    if you could ever do a video on singing akin to someone like Jonny Craig, Tyler Carter, Derek Discanio or Ollie from Broadside I would be so incredibly appreciative.

    Hey man, I love your videos. You've helped me so much, and it feels so nice to be able to learn from a real authentic guy like yourself who loves to sing the music I do. The only thing that would make me happier, is to have more videos of yours to watch, because I'd like to know everything you're vocalist teacher taught you. I understand that you might have a busy life though, so I'm happy to wait. Thanks for all the help though, and I look forward to hearing about your own journey

    Thank you so much Doug :) I have been taking a lot of notes off of your channel and have applied them to my voice, and I've shocked my family - I went from basically singing in falsetto all the time to really belting out lyrics and putting my all into music. So here's to you XD

    I seriously love that you do these videos 'cause, like you said, there isn't really any videos out there that teach about singing this genre & I've searched around for a while to see who there was & couldnt find anybody. But one day i found your videos, & the first one I saw was the neutral larynx one cause i was having trouble with that & just, when I heard you sing i was like "holy shit he's amazing 0.0" & i figured what you're teaching has to be working cause like how your singing is proof you know? Lol & im just so glad i found your channel, 'cause im not where i wanna be yet but im definitely a lot better than i was a few months ago when i didnt do any vocal exercises lol

      +Jules Zotta Yep just read that. Thanks man! I did singing lessons with some tutors who really didn't understand the sound we are going for. Yeah vocal exercises are like exercises in the gym etc. Just strengthens different parts of your voice with recurring practice!

      +Chad Philander Thanks Chad! That's the idea. Basically I wanted to learn to sing like my favourite bands - The Wonder Years, Pierce The Veil. I had no idea what they were doing to get that power sound haha. Almost 2 years of on and off vocal lessons got me to where I am now, and now I'm sharing the journey with you guys watching! Thanks again, I wont stop making videos.

    Could you do a video on how to start for a complete beginner who thinks they can't sing at all with an aim of being able to sing well enough to play stuff like TWY/The Hotelier etc with some chords on guitar, not necessarily how to become a front-man/live singer :)

    For higher songs that are set in f4#-c5# phrases, are u meant to do this exercise are very high notes if u want to sing very high phrases? Or can u do this exercise on a low song and it will still get rid of the tension in the higher range?

    Hey Doug, I've been singing my whole life and I started screaming/growling when I was 11. I am now almost 16 with a pretty impressive screaming range but I kinda lost some of my singing range when I was around 12 because my voice changed. When my voice changed I kinda focused more on screaming but now I've become so used to screaming that whenever I can't hit a high note I automatically turn it into a scream and the same for whenever I want to add a little rasp, it becomes a scream. Could you possibly do a "retrain your voice/break bad habits" video that addresses my issue and a few other common issues? Keep up with the awesome content man, it's simple yet it works! :D

  • @CameronHollis
    @CameronHollis 6 років тому

    useful information but my only complaint is that your theory is actually flawed. the reason the more stacatto causes more discomfort is due to it being a "glottal stop" causing air to be trapped below the false vocal chords, meaning its a harsher release of air on your throat, hence why it causes tension. the more flowing airflop in your ballad section is due to it being a simultaneous onset meaning that the air flows more comfortably and cause less strain on your voice. it also means you need to anchor through the neck giving your throat the support, inadvertently giving you more support and less restriction. So youre not wrong but you arent particularly right either.

    not getting this, I can tense my abs as much as I can but if there's no tension in the throat there will be no sound.

    • @MarleyRae
      @MarleyRae 6 років тому

      Actually, singing from the diaphragm allows your vocals to come out as forte without having to strain. It's not just about tensing your abs, you need to breathe from the muscle underneath your lungs, which pushes the sound out without killing your vocal chords (Im classically trained in choral music but sing in a pop punk band im not just a bitch lol)
