The Black Dahlia saved my life twenty five years after she died. I was born and raised in Hollywood, but had never heard of the case until I was her exact age when she died. The case was being covered in a local magazine and the horror of it was unimaginable. At the same time as I was reading about it, with pictures, there were very loud knocks at my apartment door at 11 p.m.! I could tell by the height of the knock it was our very large building maintenance man, who gave me the creeps. Normally, being stupid and naive, I would have answered the door. Next morning there was some mail he had delivered to my door, probably hoping I would open it. I moved the next day because this guy had a master key to my apartment! Shortly thereafter, he murdered a young girl who also lived there who looked just like me. God bless you, Elizabeth Short.
I think the raindrops on the window added to the sadness and gloom of the story. I remember looking at the crime scene photos (full-on horror) in my copy of Hollywood Babylon....mixture of shock and sadness. You did a great job on this senseless crime...this is most likely why many mothers told their daughters to steer clear of Hollywood.
Hollywood is a great destroyer of many of the thousands of nameless young women that swarm that place in hopes of getting into the cutthroat entertainment business.
A man wrote a book about his father..he thinks he was the killer..inside a big house..about a peinting of centaure.that d why she wad cut in half..empty..with a watch inside if I remember correctly.

I was born in Medford, MA, the city my parents were from and Elizabeth Short was from. My dad lived on the same street as her, he was a couple of years younger than her and knew her sister. My dad was in the Navy during WWII and was in LA for a while. But he said he never went to the Hollywood Canteen. He did meet a few stars. Humphrey Bogart, Ray Bolger, Ward Bond.
I think you did a great job filming Jordan. I never thought about the rain. I thought about what was being said and the sights. You do an excellent job Jordan. Always interesting and very informative.
I wonder how the home owners feel when people are standing in front of their house discussing a dead body that was found there - I would be spooked. I had heard about this but never had so many details - good vlog Jordan!
Oh..I grew up in a neolithic cemetary when they found skulls with holes trepannés. Also less than 1/2 miles from my grandpa house around 3000 dead bodies from ww1 and 1918.20 war..in the middle of cultures...gardens..he was easy to find humans bones..shoes..after the rains. Also in one appartment on rent..after one year we knew about a lady who killed herself in the kitchen..hanging from a metalic stuff who was still here. Anyway..on the streets in europe..you have certainly bodies..from antiquity..middle age..and a lot of people died in all m2 we walked everyday..wars..bombs.. Death is not a stranger.
The rain actually added to the sadness and mysterious of the story. Hodel's son, who was an LA homicide detective, believes his father was not only the Black Dahlia killer but the Zodiac Killer. I pictured some person living in that house on the spot where Elizabeth Short's body was found having no clue and looking out the window thinking "What is all this fascination with the corner of my lawn?" 😂
My 44 year old daughter went to High School (Robert Louis Stevenson School in Pebble Beach) with Emily Factor. Her grandfather founded Max Factor, and I still love that brand, and buy lots of his products, especially the Facefinity Compact Foundation!!
My wife’s grandfather (Will Fowler)was the first person on scene as a reporter and was the photographer (Felix Paegel)was with that took those pictures ( her uncle has some of the original set)
Jordan, everything you do is excellent. Remember,I told you your taking a lot of people to places they may never get to visit otherwise. So, I always feel fortunate to have found your vlog. I wish they could solve this murder though. It was a horrible, down right unacceptable unsolved mystery!
Wow Jordan. I heard this story before but not in such great detail. Interesting, horrifying & sad All at the same time. Thank you so much sweet man for taking us along for the tour. I’ll never get to do anything like that. God bless you and keep on keeping on😇😊
This is certainly another fascinating Vlog. I have always heard about the Black Dahlia, but had know idea what she was about. How sad for her and her family. You do such a great job finding so many different topics. Thank you.
I feel like the rain added to the haunting atmosphere of this tragic tale. I really enjoyed it. This was an excellent retelling of the events surrounding the murder with facts unknown to me until today. The interior of the Biltmore is gorgeous! Love seeing the architecture preserved. Hey Jordan! I loved the rain during this vlog. It added to the ambience of this sad tragedy. I could see everything fine. This is such a horrible thing that happened. They're pretty positive who the murderer was. The dr, Cant remember his name. But his son had some evidence that pretty much solves it. But yes, technically it'll never be solved bc the man they think did is long dead and gone
I believe Steve Hodel, son of the man he accuses of this and other "lone woman" murders in L.A. at about that time, solved it, and so do many within the L.A. police dept. But the case will not be pursued because to do so would shine a very unflattering light on the L A police dept that almost had Dr. Hodel in the bag, but permitted him to escape while concealing and destroying evidence.
