I have the Schecter PT SPECIAL with the three color burst and I love that guitar! The thin finish so you can feel the woods grain is really nice . The pups and push pull feature is great for giving more tone options. I bought it after first owning a Schecter C6 Deluxe which is their base model Strat design with twin humbuckers. I liked it so that, after seeing fellow Canadian guitarist Darrell Braun review the the PT Special, I ordered one. Never regretted it for a moment. Great review of the Schecter PT SPECIAL Landon. I dig the purple burst finish too. Take care man and don't be afraid to check out some more Schecter guitars. They really are well made instruments.
Same here, thanks to Darrell Braun Guitar channel for recommending Schecter's PT Special (3TB color). Love every aspect of it. Out performs one of my buddy's Telecaster Deluxe. Now, I want it in Purple Burst because of Landon's review. Sweetwater, unlike GC, has special colors for the PT SLS Elite series. And want them ALL. 🎸🤘. The Schecter's Super Shredder lineup looks AMAZING in the new colors!
I've been considering that guitar for a couple years. I thought it sounded fantastic. I really like the "p90" as the neck pickup. Initially I HATED that color, but as you were showcasing it, I started to appreciate the color combo and now would be very happy with that exact guitar! Thanks Landon for another excellent demo! 🙂👍🎶🎵🎶
Congrats on the Schecter! I’ve got their Nick Johnston strat, and it’s a beauty. I came darn close to getting a PT, but decided to pre-order the traditional style Sire T7 from Sweetwater instead. 5 months and counting….
i've got the big brother of the PT, the PT Fastback IIB- Schecter's take on a tele deluxe with a bigsby trem. It's a gorgeous, versatile guitar and I love it! I always recommend Schecter, they do great work. Love the finishes on the PT Specials.
Wow you bought a PT Special! I was really lusting after this model last year, specially this purple and the green one too, they are so beautiful. Went another direction and no regrets, though it's nice to see this demo and teardown.
Yep, I’d definitely get some shorter setscrews for those saddles. I like everything else about it. Very nice of Sweetwater to send you that great guitar. Congrats!
Nice guitar - great review. Thanks for opening it up to show the weight relief - awesome! Also, you are the first out of several reviewers that understands Series/Parallel only works with 2 or more single coil pickups. Lastly, I did not know that PT stood for Pete Townsend (from The Who). Very cool! Thanks for all the info!
These guitars are awesome. You get the arm cut, the wonderful p90, great Schecter action, fretwork and 22 frets. And they are made in South Korea, where the consumer, environmental and employee protections are far better than China. You also get contoured heel, brass bridge. This is what Fender should give you and doesn't. Schecter made it's name by advancing the tech of electric guitars beyond Fender in the 80's.
Had this guitar for about 6 months now and I absolutely love it. Feels like a dream, looks like a dream, I get excited to pick it up every time. My only issue with the guitar is that the stock bridge pick-up is not very inspirational and I will have it replaced.
I bought a Schecter PT Special with dual humbuckers. First thing I did was drop in a Seymour Duncan Mark Holcomb Omega Bridge pickup in it, and the thing rages (It's an amazing pickup!). The interesting thing is that the Seymore Duncan, while being extremely high output, really plays nice with the stock neck humbucker when both are selected. Overall, this guitar is a steal of a deal at its price point.
the first schecter pt i ran across was in the early 80's. weighed about 10 lbs. the pickups had huge pole pieces. i don't know if it made a difference but it looked loud. played great, sounded good.
I just recently found out that Schecter makes a Fender guitar. This or a Tempest Custom is on my top 5 guitars to put in my collection in the near future. Cool review, great stuff 👍👍
12:05 The first ever Fender Tele’s had a cover over the saddle - maybe something like that will solve it (I know, where are you going to get one?). The 3 piece split is sometimes less noticeable on different guitars. Sweetwater lets you compare and choose before ordering, so if you want a less obvious split, pick the guitar where the contrast in grain isn’t so obvious. Great video, thank you!
WOW! Congrats on a "Free" guitar LB. Also, it's a sweet looking axe. I've never played a Schecter, hell, I don't think I've ever even picked one up. Very cool.
I love the pete townsend schecter tele…the USA schecter PT is one of my dream guitars…I check the web every now and again to see if any are out there for a good price and are not all beat to hell…sweet guitar Landon…nice job!!!!
I have the Schecter Nick Johnston Strat. It is awesome. Other than the pickups. I swapped the pickups for Lindy Fralin Blues specials and it is my favorite Strat that I own.
I was really interested in this model a few years ago, but since then I've sold 2 guitars because their necks were too thin for my taste, and I've heard several times that schecters have thin necks. now that you measured it, it's abou the thickness of a modern C, which is one of my fav necks, so I'm GASing for it again... thanks landon!
I picked up a used PT Special in black. The original owner replaced the bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan. All in all, I really like it for all the reasons stated in the video. Super-minor gripe is that I think the tuners are a bit meh, and the tone control does not have a lot of modulation to it. It seems to want to go either all the way on or off, unlike my strat. That said, it's an incredibly fun guitar and a steal pricewise.
One thing for ppl to keep in mind- extra jumbo frets are fantastic for playing chords! They make chords much easier to play, especially stretchy chords (less pressure is needed and when your fingers are really stretched out you can’t play with as much pressure)
I had a black Schecter Tele a long, long time ago. It looked very much like that one in the pics (2:50). It was a pawn shop find, so I had no info on it, but it was pretty nice. But I wanted a Fender, so I sold it to a friend. When we reconnected on FB, he reminded me about it and said it had ‘changed his life’. 🤔 . It took me a little while to remember which guitar he was talking about, but that was cool to hear. I don’t think they were made as well as they are today though, from what I can recall.
I first saw the Schecter PT model when Pete Townsend, who it is not named after (uh ... yeah.... ) used a gold top dual humbucker PT onstage. Cool guitars. Cool video. 😎
So I recently ordered a shecter C6 deluxe for my first guitar directly from Shecters website, that’s a 350 dollar guitar. I just received it and unboxed it and this guitar was in the box, a PT in the candy apple red. I appreciate the mistake they made.
Guitar store a couple blocks from my house has had this guitar on the wall for three years. I picked it up once but didn’t plug it in. May try it properly next time I go over there.
I can’t wait to buy this guitar. You get a lot of quality to this guitar for the money. I like the sunburst with the P90 maple neck. EDIT: Maybe I have to get both. You made it sound so good.
I bought a PT fastback about two years ago now and since then I've got a NJ strat from schecter as well and Ive got to say the quality is unreal for the price of the guitars. I'd go so far as to say they're my favorite brand.
I don't know if you were teasing about what PT means, but I believe it's supposed to stand for Pete Townshend as he played Schecter Telecasters on the It's Hard album and tour. Edit: Never mind...you mentioned it in the video :)
Originally Schecter didn't make guitars ,they made replacement bodies , necks and various parts . Townshend's tech at the time , Alan Rogan (?), assembled Pete's Schecter Teles during '79 & '80. Incidentally, I remember in the 90's people who were into vintage Fender Teles , referring to the American Standard as a "Schecterised" Tele !
I've got this same guitar and the Nick Johnston Schecter in Pink. This one feels great, nice smooth neck and it is quite a heavy boi. Negatives were that the bridge pickup is microphonic so that will need replacing and the pots are cheap. They basically go from 100 Tone to zero tone. But other wise it is a great guitar. The NJ on the other hand overall great guitar, but same problem with the pots, tone goes from 100 to zero. No taper. On mine, the bridge post on the bass side was not drilled deep enough, causing the plastic thimble to rise up as you tighten the post to deck the bridge. All things considered, I might have gotten defective ones but they are great guitars. Better than their fender player counterparts by miles.
Never new the Pete Townshend link either. Interesting. Won't get Fooled again I guess. Never had a 3 saddle guitar but now thinking twice after your observation. Thanks for the video!
Beautiful Tele indeed. The P90 at the neck, seems to be better sounding in terms of bass presence then the regular lipstick pickup or the one on the Godin Stadium..
Good review Landon. I own 4 Schecters and am happy with them. If you are interested in a excellent Schecter to review I highly recommend the Solo II Blackjack, very impressive guitar at a great price.
Great review! Smugglers route. Something fender did in the late 60s and early 70s, I believe. Supposedly to compensate for heavier wood they were getting.
What I like: The binding on the body The wood grain on the body The rosewood neck The position of the selector switch The weight Made in Korea The cleanness of the routing The arm carve The satin neck What I feel ambivalent about: The binding on the neck The headstock The tummy cut The colour The tones from the Bridge pickup as demoed here: sounded too civilised/refined in the clean tone and out of control in the dirty tones. What I don't particularly like: The satin finish on the body; just prefer gloss The jumbo frets -- woudn't be my choice
This guitar looks and sounds quite impressive. If I had it I would try and reverse the switch and knobs to the traditional arrangement. You say you like it better than the Godin you once had. Maybe you should check out the Godin Stadium 59 and see if you like that. I really like my Stadium 59 for a T-style guitar.
That thing is beautiful. Danish Pete has me hankerin' for a Purple Tele. I thought it was called P.T. for purple Tele? Lol. You don't have to put the pedals on the screen. We know it's a sweet baby and a mini tube. Thx again for the great content.
Great review, I really like this guitar. How do you think these frets compare to the medium jumbo ones used by Fender? Per Schecter they're approximately 100 x 55. Thanks!
Really nice guitar man and purple is my favorite color..I have yet to complete my modest collection of guitars and the tele is the one that I have yet to nail down..I want a real good one... should you decide to part w that one...how much are these new?
Pete played Schecter and Giffin guitars back in the day. Giffin was a british guitar builder who made replicas of the Schecter Pete used. Those Schecters are from the original Schecter custom shop in Van Nuys California, that has nothing to do with the current company.
I had the pleasure of watching Pete destroy one of these in Oakland in 1982. I would have pointed you to the video of the show, and the time stamp of when he clobbered an amp at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again (I was in front of Entwistle about 15 or 20 feet from Pete- and he got annoyed at the tuning or sound or something), but alas, it is no longer on UA-cam.
I considered this model last year when I was looking for a T with proper 25.5 scale. I already had my LTD '87 Eclipse NT in pearl white. For me it checked some boxes, but would need too many upgrades to be worth it. Then I saw LTDs new te1000 black blast! Wow! The exact opposite of my '87 in every way except the body shape. Still upgraded the pots, tone cap and added a treble bleed. Oh, and by the way, it came with Elixirs on it that just sounded way too dark through a Katana 212. Once I slapped on a set of my normal EB 10s (slinkys) it perked right up and allows the GHS Fast Fret to work its magic.
I'm in the market for a Tele, and was just about to get going on this one when I started watching reviews of the Fender Player Plus. It has a lot of features I like, what do you think? Thanks
Hey Landon, I got one of these a few years back, it was great except the neck would dive, like if you were playing in a standing position the neck would fall. Maybe it was heavier than the body I dunno. Anyway did you experience that at all with this one?
I just picked up one of these models but a 2021 year. I have noticed neck dive on mine. I am going to try some different straps to see if I can assuage it. I didn’t notice it until I tried it out playing standing up. Excellent guitar though, but I’ve got to find a solution for the dreaded neck dive. I may even look at altering the placement of strap buttons, not sure yet. Have you considered any ideas to try? This is my first axe with noticeable neck dive so I’m inexperienced with it
I did a double take and a triple take when I saw your name and face. Just bought a pt today and was checking what UA-camrs might have reviewed them.
I am a long way from playing video games with you n your sis in 2006 or so.
Great vid, great channel with so many views!
All the best, Glenn Scott.
Canadians eh
Ive wanted a PT Special for like 2 years. Schecter needs to make more finishes for this! They look and sound fabulous🎸🎸🎸
👍🎸
Yup. I'm not into purple or green guitars neither 😢
@@ElvisPriceless get the black one it looks so clean !!! The binding on the neck is more apparent and the manufacturing was perfect !!!
@@ElvisPriceless Not into purple guitars? That's just strange
@fredymendez855 I struggle with the look of the big p90 with white pickguard. How does it look in person?

Wow, I remember when Pete started using the Black Tele, when I saw the Who in 79 I always was under the impression that it was Fender.

I'm mostly into Fender and Gibson, but I have a Schecter HH Strat-style guitar. Fantastic fit and finish for $1300, made in Korea. Highly recommended.
Great deep dive , it is a brilliant looking guitar, it has some beautiful unique tones for a Tele. I'm really impressed

I bought one in aquaburst. I swapped the neck for an SD antiquity and the bridge for a SD pearly gates. Sounds amazing, no volume drop when switching!
Is that a SD antiquity PAF humbucker you put in the neck position? Did you get a new pickguard?
Nope a p90 @jevonwhite5193

What I like:
The binding on the body

The arm carve
The satin neck
What I feel ambivalent about:
The binding on the neck
The headstock
The tummy cut
The colour
The tones from the Bridge pickup as demoed here: sounded too civilised/refined in the clean tone and out of control in the dirty tones.
What I don't particularly like:
The satin finish on the body; just prefer gloss
The jumbo frets -- woudn't be my choice

Nice StP RIFFS I noticed what you were playing right away.
Just ordered the Sunburst maple board special used from GC. Hope it is as awesome as this one :)
Hope you enjoy it!
That thing is beautiful. Danish Pete has me hankerin' for a Purple Tele. I thought it was called P.T. for purple Tele? Lol. You don't have to put the pedals on the screen. We know it's a sweet baby and a mini tube. Thx again for the great content.
I think the PT is an incredible guitar, especially for the money. I’m actually thinking of getting one
Great review, I really like this guitar. How do you think these frets compare to the medium jumbo ones used by Fender? Per Schecter they're approximately 100 x 55. Thanks!
hey thanks! I can't really say how they compare, but they were really nice
@@landonbailey One followup question - is the guitar well balanced, with no neck dive? Thanks for your earlier response.
@@allenstowe660I am experiencing some neck dive with this guitar, mine is a 2021, I might be able to work around it.
Thank you Landon 😇
Hi Landon! What’s the black guitar that’s hanging behind you with the white pick guard?

I’m buying one next week.
Really nice guitar man and purple is my favorite color..I have yet to complete my modest collection of guitars and the tele is the one that I have yet to nail down..I want a real good one... should you decide to part w that one...how much are these new?
I love the p90 in the neck...
depends on your location, $699 USD
Pete played Schecter and Giffin guitars back in the day. Giffin was a british guitar builder who made replicas of the Schecter Pete used. Those Schecters are from the original Schecter custom shop in Van Nuys California, that has nothing to do with the current company.
That is one gorgeous guitar finish though...
I had the pleasure of watching Pete destroy one of these in Oakland in 1982. I would have pointed you to the video of the show, and the time stamp of when he clobbered an amp at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again (I was in front of Entwistle about 15 or 20 feet from Pete- and he got annoyed at the tuning or sound or something), but alas, it is no longer on UA-cam.
lol some deadpan funny stuff man haha love your reviews SUB!
Thanks
it's nice. I have a video on the Player Plus Nashville Telecaster
I did not know that about Schecter
Great job. We sell these like crazy!
there she goes!
Almost bought one....maybe need to re-visit
Hey Landon, I got one of these a few years back, it was great except the neck would dive, like if you were playing in a standing position the neck would fall. Maybe it was heavier than the body I dunno. Anyway did you experience that at all with this one?
no dive on this one, it's balanced and light weight
I just picked up one of these models but a 2021 year. I have noticed neck dive on mine. I am going to try some different straps to see if I can assuage it. I didn’t notice it until I tried it out playing standing up. Excellent guitar though, but I’ve got to find a solution for the dreaded neck dive. I may even look at altering the placement of strap buttons, not sure yet. Have you considered any ideas to try? This is my first axe with noticeable neck dive so I’m inexperienced with it
I would try to hide a Line6 PocketPod in the cavity... ( 7:25 )
Definitely one on my want list
looks like a Roasted Maple neck too
