Gunk vs Purple Power vs Super Clean vs Simple Green | What is the Best Cleaner and Degreaser
Вставка

- A perfect opportunity to test today's latest cleaners on a 44 year old engine bay. This vehicle needs extensive metal work. Before metal is cut and removed from the engine bay, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to test these cleaners. This is my unbiased opinion upon using these cleaners. I paid for them with my own money. Nothing here was given to me or sponsored in any way. Cheers.

I use Kerosene and have for years, works amazing!
Confirmed what I was guessing for my car. Thanks for taking time to show us on video. Thumbs up!
This is the exact comparison I wanted to see. Great job!
Purple Power is the only product I have ever bought that actually did what it says it would do. I buy it by the gallon and just fill squirt bottles.
Awesome stuff indeed!
Try buying Super Clean
Better not apply purple power on glass! Simple green Crystal and Max forever
Great review, thank you! I've found that SuperClean diluted 4 or 5 to 1 sometimes works better that the concentrate depending on the surface and type of grime you're cleaning, which also makes it a fantastic value. Maybe worth testing at some point?
That's interesting. Thanks for the feedback!
I use the heck out of Purple Power, but be forewarned, it WILL dull paint if left on for more than 30 seconds! Fantastic cleaner and degreaser though. If I use it on shiny paint I pressure wash it with water first and then leave the Purple Power on for no more than 30 seconds and flush with water.
When i used to service copiers we would use Castrol super clean to remove cigarette tar and the yellowing in the covers it worked pretty well. Purple power and castrol Super clean are pretty much the same thing. HOWEVER both products need to be rinsed and they both penetrate and dissolve skin so its best to wear gloves when using them.
Just did my valve covers and intake. Not sure what was stuck to the metal but it was like baked on oil or something. I'm the 2nd owner so who knows what kind of oil was being used. Gunk worked about as well as dish soap. Both purple power and superclean cut right thru it! I'd say in this application, the superclean was slightly better. But that was not a very scientific test. Both worked. Also noticed they will etch aluminum but that wasn't too important since I was painting it anyhow.
Very cool! Thanks for the heads up.
Purple Power for petroleum oils and Simple Green for vegetable oils. Simple green is arguably less dangerous for minor repeated skin contact should it occur in real world use.
Ain't no grease or oil in that engine bay. Just dust.
ikr lol! And this guy never uses a brush!
I love Z cars!! Just found your channel going to binge for a while.
Had you used the simple green product undiluted like you did with the other products, you would have had results comparable to Super Clean or better . Simple Green drgreaser has a higher alkalinity level and other surfactants that break down grease and grime better than most other degreasers. I'm a detailer and had reasons to research this topic a few years ago. I compared several brands and found simple green drgreaser to be the strongest albeit the most expensive product ounce for ounce.
Thank you for your research
Since SG was changed in 2013, it hasn’t been the same and is not nearly as caustic as Super Clean.
The only product that I’ve seen beat Super Clean is oven cleaner, that includes the Zeps, Totally Awesome, Greased Lightning, Purple Power, etc. I saw Super Clean get 5 yr old oil stain out of concrete, the other cleaners couldn’t touch it. It’s also the reason it’ll never go near my car, it can etch Aluminum at 5-1 dilution.
@@suplexcities SG has many different cleaners. This here in the video isnt the regular SG.
*Looks at Purple Power*
I want some of that purple stuff.
Mossy500A worse product do not use purple power on painted or aluminum Servies with leave cloudy
@@scubagto420 I used purple power on my aluminum rims a year ago. Those fuckers still shine like diamonds.
@@scubagto420 I love that stuff, I had the same result on mine where it left white and stained but that's my fault. I did with the engine still hot, I live in Arizona and did it mid day in summer and I didn't dilute it either.
I want the sunny d!
I used to use Kerosene or even gasoline with a stiff brush, to soften the tar undercoat. I know its not environmentally safe though. Ive had good luck using Gunk liquid spray..(not the foam)...letting it sit, then hitting it with a 1400 lb, vibrating spray washer. That works pretty good. Way back, when I was a teen I worked as a mechanic on a golf course. I used a steam Jenny as it was called. It ran on Kerosene and produced very high pressure steam ! That would take anything off ! I used to wear rain pants and a rain coat, because the grease and oil would cover me from head to foot...hahaha. Peace. matt.
Very cool. Thanks for the info!
I worked at a paving company and diesel/kerosene is what is used to clean asphalt but the EPA requires a citrus cleaner but does not work very well. I use diesel to wash engine parts because it dissolves grease and can be rinsed with water; you can also follow up with one of these detergent products if you need to paint or to remove any oily residue. (I figured this out from work experience)
how did you know i needed this for nissan gunk
Great video and I subscribed 🐱
Thanks for subbing!
Do you think if I soak my chevy small block cast iron heads in purple power or some other degreaser, take it to the car wash and power wash spray it down, then wd-40 to prevent corrosion? Good process? Or just hit it with brake cleaner and be done with it? I'm trying to be eco friendly here, I don't want to contaminate my garden.
J Howard it’s what I do scrub it good and power wash it. I clean all my engine this way.
Tar cover is actually put in as rust protection
Oven cleaner will superceed all of those + take off the more of the "tar" , even the undercoating
Are these degreasers safe to use on asphalt?
Yup
I used gunk to remove brake dust and hah that was a joke
Then I used purple power and was amazed
Awesome!
Hi. Can I use purple power on powder coated rims without messing up the powder coating? I get grease on my back tire from the chain, so I use pretty strong stuff to remove all of that, but I'm getting my rims coated and I'm afraid to use string chemicals so I don't ruin the coating. Thank you!
Usually powder coating is stronger than paint so try a small coat
Once you fully clean the wheels off use that new ceramic coat everyone is talking about. We use F11 and prior we always had issues keeping our powder coated wheels clean on our motorcycles even with waxing them with every wash. Now the grease simply just wipes off with hardly any work compared to before
Where can I get so called "wutter?" ;)
ChrisFix has Soapy Wooder.
New Jersey
Simple Green also has a Motorsports Cleaner & Degreaser. Maybe this would have worked better. Also you could have used it undiluted.
Amazing how the large bottle magically repaired itself for your final words 😎
Purple power ftw
eh leaves oil behind, slippery, hard to clean off and make sure paint doesn't get eaten or left bare later, super clean diluted yourself from bulk is a little better anyway, sure they make more off the smaller spray bottles
Purple power is strong but leaves white corrosion on aluminum and messes up paint and plastic engine bay parts. Regular green simple green is the best! The heavy duty simple green is not that great at all.
Where do I get "wooter" to rinse it off with?
Lol..indeed
Purple power is also biodegradable.
Buy dc-99 degreaser best stuff hands down
I've used simple green on just about everything: oil/fluid spills on concrete, engine bay cleaning, walls & flooring, bathtubs, ovens, and so forth with no issues...good stuff. Just dont let it sit for more than 10 mins on certain surfaces, and rinse throughly. Oh and never use it on biological matter, such as: urine, shit, vomit, etc..it produces quite the stench lol
Thanks for the tip.. I usually let it soak.
I tried Simple Green full strength to clean my engine bay once. Notice I said "once". It took the paint off. Rough stuff, full strength.
Bummer. Thanks for the heads up!
The Navy tried out using simple green to wash aircraft. Not good. It striped the paint off an F-14 Tomcat. Needless to say works good. To good. This happened back around 1999-2000.
well I must have like a bionic grease on my engine bay cause I soaked everything in the stuff and if anything it didn't seem tough enough. wouldn't get grease off rubber hoses. but it hadn't been cleaned it 25 years so.....
Purple blaster is the best and why the hell do you keep on spraying when there is enough liquid sprayed inn5 pulls.
If it is available anymore, Pro-440 is the best and also most caustic degreaser I have ever used.

I used some stuff called EZGone water based degreaser. If there is some real stuck on grease then I'll mix in some aluminum brightener. I got both from a truck supply shop. The degreaser is concentrated and has a small amount of acid in it. I know aluminum brightener also has acid in it not of which acid.
This looks like an s30 engine bay, being a '73 it should a a 240z
PURPLE POWER IS THE BEST!!
If you have to use your hands the cleaner is not good purple power spray on the power off
ChrisFIX??
👍👍👍👍👍
You gotta try my degreaser
Homemade?
Simple green is a home cleaner. Not a manly defreaser
SG has many different products and he didnt used the "home cleaner"
I clean engines with Super Clean diluted 10 parts water to 1 part Super Clean
Gunk is pretty much Diesel fuel in a can.
No grease on that engine bay. Test no good.
Used purple power to strip the ink off of dollar bills and print 100 bill design on them then buy sandwiches from subway and keep the change.
Just joking.
Rip soap
Well said.
-1 for simple green bottle construction lol
Purple Power Sucks...Soap and water is the same. I bought it this weekend and wasted 4.00
Looks like a z car
Oh yes..'73 240z
@@CarsNToys sweet !.....
OVEN CLEANER
chainsaw
Allate
All these consumer products are garbage. We used to get 55gal drums of degreaser and a single spray would melt away the worst grease and grime. I’m literally having PTSD from not having access to that degreaser anymore. My expectations are too high now, and the consumer products are weak
Oven cleaner. Any time your cleaning heavy dirt and grime, easy off oven cleaner. Won't hurt paint or plastic and rubber products.
Super clean is a horrible cancer causing product. It will eat through good looking older paint and clear coat straight to the body metal sealer layer.
jd123 456 I agree... wrapped an entire longblock in a heavy duty trash back and coated the whole thing with oven cleaner and sealed it off... a couple more rounds of that and the grease and oils didn’t stand a chance.
Go purple power!
Good stuff!
Wurst wreview wever
worst speller ever lol worst* review*ever*
FAIL!!!!
Simple green is best
If it is available anymore, Pro-440 is the best and also most caustic degreaser I have ever used.
This is why I watched the video, I knew that the video he wasn’t gonna get anything done with that garbage. But I can’t find it it pulls up red ripper when I google it
I wish I could find Pro 440, I remember decreasing a machine shop ceiling with that and having to wear a respirator.
