Day 2 of Asking AlphaDefence what’s the status of ak 203 and why are we not scrapping or reducing its quantity?
Answer 1: the Amethi factory does not manufacture all the parts of the of the gun. Some parts are manufactured in Russia. There is also royalty and other payments involved in this transaction. Both of which are stuck due to Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Answer 2: When a contract is made there are some conditions that are placed on the parties involved that they have to follow. To change any part of it or whole of the contract all the parties will have to agree to those changes. The govt may take actions if the deadlines are not met on time but govt also has to consider political situation and the dynamics with Russia wrt defence relations.
Also govt cannot scrap it cuz a lot money has been invested and it will be seen as a big failure on their part and ofcourse it will harm the defence relations with Russia.
Govt is trying to create a defence ecosystem here in our country, due to various hurdles it will take time. So just relax!
Answer 3: when foreign defence companies train Indian factory workers they teach them their best practices. It provides skillful workers to the industry who can further be used to develop other new weapons. On this part also its necessary that govt tries to make this contract work.

This first high speed-tax trial/ first flight of tejas-mark-1a could be a small step for hal/ada but a giant flight for the iaf, because this could be the beggining of the end of chronic squadron strength of iaf.

This shows the capability of Indian engineering and manufacturing prowess. We have the ability to make everything that we need. The only hurdles are those western puppets sitting in the bureaucracy and the acquisition department of the armed forces. Modi ji's biggest challenge will be to remove these bad apples and then we will have a fine tuned production line of indigenous weapons.

1st flight completed 13:15 hrs, good thing is we arent waiting for VIP be it PM to be present on spot this should be SOP, a lot of push came from PM Modi and Late Manohar Parrikar Sir, Tejas indeed got its wings in Parrikar Sir tenure. Wherever he is He would be smiling. I hope we can build upon it.

I recently watched a panel discussion where our ex airforce chief Mr Bhadauria was present and he commented that Tejas is as good a aircraft as Mirage 2000. Can you please explain us what he actually meant. Because Mirage 2000 is a 40 year old aircraft and Dassault had already stopped its manufacturing. So what is the actual reality of Tejas? Is there any comparison between the two aircraft. Please explain to a layman like me who is also a defence enthusiast.
Most probably he said its as good as the Indian upgraded MIRAGE 2000 & not the 40yrs old one.
Also Mirage 2000 is a Delta wing design like Tejas hence suitable for comparison
We have observed that Mirage 2000 is the go to aircraft of IAF for most missions
Tejas being better than Mirage 2000 is good news for us
Mirage 2000 is one of the best Aircrafts even today. If Dassault had not stopped manufacturing it, then it would have been much ahead of even F16.

I have a question regarding ugram rifle. Was it made as a backup/replacement for failure to go ahead with ak203 (failure as in one or the other problem) ? And what is the future scope of the rifle? Will Indian army switch to 7.62x51 nato for chinese front? As even previously they panic bought sig 716. As if they knew from before that 7.62 nato is better suited for our mountain warfare?

I have a general question about the profile of a fighter aircraft where we can often see an air bypass adjacent to the air intake of the aircraft that takes in air near the air intake and probably releases it above the wings. Photo shows clearly that the 1 mt plug has not been added behind the cockpit which means same short range is present. Better than nothing but far from what we need.
Tejas mk 1, 1a are very tiny and limited power , it would be a good for twin - engine with 11000- 13000 kg empty weight.
