I live in California and being grid-tied is mandatory. I’ve found it to be very convenient as we don’t need batteries and the energy company’s net meter gives us credit for when we are producing more than we use. In the summer, even with the AC running, we get a ton of credits. We get the benefits of using the grid at night while knowing we are more than offsetting our power usage. Hopefully the energy company there will wise up and allow you to receive credits for your power generation soon.
Would be nice but in general it doesn't work almost nowhere in the EU. In contrary here they introduced system usage fee for the surplus you feed into the grid. No net meters anymore, but separate input/output metering and you have to be a mathematician and a lawyer to understand the contract and counting. Practicly you pay for the electricity you pump back in surplus. Mind numbing crazy.

It’s true. I’m Portuguese and I can attest to that. Portugal is a small country and most jobs are centered in Lisbon and Porto, which are also the main places tourists and nomads try to move to. Unfortunately, we are completely outpriced of the cities, even though I feel like the whole country is being gentrified. More foreigners coming in, more Portuguese leaving the country. It’s shameful and sad that politicians are selling us, prioritizing foreign income instead of bettering the quality of life of the people that live and work here every single day. Might as well just annex the stupid country to Spain, to be honest. It’s a lost cause…
