  • In connection with the birth centenary of the celebrated composer and musician Sangeetha Kalanidhi Mahavidwan Sriman Mysore Vasudevachar in the year 1965, All India Radio broadcast a special programme on the life and music of Sri Vasudevachar, featuring a special talk in English on the great composer (celebrated as Abhinava Tyagaraja), by his disciple His Highness Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wodeyar, then Governor of Madras State (who was himself a great composer of Carnatic Music). The talk was followed by excerpts of various recordings of Sri Vasudevachar performed for All India Radio. Nādabhṛṅga takes great pleasure in sharing this rare archival recording in connection with the 156th birth anniversary of Mahavidwan Sri Mysore Vasudevachar (28th May, 2021). Sri Vasudevachar's musical recordings represent one of the rare links we have today with an earlier era of Carnatic music. The programme details are:
    1. His Highness Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wodeyar speaks about Sri Mysore Vasudevachar [00:00]
    2. vanajākṣā (varṇam) - rītigauḷā - khaṇḍa aṭa - vīṇā kuppaiyar [07:38]
    3. parātparā raghuvara - tōḍi - ādi - mysūrū vāsudevācār [13:23]
    4. rāma bāṇa trāṇa - sāvērī - ādi - tyāgarāja [25:19]
    5. ayi murali mukunda (śloka - selection from "śrī kṛṣṇa karṇāmṛtam") - bihāg - līlāśuka [34:35]
    Nādabhṛṅga consists of a consortium of enthusiasts and collectors of Indian Classical Music who are intent on sharing good quality recordings of the erstwhile Masters from a compendium of archival recordings, carefully collected over several decades. The music we share here will hopefully serve as an archival source for current and future generations of musicians, students, aficionados and connoisseurs. In case of any copyright disputes, kindly contact us and we will remove the video. Nādabhṛṅga is NOT a monetized channel. Any ads that do feature here are due to third party copyright claims, which are unavoidable.

    Good to hear a older version of Todi without over gamakization that we see in more recent Todis. I have heard Dhanammal version also on similar lines. Wonder if Todi sounded closer to Dhenuka/ Sindhu Bhairavi a century or two ago.

    Beautiful vintage. Such a privilege to hear these 2 great people. Could not help but notice an uncanny resemblance - HH Yaduveer Krishnaraja Wodeyar's voice to HH Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar.

    Superb. No words to thank you for the great upload. It's a treasure which is so pristine. Beautiful raga delineation by the master. Wonderful talk by the maharaja who happens to be the master's student as well. How subdued the accompaniments, revering the master. At the ripe old age how he sings with sruthi sudham. Recording is so crystal clear. Fantastic. Once again thank you very much for uploading this treasure trove

    Notice how the Bihag is presented almost exactly like Hindustani Raag Gaud Sarang. 🙏🏾

    • @Nadabhrnga
      @Nadabhrnga  3 роки тому +1

      Gaud Sarang was known in some gharanas as "Din ki Bihag". So the similarity isn't surprising.

    • @devanshphadke
      @devanshphadke 3 роки тому

      Indeed! As Gaud Sarang has no trace of Raganga Sarang, it is otherwise referred to as Din Ki Bihag. Quite interesting raga and such a delight to see how these masters handle it.

    Namaste Thank you for one of the rarest recordings presented.His voice was so strong and musical even at his advanced age. I think the first piece and the rest are from two different recordings.If possible please post the dates of recording.The Todi looks a little different from what we are hearing today.
    Thanks again

      Yes, you are right. A collection of various recordings of the great Master were broadcast by All India Radio for his centenary. The entire programme is reproduced here as such. It would be difficult to put exact dates to these individual recordings, without more authentic information.
