I love the fact you mentioned the uncomfortable fabric issue. I'm allergic to wool so winter fashion tends to be "I would love that but I can't wear that" to me at times. Luckily, there are options nowadays and I can find cute and warm clothes. I just need to be careful with materials.
It's a shame better quality clothes nearly always have wool in them. I found a wool free jumper recently, which came with a warning label that pilling was a normal feature of the fibre it was made from. I suspect it won't wear and wash well.
I think the rule of 80-90% of your wardrobe should be basic classic pieces the other 10-20% should be trend pieces or special pieces to keep your wardrobe fresh ❤
I’d also suggest getting rid of colours you feel just really blah in. I look terrible and sickly in light yellow and lemon hues as well as true coral, because they look awful with my light blonde hair and skin tone. However, I feel just fine wearing bright deep gold yellows, bright orange and peachy toned pinks. It doesn’t mean you can’t wear a particular colour at all, oftentimes one just has to find the right hue or shade. Great vlog Audrey.
That's so funny, I've just recently discovered I CAN wear lemon yellow! After years of thinking I couldn't wear any yellow near my face at all. And I really like it! It isn't my most flattering colour ever, but it looks good, feels like me and sparks joy and sometimes that's all that matters :) Have you looked into colour seasons at all? I wonder which season you'd fall into...
@@frangipanisandgirl I’m a warm winter, despite my fair complexion (I have dark brown almost black eyes). So jewel tones and a number of intense brights suit me best. I still wear pastels in summer in the right hues. I don’t have forbidden colours, just have to find the right intensity, as you did with lemon. It’s lovely when you find the right one. I’m lucky I can also wear black near my face. 😀
I also want to add one more: any clothes that don’t bring you any pleasure (clothes that relate to a bad memory). We should feel good about ourselves when wearing our clothes, if they can’t, then they should be removed from our wardrobe.
Hi Audrey! I totally can relate to getting too much into building your perfect capsule wardrobe and missing out on the fun of dressing up 😅 This video has inspired me to look for the balance! P.S. your all-white look is absolutely gorgeous 😍
I adore the feminine style of Sezane jumpers but after purchasing several, I learned that my skin is sensitive to the polyamide that is in the fabric composition. Now I am very careful only to wear jumpers made of cashmere, cotton or merino wool. Such a timely video, Audrey as January is the perfect time to rethink our wardrobes.
@@mireille1594 If her skin doesn't like this fabric, even long-sleeved top underneath won't be enough, because there will a bit of the sweater at cuffs or neckline that still touch your skin.
I have sensitive skin, and I had to come to terms with the fact that wool and even cashmere just do not work for me. I wanted to like them for so long, because they're great, high-quality natural fibers that work well in winter. I had multiple of these sweaters and just...never...wore them. Now, I wear chunky cotton knits, which work for my style while still keeping me sufficiently warm. I've also gotten rid of all my heels, with the exception of a chunky heeled ankle boot, since flat shoes feel better and are healthier for my feet and ankles.
I wonder too about things you don't love. I have a few totally reasonable, classic pieces but I bought them more because I thought I should - after watching loads of "essential wardrobe pieces" videos, e.g., the world's most boring navy, v-neck pullover. There's absolutely nothing wrong with them, but they don't spark much joy and I'm seeing now that I could have held out for more pieces with a tad more interest. Oh well, I've definitely taken inspiration from Audrey's tips on scarves and jewellery to give my outfits a bit more oomph!
I love my version of “…the world’s most boring navy v-neck pullover”. 😂 So much so, I also have a navy cashmere crew and a navy wool/cashmere oversized crew. Viva la difference!
Yes - great thinking ! I've sizes 4-6-8 & S-M-L ( US sizing ) in my closet & thankfully have found a couple sources that " run true " for me personally that I can confidently buy w/ out trying on .
I've found that to be an issue for myself - wearing uncomfortable clothes because I refused to try one size up. So dumb. Every brand is different. Pay no attention to that number!
Audrey, thank you for adding some methods of cleaning to this video. I appreciated it, as it helps us take better care of the items we already have. Would you please make additional videos with emphasis on how & when you clean your clothes & how you store them-- shoes & boots included. Thanks
Been following you for years and can definitely see the transformation in your style. I think finding and then dressing for your Kibe body type made a big difference. I wish you would spend more time talking about how this has influenced what you buy and how you style it. Just showing me a blouse or pants is a missed opportunity of showing me why behind the choice. This is not a criticism, just a desire to learn from you because I consider your transformation a success. Thank you.
I think it's time to declutter again. I would like to see a video done again, on how to decide what to get rid of. My closets are packed and I have gone through them a few months ago, but I can clearly see it's time to do it again. I am trying to be more thoughtful on purchases. I definitely know that any sweater with mohair or angora is too itchy for me. Besides, I live in the desert and there is so little need for that type of garment. You are so good at what you do. Have a wonderful week!
I have decided to clean out my closet and do a wardrobe reset. It's been quite difficult when I think about the money "wasted" on clothing that just doesn't suit my personal style. Shopping on a whim has stopped. The focus is now on specific intent or purpose.
We all have " wasted " money on items ! So , perhaps re-sale or donate - both can help us feel better about our mistakes , turning them into positives .
Yes.💯 agree. It so important to have only clothes that align with your personality! I donted and still donate clothes that I don't feel wearing anymore which is great as again by doing that we creating an optimal closet which dress up in the morning become easier and fun!
This was helpful! I need to do a try-on session with all of my shoes and get rid of 1. Uncomfortable shoes/ones that rub or cause blisters and 2. Ones that I can't wear anymore due to my bad knees (high heels, platforms that are too hard to walk in). I have some very cute heels but it's just too risky to wear them now, and it's a bitter reminder about my health issues when I see them sitting unused.
Thank you for the reminder about the basics. I was so caught up in building a capsule and became extremely bored with my wardrobe. You look stunning today. Your hair is so beautiful and the top you are wearing is extremely flattering on you.
Hi Audrey, I love all the outfits you pulled together for this video! I especially love that white/cream outfit. Thanks for the inspiration! You have beautiful purses that are also functional. It would be great to see a video on how you style them ! 👠❤️🇨🇦
Hey! I would really like a garment care video! I think it's so important to take great care of the items you already own... I have watched your videos for about 4 years and I have really loved your content through the years! ❤👌👍👗👕👖
My favorite thing to do is re-dye faded cottons. I recently had a lovely cotton rubbed black turtleneck on its last legs, fading into a sun burnt black almost, and then redyed it black. I’m so happy with it, it’s totally revived the piece to its original color. The fabric has held up and looks crisp, just the color was fading. I’m glad clothing dye exists on the market TBH it’s really saved a lot of my clothes many times.
I really appreciate your advice about not keeping clothes that you can’t take care of, cause i feel a lot of “influencers” are always recommending silk everything and for me and my hiperhidrosis (excessive sweating 😅) it’s really a stress to wear material that i can’t properly wash🤍
Hi Audrey! I think what’s coming out of all this is that we realize that our fashion and style is really more organic and we have to think a little less about it than overthink it. I think that’s what brings us to be the slave of too many rules… Although there are some aesthetic things that can look really good together, like in art, I think style is so subjective, and so personal… I’m also going to see where you purchased your belt, and that white button down silk blouse! Oh my goodness, gorgeous!
I’ve always loved the feel of cashmere- on my hands, but they really itched! In the last 3 years they quit itching, and now I’m in heaven with some beautiful, comfy sweaters.
I love the soothing sound of your voice along with the wardrobe wisdom that you share. Would love to learn more about the colorful, non basic articles of clothing you've added back to make your wardrobe more exciting!
I came across your channel last year and since then it Changed my perspective of fashion and now I really enjoy getting ready like it enhances my personality . I'm lucky to find you ❤️
Audrey, I've been following your chanel for sometime and it's so refreshing how simple and honest it is! And yet its content is always so relevant and straight to the point! You're lovely and really one of a kind on UA-cam. Btw, as someone pointed out, your all-white outfit is gorgeous and so elegantly put!... Thank you so much for being an inspiration!...
One person's basic is another's dressy occasion wear. Not regretting buying something does not equal it being not fun and monotonous. You hit it on the head when you said "not something anyone anywhere could copy". That's the key. Hint, unscented baby shampoo is great for washing delicates. Just don't use too much.
Thank you for mentioning uncomfortable fabric. Occasionally I still get tempted by a vintage polyester print or "pleather" shoes and regret it every time. These textiles are so awful against the skin and unfortunately getting harder to avoid.
Thank you Audrey for another great video. I actually enjoy an afternoon of de cluttering my closet but I seem to have a problem of donating my accessories, wool/silk scarves, leather handbags. Help us learn when it is time to recycle these gems! Thank you ❤️❤️
I also don’t always want to let go of accessories, even those I rarely use but just like. For me, it has been more satisfying taking those items to a consignment store and, assuming they sell, at least getting something in return for them.
I've got to say...the only items I ever regret decluttering (or losing to humidity in our subtropical climate) are my cool leather belts, clutches and gloves. It's also getting harder to purchase quality silk and finely-spun or woven wool, too - my advice is to hold on to these items. They're gems, as you say - so technically don't count as "clutter" ;-)
I 💯 agree that we need to be true to ourselves, listen and wear only clothes that make us feel good, confident and empowered! You know, when we look at your reflection in the mirror and you really appreciate it, you think to yourself oh yes, I'm looking amazing!!
I like your tip about hand washing clothes. I find with my cashmere outer layer, I can get away with only having them cleaned once or twice a year. Plus my dry cleaner does a great job de-pilling the sweater. That always makes them look fresh. fresh.
I just wanted to add on to clothing care; If you are like me and hate hand washing sweaters, there are counter top options for washer machines that you can use for delicate garments like sweaters and silks. I haven’t personally used them as I’m low on funds, but I know that is a middle version between hand washing and delicate machine washing.
Thanks for the content you share with us. I’m learning a lot with you. By the way you hair looks fabulous lately. Would you make a video about your current hair care routine? I’d love it!
~I noticed in the frames of you wearing the Paris t-shirt that you look very pretty in that makeup. ~I think I feel more settled watching you speak when the French door behind you is shut all the way. ~I noticed first in the white pants, and then in the blue jeans when you’re speaking, that you left the belt loops unfilled. Somehow this didn’t sit right with me; I know that fashions come & go, but this old lady (I) now remembers my mother saying that if a garment has belt loops, it needs a belt. I disregarded that until now, when I see what she must have seen. I know, too, that one may be striving for the one long line, thinking, therefore, that a belt undermines that attempt. Nevertheless, the sight of empty loops now looks undone, to me. I thought perhaps a gold chain belt might work for the white outfit. And of course a black leather belt for the blue jeans w/black top. Ah, well, just one of those style or fashion things, I suppose. After all, I used to wear holes in my jeans… not something I prefer now…
Thank you! I always enjoy your content. Now I'm beginning to think about what really works for me and brings me joy rather than following wardrobe essentials advice. ✨️ 🌸
I have learned a lot from you about buying quality instead of quantity. I use more natural fibers now and know to take care of them so they last. Thank you.
Good advice. Especially the point about clothes that are painful, or at least uncomfortable, to wear. At a consignment store I found a fabulous pair of leopard print pumps, my size, from the high-end “red-soles” company. They were great - for about 10 minutes. I think I wore them twice before I realized why they’d been consigned. Definitely the most uncomfortable pair of shoes I have ever worn. I hope they work for the next gal who picks them up at the charity shop.
A lot of these tips are something that I'm trying to become more mindful of whenever I make a purchase for my wardrobe, and I'm a huge contender for not buying things that I can't take care of! Thank you for sharing these valuable insights, Audrey! ❤️❤️
Hi, Audrey! Love your videos. You mentioned at some point (I can't recall in which video) that barrel jeans can be flattering on petites. I would love to see how you style them, as I picked up a few pairs recently. I know it's a very niche request, so I understand if you're not able to address it in your upcoming content. Thank you for providing such wonderful insights and information in all of your videos.
I have a large covered laundry basket in the back of my walk-in closet that I use as a clothing "purgatory." Like you suggest, I leave things I'm not sure about there for maybe 6 months to a year and either reincorporate the items or give them away. I find it's better for me then trying to pressure myself to make the decision right away.
Oh these are such good tips and have me thinking I need to go thru another closet culling! I sometimes find myself in a corporate setting and need to wear suits. I have a couple of blouses that I don’t really like but because of their color and utility, I have kept them. But I NEVER reach for them! It’s time they go in the giveaway bag and hopefully make someone else happy. Thanks for always having such well thought out ideas!
To have a good basic capsule can be the starting point to fashion. To find the extraordinary love pieces that enhances one’s style maybe for years is the fun in it. 😉 P.S.: and for shoes: There are a lot of helping ad ons, e.g. silicone pads to improve comfort. I‘ll never give up my KL boots😂

Please do summer styling videos it is so hot and humid where I live and it is approaching by April😫, and I have been really enjoying buying autumn/winter clothes.
If you find loving something in your closet after 20 or 30 years it is most likely because it was really well made but also unique, not because of was “basic”. I’m glad that more people are starting to realise this and searching for quality in design as well as manufacturing.
Dear Audrey, I love your videos. As an idea for new ones, I would love to learn more from you about summer and vacation wardrobes and capsules. I live in a state where there is no winter ;) Thank you so much!
I noticed that the notion of Capsule Wardrobes took off during the pandemic. Now are all stuck with a boring wardrobe, lol. I cannot do a capsule, because I find it too restricting. I agree with you re: getting rid of clothing, shoes, etc, that no longer serves you!
I used to try fight the urge of a capsule wardrobe and basics. I know basics are great. But when having a few unique pieces allows one to use fashion as expression. Once I stopped following those trends and embraced my style, people noticed. I’m glad that we’re going away from the homogenous look.
lol @ maybe I don't love it in 30 years. I also got caught up in basics and finding the perfect clothing. The result was decision fatigue and I quit shopping for a while. I'm thinking of creating a uniform of sorts to make it easier.
Fashion is really an individual thing! I love my basics as well as bold, bright colorssss! It's high time people stop giving the blanket statement that neutrals are the best! They are but so are colourful, bright pieces! Period!
Hey Audrey, curious to know if you have any tips for those who may fluctuate in weight? Quite often I can find myself between two sizes or not wanting to let go of certain pieces in the event that I shed a few pounds/kilos.
I love this video! A good reminder that even though we loved it 2-3years ago we dont have to like it now. I just realized I hate half of my clothes because they are past the point of being de-pilled or make me feel frumpy . Another thing I'm fighting with is the other half of my wardrobe makes me feel like I'm too boring and conservative in preparation to impress future clients when I like clothes with a little edge motorcycle or rock n roll . if dress too conservative i feel like I'm playing dress up in my moms clothes. I also like rockabilly too. Finding my real style has been hard but I'm slowly getting and idea how to mix the styles I like

Thank you so so much! ❤❤❤
Have you tried to wear a thin t-shirt or camisole underneath?
The white shirt that wore with the white pants is so adorable! I'm obsessed with it.
Thanks for your top tips. I love your voice too - I could definitely see you doing ASMR! 💙
Also, I have stopped focusing on the size versus how the article of clothing flatters my figure.
Thanks
Great idea!
Thank you.
Thank you so much! I actually don’t use kibbe to decide on clothes :) I can absolutely discuss my reasoning behind clothes and outfits more ❤️
I think it's time to declutter again.
@@cynthiajohnston424 yes! That's the plan. I am looking for a great local women's charity too. Helping others makes me happy. 💜
Yes.💯 agree. It so important to have only clothes that align with your personality! I donted and still donate clothes that I don't feel wearing anymore which is great as again by doing that we creating an optimal closet which dress up in the morning become easier and fun!

This was helpful!
I need to do a try-on session with all of my shoes and get rid of
1. Uncomfortable shoes/ones that rub or cause blisters and
2. Ones that I can't wear anymore due to my bad knees (high heels, platforms that are too hard to walk in). I have some very cute heels but it's just too risky to wear them now, and it's a bitter reminder about my health issues when I see them sitting unused.
Thank you for saying it's ok to get rid of things.
Thank you for the reminder about the basics. I was so caught up in building a capsule and became extremely bored with my wardrobe. You look stunning today. Your hair is so beautiful and the top you are wearing is extremely flattering on you.
The key for success is the balance between 6good foundation of basics and quick items to maximize your wardrobe!!
Hi Audrey, I love all the outfits you pulled together for this video! I especially love that white/cream outfit. Thanks for the inspiration! You have beautiful purses that are also functional. It would be great to see a video on how you style them ! 👠❤️🇨🇦
🥰❤️❤️
Hey! I would really like a garment care video! I think it's so important to take great care of the items you already own... I have watched your videos for about 4 years and I have really loved your content through the years! ❤👌👍👗👕👖
She did one a year or two ago.
Yes! I have a wardrobe full of classic basics and recently realise I don't have fun "me" pieces. My goal this year is to add in my personal items
I would love an updated vid on how to buy jeans!! Specific body types etc. thanks😊❤
I'm lucky to find you ❤️
How about elevated basics. The basics with a bit more contemporary twist. Need this in my closet, please.
Audrey I usually hate print t-shirts but you look absolutely GORGEOUS with that blue t-shirt!
Your hair looks amazing!
I love all your videos Audrey!
I always look forward to seeing whatever you post! ❤️💜❤️🙌🙌🥰⭐️🕊️
Thank YOU so much for your kindness and for you watching my videos! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@AudreyCoyne your soothing voice and self-style truly informative videos what more could we want?! 💐 waiting for the next one!💐
One person's basic is another's dressy occasion wear. Not regretting buying something does not equal it being not fun and monotonous. You hit it on the head when you said "not something anyone anywhere could copy". That's the key. Hint, unscented baby shampoo is great for washing delicates. Just don't use too much.
That look all off white was gourgeous on you! I agree with some tips and I miss some colors in yours looks. Too much black and jeans.
Your hair looks amazing! Thank you for guiding me!!!
Thank you for mentioning uncomfortable fabric. Occasionally I still get tempted by a vintage polyester print or "pleather" shoes and regret it every time. These textiles are so awful against the skin and unfortunately getting harder to avoid.
Polyester print !!!!
So nice to hear your unique personal advice. You're video was beautiful as well. I may just go through my closet today with these tips in mind.
Yes! This is growth, maturity, reflection! 💐💐💐
I 💯 agree that we need to be true to ourselves, listen and wear only clothes that make us feel good, confident and empowered! You know, when we look at your reflection in the mirror and you really appreciate it, you think to yourself oh yes, I'm looking amazing!!
Great video! Honest & refreshing!
Can you plz make a video about what to wear when you are above 60 and what not to.Thank you for your videos very inspiring
I keep some worn-out clothes in my "rag pile" that I keep for heavy house cleaning, painting, and yard work.
After all, I used to wear holes in my jeans… not something I prefer now…
Yes! I now have permission to get rid of clothes that are uncomfortable! Thank you!
That white shirt with the puffy sleeves is absolutely stunning 😍 where did you get it?
Thank you! I always enjoy your content. Now I'm beginning to think about what really works for me and brings me joy rather than following wardrobe essentials advice. ✨️ 🌸
oooh please don't remove your old videos - they are wonderful to watch and to see and appreciate your journey.
White on white with jagged edge denim is fab. And is that a new little black bag? Love it!
Love Audrey’s whole look in this video.
I have learned a lot from you about buying quality instead of quantity. I use more natural fibers now and know to take care of them so they last. Thank you.
Your white blouse is 😍
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!
you're my calming fix for the day.
Audrey, your quality is great! Thank you. Pete
A lot of these tips are something that I'm trying to become more mindful of whenever I make a purchase for my wardrobe, and I'm a huge contender for not buying things that I can't take care of! Thank you for sharing these valuable insights, Audrey! ❤️❤️
Happy New Year Audrey! Thank you for these helpful tips!!
I would love a video of the pieces in your wardrobe that are not basics! 😊
Hi Audrey, absolutely love your videos. Perhaps I’ve missed it, but if you have a video on how to hand wash or dry cleaning alternatives for clothing and the products you use would be so helpful!
I loved this video, the next time I reorganized my closet, I plan to use your suggestions and ideas to make some decisions! Thank you, I always enjoy your channel. The time just seems to fly by.😊❤
Please do summer styling videos it is so hot and humid where I live and it is approaching by April😫, and I have been really enjoying buying autumn/winter clothes.
If you find loving something in your closet after 20 or 30 years it is most likely because it was really well made but also unique, not because of was “basic”. I’m glad that more people are starting to realise this and searching for quality in design as well as manufacturing.
You look great in the white outfit love it!!!!! I think its great to add fun to your closet .
Thank You.
Thank you. Great tips. Thank you.
Thank you!
What a wonderful idea!
I used to try fight the urge of a capsule wardrobe and basics. I know basics are great. But when having a few unique pieces allows one to use fashion as expression. Once I stopped following those trends and embraced my style, people noticed. I’m glad that we’re going away from the homogenous look.
Such wisdom with a delightful presentation!
You calm me and love hearing your voice!
Thank you!🌹
lol @ maybe I don't love it in 30 years.
Thanks you for this video! I would love to see an updated one of the deep winter wardrobe.
Finding my real style has been hard but I'm slowly getting and idea how to mix the styles I like
Love your tips!
I love high waisted pants and jeans. It's past time to reorganize my closet. Just need a little inspiration. Thanks 😊
