I'm so happy to have found your channel! I'm currently considering moving back to Australia to study psychology after spending my 20s in Europe. I'm going to binge watch all your videos as I've got no idea what uni life in Australia is like (I've already done an undergrad but that was completely online). Also, I don't think I really know what I'd be getting into by taking the psychology path, so hopefully your videos will help me with the decision-making process :) Thanks!
awesome i'm happy to hear you're coming back and europe sounds amazing! feel free to suggest any videos you'd like to personally see or further comments :) but yeah, psychology degree is a pretty broad path in my opinion, you can do anything from teaching to being a psychologist or researcher or even HR in a company (depending on what master's you do). good luck!
I've worked at a University - many lecturers don't truly consider "Lecture Teaching" part of their job - their job being to manage and conduct research at a post graduate level. In the past, universities had dedicated "Teaching Fellows" who would handle the bulk of undergraduate teaching - Costs have been cut, fees have been increased - you basically have to depend on your own initiative and hope you have the mental fortitude to brave the stress/workload/existential pressures - great video and a LOAD of great advice and insights
This was a really nice comment to read so thanks for posting! I had a sneaking suspicion that many lecturers didn't consider the teaching part of their job (at least from my experience in undergrad). so this was good to hear
Hello! I found this video very helpful :) I am 30 years old and have just enrolled in a Grad Dip of Psychological Science at Deakin Online, as i have already completed a Bachelor of Business after graduating high school. The idea about actively making new friends and networking was really interesting to me, as i too am an introvert. I will spend some time reflecting and exploring how i can hit the ground running in March by perhaps joining some groups and making contact with fellow students who are also studying online. Some goods tips to think about! Thanks again, and i wish you absolute success in whatever you end up pursuing
Hey I’m glad you found this useful! I think that’s a great idea and remember to frequently see groups/potential friends if you can. I found it a bit difficult initially because there were pre-existing friend groups and I felt a little isolated but over time by showing up somewhat regularly, people warmed up and the rest is history :) good luck and have fun
I'm in my first year of college, and I'm attending a rigorous accredited online college. As you mentioned, I'm having trouble organizing my time and adjusting to the autonomous thinking that comes with college. I, too, want to be a psychologist, but I'm not sure if it's the correct path for me. I am fascinated by how the mind and behavior interact, I do think I am on the right path since I love observing body language and other areas of psychology. I agree with you; I'm beginning to learn that, while academics are brilliant thinkers, they're terrible teachers. Another issue is making relationships; it's more difficult when your entire class is online, my online college creates a sense of community for even a current students like myself.
I wished I watched your video before I started my bachelors in psychology. After 1 semester I realised that I really needed to change how I study since I usually revise last minute.

Back home in Russia, you studying 5 years straight and it gives you a title "specialist" its about 8000 hours . (bachelor is 4 years) and then you go to "magistrature" which is what like masters, but you can start working after 5 years of studies . Its still no licensed thou.
I am only in 7th grade and have being exposed to multiple opportunities and a variety of career fields that I can pursue my passions into have really been overwhelming. Thank you so much for this! As a high school student that lives in Australia but came from a different country, I had no idea how university was going to be. Since I want to study psychology as well, it kinda sucks that some teachers are not very enthusiastic because I was thinking of going to Melbourne uni. If you’re okay with it I was wondering what ATAR you got since I’m kind of nervous about not being accepted, thank you so much ☺️☺️
Aw this comment made my day. I’m actually so happy I was able to make things clearer for you cos I honestly was so clueless and didn’t do any research going in. Ok so to answer your questions i got a 98.90 star (IB converted), BUT star honestly means JACK S*** in Uni - nobody talks about it, nobody cares about it (which totally surprised me). So I would recommend not putting too much stress on that, do ur best and do ur research on the minimum atar requirements to get in!! I’m not sure what it is anymore (cos it changes yearly) but when I got into melb it was like 85? But please please please keep ur options open. I have heard great things about deakin’s psych course - it’s less about the prestige of the uni and the actual course structure and teachers!! The prestige is a trap I fell for, but that being said if ur sight is set on melb uni defs try for it but make sure to not overlook the other unis
@@psyched4life924 any idea about the psychology courses offered in USyd and UNSW ? Like the course structure and stuff you mentioned? P.S. 98.90 ??? U ACED THAT SHIT.

We have a straight pathway with the 4 year option however if you don't keep a GPA of above 5.75 you fail to meet the fourth year criteria and only graduate with the 3 year undergrad. (Griffith uni)

I was wondering if you knew where we could access any of the textbooks you were talking about or any that you remember to be referenced a lot/helpful. or maybe there is a list available of textbooks required if not, nothing to worry about im just trying to get ahead, i find psychology very interesting :) thank you!!!
hey! i dont have any specific books to recommend because the uni i went to all the subjects covered the basic foundations so nothing to stress about. also each uni slightly differs instead of books i would recommend crash course psychology on youtube as there are quite a few parallels with the course there imo
Hi! I’m thinking of taking a double degree in psychology and criminology, I was wondering if you know any people who have took that course and if it is worth it?😅
Hey! I have a friend who majored in criminology and she quite liked it. She currently works for the government doing youth justice policies. I took a couple of breadth classes in that area too. Decent tutors and the content was interesting :) lots of different electives to choose from for that major. Although the tutorials were quiet from my experience and it was a lot of the tutor asking questions and silence haha
Aww I absolutely loved this video :>> it has helped me sooo much! Thank you for sharing!! I was wondering what subjects you took in highschool? and what field of psych are you planning to pursue in the future? I was planning to go to melbourne uni as well, however after hearing that the lectures were ehhh i'm now like ehhhhh HAHHA
Hey!! I’m so happy u found this useful was honestly expecting no one to watch lmao. In high school I did IB, not VCE so things might be different for u! But I did psychology, English, history, French, biology and maths
Funnily u ask me about future plans. I’m actually planning on pursuing clinical psychology/counselling because I’m rlly passionate about youth mental health but things aren’t set in stone. Also as for melb uni don’t take my word as the ultimate truth!! I have friends who love it and have continued to do 4th year. One thing good about the Melbourne model is how flexible it is - they encourage u to take different breadth subjects and u can switch majors. However if u know u 100% wanna do psych, there r unis like Monash that have 4 years course (where getting into 4th yr is a lot easier). I recommend u do a pro and con list and do some research (something I failed at)
I need answers and opinions from others. Should i study psychology since ive watched many criminal psychology videos and it made me feel interested in it and to learn of how the mind works but here in my country psychology major is only up to uni and the only path to pursue it is overseas. So should i take the opportunity to learn it or is it just a waste bcs idk if I'll regret it in the future.
Heyy! This really helped me understand a lot. I'm an international student in year 12 . Nd I'm having thoughts abt doing a dual degree of bach in business nd psychology. Could you tell me if we need to choose specifically if we want to do clinical/counselling psycho etc in the first year itself? Or do we do that after the first 3 years. Also do u think ot would be too much for me to do a double degree nd work part time as well? If i come to aus, I'm gonna have to work, so I'm trynna see if i can balance a dual degree along with working . Phew i wrote you an essay. Sorry😂 please reply , it would be really helpful 👉👈
Haha no worries :) great questions! Check out my video here for more info on the psychology pathways (I go in a lot more detail): ua-cam.com/video/8K1Mh2-6vHk/v-deo.html In regards to a double degree, I don't know too much but I do know someone who did bachelor of commerce and psychology (double degree). Not sure if there would be enough time for a job but I'd assume you would be able to depending on how you balance work and study. I find tutoring jobs tend to be the most flexible with some companies allowing u to take on as many students as u want so maybe u can look into that? If you're still not sure. You can contact student support or the uni directly to ask about the contact hours of a double degree. The contact hours is basically how many hours u learn at school. Good luck!

I also know that psychology interest me because I think it's interesting to know about the way the brain works and all of those sorts of things.
Hey im also interested in psychology. Where are you located. Im also really frustrated about the low amount of payment for the years of effort that we put to learn psychology.
I really really love to be a psychologist! ♡︎♥︎ Since i was little.
I’m stressing to getting my college letters lol and now this video came up. Gave me a good idea of the psychology field. I’m pretty sure I either want to research or work in the military. I think having the military, would help me grow as a person as well as help others.
hey me too!! i'm from canada wbu
I needed this. All the questions I've been asking, THANK YOU! Good luck with your future in psychology!
thanks so much 🥰🥰 glad i could help
Great needed insight, this is one thing missing from most of UA-cam
impressive expression when she said "hopefully"... nice talk anyway
I am a psychology student at ANU, genuine talk.
like the advices!!!
I relate you in whole different. Exactly how I’m confused and the stress about finding correct teachers too
I’m 13 years old and I’m really interested in being a therapist but I’m not sure what they even teach in psychology so I’m watching a ton of vids about it! Thx for the great video
Hey hi , I'm a 13 year old too .... If u don't mind can u tell me did u learn anything abt wat they teach in psychology ?? Coz I started to watch tons of video like this a week ago but still I can't figure out wat do they exactly teach in psychology .....
@@janyllp9519 I had that same feeling. As far as I know they basically teach you about human or animal behaviors and what causes those behaviors. I’m not sure what else they teach since they never give a clear answer on what they actually teach
@@kc1135 oh ok... Thanks alot for replying

This real advice dear. I wish I knew this before starting college. I'm also in the third year and I'm having hard time. God bless you dear🙏
I loved this. It’s very similar to how things are done in South Africa. I would actually love to one day come work over there even if it’s a year.
Oh I didn't know that! That's so interesting :) Are you also studying to be a psychologist?
Psyched 4 Life Yesss. I just completed my masters degree in counseling psychology and waiting to write board exams to become qualified to practice.
That sounds amazing! Best of luck :)
Thank you so much! I’m currently in high school and considering to do psychology at Melbourne University, this is very helpful!!
Glad it was helpful!
Im studying psychology rn. Nice to find out your channel💞

Oooh that's exciting!!! Good luck
I love how I knew who you were talking about re: amazing lecturers
Omg yes hehe 🥰😊
love the way you present it. Very clear and objective
Oh my God this is an incredible video...good work!!!
Aw thank you so much!! I'm glad you found it helpful :)
I wished I watched your video before I started my bachelors in psychology. After 1 semester I realised that I really needed to change how I study since I usually revise last minute.
ohh this helps so much more, im going to melbourne uni after highschool too but im in year 9 right now and im terrified because i just signed up for all these psychology classes for year 10 because i find psychology super interesting, im not sure about what field i want to do yet but im stoked there is stuff i can sorta get a grasp of if i carry this out, i took psychology as a VCE subject as well as sociology (which in hindsight was stupid because im a hugeee introvert) thank you so much :))
I'm in love with your channel. The effort you put into your videos really shows. Consider me subscribed!
Thank you so much!!!

I'm not really sure if I want to be a psychologist or if I should look into my military benefits. I know I have lots of time and it may seem embarrassing but I wanted to expand my awareness on if I did attempt to pursue this major. This video was very helpful, thank you very much!
Im about to finish my year 12 HSC (NSW end of year exam) and graduate and have been planning for the last few months to study in phycology in queensland. Thank you for this video it helped ALOT.
Thank you for telling me about the seventh tip! I'm sure it'll be helpful, especially if I remember to take full advantage of them!
I'm 46 in America. I'm autistic high functioning. I have to work a full time job. Have to. Can't do this 16 hours a week younger students seem to do. I've a lot of setbacks. When I get back to college because I took awhile off I will still be considered freshman for a good while (one class per semester, maybe two classes if I get focused right. Trying for either a BA or BS in psychology, my love is parapsychology and my other interest is neuroscience. Do I think I'll ever reach doctorate? I'm just focused on one thing at a time and still going if for no other reason than to better myself. Yes your video is so relatable. I'm introverted and must pay attention to all the invitations to get together with fellow students. And yes, professors seem to do just textbook. Oh well. There are a few our there I've discovered that make it fun learning. Good luck.
I say do it! 46 is is still young! You have 25+ years before retirement. Get it done, part time is a great idea! Don't give up your dreams!
My goal is to major in forensic psychology and criminal Justice. Maybe a masters in criminology or take a few different post graduate certificates. Thanks for the video!!

Very true, I am in Year 1 for business school, thinking of transferring course. Its's really all TIME MANAGEMENT.
Atar* not star lol
Psyched 4 Life thank you so much!! ☺️☺️
@@psyched4life924 any idea about the psychology courses offered in USyd and UNSW ? Like the course structure and stuff you mentioned?
P.S. 98.90 ??? U ACED THAT SHIT.
@@kazirayyan6811 hey sorry for the late response i didn't see the comment :o firstly thanks! and secondly, no i don't have a clue. I'm assuming psych courses are relatively similar across Australia just because we're meant to be taught similar things in order for the government to accredit the course. However, ur best bet would be to research on reddit and whirlpool to see what current/past students have said about the course
Started off we'll need more facts especially in business psychology

We have a straight pathway with the 4 year option however if you don't keep a GPA of above 5.75 you fail to meet the fourth year criteria and only graduate with the 3 year undergrad. (Griffith uni)

hello! thank you for this video, it was honestly so helpful. I was wondering if you knew where we could access any of the textbooks you were talking about or any that you remember to be referenced a lot/helpful. or maybe there is a list available of textbooks required if not, nothing to worry about im just trying to get ahead, i find psychology very interesting :) thank you!!!
hey! i dont have any specific books to recommend because the uni i went to all the subjects covered the basic foundations so nothing to stress about. also each uni slightly differs
instead of books i would recommend crash course psychology on youtube as there are quite a few parallels with the course there imo

Thank you really !!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
This was helpful!!!! Tysm
The way my eyes are tearing up is very very depressing
I recommend u do a pro and con list and do some research (something I failed at)
@@psyched4life924 YiKes how did I not see your reply.. Wahhh I am doing IB too!! Im doing math studies doe >
@@psyched4life924 Ohhhhh ahhahha~ thank you so much :> I am also thinking about clinical, but also forensic :DD

Check out my video here for more info on the psychology pathways (I go in a lot more detail): ua-cam.com/video/8K1Mh2-6vHk/v-deo.html
In regards to a double degree, I don't know too much but I do know someone who did bachelor of commerce and psychology (double degree).
Good luck!
