    A little fun fact: when he refers to playing the pipes, Scottish highland bagpipes (the ones that make the sound you think of when you think of Scotland) were outlawed by the English at the time and were actually seen as an instrument of war (basically trying to kill Scottish culture)

    The movie Outlaw King depicts this exact story, it basically picks up after Braveheart.

      As a Scotsman familiar with my history it's a great film far better than braveheart. One of the lesser known Scottish hero's in the film is the black Douglas already a powerful figure during the Bruce's guerilla campaigns he was left to continue harassing the English forces in the borders while the Bruce tackled his domestic enemies in the north. During this time he became a bogie man for the English he even burnt down his own ancestral home with the enemy garrison barricaded inside. After the Bruce died Douglas had his heart removed and sealed in a casket then carried it on crusade to be buried in the holy land. Legend has it when surrounded by superior forces he took the casket said " lead on braveheart I will always follow" he then threw the casket into the enemies ranks and charged after it. It is said his body was found holding the casket after the battle. Everything we know about him paint's a shocking picture he was loyal beyond belief to the Bruce and an absolute battle junkie.

      It does a fairly good job depicting parts of the battle but both sides forces are depicted with far fewer soldiers then the real battle I believe they say Bruce had 500 against an English 8000 which is not historically accurate

    Interestingly enough, Wallace himself didn't fight for Bruce, he was fighting for the former king who was being held down in London at the time. The film brave heart is based on a propaganda story from a blind monk that binds the two.

    You should delve in to the story of macbeth its around of the start of english/norman influence in scotland. Alot of the scottish lords where actually defendants of normans like the bruce and the stewarts. Thats why the where easly manipulated, alot had lands in england.

    Robert the Bruce does having a role in the movie Braveheart he is supposed to be the prince who fought, initially with William but later turn traitor only to do a heel faced turn and rally his troops at the end of the movie to win freedom.
    A much better depiction is in a movie called Outlaw King.

    Great reaction! 🤘 There is a movie called "Outlaw King" that gives a good picture of Robert the Bruce. At least far more accurate than "Braveheart". Btw, one interesting detail in Braveheart is the romance between Wallace and the Princess of Wales... Sorry that I destroy a good story but, she wasn't on British soil yet. She came to England years after Wallace's execution.

    Hey Kit, I have suggestion in mind for a future video. Actually, two, now that I think about it. Both are by the Fat Electrician. The first one I recommend is his video on the Battle of Wake Island, and the second video is on a famous US Army Paratrooper, Jake McNiece, who he regards as an American Antihero. Also, to honor my Scottish heritage, SCOTLAND FOREVER!!!

    One more try...but I will be shocked if this stays up...folks have mentioned the Outlaw King movie from 2018, but there was a "competing" movie released in 2019 called Robert the Bruce. Both films appear to be well made and worth watching, I think. I will not try to even suggest any other thing for you to watch, since YT is clearly on alert level 100 out of 100 on this comment section.

    As someone who loves history, I cannot stand the movie "Braveheart" which is basically total fiction. Wallace was born to a lesser noble family, and I doubt he painted himself with woad and ran around with a two-handed great sword like an insane gerbil. He would have worn chainmail and armor in battle and lead his troops from horseback as shown in every monument to him.

    • @suntiger745
      @suntiger745 Рік тому

      He was sent to study warfare and french (among other things) in France so that part is accurate, even if the film just does a timeskip and gloss over it after his uncle picks him up.

    I wonder how much of Wallace's story is actually true and how much is legend. Last I recall alot of the claims can't be proven.

    ROFLMAO YT instantly deleted a joke I just made referencing Netflix attempting to "do history" by claiming that Robert the Bruce was not really Scottish...it seems as if what Netflix does to history is not a topic of conversation that YT allows without extremely close scrutiny...I can practically feel the bots trying to give me a "cavity" right now as I type this. 😂😂
