My first “real” electric was a white Schecter Tempest Custom. I was 16. 18 years and 30795020 guitars later, that one still remains one of the best I’ve ever played.
I struggled over what guitar to buy. After doing a lot of research, I found that Shecter was setting new industry standards. So I bought one. It’s absolutely amazing. The guitar is very playable, comfortable, and the craftsmanship is supreme. Grover tuners, stainless steel frets, graphite nut, high end inlays, and name brand pups, carbon fiber rods in the neck all come stock. Amazing.
Darrell. Thank you, brother, for introducing me to this guitar. After about an eight-month wait, the package arrived and I am absolutely loving it. It sounds amazing and is so comfortable in my hands (which are very used to a Fender American Standard Strat, for anyone else wondering about the feel of it). Whatever the opposite of buyer's remorse is - that's my vibe right now. Thank you so much for helping me find the capabilities I want without having to spend more than necessary. I truly couldn't be happier with it!
I bought this guitar and the 3 way was shorting out brand new out of the box. No big deal, easy fix. My real complaint is no pickup rings. To me it's not a clean look having the entire bridge humbucker exposed and the pickups aren't parallel to the strings. I've corrected these issues with mine and some may not have these same issues. Other than that, this guitar is stupid good and I have no regrets.
Because they are. It's not even really all that nefarious, though... they are just bloated, massive companies that do too many other things besides make guitars. So, whether fanboys accept it or not... yes, you're paying for a good guitar, but you're also paying for salaries, failed projects, successful projects, etc.
@@inquisitor4635 I understand but without them the pickups are tilted backwards quite a bit. Schecter told me the pickups were made to work that way which is BS.
Another great feature that wasn't really talked about is the entire guitar has multi-layered binding (if it's real)! Look at the binding on the headstock, neck...even the base of the neck next to the pickup! Looks like a bang for your buck buy!
Darrell you are a great guitarist! your show has helped me a lot! I have seen a lot of guitars I would not have heard of because of you. keep up the great work.
Darrell, I usually skip through video channel intros, but yours I ALWAYS watch... just to see you fall in the snow at the end. You have a great channel by the way.
I inherited two schecters from my grandmother when she passed and they're the best playing and absolutely most beautiful guitars in my collection. I highly recommend schecter
Man, whatcha expect from Schecter? These folks produce killer guitars again and again. I own a C6 Deluxe and a PT SPECIAL and they're both great guitars. The C6 Deluxe is their least expensive offering and it's an excellent instrument . The Blackjack is a beautiful guitar that sounds so good. I've come expect nothing less from Schecter. Thanks Darrell for introducing it to us.
@@leedemkiw6085 Thank you for the comment. I like to get feedback from people who actually own the guitar. Even though I completely trust Darrell he’s a really good guy And he always offers an honest review. Would you say build quality it stacks up against a Gibson studio?
@@tonymarinelli7304 I honestly couldn't tell you as I've never played a studio. A good friend of mine has a 2013 Les Paul Standard and it's terrible compared to the 2019 Traditional I have. I have seen the new studio at my local dealer though, and the build quality was as good as my Traditional, just didn't play it so can't comment any further. I think you'd probably like it though if you are after a studio. It felt lighter than mine.
Yo how is it I recently built a strat similar to it and kind of regret it because I saw the specs on that signature. I like the flatter radius and how is the little cutaway at the heel?
Hey man,, I've owned the hss model since July. I find the cutaway allows me to play the upper frets comfortably. I've played guitars with a larger cutaway but I find the nj signature is just right for me. I love this guitar. Everything else is perfect. The only thing I'd change is the neck & neck pickups to a more vintage sounding single coils. All in all for the money, there's not a single strat style guitar under 1500 that's better than it.
@@GooseyVT Yea as Gage mentioned, the cutaway is nice. Fret access is easy. I really like the neck on the guitar. Plays very fast, but still has a more traditional Strat vibe. Really cool balance. Overall feels like a guitar that is $1500 - $2000.
9:45 “Well, I’ve definately heared worse.” Dude, these pickups sound freaking awesome, especially that neck pickup, it has a lot of clarity and character, even without the coil split.

@@clownpocket "Could have dialed in a better sound," I agree. "and I’ve never heard of that “super high end” brand of pickups." The guys from Meshuggah have been using them for years. Lundgren tends to lean towards rock, metal, and high gain sounds.
@@sawyerc.6033 your take is nonsense. Gibson guitars are hardly handmade. Gibson doesn't have a great reputation for quality. I've owned a bunch of Les Pauls and have even made a few '59 replicas. However, a good Les Paul is an amazing thing but you have to play several to find the one. It's been that way for as long as I've been alive. The worst part of. your take is that you're shilling just as hard for Gibson as you accuse Darrel of shilling for Schecter. The truth is Schecter builds quality instruments at a great price point.
@@sawyerc.6033 I respect your view but have you ever had any quality control tuning stability issues with Gibson. I have owned a couple of Les Pauls and SGs, and after playing for 5 - 10 minutes it would go out of tune, especially the G string. Have you ever had this problem?
I am a huge fan of Schecter, the first one I purchased was the Jeff Loomis 7 sting, I was awestruck at the playability out of the box with no tweakage. I guess that is why Zakk Wylde went with them for the Wylde audio guitar line. I have a couple of them and and truly love them. Stay safe everyone and keep on jammin, happy holidays.
instead of innovation or new ideas gibson worries about companies copying them. nice guitar tho. i do also like schecter 9 string and that one they make has sustainer pickup with floyd rose.
The Sustaniac (infinite sustain) pickup is a total game changer--why I'm a Schecter person now. Gibson was the undisputed king of tone for decades, but now they even get spooked by their own shadow. I think they have been raked over the coals by the government over "illegally importing exotic woods" into the United States to the point they are so paranoid over the next potential FBI raid - where their products are permanently impounded and steep fines imposed (without any right to defend or get their imported woods returned) - which seems to have killed their desire to be innovative with designs anymore.
My son just bought a schecter omen elite and it looks, sounds and plays awesome. Had a couple guys pick it up and play it that have higher end guitars and they were blown away by it's smooth playing and sound.
Schecter has been making amazingly good guitars for at least a decade and now people are finally beginning to realize it and see it! Best fretwork in the industry too!
Earlier this year, I bought a Schecter Solo Ii Custom in the same Satin Black finish on the one you reviewed and gave to your brother, and I selected it based on your great review. It’s SO fantastic, and I recommend it to people all the time. Schecter makes incredible stuff.
Zack You're correct and they do not cut corners , I don't know how they do it , but after buying the Demon 6 , I'll definitely be picking up another , maybe the Omen or Sinister Gates...
Update: Had the Blackjack for a couple of weeks now, Darrell is correct, excellent instrument, love it. Schecter guitars out of S. Korea are really top-notch as I now own two.
The v100 HB and the PGM are very good for around 5 Bills they have Wilkinson pups and tuners, also nubone nut the 2 I got will match up to a gibson or heritage.
Schecter has always been a quality brand, looks and sounds like they knocked it out of the park with this one! You could swap the pu's if those hops arent your style.
Well, the prophecy has finally tried to smoothen its old heel joint that was sticking out like a sore. Schecter had a rounded heel from the get go. Looking at the new Prophecy with the new joint, I am still a bit skeptical as to their implementation, as if they tried to keep both the old hill, but "minimize" it. That doesn't solve the (rare) access to higher frets the way it's suppose to, but of course that can be debated.
P.S. I forgot to add, the latest Prophecy has a 24 frets and a 24.724" scale, while Schecter Hellraiser Solo II has 24 frets and a 25.5" scale(!) for drop tuning. Now, aside from having a nicer neck joint, with all that, it's beating the sht out of gibson brands (Gibbie, Epi and Kramer [and I had a 24 fret 25.5" scale singlecut Kramer Assault too])
@@alanswanson7515 oh wow I didn’t even think about that and did try to look it up just now. Some people say to put inserts in and shorter screws and all types of nonsense lol. This just seems like so many steps backwards to me. I really don’t get it.
Who else noticed the stagger of the position marker inlays on the Blackjack flips above the 12th fret? Btw if you want a more traditional LP style single cut I think Schecter has a Solo II Custom with a 24.75 neck and more trad humbuckers, same price range. I like Les Pauls but would get a Schecter now before a Gibson. Even their plain guitars are pretty nice. I have an old PT Saturn HH.
Here 4 Schecter, BUT: For the money, Epiphone's 2020 Les Paul Modern Figured IS better than Gibson's. The 'Blueberry' version's Probuckers AIN'T 'wannabe '57s.' Idunnowut Epi did (maybe 'it's IN the paint'), but (mine, at least) are voiced 'different.' IMHO: They = PRS "Starlas" or Ibanez "Super '80s." I'm already callin' these pups "Epiphone 2020s." Soon-2B: 'Collectable.'

Neck breaks Gibson: Sure send it back, we will repair it. Schecter: Carbon fiber reinforce the neck.......It should have never broken in the first place. Schecter is my chosen guitar of 10 years, it will be the only company I buy from as long as QC and value remain, aside from making my own guitars.
Guitars are musical instruments, they are not designed to be dropped. If YOU break YOUR guitar it is YOUR fault. Buy strap locks, put it in a hardshell case when you're not playing it.

I bought one of the Schecter Custom II's, in part off of your video on it, and love it more than the day I bought it in March. Excellent, reasonable guitars.
I got one of Schecters PT Fastback llB's, took the Bigsby off and installed a stopbar tailpiece on it. Love that guitar!! Ive been looking at this one lately.
I keep coming back to this review. I have been going in circles trying to buy the absolute best guitar for the money. Quality is priority #1. Between the Gibson Les Paul studio, the PRS se Pauls guitar, and this Schecter. What to do. The Blackjack is leading the pack ! Thanks for all your great work and efforts.
The "Best Guitar" for the money should be able to cover the most ground. This might be the best "HM" guitar for the money, but you can't really play clean with super hot pickups like this. If you use pedals, you can dial in as much gain as you like. My PRS SE's will play metal or country or anything at all, as can my LP's, and even my strats. If you don't like pedals then you need a good HM guitar to play metal. If all you play is metal, this looks like the right choice for sure, but you might not be so happy if it is your only guitar.
@@Asuraai Going crazy trying to choose the right the right axe. I finally came to a decision. I'm going with the Schecter Solo ll Custom in Trans Black. On backorder right now.
If you get to play them in store I guarantee youll chose this one. You can veryy easily change the pickups later for whatever you want man, and many people would be willing to trade pickups so you wont even need to spend money. This guitars construction and quality will be felt in the hands when playing and that is whats most important. Gibsons quality has gone way down so throw that option out the window. Chose between schecter and prs. My friend has a prs, I like it, but I like my schecter even more. He wont say that he likes my guitar more than his lol but he wants to buy a schecter haha
I bought a Schecter Omen Extreme FR as my first good electric guitar. I paid $350 but it was basically brand new. It's the best guitar i own. Compare it to my Epiphone Les Paul Ultra II but there's absolutely no comparison! The Schecter sounds so good. It's got binding on the body, neck and headstock. My favourite thing is the marker on the first fret.. obviously nobody needs a first fret marker but it looks so nice! It's got coil splitting, two humbuckers, Floyd Rose trem, a volute on the neck, beautiful comfort cuts, a gorgeous figured maple top, the guitar is just absolutely awesome in every way and you can pick them up for cheap! Schecter is a great brand and everything they make will sound good, look good, and hold it's value.
I love Schecter and have used them since 2012. Did you know that the solo headstock fits perfectly together with a Gibson Les paul headstock.... a nice little touch 👌

Got one about 6 month ago. Overall i'm very pleased, but there was A LOT of minor flaws when i got it. - The nutt was missing half a millimeter on both side of the fretboard and was cutt too deep (major buzzing). The guitar was almost not playable... replaced it with a nutt at the right specs (Graphtech PT-6643-00) adjusted with sandpaper. - Slight brown coloration on the binding near the fret ends making me think that the fretboard is tinted (still, beautifull fretboard) - The inner horn side is not well polished - The are a few spots where you can see the mahogany near the bindings. - There are little black paint spots on the binding on my headstock, binding that didn't exaclty match above the logo. the neck feels absolutely fantastic and the Pickups are awsome. The guitar is beautifull (if you are not bothered by the little flaws). Ergonomics are good, the locking tuners are great but the coil split is totally useless (don't expect to sound like a singlecoil on a 25"5) .
Very pretty, great features...but wow, to my ear it sounds "thunk-y" and lifeless, with a very dull tone (not "dull" as in "not bright" but just a flat, uninspiring sound).
To be fair Schecter is one of the most lefty friendly companies out there. I've had 3 or 4 in the past, have hated all of them until I bought my KM7 mk1. Love this one, I think Schecter has been making huge progress these last years.

Adjusted pickup height to acquire clean tone and lundgren tone using volume pots. Experiment continues with different string gauge and type. This well built guitar provides a solid platform.
Picked up a solo II custom I saw on the rack this week...was blown away. I have a Gibson standard 60’s which I love, but i can’t say the Gibson is any better than the Schecter. I was genuinely blown away. Would have bought it on the spot but lacking in funds.
I love Gibson, a classic "Traditional" series and its sound, and '57s pickups. Nothing can compete with that feeling, when you play a few no name guitars in the shop and then you take Gibson, and...... brrrrrr =))))) it's fantastic. But i am 42 and for my generation Gibson is more than just a guitar. For young people - i believe - the cheaper the better always works. And of course, i agree, no need to pay 4 times more if you just want to play a guitar =))) Without those stupid comebacks to the legendary "PAST".
Well cheap and cheap its not. its better made than a gibson are and more expensive specs than gibson but i like gibson too but man i would not pay that much for a gibson name😂

That's one of the funniest comments I've ever seen. You might think about being a comedian. Na....stick to the guitar mam. Take care, hope your wife can handle more guitars coming in.
or man.... sorry.
Actually she’s been very cool about these. She’s had to sit through these videos and gave the guitars a thumbs up
My first “real” electric was a white Schecter Tempest Custom. I was 16. 18 years and 30795020 guitars later, that one still remains one of the best I’ve ever played.
Probably a late 70s Greco would have been much better, but it's too late now.
Buyers remorse will hit when you try selling it.
That looks like a really nice guitar. And it's only $1200?! Now I feel like all the other guitar manufacturers are ripping us off with their prices 😑
Yes they are
I bought this guitar and the 3 way was shorting out brand new out of the box.
@@billzaferatos2256 I actually don't like pick up rings.
@@inquisitor4635 I understand but without them the pickups are tilted backwards quite a bit. Schecter told me the pickups were made to work that way which is BS.
Would you stop with the badass schecter’s. I have enough, but now I need another one.
Yep....
I wonder if I could do it with just one kidney...

Just ordered one. Thanks DBG.
I also want your DBG 10s telecaster. Great specs and price.
Another great feature that wasn't really talked about is the entire guitar has multi-layered binding (if it's real)! Look at the binding on the headstock, neck...even the base of the neck next to the pickup! Looks like a bang for your buck buy!
I LOVE THE DIRECT MOUNT PICKUPS!! Finally!! 🤘🙌
Seals the deal with SS frets and compound radius. I’m in!
I've always liked that look, though on a PRS it would look so odd.
I love the sleek look of direct mount pickups.

Darrell, I usually skip through video channel intros, but yours I ALWAYS watch... just to see you fall in the snow at the end. You have a great channel by the way.
That flop in the snow makes my day !!!
Lungren pickups? Waiting for Van Damme ones, they're gonna have stronger attack. Or Stallone ones, they are more Rocky
Lundgren are swedish humbuckers used in Ibanez and hagstrom. But fameus guitarist buy them so like Scott Gorham.
You’ve clearly never played a set of Clubber Langes! I pity the fool!
Hehehehehehehe!!!
@JL Cogar HA 😂🤣. Those Seagal pickups are still wondering if anyone has seen Richie.
Nah. I've got the Norris. With those the guitar plays you!
I inherited two schecters from my grandmother when she passed and they're the best playing and absolutely most beautiful guitars in my collection. I highly recommend schecter
You had an awesome grandmother!!
All my grandmother had was an old Fender, made out of pine. The damned thing didn't even have a truss rod!
I got bunions from my grandmother.

Really digging schecter lately. Picked up a diamond series Nick Johnston HSS and it’s insane.
@@gagemcdonald9393 thanks for the info man
@@GooseyVT Yea as Gage mentioned, the cutaway is nice. Fret access is easy. I really like the neck on the guitar. Plays very fast, but still has a more traditional Strat vibe. Really cool balance. Overall feels like a guitar that is $1500 - $2000.
I’ve got the SSS version and it’s just a great guitar.
9:45 “Well, I’ve definately heared worse.” Dude, these pickups sound freaking awesome, especially that neck pickup, it has a lot of clarity and character, even without the coil split.

Have you ever had this problem?
the whole time i was watching a commercial not realizing it was a commercial. lol damn guitar commercials
I know, right. And now I want one like the fool I am!
Missing those 1 minute solos in a mix :(
Yup, same here!

I have a Schecter Poltergeist Chris Poland signature model, which has a 24.625" scale, for what that's worth.
Something I’d love to see review is a brand called “vintage” seems right up your ally
Excellent value budget guitars. I've got a V6 (SG) that is superb and with some TLC and change in pups, is equally as good as an equivalent Gibson.
The v100 HB and the PGM are very good for around 5 Bills they have Wilkinson pups and tuners, also nubone nut the 2 I got will match up to a gibson or heritage.
Yes, absolutely, Schecter made a gem with this one. If we could just get a thick body model equivalent to the LTD's single cut "T" model.
that’s literally The Metal Rhythm Guitar. goddamn.
Trust me, you can Solo like insane on an Solo-II as well.
Schecter has always been a quality brand, looks and sounds like they knocked it out of the park with this one! You could swap the pu's if those hops arent your style.
Definitely check out the Epiphone prophecy series if you can!
No just buy the schecter. Gibson has been missing the ball with their quality.
That's what Toni Iommi plays , Gibson J45 Epiphone...
P.S. I forgot to add, the latest Prophecy has a 24 frets and a 24.724" scale, while Schecter Hellraiser Solo II has 24 frets and a 25.5" scale(!) for drop tuning. Now, aside from having a nicer neck joint, with all that, it's beating the sht out of gibson brands (Gibbie, Epi and Kramer [and I had a 24 fret 25.5" scale singlecut Kramer Assault too])
Wow that thing is fully loaded! I personally don’t like the look of direct mount pickups because it looks unfinished. Great demo as always!

- The nutt was missing half a millimeter on both side of the fretboard and was cutt too deep (major buzzing). The guitar was almost not playable... replaced it with a nutt at the right specs (Graphtech PT-6643-00) adjusted with sandpaper.
- Slight brown coloration on the binding near the fret ends making me think that the fretboard is tinted (still, beautifull fretboard)
- The inner horn side is not well polished
- The are a few spots where you can see the mahogany near the bindings.
