It's awesome to see someone famous doing something they're not known for like this.

It's always so interesting and informative to get these history lessons after listening to the song.

Yes, it is. The song is the starting point and then the history behind the song leads you into more information. Then I go and read as much as I can to top it all off. I think I'll need a spare brain to hold all this info!! 😁❤️

Look up Belgium's King in WWI. The last serving Monarch to serve at the front.

Things like this USED to be taught in just about every school. Growing up in Alaska, I got a really good schooling, all the way through from even Kindergarten, up until I graduated (with our class of 13...seriously...at age 19...with my baby girl crying for her mama and daddy while sitting on my mother-in-law's lap, as I read my valedictorian address.
I was nearly two when my dad, my mom, my baby brother, and I reached Valdez, Alaska after driving the quite brand new and very "iffy" Alaska/Canada (AlCan) Highway in the summer of 1951.
By the time I finished 6th grade, this story is one I'd heard, from many different directions. Learning about wars wasn't new to me, because my dad was still pretty fresh off of the Italian shores. After Patton wasn't allowed to finish out his assignment when the war-ended, my dad and the unit he was with (the motorized and medical brigade that followed Patton everywhere), he and the others in that division stayed (I think it was) another six months there in Italy, during what Daddy always called "The Occupation," because what they were doing was basically keeping the peace and making sure that the right people got into the correct offices (ones who had been ousted, previously, by the Marxists). Doesn't that sound pretty familiar right now? Daddy's stories about those times are what has helped ALL of us kids be HUGE patriots. He taught us well, AND we also learned about them AT SCHOOL! We also learned of the THIS story, and others, about more than one nation...fascinating!!!
I was really surprised when I heard Dan Vasc talk about that very same time, which is when the Brazilian troops were FINALLY allowed to get "into the fray," which was basically over. It's very possible that my dad and Dan's uncle may have met while they were over there, because that's where the Brazilian troops went!
One story that I always found interesting about that time, that my dad told, was that's where he learned to cross stitch! Seriously! After Daddy died, Mom still had the beautiful tapestry he had stitched while staying there in Italy. I think my sister Cindi inherited it. I'll have to ask her. He taught my mom to cross stitch, and she taught me.
Good stuff, Bill! Thank you VERY much for reacting to this! 😀

I think you were very lucky in your schooling. Most of what I was interested in as a kid they never taught in school. I would have to take out books from the library and read all I could. I'm mostly speaking of the mid-20th century from the crash of '29 and the Great Depression through WWII. they didn't even do a good job with the Napoleonic Wars or the Spanish Indian War.
Thank you for sharing, my friend! Always love reading your comments! ❤️

@@BemusingBill Those parts of our history is what my mom and dad knew about the most, because they lived through it all, and I was born not that long after the war was over, so everything was still very fresh to them. Most of our teachers in our schools in Old Valdez were also freshly out of the era that was history, but still fresh in their minds. Back then, we also were taught both Geography and History, as WELL as Social Studies, instead of the mish-mash that is made with JUST (a limited amount of) Social Studies, these days (sigh).

It is not true, at least within the Nordic countries, that royalty lacks knowledge in warfare. The lowest rank for officers is ensign. General and admiral are the highest ranks, and only ÖB, who is a general, and King Carl XVI Gustaf, who is both a general and an admiral, are at that level.
Swedish Prince Carl Philip is a reserve officer in the amphibious corps and holds the rank of major.
Crown Princess Victoria has basic training in the military, but because she will one day take over from her father the King, she is trained in the Army, Navy and Air Force.
The King and Prince of Norway also have military training and degrees.
The same applies to the King of Denmark.
Even Britain's Queen Elisabeth II had military training, so did her sons and grandsons.

Yes, the monarchy is usually tied to the military. I know that's the case in the UK. Thank you for the information regarding Sweden. Now, I must research all of the people you mentioned. This is what Sabaton does: makes me want to know more and fans like you add to that knowledge. Much thanks to you, my friend! 🤘❤️🤘

Thank you for that! I used to add the history to the song all in one, but thanks to UA-cam, we found it's better to separate them. Love their history channel! 🤘❤️🤘

This was fascinating. I never knew that Swedish forces had ever penetrated that far south into Germany, nor the reason why. The discussion about where Sabaton sings in Swedish and where they don't was interesting. It's unfortunate that in the primarily English-speaking countries there aren't many Swedish versions sung at concerts but I understand why. However, I prefer the Swedish versions as the English versions don't sound right to my ears.

Yeah, after this video I had to go and read up about it. i've been learning a lot about Sweden from the 700's through the 1700's. Such a history! Since starting this channel I've learned so much about Scandinavia more than my entire life! I am so amazed!
