Hot take: population balance is more important than role balance. Turning people off from tanking and healing means longer wait times to form groups at all levels. IMO 1) let tanks be *mostly* self sufficient in dungeons to keep tanking fun, and 2) reduce DPS defensive 3) shift group damage away from burst and more to rot dmg to engage healers 4) make sure all healers have a simple, low gcd intensive way to contribute damage of they want while still focusing on heals.
"Mostly self sufficient" is exactly what the nerf did… Yoda went to solo the first oull of NW, sky isn’t falling. Tanking is fine, nerfed from DF godlike immortality sure , still fine.

The tank nerf really killed a lot of my hype tbh. Edit: I only do ksm each season, so not that big of keys. But pugging was rough i df, and this change just made it far harder it seems. S1 of SL is by far the worst season ive ever played, hopefully tww s1 won't be as kity. Also having vdh being the meta again would be rough.
@@icresp4263 world first level keys will absolutely kite, pulls big enough to time them are actually impossible to tank now regardless of play. So the world first key meta will be DH using jumps to kite - cc at first to grab aggro, then run and keep tagging with flame sigil. Low keys through +11, whether or not you need to depends on the healer. A good healer you should be fine, but if you pug a bad enough healer you may have to kite even in like a +2, assuming you don't massively outgear it. Good reason to play a DH if you pug, as tanks who are poor at kiting will just brick the key if they pull a bad healer, while a DH can manage.
Biggest reason I can't play bear again is because you just always see a bear. You never are different from any other druid. All of you have all of the same forms, and at the end of the day they're just variations of the same thing. No matter what you do you're still a bear or a owl bear same thing really. I'll probably play as prop paladin. Even though I know it's the weakest right now it'll get buffed.
He didn't talk much about Druid of the Claw, so I'll talk about my experience with it. If it were executed correctly it could have been a really fun class that relied on balancing cat DPS with bear bulk to get optimum amounts of both, but in it's current state the only reason to go into cat form is either if something is about to die and you wanna squeeze out a few numbers or if the enemy is so weak that you don't have to worry about it hitting you in the face. The abilities that are supposed to encourage cat weaving are really undertuned, and blizz hasn't really made an effort to synergize the cat abilities with the bear ones, which leaves you incredibly vulnerable while swapped into cat form. It's really disappointing, I was really looking forward to this class in TWW.
I expected the tank nerfs to make warriors better since they were already the tank with the least sustain and they reverted the nerf to impending victory. I’d really like for it to be the meta tank again, at least once.
The nerfs certainly weren't ideal, but i can't help but feel that brew plays super solid and should be just fine :) I could be just copium and I'm open to being proven wrong.
My best memories of tanking come from Cata and MoP, in my opinion tanking is best when you can pretty much solo a dungeon if you play your class right. I also loved dealing hella high dps as a tank back in those days too.
so many tank players literally just want to be a dps that takes no damage and is is the constant center of attention instead of one of 3 (or one of 2 with aug) damage dealers
This kind of insight for the different specs is exactly what I wanted while deciding what spec I should focus on and try out right now. i've found just pugging keys and playing with guildies to be the best way of finding your team. i've played with lots of different players and added the ones i liked playing with before i started playing with a set group
I'd VERY strongly recommend joining communities, I've met some of the nicest and most skilled players that way, depending on where you live : - Wow Made Easy if you play in NA - Chill Streak /No Pressure if you play in EU Vast communities with (tens of) thousands of players, a wide range of player skill and key levels, and strict rules to prevent people from being toxic which is M+ main downside to me. Reached 2800 rating in DF S1 and it was in great part thanks to these communities, they even have "tutorial" raid and M+ groups where experienced players guide newer players through more challenging content. These communities first used the Community tab in game but now they have official Discords so be sure to check them out, you won't regret it :)
Warrior on shadowlands dungeons was a pain - from what you described it sounds almost exactly like that plus we actually have some of the actual dungeons returning from shadowlands soooooo think I may skip warrior tanking in S1
Blood needing healer healing is gonna be rough of healers getting used to the changes since they were used to looking the the blue bar and not the red.
Warrior perpetually being a little meh just seems to be the goal. Thane was so much better than Colossus, but the Martial Prowess(?) (hero talent) seemed interesting as far as peak mitigation went. Thane had tons of rage to keep spamming Ignore Pain, but Colossus felt painfully rage starved all of the time.

I feel like the tank nerfs hit paladin the hardest. They took away a lot from the active mitigation, which is kind of their only strength, while other tanks mainly got their passive tankiness nerfed here and there. They were already pretty awful in self sustain.
They have done this before... Cata was a tank nuker... until gear popped up and the power systems came into play. 100% by the end of the first raid tier tanks will be chain pulling packs and soloing heroics again.
Main problem is, this affects pugging mythic plus keys and lfg more then anything, atm in +12’s I have to rely on healers to help me stay alive. It’s not really my fault or the healers fault, but what happens is at least 50% of the time if not more you have dps who have high IO and don’t kick the things they should, and then I end up getting one shotted, or for instance in brackenhide you will have hunters that don’t tranq shit the rage storms or rouges who don’t shiv it. Being as self reliant on my own heals and defenses was what made me love tanking because in a world where we put so much it was nice to know that as long as I play it right 90% of the time I could live. But now it’s going to cause not just me but more people to not wanna tank because of this. This doesn’t solve the issue blizzard was looking to solve, it’s the dps having to much self heals and to strong of defenses that is the problem not the tanks. I’m not a 3k IO player or the top 1% but neither is 99% of your player base, so the top 1% shouldn’t be what causes the other 99% to receive nerfs and have a harder time. I am 2460 IO atm and feel like that’s good for pugging the entire way.

No tank has to rely on a healer in a +12, especially brackenhide. Most of the nerfs have not even been implemented in the prepatch. Also the raging storm in bh is not supposed to be soothed, you are just supposed to not stand in it. Very much sounds like a skill issue is at play here
The nerfs really aren't as horrid as clickbaity UA-camrs sell it to be. Paladins are nowhere near dead as most claim, for instance. You're probably not even the 1% of the top player base these nerfs are aimed at, either, so you should be fine. Relax. 😂🤌🏼

It's never as bad as people claim. It's just the high end players that voice their discontent and then the normies echo those ideas when they don't understand it doesn't apply to their level of play. By the time you'll get good enough for mythic or high keys, it'll be better anyway. Especially when players will have more haste, versatility and better stats overall.
You can always dps keys and tank raid. You can play however you want. These changes really wont effect raid progression because those are usually pretty easy on tanks.

I hate this dependency on aug evoker. I knew from the start when the spec was announced this will be a problem. Now everything seems to be balanced around it and you will have to pick it the higher you go with keys
How come i don't see Tiger Palm on your action bar when playing Brew? I thought you went with Press the advantage to replace Tiger Palm, but as you are using Weapons of order, that can't be the case?
Tanking shouldn't be any more stressful than dps or healing. The game doesn't need to be overly challenging for it to be enjoyable. I could be wrong, but the 3.2 million daily FFXIV logins might agree with me.

i'm speaking from a high level m+ perspective. currently tanks are balanced to be weak but with the aid of aug/healers it becomes a lot more managable. if you're just doing key outside of the title range its completely fine obviously some of the specs don't demand for it as much(like with bdk i said its much more pug friendly and didn't mention healing/aug)
@Dorki I feel like we get lost in this top .1%. The key levels may not be as high, but pugging is just as difficult. Do you ever play with pug healers at a 10-12 range? It is rough. As a bdk, I never had to worry about my healer being shit because I could sustain myself, but the nerfs are definitely felt.

Most viewed and players don’t care about people’s attempts at +21 having anything to do with running +9-15. Top 10% and especially 1% are more important marks than .01% - the supply of .01 depends on the supply of the category below it and so on. The health of the game and the ramp to the highest are related to how this experience pans out

No one is doing “high keys” right now by your logic, which the video showcases as well; accordingly it hasn’t been tested by that logic either. Issues show themselves earlier and they continue to grow, and it encompasses most of the player base and by player base I mean people pursuing heroic drops and myth track gear from vault. If it’s there it’s an issue upward and if it’s at the top whatever course it takes dominates the lower. Organized play? Who cares, most of the game is pugs
Prot warr is my fave spec. Sucks we are falling a bit behind again and i dread having to rely on healers. Prob will go bear but ill still play all tanks generally.
This is from a push key perspective. My question is: Will it actually be harder to tank a +10 key in TWW than in S4? I think difficulty there won't be changed at all.
It will be harder, i was playing beta yesterday and key +5 and up, each melee hit from mob takes around 20-25 % of ur total HP. And your healling is reduced like half, without kite it was impossible to make it in time, becouse DH was so squishy without any def ability. Not to mention bosses, if your healer is noob you as tank or DPS die from total overhelming DMG, the only change from SL S4 is that if someone fail mechanic u as tank die also with group.
Lol back in the day with the Tbc it was way harder with every pull needed to sheep or cc mobs. Otherwise it was wipe everytime. You needed to know every mobs there abilities or you could one shotted or a healer mob just kept every mob a live.
Why didn't you mention the INSANE mana economy issue for Lightsmith? If played properly and ONLY using Shining Light(free) WoG's, you go OOM in almost exactly 3 minutes of straight gameplay.

Blizz just is in denial that making tanks weaker won't lead to a kite meta. Tanks are not going to trust healers to top them off. If they do not have the tools to deal with damage themselves, they will try to kite. Blizz seems to think they will just coordinate with healers more. That is just not how humans work in mmos

i see i am not the only one having problem with brew aggro ... 5min 52 all health bar turning red meaning loosing aggro. Think they need to buff the threath coef, should not be possible to loose aggro mid fight with add half of their health.
I unsubbed, refunded expansion, and the 6 people I played with did the same. Until Blizzard realized that FUN is why we play... I'm out. I'm not as good as you Dorki, and never would have been (I'm done with WoW), but I was 3300 last season (S3) ONLY PUGGING on prot warrior and super bummed at what this game has become. No matter what the reasoning, or "BLUE POST BULLSHIT", this tank nerf has effectively ruined pugging. All the goobers saying that this nerf has culled the trash... none of those monkies were 2500... let alone 3300 and running keys at levels that actually mattered. This game is dead for me, and hopefully hundreds of thousands of others quit too... forcing Ion to be removed, and a fresh team on non moron devs to take over.
Are you ok getting a just ok tank over a great tank? Cause if community didn't rag on tanks so much when they fail, more people might be less intimated. I know that was me years ago when I first got into tanking. Not saying you are one of those people but just something to think about.
Is not the nerf that make us not play a tank. Is the abuse we get. Specially those trying tank for the first time. Some of this ppl expect tanks even new ones to have a PhD in tanking and must know all dungeons and pulls all the way to the 3 expansion.

I have some nitpicks regarding Dorki's thoughts about Prot Paladin, but overall I agree with this video. Bear and Blood are the clear winners. Brew also is winning hard, but Brew started with a disadvantage so it remains slightly behind the top. Veng is mostly AFK, the community is bored of them, they're fine. Prot Pal and Prot Warr felt the Tank-Nerfs the hardest, if all or most of the Nerfs were reverted for Pal & Warr I think Tanks would probably be quite Balanced. Paladin in general is definitely "Clunky" now. All the random Quality of Life Nerfs over the past ~1-2 months have really bludgeoned Paladin-Gameplay & Talent-Design. I will still be Maining Paladin, but the Class is significantly worse in TWW than it was in Season 3/4 of Dragonflight. Still Fun, but downgraded Fun.
@@Gimpo925 There is one small solace for Prot Pal's though: Being able to store 2 Charges of LotP free-WOGs is HUGE and by itself adds a ton of Agency/Decision-Making to Prot Pal, the only problem is that Prot Pal is so... *brittle* at the moment that it's difficult to actually save any free-WOGs - Much of the time Prot Pal is white-knuckling while just trying to build up the 1st free-WOG. Before the Nerfs Prot Pal felt GREAT IMO, many Tank-Mains disagreed with me, but I had been reaching the point I could off-Heal as much as the actual Healer in Beta +5's-10's (and that was before the 2nd Charge of free-WOGs). So if the Pal Nerfs get reverted, or with the better item levels of Season 2+, then Prot Pal will be a force to be reckoned with. For Season 1 I recommend playing Holy, it's really fun too and Paladin is one of the easiest Classes to swap/learn different Specs on.

PuGs treat Aug as another DPS, so it's hard to get invited in groups compared to tanks and healers.

Made it more fun for me, I find tanking more fun when I'm more at risk of dying. As long as we don't end up kiting, so far doesn't look like it.

Solo tanking Garrosh as a prot warrior is one of my fondest memories of tanking, shit was so much fun.

What are the odds Blizzard will do the same thing they did in Season 1 and buff tanks as seasons advance to 2 and 3?
Warrior on shadowlands dungeons was a pain - from what you described it sounds almost exactly like that plus we actually have some of the actual dungeons returning from shadowlands soooooo think I may skip warrior tanking in S1
Blood needing healer healing is gonna be rough of healers getting used to the changes since they were used to looking the the blue bar and not the red.
Warrior perpetually being a little meh just seems to be the goal. Thane was so much better than Colossus, but the Martial Prowess(?) (hero talent) seemed interesting as far as peak mitigation went. Thane had tons of rage to keep spamming Ignore Pain, but Colossus felt painfully rage starved all of the time.
I’m starting to get into WoW and I’m really happy that Druid is gonna feel good going into the new expansion.
If you’re just getting into wow, don’t listen to any of this. Just play the game and have fun.

I feel like the tank nerfs hit paladin the hardest. They took away a lot from the active mitigation, which is kind of their only strength, while other tanks mainly got their passive tankiness nerfed here and there. They were already pretty awful in self sustain.

Valorant has a weird thing for that.
They have done this before... Cata was a tank nuker... until gear popped up and the power systems came into play. 100% by the end of the first raid tier tanks will be chain pulling packs and soloing heroics again.
Main problem is, this affects pugging mythic plus keys and lfg more then anything, atm in +12’s I have to rely on healers to help me stay alive. It’s not really my fault or the healers fault, but what happens is at least 50% of the time if not more you have dps who have high IO and don’t kick the things they should, and then I end up getting one shotted, or for instance in brackenhide you will have hunters that don’t tranq shit the rage storms or rouges who don’t shiv it. Being as self reliant on my own heals and defenses was what made me love tanking because in a world where we put so much it was nice to know that as long as I play it right 90% of the time I could live. But now it’s going to cause not just me but more people to not wanna tank because of this. This doesn’t solve the issue blizzard was looking to solve, it’s the dps having to much self heals and to strong of defenses that is the problem not the tanks. I’m not a 3k IO player or the top 1% but neither is 99% of your player base, so the top 1% shouldn’t be what causes the other 99% to receive nerfs and have a harder time. I am 2460 IO atm and feel like that’s good for pugging the entire way.

No tank has to rely on a healer in a +12, especially brackenhide. Most of the nerfs have not even been implemented in the prepatch. Also the raging storm in bh is not supposed to be soothed, you are just supposed to not stand in it. Very much sounds like a skill issue is at play here
If you're relying on a healer in current +12s you are already playing a tank incorrectly. These nerfs aren't on live.

It's never as bad as people claim. It's just the high end players that voice their discontent and then the normies echo those ideas when they don't understand it doesn't apply to their level of play. By the time you'll get good enough for mythic or high keys, it'll be better anyway. Especially when players will have more haste, versatility and better stats overall.
You can always dps keys and tank raid. You can play however you want. These changes really wont effect raid progression because those are usually pretty easy on tanks.

I hate this dependency on aug evoker. I knew from the start when the spec was announced this will be a problem. Now everything seems to be balanced around it and you will have to pick it the higher you go with keys

How come i don't see Tiger Palm on your action bar when playing Brew? I thought you went with Press the advantage to replace Tiger Palm, but as you are using Weapons of order, that can't be the case?
Tanking shouldn't be any more stressful than dps or healing. The game doesn't need to be overly challenging for it to be enjoyable. I could be wrong, but the 3.2 million daily FFXIV logins might agree with me.

i'm speaking from a high level m+ perspective. currently tanks are balanced to be weak but with the aid of aug/healers it becomes a lot more managable. if you're just doing key outside of the title range its completely fine
obviously some of the specs don't demand for it as much(like with bdk i said its much more pug friendly and didn't mention healing/aug)
@Dorki I feel like we get lost in this top .1%. The key levels may not be as high, but pugging is just as difficult. Do you ever play with pug healers at a 10-12 range? It is rough. As a bdk, I never had to worry about my healer being shit because I could sustain myself, but the nerfs are definitely felt.

Most viewed and players don’t care about people’s attempts at +21 having anything to do with running +9-15. Top 10% and especially 1% are more important marks than .01% - the supply of .01 depends on the supply of the category below it and so on. The health of the game and the ramp to the highest are related to how this experience pans out
@Kavaren His argument is predicated on you running high keys. At low level these issues aren't that noticeable, and frankly the tanks don't feel all that different.
@@hr329085 high keys is a moving mark. It starts moving at a lower number and progresses as time goes by. No one is doing “high keys” right now by your logic, which the video showcases as well; accordingly it hasn’t been tested by that logic either. Issues show themselves earlier and they continue to grow, and it encompasses most of the player base and by player base I mean people pursuing heroic drops and myth track gear from vault. If it’s there it’s an issue upward and if it’s at the top whatever course it takes dominates the lower. Organized play? Who cares, most of the game is pugs

Prot warr is my fave spec. Sucks we are falling a bit behind again and i dread having to rely on healers. Prob will go bear but ill still play all tanks generally.

This is from a push key perspective. My question is: Will it actually be harder to tank a +10 key in TWW than in S4? I think difficulty there won't be changed at all.
It will be harder, i was playing beta yesterday and key +5 and up, each melee hit from mob takes around 20-25 % of ur total HP. And your healling is reduced like half, without kite it was impossible to make it in time, becouse DH was so squishy without any def ability. Not to mention bosses, if your healer is noob you as tank or DPS die from total overhelming DMG, the only change from SL S4 is that if someone fail mechanic u as tank die also with group.
Lol back in the day with the Tbc it was way harder with every pull needed to sheep or cc mobs. Otherwise it was wipe everytime. You needed to know every mobs there abilities or you could one shotted or a healer mob just kept every mob a live.

Why didn't you mention the INSANE mana economy issue for Lightsmith? If played properly and ONLY using Shining Light(free) WoG's, you go OOM in almost exactly 3 minutes of straight gameplay.
They need to revert the mana cost on wog, at least the procs

Blizz just is in denial that making tanks weaker won't lead to a kite meta.
Tanks are not going to trust healers to top them off. If they do not have the tools to deal with damage themselves, they will try to kite. Blizz seems to think they will just coordinate with healers more. That is just not how humans work in mmos

druid is good in coordinated groups. It feels kind bad in pugs cause no huge ways to group mobs together.

i see i am not the only one having problem with brew aggro ... 5min 52 all health bar turning red meaning loosing aggro. Think they need to buff the threath coef, should not be possible to loose aggro mid fight with add half of their health.

I unsubbed, refunded expansion, and the 6 people I played with did the same. Until Blizzard realized that FUN is why we play... I'm out. I'm not as good as you Dorki, and never would have been (I'm done with WoW), but I was 3300 last season (S3) ONLY PUGGING on prot warrior and super bummed at what this game has become.
No matter what the reasoning, or "BLUE POST BULLSHIT", this tank nerf has effectively ruined pugging. All the goobers saying that this nerf has culled the trash... none of those monkies were 2500... let alone 3300 and running keys at levels that actually mattered. This game is dead for me, and hopefully hundreds of thousands of others quit too... forcing Ion to be removed, and a fresh team on non moron devs to take over.
currently unsure between brew and Blood, really enjoyed blood in DF, but the rework took out what i disliked most in brew which was the button bload

Are you ok getting a just ok tank over a great tank? Cause if community didn't rag on tanks so much when they fail, more people might be less intimated. I know that was me years ago when I first got into tanking. Not saying you are one of those people but just something to think about.
Is not the nerf that make us not play a tank. Is the abuse we get. Specially those trying tank for the first time. Some of this ppl expect tanks even new ones to have a PhD in tanking and must know all dungeons and pulls all the way to the 3 expansion.

Can someone explain why tanks r mad at tanks getting nerfed? I quit dragonflight for academic reasons, i dont really understand the tanking landscape rn but in my experience, i like to feel like theres a chance im gonna die if i dont play my spec well.

I have some nitpicks regarding Dorki's thoughts about Prot Paladin, but overall I agree with this video.
Bear and Blood are the clear winners.
Brew also is winning hard, but Brew started with a disadvantage so it remains slightly behind the top.
Veng is mostly AFK, the community is bored of them, they're fine.
Prot Pal and Prot Warr felt the Tank-Nerfs the hardest, if all or most of the Nerfs were reverted for Pal & Warr I think Tanks would probably be quite Balanced.
Paladin in general is definitely "Clunky" now. All the random Quality of Life Nerfs over the past ~1-2 months have really bludgeoned Paladin-Gameplay & Talent-Design.
I will still be Maining Paladin, but the Class is significantly worse in TWW than it was in Season 3/4 of Dragonflight.
Still Fun, but downgraded Fun.
I loved paladin tanking in s3. It's sad to see how hard they've been hit.
@@Gimpo925 There is one small solace for Prot Pal's though: Being able to store 2 Charges of LotP free-WOGs is HUGE and by itself adds a ton of Agency/Decision-Making to Prot Pal, the only problem is that Prot Pal is so... *brittle* at the moment that it's difficult to actually save any free-WOGs - Much of the time Prot Pal is white-knuckling while just trying to build up the 1st free-WOG.
Before the Nerfs Prot Pal felt GREAT IMO, many Tank-Mains disagreed with me, but I had been reaching the point I could off-Heal as much as the actual Healer in Beta +5's-10's (and that was before the 2nd Charge of free-WOGs).
So if the Pal Nerfs get reverted, or with the better item levels of Season 2+, then Prot Pal will be a force to be reckoned with.
For Season 1 I recommend playing Holy, it's really fun too and Paladin is one of the easiest Classes to swap/learn different Specs on.
