I actually worked at one of the (if not the) first Goodwill Computer Store at the corporate office in Santa Ana about 14 years ago. People would donate whole PCs that just had a bad video card or power supply. Actually built myself a pretty sweet quad core system with parts that came in.

0:50 Hold the phone, Austin. That takes me back years ago. That name was notorious, back in the good ol' days in the Philippines. Still is.
Always had a reputation for selling the cheapest stuff, although of course at the cheapest quality. Some stuff of theirs I've hold on to actually still work, though. Surprisingly. A battery charger and an 8GB USB drive.
Cheapness runs through their very core, their business started by selling just tons and tons of CD-R discs as a bundle for real cheap. Whether they worked as a gamble, of course, but it was cheap enough and reliable... enough that people just ate it up.
Don't actually know the circumstances of their downfall, but it seems their business model at the end wasn't sustainable.
2:39 We actually were just given a massage slipper like that by someone in the family. Without watching, I can already anticipate what you're gonna say once you try it on. Bless you.
Edit: You LIKED IT? Good for you. Walking around on ours was torture. (for me)

The W540 Thinkpad is STILL a viable, usable laptop today. It came out in 2013/4 actually...max 32gigs of RAM and it could be spec'd with an Nvidia NVS2100M gpu with 2GB of RAM. It also could have a 2.5k lcd panel. I use mine everyday and with an SSD, it conquers all. Absolute steal at $170 and with the top specs, they sell for over $400 all day.

CD-R King is a chain or stores in the Philippines selling rebadged cheap electronics and accessories from China. The name comes from how they started selling blank optical media, specifically, CD-Rs, back in the early 2000s.
Their business has been contracting due to online shopping becoming a thing down here (the dumb part is they sell electronics...and somehow didn't adapt to this?! no it wasn't the lockdowns, they've been declining for months before those), so it's not unlikely that some of their canceled orders ended up getting sold elsewhere online.

I've been to Goodwill (and some local charity thrift) stores in my major metropolitan midwestern area and there's hardly anything actually tech related.
Specifically went in looking for monitors (one of the few tech things they do have) and the best I've found are from around 2013, and they're all in trash condition, scratched up, marked up screens, covered in a decade+ of filth, no power cables. They're like $10-15, untested.

Oh my God. The first keyboard was a CD-R King?! It's a brand here in the Philippines. They are mostly known for very VERY cheap electronics and peripherals. Before e-commerce was a thing here, that's where you get electronics and peripherals if you're really on a budget. You can even buy super tinny earphones here for 1 USD.
They have a 1 Week warranty and some of their products last 1 day after the warranty period. LOL.
It's just very nostalgic because the brand dwindled down ever since e-commerce boomed here in The Philippines. They did not catch up and as of my knowledge, they don't have as much branches anymore as before.

ps3 phats are expensive because of the backwards compatibility with ps2 and ps1 like you guys mentioned. There is only 1 or 2 models of phat ps3 that are hardware compatible with most ps2 and ps1 games, some models use software emulation and have less compatibility, and the slims only have one or the other i think.

I use one of those partial keyboards (and a mouse) with my gaming laptop. Especially when I am somewhere with a good TV or which has a "free" monitor it's awesome. Gaming on a laptop keyboard is passable but not great. The fact that those keyboards are small yet have full sized keys is great. Also - you want it to be membrane because mechanical keyboards are pretty heavy and less "flexible" - which means when you fit them into the front pocket of your computer bag it is more likely to cause damage to other stuff like your mouse, headset - or worse - laptop - and it makes the bag heavier and more cumbersome.
So yeah compared to my main computers mechanical keyboard it's trash - however for mobile gaming it's AWESOME! 😀

    I paid 60 dollars(Canadian) for a PS3 Slim.
Hearing that they're going for those prices is hilarious, and proof people are easy to scam.

I have found some good deals at the local university surplus center. You can pick up some of the PCs they used in labs for under $100, easily. I have used some for Plex servers, and other things, but some will be decent enough to get started with for gaming. Of course, you have to find a GPU... But I had a friend find a 4th gen i5 with 8Gb of ram and a 1Tb HDD 4-5 years ago, and he just had to through a new SSD and GPU in it to start gaming. I also recommended he get a new PSU, since the prebuilts weren't great. You can also pick up cheap monitors, so you can find some good deals, on occasion. But, YMMV.

Its a pitty stuff like this is basically not a thing in Australia. Charity shops basically don't touch anything that's electrical because the cost to make sure its all safe (and legal to sell and compliant with all the necessary regulations) can't be justified by a charity.
