  • I've gotten a lot of questions about dog walking on my videos so I thought I'd film a little Q&A to answer some of those questions!
    If you want to skip to a certain question then check the times below:
    0:36 How do you deal with all of the leashes?
    1:48 How do you control the dogs?
    3:26 Is it hard to find the clients house?
    4:13 How much money do you make dog walking?
    6:20 What training do you need to be a dog walker?
    If you find that there are any burning questions that I didn't answer then leave a comment in the comment section and I'll try to answer it!
    Thanks for watching guys!

    I charge $75 per hour per dog and I charge for 2 hours so $150 per dog. I walk 7 dogs at once and I do 2 walks a day with a 2 hour break in between walks. I take 1 set of dogs on Monday’s and Wednesday’s and the other set on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s each set has a morning and afternoon group and each group is 7 dogs I work 190 days a year as I take the month of December off. I recommend for anyone trying to enter the business to target wealthy areas as owners are willing to pay a lot more for there dogs to be walked. I also recommend investing in a sprinter van with custom cages in the back for transportation and multi dog leads.

    • @InRuffCompany
      @InRuffCompany  4 роки тому +13

      Yes Yes Yes to everything you just said! The van will be so very helpful. People who have a bit of extra money are much more likely to pay good money for their dogs, which will help you to buy things for your business (like the van). Honestly, I also find that people in wealthier areas are also more willing to work with their dogs on the training that you recommend because oftentimes one of the adults in the family is home during the day. So it's a nice relationship!

    If you are thinking of starting your own dog-walking business you may want to start volunteering at a local shelter like the Humane Society in your area. We are always in need of help and you will learn if this is really what you want to do. Plus you will learn a lot about animals and their behaviors.

    Hello everyone. Dog walking / sitting is my love passion. I have a question for In Ruff? What is the going rate for me dog sitting in my home from 9am- 6pm. I have done it with Rover and they only pay $20. I don't think that is far, but I just love the pups and gives me joy and peace doing what I love. I also want to do a website when do you start your information class again?

      I made a video about this! It's in the "A Dog Walkers Guide" playlist. The short version is to avert your eyes and stand on a slight angle away from them (not fully turned away but just a little). Hold out your hand to allow them to sniff. Always let them come to you, and don't move quickly. Allow them to see that you're not a threat, and all will be well!

    • @Jamiesadventuresandtravel
      @Jamiesadventuresandtravel 2 роки тому

      One good way I have found is to do a meet and greet with the dogs owner there as when the dog sees you with their owner they will less likely be nervous or protective. Let them approach you too and remain quiet around them at the start if they are a little nervous. I haven't had any problems with doing that approach plus it's good for the owner to meet you and speak in person before leaving their best friend with you!

    So why do you charge $20 per hour for a dog walk with multiple dogs but only $17 for a single dog walk. It would seem logical to do the opposite since a single dogwalk devotes your attention to one dog and the $20 charge has multiple dogs.

    How do you do group dog walks? Under what circumstances would that be? Thanks!

    • @InRuffCompany
      @InRuffCompany  4 роки тому

      Some people prefer for their dog to go on a group walk with their dog friends rather than have them walk solo in their own neighborhood. Depends on the client! In terms of how you do them, there's a lot of working pieces that go into managing that, but it is MUCH easier to do it if you have a car and are able to bring the dogs to a dog park, rather than walk them all on leash at the same time

    • @InRuffCompany
      @InRuffCompany  6 років тому +2

      First aid is really important for dog walking! Even just knowing the basics can really make you look professional, and will give you a skillset if an incident should arise. It's amazing that you've been looking into it. Some dog training facilities offer them, and some dog daycares do as well. If there aren't any certification courses around you there are some great online ones. I can't recommend any in particular because I haven't done them but I have heard of people doing them to great success.

  • @savannah8947
    @savannah8947 3 роки тому +4

    Hey I'm Savannah. I have taken up Dog Waking and Dog Sitting for this summer. I have a questions, Please Help:
    I just come across a small issue. One lady that I am walking her 2 dogs for (3 times a week) says that I walk her dogs too fast and that they come back inside panting heavily and lying down. For my other families that I am working for, I walk for 1hr. This lady told me to walk her dogs for 25mins, since it's hot, around 6:30pm. I offered to walk them 30mins, since that's closer to my 1hr rate. Today, she gets frustrated and says that she's paying for the full hour, and that I'm not doing that. I tell her that she's specifically told me to only go for 25mins. She says that I "make" them walk too fast and they get too tired when they arrive home. I have had no problem with any other family, and they have asked me to walk in the heat of the day.
    The lady owns a Beagle/Mix and a French Bulldog. They are both on the Obese-side and are older. The French Bulldog, already has a short snout and doesn't breathe well on the walks anyway. I think a shorter walking time is better for them to be outside anyway, and not stay out longer in the heat. I have even offered to walk the dogs separately, since the Beagle/Mix actually wants to walk normal speed. That way I can focus on each need separately. But the Lady said "No".
    Could you please help me understand what to do in a situation like this?
    Thank You!

      *Aesthetic Mocha* I wish it was that easy. This lady is one who doesn’t really want to hear other opinion for her dogs (not very open). She wants to do it her way and her way only. Apparently, even it’s its harming her own dogs. She even whips the French bull with the tail end of the rope leash when trying to leash both dog up. The French bull do bite and hold onto the other dogs leash crazily. But adding physical punishment harm to this situation obviously doesn’t help and make it any less chaotic. I feel bad for the mix, because he’s sweet and let’s the French bully him.

      Harli Armes I definitely think it varies depending on where you live! $50/hour would be unheard of here, and no one would hire bc it would be considered too high, so it just shows the importance of knowing your area. • @InRuffCompany
      @InRuffCompany  4 роки тому +1

      There's not really a set age, but I'd say generally people will want you to be at least 12. It depends on the dog though really! If it's a very large dog they will likely want someone older, but a smaller dog could be walked by a smaller person :)

      @RyanWillis227 3 роки тому +1

      it's recommended to walk larger breeds with fellow larger breeds, and smaller breeds with fellow smaller breeds - But if they are well behaved maybe you can make exceptions.
      And idk about dog parks, I'm just going to use a local park

    • @InRuffCompany
      @InRuffCompany  3 роки тому

      Yes, Ryans reply is right. It's good to walk dogs that are similar size BUT the most important aspect is personality. There are some small dogs who prefer to be with the big dogs because their personality matches. So roughly base it on size, but there are other factors. With regards to the dog park, you don't have to drive there if it is close enough to walk from the house.

      At one point I started making $2,000/weekly. Income really varies, it’s not a set salary but I would say $2k-6k/ monthly as holidays can either be busy or non busy depending what clients need during those holiday seasons. But steady weekly income is between $500-$1,500 full time or part time. Hope that helped!

      What difference would it make? She could say she walks 10 dogs a day, but it won't impact how many dogs *you* could walk a day. Just do the math yourself?
      If you charge $20 per dog for a 1 hour walk, and you take a group of 5 dogs at a time, that's $100 per group. If you do two groups per day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon), you're making $200 per day. Do that 5 days a week, and you're making $1000 a week. Do that 50 weeks a year, taking 2 weeks vacation, and you're making $50k a year in revenue, before expenses.

      @@indigomoon7848 it makes a difference.. It's not about the math it's about getting enough client.. What if she get only one client a week? That's why she should have shared how many dogs she walks or board in a week in average.. So we can figure if it's worth it or not.. 20 dollar is not all yours you need to give some of it to rover, so she should have shared some estimate how many client she get in average and how much she makes a month with that... The video is pointless if you talk about a job but miss out all the important details.. 😏 Also how do you walk 5 dogs at the same time? They all come from different areas and require you to go there and pick up the dog in different time frames they all in different location.. So she need to be more specific.. I might not get 5 client a day I don't know how busy the site is, we needed details!

      @@jaffled if you think about it, if she's doing this with a lot of dogs , fine x that by $40 is "a lot of money". however, most pet owners wouldn't like their pet sleeping with other dogs, and this being after hours , and being a premium service, $80-100 isn't a lot to ask for. Who knows, the requirements, may be the pet needs to sleep inside and in the same bedroom as the sitter (or even bed!!) , service may also include evening meal, medication, cleaning teeth, an evening walk and early morning walk with meal. Many things aren't being considered here. I don't belive in those websites services she's endorsing, as it also cheapens the service to pennies.

      Rachun Kizacks I wish everyone valued our time as much as you seem to! I’ve been a dog sitter for 6 years and it is incredible that the clients sometimes only want to pay $25 for a full day along with feeding, walks, attention, medications, etc! It’s demeaning unfortunately. With Rover services being so cheap sometimes a lot of the more expensive sitters do not get requests which is why I’ve had to lower my prices, someone robbed the market. 😪 I fully agree with your thoughts, it should be around $60-$100

    • @ihatekillerclowns
      @ihatekillerclowns 4 роки тому +1

      @@goingtobeok It's demeaning isn't it? I see it as any other industry. Why shouldn't we get paid what we are worth per hour? It's insulting, as it's a very specialized service.. A guy with 6 years graphic design experience gets paid mega bucks to offer his services. I guess this is the problem with a free market, but I still believe these pet websites play a huge role in this farce, and are only interestd in money, not the welfare of pets. They shouldn't allow the rates to go below min wage , as lazy people with little imagination are going to sell their services cheaper and cheaper and use it as a unique selling point for their service. The websites alogrithm will give that particular listing a boost also, so they are encouraging it . I don't blame the pet owners, as it's human nature to go for the cheapest in the end. These websites have a lot to answer for.
      As of recently I've been doing "house sitting", but it's more or less pet sitting because all the owners own pets and wish to go on holidays at the same time. I get paid peanuts to sit, but I save on accommodation / electricity / gas even food costs sometimes and on long sits of a month I save upwards of $2000-2500 ...and get to go on a holiday while working on my ecommerce business.
