It was really sad to watch. I really wanted Phil out of the table. This table has millionaires with substantial incomes, they don’t care about money. Yah, Phil wasn’t there to have fun. He went there thinking he could beat these amateurs and treated it like a tournament where people tend to play good hands. We’ve seen times in the past where someone raised with Q-10 and he freaks out, in cash games that happens all the time. Also he’s more use to like 2-3 people to the flop and not 6+ people where your good starting hand will get crushed by a crap hand that hit a lucky flop.
One of the biggest issues is that he played with so little compared to them so he can’t really push them around to fold preflop like he did on the Big Game way back. They aren’t gunna food to a bet that doesn’t even affect them and thus it cause too many people to see the flop

Hellmuth knows his brand, knows his rants are actually his calling card, and people dream of sucking out on him, and triggering a rant. At this point, it's about brand awareness- and you can bet all the people at that table weren't that offended, and got to witness in person a good classic Hellmuth tilt. Kind of a major bucket list thing. How are people not getting that?

I used to play in some extremely wild games like this. When complete amateur play super loose with deep stacks. It doesn't take long to realize that straddling is probably +EV. So much random action happens pre-flop that one makes so much money jamming AQo into tons of dead money when acting last pre flop. I would have guessed Hellmuth knows this.

Putting Hellmuth on this stream was a huge mistake on Ryan's part, IMO. While what Daniel says is true - that these social media types aren't really intimidated by him since they are far more influential than he is in the wider world, he's basically an eeyore... a grump. People enjoy watching Phil lose to people like Negraneau or Tony G or Esfandiari... People who will needle him as he loses. But these amateurs weren't doing that, so in essence, Phil wasn't getting "tortured enough" to make his appearance on this stream worthwhile from a poker marketing perspective. At least that's how I see it. I would have much rather seen someone like Garrett Adelstein on the stream with them. Someone who's a top rim cash game player, but who can also very easily go with the flow and help create positive, fun energy at the table.

Yeah, the producers fucked this up fully. There's a difference between phil being "entertaining" with a bunch of pros who don't take his little fits seriously and he cant bully around, and what's literally meant to be an entertainment match with some young, easy going streamers trying to have a fun amateur game. Huge whiff, and sorry, it's actually not Phil's fault. Phil has 20 years of being condescending, petty, and abrasive on televised poker. It's his ENTIRE THING. How do you EVER think, "this will be good in this streamer game"? The fault is with whoever thought that THAT was who to throw in that mix of people. Negreanu would've CLEARLY been a better fit, but like. Literally anyone BUT hellmuth.
