Thank you so much for this! I have been taking a Platonism class this term (about the Timaeus in specific), and I have been... overwhelmingly confused. This helped so much! Thanks again!
Forget the political Content of the Timaeus. More important are the historical facts. These Informations are from Egyptian High Priests. Solon got this Informations, when he was over 1 year in Egypt. Solon brought it to greece. Solon had a brother Dropides, an Ancester of Plato, six generations before him. Solon was the source of Informations written in the Timaeus. PS: The Greec gods was from the North, Hyperborea.
Thank you for your insights! I’m curious if you know of any scholars who have considered Jesus’ healing of Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus in Mark 10:46-52 as related to Plato’s dialog.
im not fully convinced plato himself is fully on board with this mythology. some things he says at the beginning, and also its told by someone else rather than plato/socrates, which is interesting
"Mythos" just means story, or proclamation. It's we "moderns" who are too ignorant and narrow in our conceptualization of the term to realize what was being communicated by the stories (the myths) being utilized by the ancients. Plato clearly advocates the myth offered by Timaeus in this dialogue, but it is an allegory of political philosophy and not cosmology.
Can we ever seek to go above nature tied and integrated and fused to rational teleological Law and Logos as the good the true and the beautiful Law that is encapsulated Information represented by the physical Laws of the Intelligence outside our universe?
When they say they believe in the gods… that’s exactly what they mean.. Where history ends, “legend” begins.. why.. because “we” can’t accept that reality..
“ Reason” is not in any way a “law”, it’s barely more than an opinion. The “Good” is a similarly subjective, and superficial concept. The Logos in its original Greek meaning, did not preclude destruction and more than it guaranteed or required “reason” or “the good”. Volcanoes are the single most destructive force on earth. They are also the most creative force and most responsible for the existence of “terra” itself. Plato was attempting to ESCAPE reality because he could not handle it. Escapism is not art.

No. But the authentic letters of Paul demonstrate familiarity with various Platonic and other Greek dialogues and plays.
I did find this article which continues the discussion:
