One essential, I have in my calving “bucket”, is jug of corn syrup from the grocery store. For those times, you have a heifer or a cow, that will not except a calve. I always feel sorry for the calf, but pour it right over there back. If you get the cow to even smell that, she will start licking it. When she taste, the sweet treat of the corn syrup, a bond is made.
Good tip M. Webber! Thanks
Everyone: Be sure to do 2 pressure points on each leg to minimize pressure on the leg/hoof as assistance is given. Or for the hand pull assists, use ob web-strap with D hooks on each end.
Stay warm and safe brother from the imperial county California 👍👍 and don't work to hard take it easy
Thank you, I will stay as warm as best I can! You stay warm too, and thanks Francisco.
I have been binge watching your videos from the past year. Got to this video and now I wait for a new one. I decided to go all the way to your beginning and watch every video. I love watching you care for and love all of your animals. Your family does amazing things for those less fortunate. Thanks for all you do. I am a pediatric hospice nurse and these videos bring me peace at the end of a long day.
Great video. It's great to have a company that also acts like a partner to the rancher.
You got that right!
Well calving season is my favorite time to watch.
Would love to help with a birth. My teenage year experience was so rewarding.
Hopefully the -0° weather is over by then.
I always hope the sub-zero it over by calving too!
Hello Mike. Thanks for taking the time to share with all of us the need to be ready when the calves are born. FBN has a great way to be ready for you. Thanks again. Enjoyed the video.
Your welcome Gene. Gotta be ready, and prepared cause its one of those things that it seems to happen all of a sudden when things go sideways! Thanks for watching.

Mike,
Have you thought about getting with your local FFA and share your knowledge. You definitely sound like one of my Ag teachers back in the day.
I'm so looking forward to calving and hope all goes well!
Me too Monica, I hope it all goes well too.
Hi Mike and family. A solution to keeping the big box of gloves free from dust is putting it in a zip lock bag or making up a few individuals to be able to grab quick. 😉
Thanks for sharing another video of calving. everyone enjoy and have a bless day❤❤
You are so welcome Wykeisha, have a good weekend.
Really looking forward to calving.
I am also. Besides the new calves it means spring isnt to far off!
Have you looked at optigel that Cole and Brian Sonne use on their calves?
Informative as well as interesting! Wishing we had You Tube when I was raising Cattle! Keep warm! Expecting snowstorm in Columbus, Ohio ....Joni❤
Glad ya like it Joni. LOL I wish UA-cam was around back in the day also!
Hello from Nebraska! We love your videos!!
My favorite time of the year can't wait for first calf of the year Golden
Mike,
Have you ever thought about getting with your local or state FFA and sharing your knowledge. You sound like my AG teacher back in the day.
Hope you are doing ok with the weather. Better to be prepared than to have to go looking when you need something.
Doing OK with the weather. I do admit Im ready for some warmer weather! I agree with ya being prepared is the best.
You might consider adding cayenne tincture…if it looks like you’ve lost a calf put the tincture under the tongue and you’d be surprised how they come back..for any animal really
Hi Mike
Can’t wait for the babies to start coming in lol ❤
We write the calf birth date on the back. Calf gets the same number as the cow but with a different year letter. 👍
Great Vlog... You are always prepared for calving...
Hugs & Blessings Always 🙏❤️💙💖💖💙🐕...💖🤗✝️
Time is flying soon baby calves will be here!Is Jeff coming back soon?
Your right they will be hitting the ground in the not to distant future! I never know when Jeff is coming back. He usually lets me know the day before. LOL
Great video, Mike! This video is so informative. I'm going to watch it again because so much info. I can't wait till calving season. Have a great weekend!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching Lisa.
Hi Mike I hope you , Erin and the kiddos are staying safe and warm I know this weather has been crazy you guys getting wind chill factors and us in upstate NY are getting hit with one snow storm after another dumping feet upon feet of snow , I'm thankful to be one of your subscribers I enjoy your videos thank you for being one of my UA-cam familys
Thank you Wendy.
Different situations can come up in cows having calves. Your kit you showed should help with most of them. Thanks for the video Take Care. Out
Good advice, can never be too prepared for calving season. Thanks for the video, have a great day!
Very informative and helpful thanks yall !!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
It's always better to be prepared then sorry.
That is for sure Tammy.
Thank you for sharing!!
I TOTALLY ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO MIKE 😊
Glad ya liked it Randy, and thanks for watching.
Remembered somethings you mentioned, really liked this video😊
Glad you liked it!!
Hi Mike
Hello from st cloud Minnesota
Hello there from Gillette Wyoming!
In your tool box for calving do you use Calf Claim crystals . I ask because you have such extreme weather and my thinking would help the mother cow and her baby;recoginition, response time of getting up faster and nursing. Thank you for sharing, stay safe and warm
Just watching this video and I noticed a license tag from Delaware that is where I am from and I know that this has nothing to do with the video but I thought it was cool!
Mike, will FBN send you a calving bucket from now on?
Hey Mike, been watching your channel for ages. You have done a series on getting into ranching, but you know what would be a really useful addendum? Business plan writing. I know this probably isn't exactly your wheel well, but, any insight you can provide on this would be most appreciated!
What is the chosen color of the ear tags this year??!!
Your absolutely right Ronald. So far in my experience the FBN kit has contained most of what Ive needed. Except the big calf puller, which is invaluable when you on occasion need it. Thanks for watching.
Every time I see you trying to save any mother and/or her baby, I can only think of you as a Hero. You have so much care and concern for all animals, it goes beyond the financial aspect piece of what you do. The one thing I cringe at is those chains that get wrapped around a calves ankles when pulling it out of the mother. They can't be heavily plastic coated? I wish that part of it would change. Best wishes for a very successful calving season with zero losses, and thanks for sharing!
Thank you JanesDough. The make up of the chains wouldn't matter really.
Two thoughts… plastic could be ‘slippery’ so not as secure. Second - cleaning… metal can be sanitized… plastic would limit that and would also shorten the ‘life’ of the chains
👍
Since you sell your own meat off the ranch. Have you ever thought about backing your calving Up a couple months for nicer whether.
No, I have not. Gonna keep things the way I have 'em now. Calving does not have an effect on when they hit the feed lot. Thanks for watching.
So when are going to pick up the five hour energy? ;)
LOL Im sure there is some here somewhere.
You need to get you a heat vest
Ive seen 'em, and have wondered how they work etc. Maybe someday?
