      I think that I am 75 (today!) and have to laugh at this. I pay a good price for my sweaters, but lately have felt that the quality of the fabric is not as good as some of the older sweaters in my drawer. When I checked the labels, the older, more comfortable and better quality sweaters are 100% cotton. So, I went looking for 100% cotton; and they were not easy to find. Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger do make 100% cotton and many of he ones I found are striped and look like “cricket sweaters”. So, at 75, I am wearing cricket sweaters and I think they look fine, especially with jeans and my brand new penny loafers. Always classic and “preppy” even at 75; I don’t think it’s ever too late to go back to school. 😂

      The styling is what brings the sweater into current vogue. The front tuck. The neutral pairing. The right accessories. Which just proves that old classics never die. They just show up every now and then with a new date! LOL

    I am 74... I wear what makes me feel good, physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. I decided long ago to dress to please myself and not worry about what others think. I chose my own style having come to realize trying to please others or being concerned about what other people think keeps me from being authentic; life is too short to seek out and follow trends that in the long run are not going to give me the value I already have. Life is more fun once we make the determination to free ourselves from what others consider to be of value when it might not serve our hearts desire in the long run. However I can appreciate the need others have with regard to how they look to others when they're in the their 40s 50s or 60s even though I was preserved from having that mind battle myself.

    After years of looking at my teachers, having a mom who was a teacher, as soon as I became a teacher I knew the poor kids had to look at me all day so that affected my style. I wore colors, but I always was conscious that I wanted my outfits to inspire respect. My basic uniform was blazers/jackets and slacks or nice sweaters and slacks or dressier jeans. Never ruined any clothes and was on the floor with kids every day.

    I wear turtlenecks. I have a dozen cashmere turtlenecks and many more in other materials. It gets to -30° F here in the winter, and I start wearing them as soon as the temperature hits freezing at night. I'm 68, for reference. Honestly, my fashion icon from 20 years ago was a white-haired lady who lived on my street; I never saw her in anything but a black turtleneck and black pants, and she looked fabulous. Another thing I'll never give up are my tweed jackets, but none of them are that Chanel style tweed. Most of them are very subtle herringbone blazers. I honestly don't care if people think I'm old - I am! In fact, I wish people would take me for the age I am, since they usually think I'm in my 40s. I have an old body, feeling it 24/7, and it irks me when people expect me to do things that I could do 20 years ago, but now it's just not happening.

    I was 76 November 13. I have always dressed very feminine and classic. I ran a huge business for 45 years, and had to be stylish. Today, during the day when I’m not looking after our properties here in South Florida, I wear skinny jeans and a pretty top, and have a cardigan in case I’m in air conditioning. At night, I always wear DolceGabbana midi-length dresses (not the crap you see in magazines today like KK wears). I have many of their classic evening and also luncheon dresses, all mid-length because I’m thin and 5’5” tall and the longer length makes me taller, since I’ve lost probably 3” due to being hit from behind 3 times with crushed vertebrae in spine and neck. I am lucky that my body hasn’t really changed, but I take care of myself. I agree with others who say nobody really cares what you are wearing. I just came back from a two week cruise on Oceania Riviera in the Mediterranean. My sister and I were the only two who dressed every night, wore high heels and evening purses and jewelry. We could have cared less that other people were not as dressed. We dressed as WE always dress, and I’m not about to step it down because others are either too lazy or ill-informed as to how a lady should dress. Now I’m ready for everyone to jump on me, but as one lady said, I don’t care. I earned it!

    Jewelry for me is a big part of my personal style. I have a large collection of vintage and modern jewelry and it doesn't matter if it's *in* or out. I am 68 and if someone feels my style in jewelry is *old* lady, thats fine. I put vintage pins on my jean jackets and hats. I have a black beret that looks cute with a pin.
    I don't feel I am frumpy in clothes that I wear. Like I can't wear sweatshirts with embroidery or otherwise grandma type embellishments. BTW I am a great-grandma x3. 😊 I dress for the situation. I am not a conservative dresser unless the occasion calls for it. I try not to dress too young but will add a trendy top or sweater to my outfits. Life is too short to conform. I do agree with almost all your suggestions for the most part. I have never cared what people think when it comes to fashion. Have fun with fashion.😊

    I think all of these tips are spot on. One thing I have come to realize (I'm 68 - for reference) is that mature women are much "thicker" than younger women. What looks good from the front can be really unflattering from the side or back view. I think a tutorial on selecting fashions that flatter older women in 3D vs 2D would be really a great subject.

      Yay welcome!💕 Oh they definitely do that…but really all the designers do it too. Especially lately with all the oversized clothing, I don’t think people like when I say it, but it’s true, a super tall model can literally wear anything and look stylish…I see it all the time and think, no normal person could wear anything close to that!🤣 all marketing.🙃

      You’re right. See my comment about. I’m sized out of both Chicos and Talbots because their smallest size, size 2 regular, it too big. I’m 5’4” tall weight 106 petite is too “short” everywhere! I buy the leggings 2 regular and get the waist taken in. Talbots has good quality so I buy their stiff. I’m 67 and don’t look like most women my age. My earlobes don’t sag. If you are in your 40s the best thing you can do is start bio identical hormones. Find a doctor that specializes in this. Your regular GP won’t have a clue

    I LOVED the pictures of the models wearing the 'matchy matchy' co-ordinating clothes , in the same colours and fabrics. It looks so stylish, 'put together' and FAR from matronly! As a hater of skirts ( I'm a BIG dress fan. Which is weird as , when i was younger, I NEVER wore dresses) I do agree with the skirt suit. Im not such a lover of them, unless it's a chic, well-cut and designed flowy cut. I love v neck tops. If I do wear a higher, round neckline I accessorise with a chunky, dramatic necklace to 'alter ' the visual appearance. Ultimately, if clothes make you feel good, ladies, wear them. Say NO to the so-called rules. And Subtle shoulder pads balance out the body

      Your hair looks beautiful 😍 the “old lady” term is a look that I have in my mind. For instance if I talk to you about a teen or a mother, an image may come to your mind, that doesn’t mean there’s only one right answer, but you have an image to those words. It isn’t meant to be negative, it’s just a certain look. Definitely, aging is a blessing!🧡 I hope that all women care to do little things to their look and style everyday to feel their best.😊

    I’m 60. I almost exclusively wear Zara. There are lots of exceptions to your suggestions. There are some beautiful matching tops and bottoms and skirt suits in right now. MIDI and Maxi skirts or dresses can look very stylish. I spend a lot of time in Europe and women there are so stylish and break most of your rules. THe women look amazing. They also tend to be thinner than Americans which makes a huge difference. I usually check with my 30yr old daughter to see if something looks good or bad on me. So far, she approves. I’ll never dress “my age” as long as I have an option.

      Agree. I live in France. Women here, and throughout Western Europe, dress very differently than Americans. 'Fashion trending' isn't a big thing. Chic ,classic style is our mantra. I dress in a way that suits me and makes me feel confident. I don't care what people feel about it. I prefer maxi and midi dress lengths. Personally, I can't abide shorter styles on me, They feel frumpy and aging. I'm 61, and far from old yet 😁

    To look “younger” the “experts” generally want you to wear structured clothing in solid colors with a lot of black, navy and white. No patterns, except perhaps stripes. Heels. Or kitten heels must be worn. Jackets and tailored pants are a must to look polished. I’m not wearing that unless I’m going to church or a funeral. Try wearing those types of outfits in the SE when it’s 100 degrees and the humidity is at 100 percent for weeks at a time. No way. I would rather be comfortable, and alive, than sweating all over and dying of heat stroke.

    Your suggestions are very good, even though I personally think that what makes you look younger is how confident you are in whichever clothes you like, and of course, your demeanor. Most of the time, unless I have a business meeting, I wear still the same black alt-punkish cloths I've worn since my youth, and people are usually surprised when I tell them I'm 58. Those clothes should make me look like an old, out-of-time wanna-be, but apparently they don't, because they are "me", I'm comfortable in them, and I don't care about people's opinion of me any more now than I did before. I am 63, and I don't mind being called 'old'. 'Old' is fine because I earned it, hard work over the decades. I have embraced my grey hairs 3 years ago, keeping a promise I made to myself, that I would stop colouring my hair when they are more than 50% grey. I remembered in my 20s, thinking people over 40s are old. 😂 So, those seasons have turned and now, I gracefully accept it's my turn. To me, I want to redefine 'old'. My body is still relatively trim, arms fairly toned, due to daily 3 hours of exercises of walking, weights and yoga. I try to be benevolent about most things, unlike my firecracker days. So, old is good.

    Love this, thank you. It's always good to have an opinion from someone on the outside looking in.... I have moved into my 50s now. Every decade I feel like I have to learn how to dress all over again. I've just always tried to dress age appropriate. I am almost 52, I'm allowed to have some grays and some lines. I don't think at this point I'm going to hide it.
    When I was young I always admired older women that just looked put together. I didn't expect them to look like me, an 18 year old. I admired a classy, put together look. I also like the older ladies who can wear trendy stuff, but you better have the personality to match it.
    I'd like to see a video on more casual looks, because I don't go out in jackets. I live in the south. I don't have a corporate job. My church is casual. The only time I would ever worry about these styles is an occasional wedding, funeral or party. I also hate jeans, the are too hot and uncomfortable to me.

It was my choice to click on the thumbnail, to watch the video and continue watching. Most presenters on UA-cam are making thee constant dicslaimers. It should not be necessary. Your suggestions for adjusting clothing choices are very interesting and valid observations. I’m 75 next week and I like to be stylish, so although I’m slim and fit, there are age related changes I have and continue to make so I look and feel comfortable and appropriate. Where I bristle a bit is the expression of “looking like an old lady”, inferring that being old is an undesirable stage of life. Perhaps words like frumpy, outdated etc. that refer to the style, not our age would be more appropriate. What really ages people is having the same haircut for decades, especially from the 80s. Some older ladies like the teased, poufy look, and that is their right. It ages their look, however.

      I let my hair go silver back in 2015. It softens my face. I grew tired of having color touch ups all the time. However a good cut and style is important if one chooses that option or not. I like to change the style at least every couple of years. Since it is coarse l have to make sure it is healthy and shiny. My stylist has promised never to give me an old lady cut.😅

      At our age (I’m a young 66) style is relative I don’t shop at Chicos or Coldwater Creek, or Talbots. (This is “old” to me! ) I watch young fashion influencers and adapt my style. If my 30 yr old nieces wouldn’t wear it, I’m not. I don’t let my belly or love handles stick out of midrise jeans,(I’m loving the high waisted wide leg style for my body type,) so glad “skinny jeans “ are out!! Classic items are a good choice for anyone. Sometimes a small touch of leopard somewhere is great, shoes, a pair of earrings, a tank. Younger people in my family actually ask MY advice on outfits! And, as others have said, it’s all about embracing your age. I know I don’t look 40, but I could probably still pass for 55! But I love saying my age out loud, I don’t get the lying about it, people know by other signs anyway we aren’t really fooling anyone! We need to be ourselves & chances are if you had no style when you were younger, you don’t have style now. But, that’s fine too!

      Of course being blessed to age is wonderful. 🧡I was referring to a look. For instance when we discuss a teenager, you have an image in your mind of a typical teenager, although there are some out of the box that aren’t what you’d expect and can be common these days… or a mother, or a model, or a person with certain illnesses. We all imagine a typical look when describing a stage in life, it isn’t meant derogatory, it’s to explain/describe.😊 I do appreciate you sharing your thoughts and perspectives as well.

    When I was in my teens back in the late 70’s/early 80’s, older women used to often wear clear plastic kerchiefs over their newly set hair. I remember my best friend and I wondering why women would choose to go out in public looking like that. We were a bit afraid that we’d reach a certain age and suddenly wearing plastic kerchiefs would become a viable option. We swore to one another that we’d never do it.
    We’re pushing 60 now and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be an issue. The wearing of plastic kerchiefs has become a thing of the past as that generation has passed on.

She then said to me …I see you in your jewelry. How many necklaces do you have on?…..We counted them ….. SEVEN! Wow! I hadn’t really counted. Just made my choices when dressed and that’s what I usually wore. Most were ropes of one or one or two could twist around twice and then little shorter ones. One was usually a “charm” type, with dangles on it. Anyway that was back in early 2000s. She was a sweet 20-something. I retired in 2015 at 69. Lol! 😜

    The one unequivocally great thing about reaching "that certain age" is that one no longer needs to care quite so much what others think of one's choices.
    I can remember being a teen and crying myself to sleep because a mean girl told me I looked "too skinny" for my chosen attire.
    Now at 60 I wear whatever I want and though I wouldn't wear clothes that don't flatter my figure, I'm certainly not going to avoid wearing something that somebody might - oh, the horror! - deem "too young" for me.

    Ok...I get it. Absolutely. I'm 55+ and I want to look stylish, but recognize that I'm not always going to please everyone. You know (me thinking out loud here), there is a certain freedom to being older. I worried so much in my 20s, 30s, and 40s about what people thought of me if I wore certain things that were too big, too small, too slouchy. I worried about being too big, too short, etc. You get what I'm saying. I recognize the value of altering things that are currently on trend to fit our changing bodies. We want to look good and feel good, but darn it! I don't want to care sometimes, lol. It should be about how it makes you feel. 'Old lady' has such a negative connotation, doesn't it? It is what it is. What I think I look like in my mind is different from what I see in the mirror, and perhaps starting with being kind to each other is where we begin. I'm still learning to be kind to myself because you know it's hard not to find negativity out there every day. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and great ideas.

    I enjoyed the video. Some of these tips should be common sense, but of course, the video focuses on those who struggle with fashion as they get older. I am 65, and I have always enjoyed looking my best, and that can be done at any age. The issues I see with many women in my generation are two things. First, we have "The Lola's, who keep looking at young women to keep up with their styles, not realizing they are no longer young. Then, of course, we have those who give up and let themselves go, acting like they are okay in their old age! Those are people more prone to having health issues as they age.
    I decided when I was young that I wanted to grow old gracefully! So, as I age, I like that I can dress elegantly and young people can't do that! Whether in Jeans at a Gala, I can always look put-together and elegant. That's why I like to watch these types of videos, as they can give our age group more options as they age.
    Aging can be a beautiful thing. I still have men that swamp around me, I love it!

    Great ideas, thank you. I'm guilty of wearing clothes too big. I see comments about not caring after "a certain age". I care because I'm not happy with what I see in the mirror and appreciate advice. It's about ME being happy not everyone else. So thank you!

    I love my big sweatshirts.I live in Boston wear them about 70 percent of the year. Being comfortable .and saving money on clothes is way more important to me than what anybody thinks of me.

    At a moment, when I am feeling empowered to wear something sexy or fun, you are telling me that I should value what a 20 year old thinks more than I do?
    No thank you.

    Why let a younger generation determine your relevancy? You are just giving into ageism. Mid-life is the time to stop giving an F about all that. And honestly, my mother in law and her friends who are in their 70s and 80s and they are very coordinated and they look great, put together, and absolutely gorgeous and proud. I hate this shame game. We are coming into our power and you’re advice is to please the younger generations.

    • @StylishandGrateful
      @StylishandGrateful  11 місяців тому

      Totally!😊 It isn’t about shaming or changing anyone. 🌻 Giving my perspective to those who care to know or want some direction or want to consider what they are doing during the process of aging is helping in my opinion. Certainly no one is forced to listen. Take what you like, leave what you don’t. I just give advice based off my own experience to hopefully help others. 🍁 Thank you so much for tuning in and giving your perspective, I do appreciate it. 🧡

    I'm 65, I've had 5 children. The most that you have shared, I agree with tremendously. My favorite is in the end. You, do you. My whole life because of genetics, having 5 children, and a whole lot of stress, I have a belly. I hate it! I have to deal with it. I wear lots of high waist clothing, like the baby doll dress. Well, with that being said, I feel at times even though it looks better on my frame. I'm too old for the style. What would you suggest?

    • @StylishandGrateful
      @StylishandGrateful  11 місяців тому +1

      Hi Dori! Thank you for tuning in and sharing.🌻 I totally understand, I had 4 kids and tons of stress too. I too have a belly (mostly not because of the foods I love😉), that I have learned to disguise. It is helpful that I’m tall, that camouflages a lot too.
      What I opt for when I’m feeling a little heavier in the mid section is a button down shirt or a third layer. I do this all year round and I find it is the most forgiving and stylish easy look. Hope that helps 🧡🍁😊

      I shop at thrift stores. I never buy anything that looks worn out or damaged, & people always think that my clothes are brand new & expensive. Especially if you like to wear a trend but don’t want to spend a lot of money

    For any age, the ONLY rule you need is : if you lived thru/wore a specific trend in your youth (cropped sweaters, low slung jeans, docs with baby doll dresses etc) you are not allowed to repeat that trendy trend as an "adult". But life is short, wear what you want...you'll figure this out over 50 kiddo.❤

    • @StylishandGrateful
      @StylishandGrateful  11 місяців тому +1

      That’s a good rule😎 I like that! And yes! For sure, in the end wear what makes you happy regardless🧡 But some people like direction or a few seconds opinions, so that’s what I’m sharing 😉🌻 thank you for tuning in and sharing your tip! I’m totally implementing that idea 👍

      There is nothing wrong with looking one's age. Just wear well cut items that flatter your shape and make you feel good when you look in the mirror. I hope I never look "hip" again.

    I am 70 next year, living in UK and would not dream of wearing any of the frumpy clothes you mention, so not sure who would? I do love a maxi skirt, but narrow cut and worn with tee shirt in summer, but then I am 5ft 9in and I can often buy the ones that are on sale as many ladies are too short to wear them. I used to wear gold finish jewellery, but feel that looks a bit old lady now, so prefer silver and more streamlined, modern stuff, only one item usually, although maybe a silver bangle and earrings if going out in the evening. I live in a cold, windswept area, so always on the lookout for modern cut, warm coats, like puffers, cut well, often at a bargain price in TK Maax!
