Never tried fixing a snowblower before, but when my auger belt went, this video is just what I needed (and a new belt) to fix it. Many thanks!
Great video. Just changed my cable. Couldn’t have done it without your help. Thanks
Thanks from Canada! Gives great satisfaction to do this kind of stuff oneself. Now I need to replace my Auger Bearing...
Hardest part of an auger bearing is getting the pulley off and holding the bolts in place, I use a rubber band on the bolts and sit on a long pry bar while I hit the shaft with a punch to get the pulley off
Thanks. You made this easy for me. 10 minutes and done.
Exactly what I needed, thanks! (I'm also from MAINE!)
Is the big bolt left hand threaded?
Perfect i was trying to slip it over the upper pully thank you
i have the same blower thanks for the info big help , can't Waite for the auger bearing video ,very helpful THANKS
This is perfect. Could not find a better how-to for my 38624. Thank you!
No problem please subscribe and let me know of any videos you might want or need to see
@@Coakleyfixedit207 would love to see that auger bearing replacement.
Ok next one I do ill do a video for everyone on how I do them.
@@Coakleyfixedit207 just finished this job. In a 5°F garage. Pulling that bracket made the belt part easy. And like you said, the bracket was a pain to put back in.
Wondering if it would be worthwhile to pre drill 2 holes through the side panel & bracket. Use a couple center punches to help pry/guide the brack back into place. Then screw the bolts back in place.
@@hjartland I found the bracket was easy with the spring let go. It happened accidentally, but it I could see it being a pain with it still attached.
Thank you for the video. Well done. :)
Thank you for this video. I have a 2015 Toro 38802 and have the belts on hand for when they will be needed. Nice to see how an expert handles this work.
Suggestion: get a pointer, like a long screwdriver or a thin dowel painted white, and point at the different components before you start the work. Explain what you will be doing before each step, while the camera is not moving. Have the lighting aimed to help us amateurs see the work area. That might mean showing an area or part and then moving the light out of your way so the work can be done.
Most viewers won't do ten belt changes in a lifetime, let alone every week! A lot of viewers will need your instructions because their snowblower stopped working right in the middle of cleaning their driveway, or even mid-storm. They'll run or drag the snowblower to their garage and find your instructional video on UA-cam.
Your explanations are great. They might be better for unhandy homeowners (like me) if you add some static camera shots showing us what we will need to do.
I appreciate your feedback, in time my videos quality will be better trying to figures out which ways are best so viewers can see what's happening, also I'm on the clock when I'm doing these so I can't spend a lot of time setting everything up, but please subscribe and the quality will get better as I get better equipment and get better at using my computer. Thanks again for the feedback
Also please if there is anything you'd like to see a video on let me know I work on a wide variety of equipment
Thanks, it went well until I cracked the sheave half - I didn't listen to your warning and have it on order now. Thanks for your great guide, otherwise very easy with your help.
No problem, it happens if it makes you feel better I've done this hundreds of times and still crack them every once in awhile
Thanks for your time to make this video. One thing, good info, but I’m still dizzy from the camera moving around with every head movement. Try a tri-pod for camera.
Thank you for the great information and tutorial.
I stuck with the video to the end but the camera weaving around was driving me nuts!
I'm trying to remove pulley to change belt ,and it will not budge like how slide it off so easily, any help please 🙏
You said you'd make a separate video for doing this on a Toro powershift snowblower. I don't see it on your site anywhere. I guess i'll be winging it tomorrow and learning as i go. I think the hardest part of it all will be removing the pully bolt. Hopefully it's not so rusted on that i can't get it off. 🤞 I don't want to snap the head off of it,.. or worse. I've been spraying it with penetrating oil and letting it soak in. If i fail it'll be heading off to the dealers and they can change the belts.
I have toro power max 6000 any idea the part #’s for drive belt and auger belt by chance please?
If you can get me the model number off the tag I could tell you
Thanks for video it will help a lot!
Will I need to make a special wrench like yours?
No you shouldn't need to I just do alot of these every season so it was worth it to me to make the tool
If the drive belt were slipping or broken once you press the drive handle will in wheel lock? The problem I have is that if I press the drive handle the wheel don't move forward nor reverse.
Could be the belt, cable could be broke or too loose, also these are friction drive so if the plate gets wet it won't move
Thank you for making this video. Averagely, how long does these belts usually last before they need to be replaced?
They can last 10 years depending how the consistency of the snow or ice sucked through it, also gravel driveways can be hell on them
this throws your snow further right mine in heavy snow it blows then just spits it out close to blower cant handle heavy snow at all will this fix my problem you think?
Yes unless your auger bearing is bad, reach in and see if the shaft in the back of the bucket mover up and down it shouldn't
Thank Ryan. Did you ever end up making a video of the auger bearing replacement? I just had mine go today
I did not, but I have one I need to replace monday so I can make that happen I've been needing motivation to get videos posted again
@@Coakleyfixedit207
Awesome thanks Ryan!!
Where are you in Maine? You said you do 10 of these a week? How much do you guys charge (if you are a business)? I need my auger belt replaced on my powermax 724 oe
Bangor area
Hi Ryan, Thanks for the video - good help for orientation about how to service these. In this video you mentioned doing one on the auger shaft bearing - did that ever happen? I need to replace a seal on the auger gearbox and could use some guidance......Thanks Paul Trezza
The video has been filmed but the voice over hasn't been done yet, I had to make a special tool to pull those gearbox seals without splitting the gearbox they are a pain to get out, for someone without the tool splitting the gearbox is the easiest way to remove them, though it takes alot longer. Thank you for reminding me though I'll get that voice over done asap
i know I'm kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good site to stream newly released movies online?
@Westley Archer Try FlixZone. Just search on google for it :)
@Lincoln Zaid Yup, I've been watching on Flixzone for years myself =)
@Lincoln Zaid thank you, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I really appreciate it !
Thanks for this video! Question for you….I have a PowerMax 824OE, plastic discharge chute. Every year I have to replace the discharge chute because one of the eyelets holding the deflector pin breaks. I have gotten lucky once that Toro sent me a replacement(supposed to be guaranteed for life), but have had to purchase 2 or 3 on my own(since I don’t live anywhere near an authorized service center). My question is…have you seen this, or am I a one-off? I’ve noticed that the newer models all have metal discharge chute parts so I can only assume that they recognized how stupid it was to use plastic and changed. Just curious. Thanks a bunch.
Not common at all that's a weird one, I'd say something is causing the issue
@@Coakleyfixedit207 thanks much for the response. It’s definitely frustrating.
I did exactly that, but my bolt that hold the pulley on the shaft always slacks... Loctite?
Yes
So what would be making a loud squeal and then the snowblower dying? It stays running just fine and then when I power into wet ice it will bog up and then died out but the belt wasn't even squealing then that was after it had been squealing or so according to what the wife had said along with my daughter when I wasn't around one day. Model 37779 by Toro of course. Throwing a new Auger belt on it for now in hopes of it working.
If it only squeals when releasing the handle I'd say the pad on the brake arm is worn through, if it won't blow and is squealing while handle is down there is probably a rock jammed in the impeller
Can't get my impact on the crank bolt...so it is a pain the ass. Any way to keep the crank from turning and use a spanner?
A cheap strap wrench from harbor freight works, or if its a room issue a long extension to get you past the chute
@@Coakleyfixedit207 Thx. Gotta jimmy something up I guess.
You can use leather belt and a pair of pliers as a strap wrench to hold it
@@Coakleyfixedit207 Yeah, I ended up using the dummy end of a ratchet strap...hooked onto the axle and fed the strap around the crank pulley a few times. Worked great. Done deal. I smelled the belts burning a little when I used it afterward. I assume this is normal? Took off the cowling and had a look. Everything looked fine...
Awesome video Ryan. Is there a difference between the belts and cable replacement? I have a Toro powermax 826 oe.
Which cable? The one that is hooked to the blue button on the joystick is a process and would be a good one for a video, the other chute cable for the deflector is easy peasy, the augers and drive cables are also pretty straightforward
@@Coakleyfixedit207 . Hey Ryan sorry for the confusion I meant the trunion cables you talked about. I adjusted the blower side...which helped....but I think I need new belts. Do you know the belt replacement part number? It's a Toro 826 0e powermax. Love your channel. Very well done. Thanks
@@nickferrence8593 off the top of my head I'm gonna say 106-4498. But if you give me your 5 digit model number I can tell you for sure, of yours isn't throwing snow the first thing I'd check is for play in the augers bearing by grabbing the shaft in the bucket and checking for play, you can also check it by moving the pulley the auger belt wraps around up and down
@@Coakleyfixedit207 . Hey Ryan from the manual the number is 38624. I took a picture of the belt but it was too worn to read. Thanks in advance
Let's keep the camera off the head there jones
Nice informative video, mine is Power max model 38622 - serial 270000001, is it possible to know the two belts parts info ?Thanks !
94-8812 is the drive belt 106-4498 is the augers
How Long in inches is outside length of drive and auger belt and width of belt
No idea, oem parts don't go by length they go by fitment.
@@Coakleyfixedit207 reason i ask want change to cevlar belt auger belt is 1/2 inch width and drive belt 3/8 inch width, but i can remove the old belt and measure outside length
@@kjell-richardlvdal373 if your buying the belt locally you can take the old one in and have them match it up
Can you show us how to tighten the belt if it is sliping Thanks MikePowers
Depends which belt but the adjustment is kinda a joke there is a cable with a trunion coming off both handles that can be tightened to add a little tension but in reality if they are slipping either your auger bearing is bad in the back of the bucket or your friction plate may be glazed over, assuming the belts are fine
Ill try and make a video today I have a couple in line today
I'm uploading the video on how to right now, thanks again for the suggestion
Can’t you just tie wrap the auger engage lever down instead of removing that bracket for the idle pulley?
You can you still have to squeeze the belt by and I have big hands so it's faster for my to just pull the 2 bolts, but that works too if you can get your hand in there
@@Coakleyfixedit207. BTW,Thanks for the video . I am replacing the belts on my 2009 Power .max 828oxe. For the first time. Yea , I know. I should of replaced them sooner. Got lucky they did not break
Incredibly helpful video. But I could hate you for changing both belts in under 9 1/2 minutes.
Hahahaha I suppose I should thank you for the compliment
I am getting motion sick.
auger belt is easy, you never showed how to replace the traction belt. That's a monster job.
Traction belt is the easy one.... you slip it off the drive pulley, pill it out past the friction disk, push the new belt past the disk and put it back on the pulleys
He litershowed you how in the video bro.
Can't watch it- makes me dizzy and sick with the camera constant movement.

Toro Snow blowers are junk had a mtd for 20 plus yrs never did anything to it get a toro and the things always broken can't never run and it is always broken when it snows the most and you need it.
i can tell by this comment you've never worked on or used a new mtd product they are made out of recycled dogfood cans. nothing made now of any brand can compete with things made 20+ years ago
@@Coakleyfixedit207 I get that but for a 1,500 snow blower you would think it would run
@@Lifesrad8 snow blowers tend to have issues related to old gas like generators because they sit for long periods of time could this be part of the issue? or some toros come with chinese lct engines which are absolute trash, the old techumseh were a much better snow blower engine
