Thanks for the help! I bought the ZEP stuff because it was cheaper... well learned my lesson! lol I'll be picking up some simple green HD tonight.
Zep makes the correct products for aluminum, and yes, directions , we have all missed that!
This guy is living the dream I want. Gets to work on dirt bikes all day and making money plus his UA-cam is going to blow up sooner or later. Sick channel
I appreciate it!
Mineral spirits worked the best for me..its a little pricey but it last a long time in a parts washer. And it never damaged.anything
No worries Matt. Running vaporblasting bussiness and seen a lot of aluminium parts after it got wasted by chemicals. Nothing hydroblasting can’t fix. We’ve all been there, I destroyed my anodized wheel on my supermoto :)
Before I knew about this channel I had a Dunlop tire but then I saw The video about the RM 125 so then I bought a kenda tire and it is so awesome
I found out that lye (Sodium Hydroxide) eats aluminum when I tried cleaning a commercial pizza pan with it. My plan was to soak it, and when I checked on it a short time later, the entire container was full of foam.
Glad I jus got that HD simple green 😂
This is really useful
Definitely a great tip, was about to buy that stuff to clean up some parts. That was close 🤣🤣
Looking out for the community, what a guy. Learning the lessons for us!
That’s helpful!!
You'll probably think I'm crazy but an OLD school mechanic told me years ago to ditch degreaser and carb cleaner for my parts washer and to use Pine-sol. I use it in my parts washer and my ultrasonic cleaner. works AMAZING. Especially on old carbs with gunked up ethanol. Plus keeps the garage smelling clean. Oh and I see the Napa aluminum brightener in the back ground hope you liked it.
Got the last one at NAPA the other day! It works great! And hmmm Pinesol... Might have to give it a shot!
Do you mix it with water or full strength?
Thanks for the tip
Going to buy a parts washer today
@@larryarnold1282 I mix 3:1 water to simple green
Nick what ratio do you use the pine saw
@@larryarnold1282I mix about 50/50 in the ultrasonic cleaner, for the parts washer you can obviously use way less than that about 2 cups per gallon. I do not really measure I just put a big splash. You can scoop up the big bottle of pine-sol at Wal-mart for $4.98 so it is very affordable
Well... I watched this video too late.. I now have black aluminum dirt-bike parts.... where you able to restore their color with any particular solution? Any tips for your experimenting with mixtures in the ultrasonic cleaner?
That literally happen to me just now I used it to clean my carburetor 😢
What about purple power?
Yo matt, I have a 1997 kx250, theres a guy selling black polisport restyle kit on ebay for 100 bucks, it has 1997 plastics but the front fender and number plate are off of a 2007, when polisport makes there restyle kits do they make it so where the bolt pattern fits or can i just buy the front fender and numberplate off of a 2007 kx250
I know zep makes some mellower stuff it would be cool to see if it compares to the purple simple green
zep makes products far superior to simple green. none of yall fools are using the right shit to clean these materials.
@@DieselRamcharger Which zep cleaner do you use on this stuff?
Unrelated topic put you know the Honda cr125r is there a difference between that and the normal 125?
The cr125 and cr125r are the same. The crf125 is different
What happens if it gets on anodizing?
It strips it. I bought a cruddy 1993 kx125 to restore that was set up in a barn and didn't read the label and the blue fork tubes looked like acid washed jeans. Will never use this stuff on anything again. On the plus side I learned how to separate old style fork tubes to take for reanodizing.
How can I find your bikes on fb marketplace I want to buy your next remodel hopefully a yz125
Local NE Ohio marketplace!
Zep is a company not a chemical. Zep ABSOLUTELY makes the right shit for cleaning aluminum, in ANY kind of machine. Be it vat, ultrasonic, recirc spray. you name it. Every transmission and engine rebuilder on the planet would agree.
Purple power Dosent do that
been using purple power for years and never had an issue. just don’t get it on anything anodized or with grease in it. i’ve soaked parts in it too and never had it turn black. just my experience
I honestly just run diesel fuel in my parts washer. Just wear a vapor mask when you're working over it open. You just filter it and put it back in.
I've heard that works great!
What do you think about purple power?
The more you know ay 👍
ALL consumer cleaning chemicals are a joke compared to industrial products. I detailed cars for a few years and the Ducan guy sold an aluminum safe degreaser that literally cut through a 1/4” of baked on engine grease in 10-15 seconds. I’ve tried 20+ consumer degreasers and not 1 has been 1/4 as good.
The stuff looked and smelled exactly like grape juice.
Like hold a glass of it right to your nose and you couldn’t tell it wasn’t grape juice.
Sodium hydroxide=soda
That's why it deteriorates aluminium
First I love you
I was so mad when I found this out the hard way, it's seriously like a dark gray almost black sheen, it just ruins stuff.

ROFL!! "Who reads labels?" And you expect me to take advice from you? You learn by messing stuff up instead of reading the freaking label or the "service manual" somebody wrote for a reason. Seriously, when "influencers" replace simple common sense and RTFM there is little hope for the human race. So people cheer this guy on for messing up and sounding cool wearing his product placement t-shirt.
Thanks for the support Jess!
I heard simple green pits aluminum.
