Scott's a class act - always had the most time for fans and is a seriously underrated bassist. I found it a bit weird when describing timing he only referred to Brian as the guitar player though?
At first I kind of felt the same way (about him only referring to Brian as the guitar player), but it seems like he does this for all the other guys in the band at one point or another, calling Rivers “our singer”, etc. I do agree that it’s weird he doesn’t refer to Brian by name, but I also feel like it probably means nothing. I saw Weezer in concert about a month ago and everyone seemed like they got along great.
He literally calls him Brian right here 1:08:31. I think he's referring to him as "the guitar player" most of the time just in case the regular listeners don't know who Brian is.
@@ggr9745 good call! Only Weezer fans are going to be aware of everyone's names. Everyone is going to understand first guitar player. I did have to chuckle, though, cause I thought it was odd phrasing, too.
@@ggr9745Yup, a lot of people, including myself are like that. I dont like to assume that people know the people I know so Im very general with the way I refer to people. Its a personality thing
Scott is the man. He's responded to me on social media a few times and its so cool to have even a moment of interaction with someone you have always been a fan of. Great episode guys. Keep up the good work!
Just saw Weezer last night “Into the Blue”. They played the blue album straight through. The show ended with Scott setting his P-Bass down while letting the final note ring out. My chest vibrated. The concert couldn’t have ended on a better note. Awesome podcast.
This is such a great lesson about humility and how to service the song. I sent it to my guitar teacher! Who knew Scott Shriner could preach?! Renewed my love of Weezer.
Scott is super down to earth. I remember years ago when IG first came out, he was the first famous person i followed to actually reply and comment back. Seems like a small thing but loads didnt do it back then. Thats always stuck with me, hes got ZERO ego and when youre in a vand like weezer you ciuld easily have one. What a guy
Ive been playing bass for over 30 years and I learn stuff from SBL almost every podcast.. Im so grateful for you guys and I appreciate what you guys do everyday.
Shriner is so right about the value of what SBL is doing for modern bass players. I started in 1963 and have learned more in the last five years with SBL than I learned in the previous 50.
Scott is so down to earth and this was great to watch. The Indy Rock Tour with their opening bands really worked well. I'd say Scott is even more shy than Rivers (the one time I got to meet the band) and I don't think he realized he's valued by the fans. Can't wait to see everything coming up in 2024.
There was a time when Scott was replying to all of his Instagram messages. Then a lot of people started to send him troll messages so he stopped replying
Scott pretty much said everything I love and appreciate SBL and SBL podcast... It's fantastic resource and community that I wish existed all those moons ago
I have a suspicion on the salivation. Amazing. If you are particularly relaxed (or let’s say less anxious) when you play that bass (smell, feel, past experiences that all create these pathways in your brain)…then that helps relax your lambic system. So salivating isn’t a causal thing it is a result of a decrease in anxiety. This is just a professional hypothesis but if it is accurate for you, it can be something to help you become more mindful of a low level of constant anxiety that is happening. For example in a known stressful situation do you go cotton mouth. Anyway…blah blah. I love the brain and the bass.
Great interview guys as always. Big early Weezer fan anyway, but an interesting guy and an interesting perspective on knowing your role in the band. Keep these coming Scott and Ian. You guys get it so it's good to have you both interviewing and asking the right questions :)
Great conversation! (I know of only one player that played a Fender P bass like it was a silk Ken Smith bass: Scott Thunes (Zappa)...🤗. And perhaps Tom Fowler, also with Zappa (Roxy and elsewhere album).)
I was thinking the other day since I'm trying to learn to slap and they're my favourite band I think. There's not really any slapping songs in Weezer's catalogue right? Or is there some I'm forgetting? I'd love to know.
These podcasts are the best. Who imagined Shriner was into doom/sludge/post music? It would be very interesting having these conversations with not mainstream players as well in that genre, like Brian Cook, Jeff Caxide and Mattias Hägerstrand, just to name a few.
I'd like to hear an interview where the guest is heard more than the hosts. That's not possible with these guys. Does anyone know of a good channel/podcast?

Technically Brian plays the rhytmic guitar, Rivers plays the lead guitar (and Pat should play the drums haha)

He still replies to a ton of people to this day! Especially if it’s bass related!

Loved this podcast. I never got into Weezer… but Scott sounds like such awesome guy, now I want to give them a REAL listen. Cheers guys.

Have you listened to them yet
@pushsueaside I hope you had a chance to listen by now. The Black Album and Van Weezer are solid.
Scott sings in the song King which is a B-side from the Red album era and is such an underrated song, you should give it a listen!
@@Kyogre9600 loved it. Best song so far! Cheers
Amazing podcast. Scott Shriner what a legend. Thanks SBL top class interview.
You guys never disappoint. Please keep these episodes coming. I loved this conversation.
This was amazing! The chemistry, stories, and knowledge share was off the charts. 1000% bad assery
This was probably great feedback for scott and Ian, he does great at laying out what makes their content great for the world.

Man, you guys are so wholesome! 😊 Listening to you makes me so much happier than anything that can be bought with money!

fantastic episode. so much fun and so much bass nerding out ! thanks !
Thanks for this, what a great guy !

When Scott says Roger Daultry is gorgeous, and Devine and Ian are like “yes, yes” will love in their eyes 🤣 Music Bro love is deep.
Amazing interview. Not a podcast yet that I haven't taken really useful info from in my quest to learn bass.
Great conversation!

I love this! Ian's energy is amazing.. Has been a great addition to this channel.
So much charisma on one podcast!! Great stuff guys. The p-bass drool needs mentioning on every show, it’s comedy gold 😂😂
Scott is my favorite Weezer bassist, much more so than Matt Sharp. He almost doesn't fit in and thats why it works. Great player, great guy.
This was great. What a brilliant episode
cant stop looking at his adams apple jumping up and down while he talks
great interview n a few good laughs
Wow this is Epic AF!!
Had to migrate to UA-cam for this one, Apple Podcasts only had 24mins😢. Love you guys though, couldn’t miss it
It's 24 minutes long on Google Podcasts too
Amazing may be an understatement ...

That’s was a great chat
Great episode! Not sure if it’s intentional but the Spotify version is just a splice of short cuts 😢
Scott Shriner's bass face brought me here.
Yesss!
What great dude! I just became a bigger fan of Weezer now.
Maybe Scott is the English Ian? lol
Is it me or is the Spotify edit completely wonked? Skipped around all over and finished abruptly after ~30 min
It's the same on Google podcast and Apple. No idea why.
I'd like to hear an interview where the guest is heard more than the hosts. That's not possible with these guys. Does anyone know of a good channel/podcast?
Chris Shifflet from the Foos just started one analyzing guitar solos. He's the same, just listens to the guest.
Flats+ P bass = cave man…😂
