    This is a video that you can follow along with EVERY time you want to sing for a long period. Practicing at home, performing a gig etc. The 20 minute vocal warm up gets me going, putting my voice in the right place. I do this five times a week, because I want to take care of my singing voice. If you do not warm up and go straight into singing heavy music, it just reinforces bad habits which you will ultimately have to learn to retrain with more exercises... so make sure you warm up!
    1. The dopey OH sounds at the beginning help to keep the voice relaxed and add depth.
    2. The bright AH sounds allow the brightness in the voice to warm up
    3. The bright EE sounds also adds brightness but for when you sing an "ee" vowel.
    Lastly, just take your connected chest type voice as high as it can go without breaking, then when it breaks continue in the unconnected sound.
    If I want to warm up my voice 100% it takes me one hour OR until night time if i've been socialising a lot and using my voice.

    I like the warmup a lot, but you might want to consider adding a metronome for future lessons, singing in time is just as valuable as being able to sing.
    EDIT
    Also, to anyone watching this video, don't do these exercises sitting down, standing up expands your diaphragm to help with singing.

      ^^^ this. could you re-upload this in a version that doesn't speed through some of the warmups so quickly? especially during the parts where it goes into falsetto and you hardly leave any time to properly complete the warmups.

    Hey Doug! You're so great, because unlike any other vocal mentor you're focusing about post-hardcore/pop-punk which is rarely to see at UA-cam. I always watching your video 'How To Sing Like Vic Fuentes' and it's really helping me working on my mix voice, keep doing great videos Man! Good luck.
    Greetings from the Philippines.

    • @Dougzed
      @Dougzed  8 років тому +1

      +Rogelio Pamilacan Thank you! Did you know i'm half filipino? I'm glad the Vic Fuentes video helped you. Part 2 goes even further in depth after you've done the mixed voice exercise. The key for unlocking those high notes will be singing in that lighter mixed voice and later on- rolling up the weight so it sounds just like your lower notes! Use this warm up before you sing.

    • @choypamilacan1067
      @choypamilacan1067 8 років тому

      You're welcome Doug! Really? I didn't know you're half filipino but you look kinda. Yes I've already watched the part 2 and some of your videos too. Thanks to your advices. I'm currently working on my vocal techniques and not to imitate vic so much since I like his voice haha.

With other influences, and your guidance, I finally got the motivation to quit smoking and destroying my voice and to throw my passion into singing. Trying to start a band with some friends and really need to take my vocals where I want. I've had nothing but good feedback since I started using your warm-up especially. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. And when are you gonna make a video on expanding range?? Thanks for everything.

    So, is there a particular order that exercises need to be done? I mean I'm definitely adding everyday vocal exercises to my schedule, but could you suggest which of all the exercises are needed to be done/ what worked out for you etc. ? (I'm also trying to get that 'post-hardcore' cheesy voice so...yeah...:P )

    I also find this helpful if you do these same exercises (the low section anyway) and try adding vocal fry to it. Nothing too fancy. It doesn’t sound pretty. But as someone who considers himself an unclean vocalist more than a clean, it helps me get into the mood.

    Awesome man! can't wait to try it, doug have you ever dealt with a vocal injury or just vocal damage? having to rest your voice and such?. Happening to me right now, not sure what caused it, but i assume it was over-practicing. Odd thing is the ENT didn't see anything wrong with my vocal cords, so i have no idea how to deal with it other than rest. Quite frustrating!.

    • @Dougzed
      @Dougzed  8 років тому

      +Misael V. Sorry to hear it. I have never had a nodule or anything like that but a few weeks ago I was pushing the wrong style of voice too hard and my vocal tutor told me to take a week off. Take two weeks off from singing, then spend a few days attempting to sing lighter. If you want more info you should ask my vocal tutor for some advice since he is an expert- Phil Moufarrege.

    • @CrimsonHeart3
      @CrimsonHeart3 8 років тому

      Doug Zeigenbein thing is i apparently have no vocal problems on the cords that the ENT can see, 2 formal doctors prescribed me some "solutions" but nothing helped.
      Been resting completely for almost 2months now,.
      I am doing some things that mark baxter recommended.
      Been singing and improving without problems for about 3years, so this came out of nowhere., grrr.

    • @Dougzed
      @Dougzed  8 років тому +1

      Yeah I am really empathetic. I probably have less knowledge on vocal issues like that, than you do. Sorry I can't help- I have never experienced a serious issue.

    • @CrimsonHeart3
      @CrimsonHeart3 8 років тому +1

      Doug Zeigenbein And i hope you don't brother! the whole proccess has been a major drag, wouldn't wish it upon anybody. If theres anything i've learned from this proccess is to value knowledge of damage prevention, like routine voice rest days, which i foolishly didn't have.
      Definitely don't want to experience this again, life feels empty without singing and the whole striving to improve journey.

    • @Dougzed
      @Dougzed  8 років тому +1

      I can imagine how empty life without singing would be I agree. Yes okay I'll keep pushing damage prevention as a basis of why you should learn correct technique! Goodluck Miseal. Just realised you've been watching my videos for months. Thanks so much and I wish you the best and a speedy recovery.

    I feel as though, with respect, it shouldn’t be specified as gender. U should probably specify range such as soprano, alto, tenor, etc. I say this only bc I hit all the lower tones and I am a female. Just wanted to make sure u were aware of the different ranges despite the gender. However, I did find the warmups helpful. Tysm

  • @LucHeuer
    @LucHeuer 4 роки тому

    Good exercises, but the piano tempo is inconsistent and unpredictable. This is not good for the voice, especially warming up. We need to train the brain to feel secure in singing so that we can sound clear, strong, confident and not choppy. If we start off the day by training our brain to feel insecure in when to come in, it will be reflected in the quality of our singing and delivery of our performance.

    I seriously hate you when you play the chords on the high register because as you're not singing you do it faster and thats kind of rude ...like a subconscious way to exclude the people who want to continue the excercise on the high register section.

    • @Dougzed
      @Dougzed  3 роки тому +2

      It wasn't on purpose I must have accidentally sped up because I was not singing so I lost my sense of rhythm. I have other vocal workouts on my channel which I don't think have this issue.
