    My comment lands some 8 years after the posting but better late than never. I am utterly amazed and blown away, having since 1975 seen various Yes line-ups play this. How these youngsters can learn this and deliver it to such perfection is unbelievable. I was in local bands for many years as a guitarist (now retired) but that guitarist here is stunning - he plays the whole song with such ease. Credit to every other performer too. I watched right to the end and was only disappointed that they didn't get a standing ovation instead of being rushed off the stage by the next band. Once again, utterly brilliant.

      @George Robartes I'm still pissed at Rick lol. I covered the Six Wives excerpts twice at school shows while in high school in the late 70s, and my band performed Close to the Edge in 79. So needless to say, I was a major Rick fan. Then in 84, Rick did a gig in Windsor, Ontario the same year my band won the WRIF Detroit battle of the bands. The whole band went to see Rick at this venue with an audience of only 400 people. All the staffers promised we'd have a chance to meet Rick after the show, but he boogied out of there the instant he left the stage. Arrgh!
      The closest thing I got to revenge was when Keith Emerson's engineer opined that I was a better keyboard player than Rick. I'm not, but it sure felt good to hear lol.

    Again, So Tired of people on this site dissing this young kids vocals. I'm a vocalist and musician myself. My question to those I speak about is this?? Where has this young man ever go flat on his vocals??? Not only that, do you people realize how young he is??? To do such a complex piece of musical art vocally At His Age gains my utmost respect!! You need to stop it cause you want to be critical when you don't know what you're talking about. Let me ask you all a question. Where were you musically at that age???

    • @kennundrum
      @kennundrum 5 років тому +9

      Mike Brennan, I agree with you. The lead vocalist has been a little bit unfairly criticized - though I will say that Jon Anderson and Chris Squire are a vocally very hard act to follow (especially on this song). Having said that, this young man, along with all those kids, did a very very admirable job of recreating a moment in time and music that was truly life changing - for me and many other musicians. Bravo!!

    • @mikedrennan8303

      Mitch Aunger You know what?? I turned my kids onto great music. Even got my 2nd born son an acoustic guitar but he ignored it. I gave him his space yet continued to expose him to music. Had to let my children have their own path. Now, that same child is a multi instrumentalist in a band called Sherry Drive. They released an album called Fly where he plays keys and does the scream parts vocally. They also do a cover of a song called Starboy and do it better (in my opinion) than the original. He the one playing bass with the ball cap on backward doing the background vocals. It didn't matter to me what path or interest he chose but surprised the hell out of me and first chose the military, then chose music.

    • @mikedrennan8303
      @mikedrennan8303 6 років тому +2

      To add to it, each child is gifted in their own way. Never expected this child to choose music but it happened. I had to allow him his space to choose his own destiny. If he chose something different, as long as it was productive, I would have supported him anyways.

    Amazing cover....This was my fave band back in the 70's and I still listen to them.
    The drummer really showed his passion, he was brilliant. The lead guitarist....he played some incredibly difficult chords, Impressive.
    The kid singing the Anderson part was too harsh in his voice, I'd have like d to have heard what the girls had to offer .
    The organist was rather talented . And the bassist was so so good.

    Fantastic! Kids can like music like this when they are offered more than just hip-hop, rap, new country, and pop chick music. The young lad singing will develop into a good singer and he does pretty good since he probably just reached puberty. I like the stage dancing and head banging moves from the girls and young man. There is hope!

    I remember learning these songs when they came out, wore out a few records with the needle. The whole group rocks. The drummer and the bass player are groovin too.

    Let's not just play one of the most masterful bands in history, let's pick the most chaotic fucking songs they've ever done... This sounds incredible, but even if it hadn't, I'd have given them props for the mere attempt.

    Holy cow! It is so awesome to see young folks carrying on what Yes started 40+ years ago! These "kids" are all very fine musicians, and as anyone who grew up loving this album will tell you, this music is very layered and complex, and difficult enough to learn much less play. I can close my eyes and almost hear Steve and Chris and Rick and Alan playing this as young people. Well done, all of you!

    Imagine them doing this in a few years.
    Very professional sounding for their age.
    The teacher's also deserve credit.

    These students present a stellar performance of Close to the Edge. I'm blown away. It brings tears to my eyes because it reminds me of working with friends on a high school performance of an all student written and directed rock opera in 1976. My friends in the band introduced me at that time to Yes, and yeah, the keyboardist wore a long cape during performances.☺️
    You kids are blessed with incredible talent. Much respect for you all.
    Rock on!
