefully my Christmas present to myself.
i was really drawn to the appearance of the purple one so it’s good to hear that this is a really solid guitar too! i’m gonna go for it when i’m ready to upgrade
That's a damn nice guitar for the money! Looks way better than a Fender you'd get at the same price, and the contours are awesome. Koreans make great guitars.
Oh my... There was one guitar I loved from the first sight, and it was Yamaha Pacifica 311 with its crazy HS configuration with P90 in the neck and overall great tone. Well, now that is my favourite. Amazing guitar.
I adapted my self made Tele Deluxe into something similar to this Schecter. I bought a new scratchplate routed to take a Tele bridge single coil and a humbucker in the neck. For the neck pickup I've installed a humbucker sized P90 and it's a great combination that sounds very nice. I've always had wide range humbuckers on my Deluxe since I made it, but I've found myself wanting a traditional Tele sound but because I already own 9 guitars I didn't want to, nor could I afford to, buy another guitar. Then one day I had a brainwave that I could adapt my Deluxe just by buying a new scratchplate and changing the pickup routing on it, and luckily I found a seller on ebay who did just that 😎 So now I have my original scratchplate with the wide range humbuckers on it, and also the one with my new single coil configuration and I can just swap the scratchplates over when I feel like a change. What I might do next is buy another scratchplate (or maybe 2) and get them routed to take filtertron type pickups or maybe regular humbuckers to give me even more options for my Deluxe. I'm pretty sure that when I measured the pickup cavities there wasn't enough room for regular P90s otherwise I'd be getting a scratchplate made for those as well 😆 I still can't get over what a good idea I had, and if anyone reading this owns a Tele Deluxe, you can now effectively turn it into multiple different guitars by buying new scratchplates with different routing for different pickup configurations. Tele Deluxes must be the most versatile guitars you can buy. 👍
At 8:29 discussing the Parallel/Series switch, it seems like Darrel is showing 6 different combinations (Br-Par, Br-Ser, Br+Neck-Par, Br+Neck-Ser, Neck-Par, Neck-Ser). But in fact, all three Series combinations of pickups are the same -- there is only way to make a series connection between two single coil pickups. It would've been more versatile, if the coils were tappable, and you could mix in parallel mode, 100% of primary with 50% of secondary pickup, and 100%+100% in the middle position.
I swear, when i saw a couple of your videos i thougth that you had like 3 millions of subs (minimum). You deserve that and more. Greetings and good vibes from Argentina 🇦🇷.
I had a Schecter loaded pick guard on my Strat for years. The pickups sounded GREAT! Strat guys were always complimenting me on my tone. Those pickups eventually just fell apart (after about 25 years) and I replaced them with Fender Custom Shop pickups. The tone isn't nearly as good as the Schecter pickups.
I just received this exact model in the mail. I also bought the aqua burst. In both cases they came set up exactly the way I set up my guitars. They also came in tune with the strings stretched and ready to play out of the box. I actually took out of the box and didn’t have to do a thing to it. 5 of my guitars I built myself and both of these feel like I built them myself. Same action I prefer and everything. I highly recommend getting one. A Tele that’s as comfortable as a strat. The heal contour makes it a little nicer. My opinion is that Schecter improved the Fender Tele AND Strat body design in one guitar.
Thank you DARRELL. Your review and playing FIRST CLASS Again! I’ve always found Schecter Research are some E of the best “set up” guitars right out of the box! 👍🎸👍
Hey mate how are you getting on with the pt special? Any challenges with neck dive? I’m running into it a little but could have just been I need to try different straps
I've had mine for a year and really like having the P90 on board. I play my other tele more often because the neck fits me better and I do love the classic tele neck pickup. So, the last couple times I played my PT Special, I completely forgot about the push-pull tone knob. Till now. She's coming off the stand today and I'll have me a play.
I blame you for my falling in love with Telecasters. The little that we have spoken, you made it clear I needed a Tele. You were right! I will be receiving two more in a week or two and I'm chomping at the bit. If someone says they need a good rock solo, the only guitar I reach for is my Tele. It's perfect for the job. Even better than my PRS's and Les Paul's.
@@dimitrisaivaliotis5616 No it's not. My guitars are all custom built for me by a small company. They're not top notch, but they are very affordable and I have learned how to bring them up to an acceptable quality myself. I have managed to get a few well made guitars from them, the Tele being one of my favourites.
Might be worth a brief mention that the PT stands for Pete Townshend who played a Schecter tele style in the early 80s.

I appreciate the great review of this guitar. It really checked all the boxes for me. Looks great, sounds great, well made and NOT made in China.
I just received my Schecter PT Special 3TSB Telecaster, based on your review. I'm thrilled with this guitar - thank you so much for the eye-opener video!
Hey, hows it been? Are you enjoying your guitar?
What made you pick the 3TSB over the Black Pearl color? Did you see both colors in person?
Another Schecter T style with a load of features is the Fastback II B. I think I will eventually get one, just because it's so versatile and features laden.
A GREAT GUITAR...
Just got one from Sweetwater .
This guitar is truly amazing !
Awesome Tele tone ! Once again Schecter gives every other maker a new level to conquer. Go Schecter rock on or country on !!!
Aesthetically of course. Really nice tones coming out of it, too. Plus great playing of course.
This might be my perfect guitar.
Been wanting another Telecaster for a while now. I think this is IT!
You just made my day!! I’ve had my eye on this guitar for a while, and I really wanted this review from you. Thanks!
I'm loving these $550-$800 price points guitars from them.
Great demo! Really helped me make the decision to pull the trigger (ordered the black/rosewood option). Should arrive tomorrow and I can't wait to try it out. I can see this as one of my main gigging guitars.
This is exactly what I've been looking for. I was looking to buy a player series in November but you sold me on this. Thanks!
yesterday i tested this guitar in a shop. this is a fantastic piece of wood. great tones, nice finish, price is fair.
good review!
I currently have a Demon 6 but want a T-style guitar as well. This guitar seems just right. Thanks for the review Mr. Braun!
I just unboxed the pt with the bigsby almost got the special watching this before I plug mine in
Darrell you're great. You playing, the concept you got for your channel, your smile. Simply awesome...... Cheers.......

Hi chris, can you tell me more about the PT? Im torn between this, a fender player tele and a squier classic vibe 70s custom tele (humbucker in the neck);
I'm biased towards the PT cause I already own a schecter c6 pro and i'm more than happy with the quality. but please tell me what you feel
Extraordinary review, you have just sold me this guitar 🎸! Schecter rules !!!
You know it's good when Darrell gets this excited lol.
I've been wanting a tele for some time, but the square heel joint and a couple of other minor things was turning me off. This seems to be a very good alternative, nice and versatile sounds, excellent quality for the price and what a beauty with that finish! Thanks Darrell!
Definitely made the awesome "do anything guitar" into something that can do even more!
Another homerun by Darrell! This is how a guitar should be, especially with series to parallel option, through string body and forearm and belly cuts! Take notice Fender!
Thanks for the great video content had a big surprise at band practice last night my cousin/bass player gave me this guitar 🎸 I was completely blown away says it was an early Christmas/birthday present played it through my drummers fender twin with my Morley pro distortion wah pedal this thing is completely amazing and as versatile as any guitar I’ve ever played last couple of years I’ve wanted a tele for those vintage sounds it gets all those and some great modern clean and dirty tones and really stands out in the mix
Schekter really knocked it outa the park here the neck and frets and fit and finish on the guitar is outstanding !!!
I was really not into T-style guitars. But as more and more I'm watching your videos, it's really pushing me over to buy one.. :3
Joseph Grant
Hate the ashtray and pick guard but other than that a great looking and playing instrument.
hey Josheph, did you get one? can you tell me more about the PT?
I think this is the one I’ve been looking for 😍
I want to buy every guitar you review because of how you play them.
😅, yes, thats the problem with such good vids:)
Just WoW!
I’ve been watching the reviews and pros & cons of popular guitar brands, but been upset as each of them are with some demerits: sometimes with headstock, sometimes with tuning and also versatility! And also the price range is higher for me. I think Schecter can fulfill my need in every aspect.
Do a vs a Fender Tele please! Great video!
Been looking for the perfect mid range guitar for me! Sold! Thanks man! Love your reviews
Hey! Hows it been? How does it play?

That's just the sound I was looking for and it looks great as well.
Thats a pretty unique tele sound I actually love it and the neck sounds fantastic I might get it just because
This is the perfect T-style guitar! Swamp Ash, 3 brass barrell saddles, reversed control panel and P90 in the neck! My next guitar, hopefully my Christmas present to myself.
It would have been nice to hear the guitar straight into the amp.
That is about the best finish I've seen on a guitar. That's sunburst, done right. Great searing tones. May I rent your fingers for my next recording?
i was really drawn to the appearance of the purple one so it’s good to hear that this is a really solid guitar too! i’m gonna go for it when i’m ready to upgrade
That's a damn nice guitar for the money! Looks way better than a Fender you'd get at the same price, and the contours are awesome. Koreans make great guitars.
Thanks Darrell. Just ordered in purple burst, arriving end Jan'21. Can't wait. Selling the Fender Players Tele.
Oh my... There was one guitar I loved from the first sight, and it was Yamaha Pacifica 311 with its crazy HS configuration with P90 in the neck and overall great tone. Well, now that is my favourite. Amazing guitar.
I'm with you on that. The 311 has been my gigging guitar since I bought it last year!
On this guitar, you sound better than I have heard you sound on any other. This is better than the MEXICAN TELECASTER, if you ask me 🎸🎸🎸
How does the p90 compare to a traditional tele neck?
I adapted my self made Tele Deluxe into something similar to this Schecter. I bought a new scratchplate routed to take a Tele bridge single coil and a humbucker in the neck. For the neck pickup I've installed a humbucker sized P90 and it's a great combination that sounds very nice.
I've always had wide range humbuckers on my Deluxe since I made it, but I've found myself wanting a traditional Tele sound but because I already own 9 guitars I didn't want to, nor could I afford to, buy another guitar. Then one day I had a brainwave that I could adapt my Deluxe just by buying a new scratchplate and changing the pickup routing on it, and luckily I found a seller on ebay who did just that 😎
So now I have my original scratchplate with the wide range humbuckers on it, and also the one with my new single coil configuration and I can just swap the scratchplates over when I feel like a change.
What I might do next is buy another scratchplate (or maybe 2) and get them routed to take filtertron type pickups or maybe regular humbuckers to give me even more options for my Deluxe. I'm pretty sure that when I measured the pickup cavities there wasn't enough room for regular P90s otherwise I'd be getting a scratchplate made for those as well 😆
I still can't get over what a good idea I had, and if anyone reading this owns a Tele Deluxe, you can now effectively turn it into multiple different guitars by buying new scratchplates with different routing for different pickup configurations. Tele Deluxes must be the most versatile guitars you can buy. 👍
Got here after seeing your view on the fender Tele ultra.. the pt special looks fantastic! Thanks
I would just flip the wiring to have the default signal be series - that sounded so nice!
I love the p90/Tele thing on this.
Just got one, I was glad to see You reviewed it so well. I love it and Your right on about the value.
Great video! TY. I have been eyeballing the 2021 release and you just sold me on it...
This channel is my go-to for gear reviews.
I’ve always found Schecter Research are some
E of the best “set up” guitars right out of the box! 👍🎸👍
That PT is SWEET!
The black model looks gorgeous! Great review, thank you.
Hljust bought a used one for 480 it's supposedly mint so I can't wait to rock out on one of these beauties.
Hey mate how are you getting on with the pt special? Any challenges with neck dive? I’m running into it a little but could have just been I need to try different straps
Really thinking about buying this guitar. Love all the modern comfort curves. Thanks for the review.
Top string loader bridge too as well. Don't forget to mention that Darrell. You should try it both ways. Top loader Tele's are sweet!
Schecters are great guitars. I have a black two humbucker PT model. It punches far above its weight.
Schecter makes some great guitars. Their MIK options are especially well made.
Hello my friend! Yours is a shecter tele?
@@dimitrisaivaliotis5616 No it's not. My guitars are all custom built for me by a small company. They're not top notch, but they are very affordable and I have learned how to bring them up to an acceptable quality myself. I have managed to get a few well made guitars from them, the Tele being one of my favourites.
@@johnbovie9203 👍
I love the ergonomics and look of these. I wish I could swap the pickups for the G&l ASAT special ones and just have the best tele ever
That baby blue Strat-like guitar in the background is awesome!
