Man I can relate to all this you are talking about here. I’m 9 years into my business and still haven’t worked out most of this. Guess I’ve just been lazy but it’s time to buckle down and start organizing and becoming more professional. Just figured it was easy to keep doing my simple system but if I misplace anything, I’m screwed. No backup cause everything on paper.
I started my business because my neighbor asked me to care for her dog one day. I’ve always had dogs and been around pets since I was a child. I have dog walking insurance, but no business license.
I can for sure relate to ALL these mistakes! I have had my own business for over 20 years ( window cleaning), and I still have customers who expect the same price for service as they got 20 years ago. I'm looking into dog sitting as a new field to try. thanks for all your info.
Business coach sounds expensive in the beginning of business when I haven't made any money yet. Thank you your info is so important for someone starting out.
Im going to start this now, when I retire this is what I want to do. I started a catering business so this is going to come pretty easy to me, already have my business plan but a good name I need. This will be fun and very well thought out.
Thanks for the video! I’m just starting out but I’m in the process of avoiding these mistakes from the get go. Thanks for sharing all the valuable wisdom that’s helping my new company start off on the right foot!
Thanks so much! You're going to do great with your new company! Let me know if there's anything you'd like me to cover in a video that I haven't already :)
Very well put together and present it video mate. I am neither in or interested in your industry at all, but still found plenty of value. Keep doing what you’re doing.👍🏼
Another great video! Luckily I worked for someone for a year (who probably made a lot of the same mistakes you made in the beginning), so when I started my business, I was good to go. Love your UA-cam videos!
I’m starting a dog walking company now and have plenty of questions. Would you consider a zoom call to help me start my business. I of course would pay you for your time. Update. I just finished your vide and you already answered my above question. I’ll be in touch!
hi Im just starting out right now and cant pay for my own buisness, have my own team, broke, and having a hard time finding a job when applying everyday. I want to offer pet sitting, pet walking, and charge extra for photography. I have an add and wanted to print some flyers and hang them around some kennels, dog parks, and maby a few starbucks. I have a idea on prices and incentives as well.
Hi! I charge a $10 to $50 "travel fee" (depending on time/distance) for clients that are just a bit outside of my service area. I have a set daily rate that includes "live-in care," missed wages from other clients, and pet care for my own dog for when I travel to different states/countries for clients.
Hi Doug! New to your channel! How do you go about affording contracts to be written, insurance, etc, when you are just starting and only have a few clients?
Hi, Doug. I’m accidentally starting my own pet sitting business. Your advice is clutch! Many thanks!!
I’m new to the pet sitting world. I’ll be binge watching your videos. I can already relate to so much your saying and I’m not even a year in yet!
I love this video. I love it more how the dog just randomly walks into the forest during the video.😂😂
I am a very fast growing pet sitter so thank you for this advice. I definitely need to slow it down for the sake of a healthy business long term
I plan on starting dog walking and sitting as a source of income this year. Binging some of these videos.

Thanks for watching! Definitely a lot of similarities to cleaning businesses and pet sitting businesses!
@@DougtheDogGuy I'm starting to do some dog sitting, and looking into pet transport biz. thanks again!!

Well Done - Thanks for being honest

Thank you! That's great that you were able to learn from someone before starting your own business
Thank you!
Love this extremely honest advice - God bless you ❤
So good. You've helped me realize what changes to make moving forward. Thank you.
What scheduling and payment platform did you sign up for? I’m trying to start my own business doing it and scheduling is very important to me.
Thanks for sharing!

Excellent advice 👍
Also another question how do you bring along turkey for extended sits do you bring him to meet and greet or?
Hi! I bring Turkey to the meet & greet when clients let him come along. He has to stay at home for most gigs though
Hi Doug! I'm curious, What kind of license do you have in Florida? Thank you for your videos.
Hello, Can we set up a time to chat over a few things. I currently have a home based dog boarding business, and I had a few questions.
Hi Doug, what do you suggest on how to charge for travel to clients outside of your area? For mileage and time?
Hi! I charge a $10 to $50 "travel fee" (depending on time/distance) for clients that are just a bit outside of my service area. I have a set daily rate that includes "live-in care," missed wages from other clients, and pet care for my own dog for when I travel to different states/countries for clients.
Do you have workers compensation insurance?
Yes we do. I talk about workers comp (and a lot of other things) in this video: ua-cam.com/video/VJkopO9vWq0/v-deo.html
Hi Doug! New to your channel! How do you go about affording contracts to be written, insurance, etc, when you are just starting and only have a few clients?
Pet Sitters International (PSI) membership offers discounts on those.
What platform did you use ?
Hi! Platform for what? Not sure I understand what you're asking
