That green could be ferrous sulphate.

      You might mean Cupric sulphate?
If I recall (it was some time ago when I got this particular Trane D.R.T.), there was a pungent odor of ammonia(?) when this was first removed from the system.

You might think it’s ferrous sulfate because of its green color unlike cupric sulfates blueish color

@@pipers255 and it seems there's also more cast iron in the system than copper (if any).

HI ,,, what would cause steam to blow out of the pipe quick vent ??? thx

    • @gordonschweizer5154

It depends, but it is likely the vent has failed in the open position. See if you can replace it with a Gorton vent.

@@gordonschweizer5154 u have a Hoffman 75 now...if I get a Gorton #2 would that speed up the radiators ??..is it worth the 200 to replace a good Hoffman 75??

@@EdPlucinski It has been shown by empirical evidence that a Gorton #2 vent will release at least 3x more air at a given low pressure (oz/in2) than a Hoffman #75.
In other words, it will take 3 Hoffman #75s on a manifold to equal one Gorton #2.
When you factor that in, a Gorton #2 is a bargain.
And they last longer than a Hoffman #75, too.

@@gordonschweizer5154 TY .so I take the answer is yes the Gorton 2 will get the radiators hot faster??

@@EdPlucinski All things being equal (and they not always are), the Gorton will release more air and allow your radiators to heat quicker.
