I very much enjoyed seeing your artwork. I’m also a big fan of Katie Green so I encourage you to keep including us in all your artsy adventures. I’m feeling slightly motivated to dust off my sewing machine. Thanks!
Hi Sam! I always enjoy when you share your artwork and your shorts where I love to see you actually paint. It’s a unique and wonderful part of you as is your knitting. So no need to tuck it away!! Your Billie sweater is gorgeous in that rich color. Keep going with it even if it’s taking longer than you wish. I’ve just knit Sari Nordlund’s Poet Tee and it’s so pretty. I’m smitten with her patterns and have plans for more very soon. I’ve made many knit and crochet blankets over the years and do not put a backing on them. The back side has its charm and gives more insight into the pattern. Although I’ve never done it, I think it would be a challenge to attach it on the perimeter without it peeking out on the front, but also having to somehow sew it together in many places so that the backing doesn’t balloon out. Kind of like tie-quilting. Since wool is self-cleansing, and whatever backing you put on it will probably not have that quality, it also makes me wonder about all the washing that might be required that wouldn’t be necessary if there was no lining. Just my thoughts, but whatever you decide just make it the way you want it. Take care.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 enjoyed listening to this episode while knitting on my holidays. Sipping a nice coffee with cicadas singing in the background 😌 thank you for the company. I actually wonder if your week has the same amount of hours as normal people 🤔 the way you get to fit so much crafting and still have a full time job is beyond me. Very inspiring indeed. Funny I also have a vintage Singer from 1935 which is one of the best presents I have ever received but I only used a few times and with poor results 😅, thanks for the servicing tips. You made me want to bring it out and maybe take a few sewing lessons
Your Billie sweater is looking so good. Smart to just focus on it I've backed some of my crochet blankets and left other. I think it's just personal preference. As a someone who has sewed since I was a small child, congrats on altering your jeans into shorts. I go through sewing phases (lots of projects and then my machine sits in a cabinet for months/years) I think being able to alter clothing is so empowering. In the states thrift shop sheets are cheap and you can use them as fabric (especially for learning or mock up before you cut your expensive fabric). and lastly your watercolors are fantastic
I thinks the same, being able to make general clothes your own is very helpful! I should dedicate more to the sewing skills. If only a day had more hours in it!!!!
I was so glad you mentioned the books. I was sitting here saying to you, 'tell me about the books.' I read Pillars of the Earth years ago and several of his other books, but no more in that trilogy. Apparently there is also a prequel. Enjoy reading and whatever helps with your mental health.
Next you need to read The Evening and the Morning by Ken Follett..Its the prequel to those books. Just as amazing. So also enjoyed seeing your watercolors. They are lovely.
Well hello. Oh my, that red cable sweater is gorgeous! Seems worthy of focus. I hope a fellow artist finds this and can communicate to create the right relationship. I love your paintings, so will happily look at them. Oh, I'll have to look for the other two books Some authors do make one want to savor their work. I battle myself to slow my gluttony to finish in order to enjoy the writing and postpone it's ending. Happy weekend to you.
Hi Sam, I'm a huge fan of the straight stitch machines Singer sewing machines. I have a lovely singer 1951. Love it! You might want to take a look at Tin Can Knits "Marshland". It is a well written pattern and a lovely color work circular yoke sweater. Would make a great cardigan. Enjoy!
Hi Sam love the beautiful wine coloured jumper you are knitting the work in incredible Am thinking of purchasing a couple of books from Amazon of Ken Follet they sound very readable so thank you for showing them anyway take care ❤
Hi Sam, watch your podcast for a while... I love what you knit... and especially your way of talking about your knits and yarn and wool... and your Italian accent! 😊 But now I also realised: I love your paintings! Wow!!! Do you sell them? (but probably too expensive for me anyway...) or could I send you a picture... and maybe, if you like it, you could paint it... ? Send you greetings from Germany... Katja And, by the way, you inspired me to knit pride socks last month... one pair for a very sweet colleague of me and one pair of rainbow socks for a 4 year old girl... but unfortunately I forgot to post them on Instagram in time... but still wanted to tell you... I was with you!!! 🌈🤗
The early Singer machines were wonderful!! They operate smoothly and don’t make the nasty grating sound that you get with modern machines.
Yeah! The sound is just very relaxing…unless you are making a mistake and it becomes annoying 😂 just joking
Showing the back of your blanket shows more of the work put into the piece. You should be proud of all sides of your work. 😁
That’s a good point
Sam you are such a beautiful person with soooooooo much amazing talent. I love your watercolor work-- especially the Venice Gondolas-- WOW !!!!!
Aw thank you ❤️
