    This type of training may not get you a Men’s Health cover, but for rupturing opponents livers, it’s second to none 👌

      @geraldtraveller9804 Yates trained to absolute musuclar failiure with slow reps, Rutten leaves a lot of reps in the tank and prioritized explosiveness

    more reps build endurance , more weight builds strength. in MMA you need a little bit of both. depends on your weight division.

    • @chrono8233
      @chrono8233 Рік тому +7

      The better technique you have the less strength is required. Martial arts is about technique. That's why someone like Gracie could defeat Giants. Strength can come handy if your technique is lacking. But technique should be a priority over strength. Also you want sport specific strength. Weight training is not a substitute for grappling strength. If you want to be a strong grappler then grapple often.

    • @comanchedase
      @comanchedase Рік тому +1

      Strength can come in the volume, lighter weights and more reps. Heavy weights build muscle and volume but not endurance.

    so do you understand my point.. i mean ive been thinking about this and what i notice in my classes, which im sure are no different from anyone elses. is that we do loads of body weight exercises, which are high rep of course. so then by going into the gym and doing more high rep i cant see much point. doing low rep can give variation to work out programes and also increase strength and power

    no actually, low heavy reps is better for power, and higher but lighter reps is for gaining muscel ! Besides, 22 reps is way to many for chest press or bicep curls or triceps....once uv hit 12-15 reps, one shud definately increase weight

    thats what i was thinking. the only reason i could think of was for the hammer curls if u do 24 then both arms get an equal work out as a pose to 25 or 23 where one arm would get one more rep then the other lol!

    he should be focusing of free weight functional exercises. id also suggest doing low reps, heavy weights as with any decent mma gym you will be doing tons of push-ups, pull-ups and other body weight exercises which are inevitably high rep. so doing more high reps with wieghts seems pointless to me. might as well work on explosive power. and using machines is for bodybuilders, not functional athlets. if anyone has a good reason for high rep machine based training for mma please reply

  • @mizzike16
    @mizzike16 16 років тому +1

    His way of lifting weight is beneficial for MMA. When do you use an isolated muscle for what he does? Literally never. You put your whole body into each motion. That's probably why he puts all his body into each lift. From a medical standpoint it's "bad for you", but I don't recall him ever having any injuries from his weight lifting, and I "cheat" as they call it, and I've never had an injury, and I don't warm up/stretch either. Be different, you'll get different results.

      @GooseF7 8 років тому +16

      +ThatGreenHairGuy cause he does high intensity exercises which isolate biceps and triceps on a daily basis.
      Plus hes a very explosive guy who trains with full power every time.
      Actually he talks exactly about that mistake in joe rogans podcast and he wishes he would have known it better.
      Same for his knees by the way - zero cartilage. Has to walk down his carway backwards.

      Fighting is a fighters main thing weights is just a side workout for fighters worrying about what bar to use or what machine to use isnt going to win you a fight but doing activities that target muscles and muscles only (done with mostly machines) and not the nervous system will help with proper recovery to aid in training
