Anything you can do yourself, do it. You'll save so much and it's nice to know you've put the work into it. Most of house revo stuff you can find on here anyways and it's as hard as you might think.
My thoughts exactly. These days you can learn so much DIY knowledge on UA-cam and just leave the precarious stuff like electrical work and sanitation/water to experts. And get help of friends for the heavy lifting etc.

You’re right it’s a different climate with much less sun. In the UK there are issues with raising damp and humidity. Likely the cottage wasn’t well insulated hence the walls which also hide any new plumbing, heating and electric.
There may also be fire code regulations for separation and doors between rooms.

Good format! I agree a fireplace would have made it better. Building materials/skilled labour are expensive so l can see why it cost that, but its probably worth more than he spent now.

To be honest..the "whatsap my boys" was kinda funny a few years ago, but for me its feels kinda silly nowadays. I see what you guys are trying to do with your new/old style ;-). Maybe a poll with a new opening question, but i think properally everone will choose "whatsup"...so who am i....😅

I remember seeing that reno. He took all the character and charm out of the house, really. A stone cottage needs stone on the inside and much less modern. I cringed at the drywall, yikes. Please don't make the same mistakes. Madeira won't need insulation inside, just repointing outside and inside and better windows, so no need for drywall. I get that he's a young guy looking for a cheap place to live, so it's almost forgivable, but please don't do what he did to that beautiful lil cottage. They need to be full of character and rustic and look somewhat trapped in time and this is not that.
I think he did his best. To preserve the original features you will be spending twice as much money unfortunately.
I think you guys can hit this one out of the park. But remember... location,location,location. My father once told me that when you buy you are selling. So make sure all the boxes are checked.

First I'd secure the property and then yall have another home so it's not like you need to do it imediatly in order to move in. I'd let it marinate there while munching every video there's on working with these properties (The indie projects first house, modern house cabin, etc) and buying couple things as prices flutuate in order to get the best deals.
I've been seeing a british couple in Portugal working in a stone house (@LifebyLiving) and honestly "your's" seems easier so I think it's totally doable as long as yall are willing to get dirty and understand it will eventually be frustrating.
