    I have one. It's in 177 and maybe 15 years old? It shoots beautifully with none of the dreaded twang. Just a nice dull clunk as it goes off. Never getting rid of it.

    Been watching your videos for a while now. Always enjoy the talk through as it clear, not rushed and you know what your on about. One thing I noticed and this might be just me. When you cock a break barrel you mentioned about keeping your hand on the barrel, just in case it flys back when inserting a pellet. Since I was knee high to the common grass hopper I was taught to break but not fully cock. Place the pellet in, THEN fully cock when ready to put in the ready position. Other that that I’ve got to say keep these going as they are well informative for all calibre of shooters.

    • @airgunextra
      @airgunextra  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Jan - thanks for the kind words. You're right, the method you describe is another safe way of cocking and loading a break barrel. The only thing to do is make sure you literally break the barrel and don't hold the barrel under tension even a little bit to gain access to the breech. The danger otherwise if your hand slips is that the barrel will snap shut and pinch your fingers. But whatever works for you! Thanks for watching...

    Thanks for the review. I have one of these and absolutely love it. In .22 there's less muzzle flip, and they really like to be tuned to get rid of the twang, control the recoil, quieten them down and dampen the hold sensitivity a bit (delrin top hat and spring guide, glided piston with delrin bearings added, full fettle, trigger tune.) You can get the pellets through the same hole shot after shot with these 95's with a bit of practice. Lovely gun!

      Can you please explain this whole muzzle flip thing please? I wanted to get this in .177 but is there a problem with accuracy due to this thing called muzzle flip? Many thanks. ATB MMMD

    HW rifles are brilliant, I got my hw 80 .22 in the early 1980s and and used it on several farms clearing out feral pigeons rats and rabbits. I still have that rifle and it would still do that job but it’s me that can’t get around farms these days. Old age and waiting for new knee. Though it is still used on my 20yard range in the back garden along with a HW80 .177 and 2 BSA Ultras. The only thing that spoils it is the price of pellets these days also the good old Eley Wasp’s no longer made, I found that the slightly larger diameter of a UK .22 worked better than the EU .22 in my hw 80.

    • @edmundearle49
      @edmundearle49 Рік тому

      I read many of these articles and cannot recall one reviewer being able to pronounce the name of the HW, one hears it pronounced whiterock and several other things. Being a fluent German speaker it should be pronounced "Vier- roush. The letter W is never pronounced as W in the German language, but as a V. And the high German meaning translates as "Holy Smoke.

    These are cracking rifles I’ve had a 95 for about 10 years now and it’s one of my go to rifles along with the 99s which I bought new just before lockdown for £200 if my memory serves me correct, but prices seemed to have rocketed since!! I do own a couple of weihrauch pcp’s the 110 and the 100s but it’s always nice to go back to my roots by having a wonder with a springer and bringing a rabbit back for the pot.

    Thanks for a comprehensive review. I have two 95s - one in .177 and one in .22 and love them. I've found that a heavier steel moderator (an old Parker Hale in my case) improves their accuracy. I guess that's probably because the additional weight dampens movement of the muzzle better. I managed 4 hits out of 6 shots on a metal knock down target at a measured 87 yards (gun rested on a cushion on a mild, still autumn day) with the .177. Was pretty pleased with that. I also find they are nicer to shoot if you drop the power a little to the low-mid 10 ft lb range. They become smoother and less snappy, especially the .177.

      Thanks very much Laurie. Good tip re the silencer too.

    • @Beesa10
      @Beesa10 2 роки тому +2

      I totally agree, a de-tuned or lower power spring gun has less recoil and lower cocking effort which makes it an easier and nicer gun to shoot. For a .177 to produce the same ftlbs as a .22 the spring in the .177 has to be that bit stronger which makes the .177 more snappy. I generally prefer springers in .22 although the best in my modest collection is an HW77K .177

    My Daystate Wolverine is up for sale.......WHY??? Because I can now shoot an 1.5 inch group with my HW95 at 100 yards consistently. Yes it took a lot of practice and concentration and a very light trigger. So yes, my HW95 is every bit as accurate as a PCP. If I wish to take it on a week long fishing trip I also have no concerns with air bottles and all that baggage.
    HW95 in my opinion is the very best springer ever made. Yep it takes a commitment to practice and learn, once you do it becomes second nature. Um.....er the 97 is its twin, just as accurate, just a bit heavy.
    Cheers
    Kit

    Good review & nice shooting. I own 3 weihrauch springers at the moment including a .22 hw95 had a problem with barrel flip probably due to the slower speed of a .22 pellet in the barrel so i replaced the whole barrel for a hw98 barrel which completely solved all accuracy problems.

    I was thinking of adding a bayonet to mine, was the only way i could hit anything, gave it to a friend who has being shooting almost 50 years, all air guns types and real guns, he couldn't hit nothing with it, long story short took a full tbt kit with short stroke and heavier moderator to sort, now its bang on, mines in .22 and apparently .177 is far worse, its quite a marmite gun some people get on with them no problems, others it just doest work, glad i finally fixed mine.

    Nice vid. Sold a Hw77 with scope for £40 a year ago.....foolish I know. Have a question....why have most makers switched to carbine length barrels? ......Whether it be a springer Pcp or Co2 they are all doing it! I have a theory that a non carbine barrel length within reason is more accurate. I do understand that a longer barrel can increase the muzzle energy. Having said that I think the makers are cutting costs at the expense of accuracy due to ease of keeping UK rifles sub 12 flbs. It also saves on machining and transport if bought in due to weight. Could be an interesting topic for your Vlog!

    • @kitcarson7572
      @kitcarson7572 3 роки тому +2

      The shorter barrel gives less chance or time or option for error prior to pellet actually leaving the barrel. So shorter barrel is more accurate overall for most shooters as it reduces the requirement for a perfect hold substantially.

    very good guns but by the right tuning can be made into a truly superb gun.My .22 hw95 was tuned in 2019 and is a pleasure to shoot .5p size groups at up to 45 yards is well within the guns capability.They are set up to produce about 15/16fpe and need to be tuned to our uk sub 12fpe to give their best.Do that and you will love it forever!

That was my grandad's .. great times ..

    How much😱 nahhh i drove up Newcastle yesterday in my camper from Redcar after 6 months travelling Scotland before returning home and bought the Hw95k from bagnells for £376 and amazing really accurate.
    Before it I bought a BSA lightning GRT XL es from keiths sports in saltburn and returned it after a day, terrible rifle that one.
    So yes, these days stick to weihrauch as I put pellet on pellet from my camper in pitch black under torch light from new, not sure it's got competition at the price point, the only thing I don't like but Ile get use to is that bloody safety catch that stops me pulling the trigger 😂 thanks for the vid

    Try loading the pellet before cocking a break barrel, much safer than holding the barrel with a cocked action 😊👍

    • @airgunextra
      @airgunextra  Рік тому +1

      That works fine as long as you don't for some reason forget to cock the rifle and also, on most rifles the breech is exposed, but on some you need to put a bit of pressure on the barrel to fully expose the breech which can result in you pinching your finger if you're not careful. Its a great springer and so glad I did not buy a cheaper springer. If I ever go for a PCP I will purchase a HW 100KT as so impressed with the HW95K. Out of curiosity have you ever tested the ft/lbs through a chronograph for the HW95K with various pellets.

      Hi and thanks very much. The HW95 is a great springer, and the HW100KT one of the best PCPs. I put my .22 HW95 through the chrono every now and then and it a consistent 11.3 ft/lbs with 16 grain pellets. I've not tested other pellets to be honest, but I suspect they'd be around the same mark. Thanks for watching.

  • @EarthSurferUSA
    @EarthSurferUSA 12 днів тому

    At 32.8 yards, not bad, but not super impressive either IMO. Try just laying the fore-stock on your palm (don't grab the gun), and before you squeeze the trigger, move the gun away from your cheek and shoulder to as light as a touch as you can. I use my middle finger for the trigger, and steady the gun with my index finger up on the stock to stabilize the gun when squeezing the trigger. (a good trigger helps a lot, but possible to shoot well with a crappy trigger, with practice). I bet you can get that group half that size with out varying cheek and shoulder pressure on the stock. The basic idea is that you can shoot well with any grip, if you can repeat the forces into the stock, shot after shot, day after day, year after year. Zero force, (as little as possible and still be steady), Is the most repeatable. Then you have the scope, (which may not be doing a good job with repeatability), and pellet quality to worry about. As you get used to "zero force" on the stock, and a good pellet that you have proven out, you will be able to tell if your scope is failing.

      I am with you most of that way, but i will only try to take small Gamo with my Gamo Swarm (29 fpe) to 80 yards, (.22). Even the great JSB 10 grain pellet loses a lot of energy at long distances. But probably matches this gun 45 yards closer. :)
      I think the company is bent on "mags are harder to shoot", so it is nice to see a guy on here who knows how to shoot a mag springer to long distances, even if you did help build isis by buying a hatsan. I would buy thks gun, if it had a air cylinder and made 30 fpe in a ,22 or .25. I have the HW95 little bro, the HW 99s, it is solid but not over heavy. As I use it scoped, I circumcised it.
    Removing its foresight and made a faux moderator from bits of plumbing, enveloping it in a length of rubber innertube, a heavyweight condom if you like.
    That bit of extra weight reduced muzzle flip, and just maybe, reduced the twang somewhat.
    Like Casimodo, I have a hunch, that some of the twang is a consequence of not having absolute control of the inline barrel action.
    Maybe it's psychosomatic, all I can say is my HW99s shoots and sounds great. However, I would be curious to know if my DIY 'moderator' has any sound deadening effect.

    • @airgunextra

      Springers are more of a challenge, but good ones are every bit as capable as PCPs, and much more rewarding when you shoot them well. I'm sure a mod will help your HW57, but - as you point out - most of the noise on a springer is mechanical so I'm sure your work will be rewarded. Enjoy your new rifle...

    • @airgunextra
      @airgunextra  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Raffaele and thanks very much. We're glad you like our videos. Silencers will only ever address noise coming out of the end of the barrel and as most of the noise on a springer/gas ram is mechanical it won't do anything for that. So the answer is 'yes' the silencer reduces muzzle crack but you'll still get noise from the mechanical spring action. However, tuning the HW95 will help.

      @@airgunextra Time on the gun does not mater. How many shots the scope took does. A mag 30 fpe srpinger will break most scoped in under 500 shots. So I paid a bit extra for a Leupold Freedom series 3 x 9 - 33 mm adjustable objective with a lifetime warranty. It lasted almost 5000 shots before I had to send it back for repairs. It needs more now after another 3000 shots. I say nobody makes a scope durable enough for a mag springer. But count your shots to see when yours fails. That little Leupold is a great, and very light scope. But I paid extra, (like $250.00), to have a mill dot retacle put in it, that should be standard IMO. But as long as they keep fixing it, best there is IMO.

I´m a good guy !!:)) ... My notice is ; I´v got a air rifle from a good friend of mine and I did not see what brand it is before I removed the BSA scope 4x20 ( very blurry but original ) than I saw it is a BSA Super Meteor( rubber but pat and Monte Carlo stock) from 1967-1969 what I found out so fare. Serial number is ND 8116 Now my question ; can you confirm this after reading ? And what fpe these guns have had when they been produced ??? I shut thru the crony an I´v got 3.6 fpe with a 5.5grain lead free pellet . I think it´s an old(original ) mainspring in it. One last thing: can I switch the old spring with a new "Titan " sub 12 spring? Or ar 10 -12 fpe to much for this " Beauty " ? Oh... it is accurate as hell!! I putt on a red dot on it and up to 35 yds ....lights out! Also with open sights! I want to keep this gun because it´s my " first" Brake barrel after my Haenel Mod. 300 (GDR) wich I´v got from my dad 1975 (8 yrs old) Thanks for your patience and I hope you can help me about the questions I have !!!! I've sometimes noticed that a rifle that seems to twang loudly to you as the shooter isn't anywhere near as bad to someone stood a short distance away. I have a HW80 MK I .177 with a Vortek High Output kit in it. How does this HW95L compares to it? I find the HW80 is a too heavy for dragging around and it takes time to learn to shoot it well. I still can't get rid of the 1 on 10 or so flyer due to inconsistency in the shooting cycle on my end. I'm hesitating to buy a HW95L in the hope that it's lighter and a bit more 'forgivable' on a less experienced shooter. Would you recommend the .177 or .22?

      Hi Lawrence. The HW95 is indeed lighter than the HW80. As to whether it's more accurate than the HW80 I couldn't say. For sure, its capable of good accuracy, but I don't think I could honestly say it is more capable than the HW80. The extra bulk of the 80 is a factor, but does help with the rifle's recoil. Have you considered a sling?

    I'm torn between this and the Gamo GX40. I love the simplicity of springers and the lack of accessories, however, I do think that the GX40 will be easier to shoot, and therefore more humane if I want to go hunting in future. Your thoughts please? ATB MMMD

      Hi MMDD. The HW95 is a great springer, but like all great springers, it needs plenty of practice in order to extract the best from it. The GX40 will be a lot easier to shoot accurately and I agree that it would probably be he best choice for hunting. I saw your other message too. The NP-03 is worth looking at as well (over the NP-02 in my opinion). And whilst there is very little between the GX40 and Phox package, as you say, the scope would be something you'd probably disregard in favour of something better anyway. It would be a toss up between the Phox and the NP-03. There are no wrong choices there and I'd be happy with either for hunting - both legal limit and accurate, but personally I'd probably find myself veering towards the Kral. But if they didn't have any in stock, I'd be more than happy with the Gamo. I hope that helps!

      If its not threaded to accept a silencer I'm sure a good gunsmith would be able to sort it out for a modest outlay. Thanks for watching.

    I've owned a hw99s in 177 for around a year now. Would it be worth upgrading to this rifle? Is this easier to cock than the 99s too? I find mine hard to cock.

      Hi. Its probably a little easier to cock, but not appreciably so I'm afraid...Thanks for watching though.

      Hi Gary. We've reviewed both the 77 and 97 on the channel if that helps. Of the two, I prefer the 77 but in truth the only difference between the two is the stock. Either would be an ideal partner for your 95. Good luck!

    Hi I've just brought my first ever springer its a 177 hw 95, im very new to air rifle shooting and was wondering what the average price would be to have it tuned.

    • @airgunextra
      @airgunextra  2 роки тому

      Hi Gary. Great choice on a first springer. There are lots of great tuning services. I'd recommend Sandwell Field Sports, but check with them on lead time first. Also, Lyn Lewington air-rifle-tuning.com/v-mach/Fitting_Services.html. Lyn tuned my HW80, fitting V-Mach internals and I cannot praise his work enough. Prices are around £150 upwards depending on what you want done. Good luck!

      Thanks very much for that mate , I've not put any more than 50 pellets though yet , not had the weather, been told that you should put atleast 200 through to bed it in first, but love the rifle.

    • @airgunextra

      @@garyhaden2390 Yes, a couple of hundred should do it. Did you clean the barrel first? They often come with oil and grease to prevent rusting whilst in storage. A good pull-through will get you up and running. Tuning will certainly get the most from your rifle. An HW95 is a great rifle, a tuned HW95 is something else!

      No didn't pull through the barrel, as i said im VERY new, thanks for your time and help i really appreciate it. And i will clean the barrel and certainly will get it tuned, to be honest im liking the break barrel i personal think it's harder to shoot than a pcp and i like that , thanks again 👍

    I own a Weihrauch HW99S and HW97K both in .177. I find the 97k to be too heavy.
    I went to Essex Gun in Dagenham to buy a 95K in .22 but they didn't seem too keen in ordering one for me. Is it worth me going for hw95k in .177?
    I don't drive so I would face problems refilling a PCP.

    • @airgunextra

      Hi. Plenty of other gun shops would, I'm sure, be happy to supply you with a .22 HW95K. The 95K is great in .177, but I've always preferred in .22 calibre. It just seems a little more stable. Good luck.
