What Apple advertised this for doesn't justify the $3500 price point.
In its current state, it's an AR development kit that gets eclipsed by even the iPhone in terms of usability and sensibleness.

I think the Vision is cool, but it's dumb. Having a magical floating screen doesn't help anything, it doesn't improve anything, and being hands free is not all that useful when you have a screen floating in front of you. It's not like you'll be making ships in bottles while you do your taxes. And, if you can't put your screen down long enough go get food, then you have a much bigger problem than this doofy little headset can solve. But, again, this thing is objectively cool.

The price is justified when you consider it's effectively like 2 iPads miniaturized and crammed together into a thick glasses kit with a crap-ton more sensors. With all that being said, I still think this is a product no one is actually going to buy at this stage.

Sorry but I already know exactly what the purpose of the face scanning is. It's to sell or use the face scans to train AI how to better tell people apart, probably for military use like enabling drones to better target enemies for elimination, as well as give them the ability to use your face in advertising _and_ teach AI how to create brand new faces that don't actually exist, but more accurately and realistically (without needing a human to create the detailed face model). None of which is a _good_ thing.

I think a $2500 price tag is more appropriate and they'd still make a nifty profit at that price. Tim Cooke has lost the plot and has got to go PRONTO!!! He lacks all creativity and is only looking to increase his departure bonus by several million dollars and it's going to tank Apple's Computer division! HOW ABOUT? They release iMacs that actually allow you to upgrade memory yourself and quite making machines that ship with less than 32GB of RAM??!?!? IT'S 2023 FFS!!!!
As for the Vision Pro… WAAAAAY TOO EXPENSIVE and WAY TOOOOOO IMPRACTICAL. What MORON wants to walk around with something like this on their head all day long? NO ONE.
As an apple tech for almost 30 years now, I'm the biggest Apple Proponent as you couldn't pay me enough to touch a windows POS long way to nowhere pile of junk, but this is going to go the way of the G4 Cube and will flop. Even at $1,000 it's too expensive BECAUSE of it's impracticality. As a GAMING DEVICE like the Oculus, I can see it succeeding, but Apple is marketing this as a wearable computer which is unnecessary and downright asinine.
Also, what if you wear Glasses??!?!?!!?????!?!?!?!? smh💡

Really sick of the battery life argument as it is just wrong on 2 points:
1st: It's an MR headset that can/will/should be used plugged into a power source MOST of the time. So, compared to literally EVERY other headset that practically *requires* battery life, like the Quest 2, because they are stand alone *gaming* focused headsets, the AVP's purely stand alone content is totally minimal at this point.
2: 2 hour battery life is LITERALLY the industry standard for EVERY stand alone VR headset currently on the market. So the AVP's battery life is by definition, not bad, it's STANDARD. It could be considered bad only if there were a majority of other standalone headsets that have nearly 2 times the battery life, but since there is no such headset in existence, by definition the AVP CANNOT BE BAD.

Apple clearly does not want people “living” in the VR world for whatever reason. The entire presentation was spent showing how this device is NOT isolating or cocooning like a traditional VR set. The price and setting were designed to discourage mass adoption. Apple has reached as far as they can go with their hardware and software their engineers. This event was introducing the Vision Pro to the world’s engineers to take it to the next level.

Apple is late to the AR game. Microsoft announced hololens all the way back in 2016, so I was hopping that apple would do what they do best, and perfect an existing concept. but they haven't really done anything innovative with VisionPro. AR seems like the perfect tool for 3d modeling, and I've been waiting for years for someone to make an AR 3d modeling application. That would sell people on the concept of AR, and that it's not just a gimmick, but instead, Apple's just showcased another device to watch movies on. The hardware is impressive, but the software needs a lot of work before it's anything more that a really expensive toy, which is what hololens was.

  • @alsoulmusic
    @alsoulmusic Рік тому

This is a classic chicken or the egg scenario. You could wait 3 yrs and have it be small and cheaper and have no software that shows off why you need it or you can release it now and get the develops excited and have them start thinking about how to use this new tech. I for one think that Apple is doing the right thing by releasing now. If this is going the succeed the software is going to lead the way. I don't think that develops can develop leading edge AR apps on a 2D computer screen. You need to be able to figure out the best way to deliver the experience and there isn't a computer in the world that is going to translate that as well as having the actual device. Because of this head start there will be killer apps available when the light version arrives. Apple is going to take a financial hit for this but I think it is for the best. As far as the glorified iPad remark, every thing the derives from a computer is a gloried computing device. I like to focus on how these devices change how you interact with a computer. What kind of experiences can you have that can not be duplicated on any other apple device.

The thing is the Vision Pro is for professional and enthusiast level as the 1st gen. the competition that has the comparable tech the Vision is half the price of the Varjo XR3, and integration with software is far better, additionally as a sound engineer is I were to get the monitors equivalent to the size the vision pro can offer, while also enabling me to control my ipad and iphone in the same space, while editing in a serene environment can really be inspirational.. this is a declutterer for working from home. Giving developers time to adapt their apps is a great idea, as clearly the hardware seems pretty polished already. For companies already using this tech like the Hololens, Apple makes it more integrated and accessible for professionals and rich people, while still being a good deal compared to the competition. I would love to use this as a performer and dj because I can use the vision pro instead of the laptop being in the way. I would love to have an app to make different things display on the front screen. Also Mac Pro is a stop gap while they try figure out an innovative way of integrating PCIE, while leveraging the small form factor of apple silicon.

i think you are literally insane to say that price is justified. it is literally a MacBook air with with eye tracking and an extra external display most other headsets can already do this including the new PSVR. it is a $1500-2000 product at most and i don't get why everyone in tech is trying to say that price is justified when it isn't in any universe.

The thing no one in the Tech Community wants to admit is that no one outside the Tech Community actually wants VR. Apple knows it & you can tell cuz they did everything they could to avoid saying the words “VR” or “Virtual Reality.”

Even in the tech community, I myself haven't been moved enough to want to try out VR. Apple is late to the party, but wants to use its name and tech to leverage it to the public - which has worked in the past, but I'm just not sure with this product.

@@ThereMayBeLions agreed. Don’t get me wrong, the tech they demonstrated really does look groundbreaking. But… Eh? Okay, 3D videos of wonderful moments with my family sounds awesome! Wearing a clunky headset while I’m hanging out with my family on the off chance I want to grab a 3D video? Not so much.
