Loved the idea of a “broken” Batman. One who lost his way as alluded to by Alfred a few times. We’re led to believe that he didn’t always kill, and wasn’t always such a loose cannon, but 20 years of broken promises, losses, and betrayals made him into the Batman we saw in BvS.
I agree it was the material that let Ben down, but the biggest issue is he didn’t get a solo movie before BvS. Imagine seeing a solo film where Robin is alive and is Batman’s last thread to his moral codes. We see Robin killed by the Joker in the climax and Batman looses it. Then in the post credits scene we see the opening of BvS with Bruce running through the Metropolis wreckage. That would have set the audience up for a better understanding of where this Batman is at come BvS , and would give characters like Gordon more screen time.

I'd have the murder of Robin be like the cold open of bens solo batman movie I'd have it take place after man of steel but before BVS have deathstroke as the villain etc but I'd have it be more a character study of a broken batman then the post credit I'd have him watching footage of Superman

    • @dcworld4349

@@ryankeefe2102 Some people would have been mad, but Robin getting killed by Deathstroke would have set the tone and also made his death and Bruce's head space make a bit more sense. Because why would this Batman not have killed the Joker after he killed Dick Grayson, when he has zero problems with killing. In BvS he stops himself from killing Superman with the intention being that he was realizing that he was becoming just like Joe Chill by breaking his no kill rule. Yet minutes afterwards he kills at least half of the people in that warehouse.
It's not that I can't accept that you have a Batman who doesn't have the no kill rule, The Batman is actually the first live-action version in modern times that establishes that he never goes that far. The problem however is, it makes no sense why he would let the Joker live in this universe. Or why was it okay to kill a bunch of Lex's thugs, but not Lex himself? I know Snyder's argument is he won't go out of his way to kill people, it's more that he accepts that collateral damage during a fight including death is part of the job, a sort of cop or solider mentality to being in a combat scenario. Yet he's got a guy nailed to a wall at the end of the fight and it's implied he kills him for stabbing him. Then instead of shooting KBG's hands like what happens in the dark knight returns, he shoots the tank and blows up the room.
And I am saying all this as a huge Batfleck fan who while I really do love The Batman, the biggest disappointment is that we are never going to get the Batman VS Deathstroke movie. When written at his best, he's the closest we have gotten to Bat-god, the man who you understand why even though he's not the leader of the Justice League, everyone looks for him to strategize in battle. Often to find out he has given himself one of the hardest jobs in secret. Still holding out hope that one day DC decides to let them do it as an animated movie, maybe even finish out the original plans for the Justice League. The normal budget for the movies they are making now is about 5 million from what I've heard, give it 10 million and there are enough Snyderverse fans to make a small profit from doing it.

@@DanielTorres-pw8il Are you seriously suggesting that people need an origin movie for Batman and Superman? Even people who haven't seen the movies, shows or even read the comics knows the basic origin.
People barley want origin movies for characters that they know nothing about because the formula became too repetitive. So they have started to find clever ways of starting their stories in the second act of their life. With some origin sprinkles to get you caught up.
The DCU is going to have to eat crow no matter what for it's first phase in terms of box office. It won't be until they show that they can release quality movies and shows in a row for the first part of the Gods and Monsters act that they will actually start to hit the respectable 700-800 million dollar range maybe by the end of it. Brave and Bold might hit 700 dollars but that is just because it's Batman.
And I say this as a hardcore DC fanboy who have enjoyed a lot of what DC has done in the last 10 years. But recognize that they fumbled the ball in a way I didn't think could be possible considering all they had to do was slam dunk inside a hoop that was the same height as a toddler.

Snyder gave him a very shallow portrayal. I usually don't like referring to other videos, but The Closer Look gave by far the most comprehensive break down on what was wrong with Snyder's Batman: he doesn't exude enough of Batman's best characteristics to justify the character as Batman, appearance not withstanding. His compassion and intellect (like holy shit how do you fuck this up) just didn't receive enough justice, even though they're such integral parts ti his character. Then of course, Snyder's complete disregard for his moral code. Look, you can make your own version of grimdark edgelord Batman and have it work, but you need a damn good fucking reason beyond "muh realism muh edgy tone". Frank Miller's Batman stories worked because he handled this aspect of the Bat with the gravitas and respect it deserved: if you're going to make Batman kill someone, make it fucking matter. Don't just say "dude he went through sone shit bro" and have him mow down droves of petty criminals just to look cool, you need show the audience the justification for getting him to that point. Literally one of the most important rules to good fiction is "show, don't tell".

Ben's bat suit is basically the suit from the Dark Knight Returns comic by Frank Miller which is the reason why this version of Bats is so bulky, has smaller ears and a big bat symbol, hell he even does one of the iconic poses from said comic near the end of BvS when he's avoiding Doomsday's heat vision.

For me he was the best Live Action Batman ever.
What people forget is this is a Batman who has been the Dark Knight for 20 years and having gone through a lot of trauma and issues.
He feels brutal like the Arkham Batman and sometimes even pulls off the poses and moves that Batman does in the comics and the Arkham Games.
He has the best Batman Suit and was jacked. His combat ability is the best we’ve seen. He looks and feels like a Batman that is a master hand to hand to combatant. But he’s also flexible and moves like a superhuman, which helps to paint the idea of Batman being a supernatural creature that criminals fear.
Yes he killed, but he’s not praised in universe for that. Which is exactly why he was treated as a murderous vigilante. But when he met Superman, he was inspired and became a better Batman (represented by how we see him working with the GCPD).
He was unfortunately too old for a Batman starting the Justice League and starting a DC universe. But he was a brilliant adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.
He wasn’t perfect, but he is the best Live Action representation of the Batman of the comics.

What i do love about Affleck's version of Bruce Wayne it can loosly tie in to old man Bruce in Batman Beyond where he becomes a bit more of a bitter broken man who for the most part is all alone in his senior days as he pretty much pushed everyone he cared about away for the "good". It's a rather tragic character

I agree. While I, and everyone else, knows that the gun being referred to is something like a glock, Batman does use guns.... like all the time. Just not typical handheld guns like a machine gun or pistol. Those types of guns are the ones that Batman exclusively does not use. He uses pretty much every other type as he sees fit. Typically in the form of the Grappling Gun

  • @chriswilliams8159
    @chriswilliams8159 Рік тому +14

Ben Affleck's portrayal of the character, I think, was by far the most peculiar version we got to see on screen, especially the one in BVS. His version does a great job in depicting how he has become morally corrupt after being able to make no difference whatsoever even after fighting crime for the past 20 years and has witnessed how everyone eventually becomes corrupt. The life of Batman has become nothing more than a mission that needs to be completed and he has allowed it to consume him almost entirely, a true hollow shell. More than using the cape and cowl to fight for justice, he uses it to blow off some steam because he's gotten addicted to beating the crap out of criminals, something that he truly seems to enjoy. He has hit rock bottom, hence the disregard for the life of thugs he fights. Poor character writing and messy script didn't do justice to the best Batman that never was.

I think one of the biggest problems i have with this batman is not Ben Affleck but the fact that DC was too worried about playing catch up to the MCU. So instead of taking their time making at least one stand alone batman movie with ben. Instead they jump ahead to where they did. Not saying make an origin movie but there's so much in the middle before bvs they coudve done that could've connected us to bens version more. Yeah we see he lost robin but we never actually saw it on screen. These things matter in making a great batman. They skipped so much context that would make us feel more to bens batman. My top two batmans are Bale and Keaton.

The problem with him is that people were expecting the Batman we've been getting for the last 20 years to be his Batman. I took him as what Zack Snyder gave us a Batman who is based on the Dark Knight Returns version, a Batman who's been through a lot, who's getting old and an alcoholic. He kills because he believes that the criminals he's putting down are not only getting back up but also the good guys he trusted also became bad or was killed during his time. He even has the same story-arc as the Dark Knight Returns where he becomes hopeful again at the end and stops killing to become better. The 2nd biggest problem is the plot of BVS I'm fine that he was introduced in that movie and it also makes a lot of sense that he is mad at Superman for all the damages he did to Metropolis that killed a lot of people but I think that story would only work if Batman didn't kill. That's why people made fun of the Martha scene, If that scene was the first time Batman taking a life and him seeing a flashback of his parents dying and a silhouette of a man holding a gun and it zooms in to it's face only to be him. That would be amazing but no he's a killer and not only is he a killer Superman is also a killer so there's this 2 hypocrites who just wants to kill one another because they're killing people lol.
