Why did you remove the auger idle pulley , but then take off the bracket. Can’t you just take off the bracket with the pulley still attached?
If I understand your question right. When I change the belt there is two holes in the bracket for the idle pulley. With the new shorter belt I had to change to the other hole. When the belt becomes used it gets longer and then I can change to the upper hole to keep using the belt a couple of years longer.

How long did those old ones last?
I think I bought the snowblower 2011 and I have replaced the belts once before so these lasted about 6 years.

@@karl-goranhannukainen5432 A heavy snow for me would only be 30 minutes or so.
I bought mine in 2009 and never replaced the belts. Going to replace before this winter. Don’t want to tempt fate
