I’ve just ordered one. I did look at the H6 but in the long run I think brand value and long term resale will account for the price difference. The Hyundai brand in SA has done very well. With everything else being equal, my priority came down to the load deck with the seats folded down and the Tucson’s is the best in that area.
I actually just said this in my comment on the previous guy comments... what do u get back in the long run? but 1 thing is for sure Haval is priced to sell with all the bells and whistles
Basically you are paying sooo much more for this car , but in the end of the day thinking of resale value for a car is like plotting when one might dump their partner to keep them fresh for the next person they find.... Buy something you will actually enjoy AND use it for all it is worth because everything loses value... is not a painting... If you Love the tucson for what you get then that is why you should buy it... never for resale, I made the resale mistake with so many cars and never got happiness in a car as I had with a car I actually wanted
@@BurnedNerd my opinion exactly as you mentioned it, I see no reason to be a first hand driver of a New Car and then also try to find means and ways of dropping it in the few years to come. That simply means I am not buying for a long hold. The Cherry (7 seater) and the Haval are definitely coming in with a full force and they are really claiming their spot into the Arena forcing the big brands to worry about their pricing - I really do not mind driving the same car for about 10 to 15 years based on reliability and service plan. Comfort is also what I need.
Buying a car for resale is silly because they all lose value. And with Haval becoming so popular, the resale won't be an issue anyway. The car market is in such a state that any second hand car has great resale. The same will apply to Haval. Spending 200k on the Hyundai because of resale is the silliest thing I've heard. Sorry to say.
test driven the h6 and am test driving this one tomorrow. yes the price difference is huge but with the chinese brands, and i have experienced this before with MG (in the Netherlands), it feels like the car is just not built by some one who drives themselves. For example, the H6 has a stop start function, but when it does this, the entertainment system turns off so when you are at a traffic light ,you cant adjust anything. also has material on the inside which just leaves marks everwhere. then it has no volume button or even climate control button except for on the touch screen with a tiny button somewhere on the touch screen, which is super unhandy to use while you are driving. I think this is where the Tuscon shows its better build quality compared to the H6, but will see how it feels when driving it tomorrow :)
Agreed, also loved to Haval H6 and no looking back. You'd swear this Tucson was inspired by the H6, the H6 has more power than both their petrol and diesel variants.
🎉 I'm in the market aswell... want to change from the Caddy to the Jolion full spec... But I just want to basically know what do I get back if I do in future trade???
The interior of the Haval H6 and Chery Tiggo 8 makes this Hyundai look a bit ancient. Also the price makes the Chinese offerings much more appealing. If only they came in diesel. It makes no sense that this is a whole extra car more than the Haval H6 and Chery Tiggo 8. For this price you can get a Haval or Chery and a second small city car.
The term bells and whistles came from the old locomotives and train industry. All engines were named or identifies by the bells and or whistles they came with. The more the better the engine was.
Ever since watching your review of the H6 I can't bring myself to buy any of these other mid-size SUVs for their price when there's a Haval that offers way more for so much affordable price. Not to mention its good looks. This Tucson looks like a combo of RAV4 from the side, Peugeot 3008 from the rear. The interior is pretty nice & the cockpit gives me the Staria vibes. The front, well, not to my taste at all. Outgoing Tuscon still looks much better & if I were to choose between this & the Sportage, the latter is a much better choice. Anyways, Haval H6 you can have my money any day
Let’s say the haval gives you 10l/100km and the hyundai gives 7. You thus save 3l or R66 every 100km. For R200,000 savings, you can thus buy 303 030 km of extra kilometres at current prices.

Thanks for the review! For some reason Mitsubishi is never mentioned in these comparisons (but Mazda is). The issue of slightly longer warranty out the box is a sales gimmick.. yes it's there, but you can easily add 2+ years to most brands for small chance. On a R700,000 car (Hyundai Touscon) you might loose less, like 35% over 3 years, you still lost R250,000. Yes, the remaining R450,000 is almost as much as what the Haval cost new, but you lost the same amount of money. So starting price matter, always. I never get the resale argument (apart from an exceptional scenario when 1 looses like 10% in 3 years and the other like 80%). On top of that, your finance cost (or opportunity cost for cash buyers) are based on R200,000 more. Over 3 years at 10% (on a simple finance cost principle) is another R60,000. And insurance is mainly driven by cost price, so is another R200-R500 pm more.
It’s hypothetical. Just like one does not know about the 35% for the Hyundai. It’s meant to illustrate the point that the resale argument is mute when the starting price is so far apart. And when you also include finance/opportunity cost and insurance in your consideration, you can just not FINANCIALLY, justify the Hyundai.

After 2 BMW X3`s (a petrol and the 3 litre diesel..) back to back I got my wife a Peugeot 3008. It is, simply put, just absolutely great! Just google the number of international car awards that it has received - more than 60 - and I think it has more awards than any other car ...ever. (and do note: my own car is a Porsche ...simply no substitute.. but of course not at this price level)
The Peugeot 3008 is great. It drives so well. Probably the best drive in the segment. I test drove one and was blown away. We have the previous version 2.0 HDI. Tows a caravan like it isn't even attached. Very underrated unfortunately. Unfortunately the pricing doesn't help Peugeot.
I actually though he was reviewing the bottom of the rang model as I saw a review on this a few weeks ago on a UK model and the interior is MUCH better with a larger screen and it doesn't even have a gear lever any longer, just buttons so wonder why they think they can get way with selling this downgraded version of the car here as a premium model.
I worked for Hyundai in 2013/2014 and the IX35 petrol was a complete dog as far as power, going up a hill you ended up gearing down all the way to 1st gear...the turbo diesel however was an absolute torque monster...and was way more expensive than the petrol...they clearly didn`t learn from that mistake...

Cars and computers are just the right type of products to sport these additional features and it comes as no surprise to learn that it is in those technological fields that the phrase originated.
Ciro, Please review the Hyundai Palisade
The new KIA will also come with a PHEV and Hybrid hopefully available in SA.
“Freaked out because there was a car in another province“ 🤣🤣 Really?
Our interior is very different to the Australian one, why ?
Can we have more accurate finance estimates and features on the App please
An estimate cannot be accurate love
There was a car in another province behind you
A bit of work, but pack your current cars boot with your usual holiday goodies and ask the salesman to bring the car to your house to transfer into the new boot to see how big it really is.
Car looks great. Please review the Nissan magnite
Please do the new hyundai Atos
That lap belt on the middle seat is a deal breaker for me. Who in their right mind??
The electronic nanny also sounds very off putting.
Skip.
As usual manufacturers are not bringing hybrid yet . This car has a (self charging) hybrid and a PHEV but the manufacturer thinks it's not a thing for mzansi
Modern Peugeots are absolutely amazing. I feel bad that most people are too stubborn to even consider one just because its not a Toyota or Volkswagen.
So either this or a top of the range mazda 3......I'm taking the Mazda
At the time of filming this video the price of Elite model was R699k
Today (only 6 months later), the price has gone up to R719k lol
Sportage for me
South Africans discovered Haval and now express everything in terms of Havals😂😂my one friend even promoted it while not even setting a foot in one
Lol. But they've made a great name for themselves. They deserve it. They've proven that everything else is overpriced.
Interior looks like a budget Mercedes. You can tell by the digital cluster as well as the layout of the buttons on the steering wheel.
I know what you talking about, it's like they downgraded it for the SA market but kept the same pricing.
I am not a fan of the latest Hyundai styling.
I also don’t understand it. Even with their new i20s completely different from the out-going design…
R700k for a Hyundai 👀 Where did life go so horribly wrong?
A 1.4T Tiguan specced to this level is close to R800k 😎
@@gvr6079 even more horribly wrong then
It's beeping because the passenger door is open.
This is nice
I hate the gear lever, they should have just gave it the staria buttons
Beeping. Singing when you turn off... there's your "bells and whistles". Tsk tsk. 😉
not happy with the tucson corolla cross and jolion will dominate the sector.
Mustang Mach-E Rear
Haval all the way.
It should've been a Hybrid
But is it as tough as the original chick who opens beer bottles with her eye socket?
Buy Ford ranger 2.0 Bi-turbo 4×2 you'll thank me later for that money 💰
Your engines sizes were not detailed at all
The new Tuscon looks ugly...
Il stay with my Everest thank you.
Everests are nice cars. I like your choice
I just can't with the look of this car. Seems so gimmicky and unnecessarily loud.
In the bedroom 😂😂😂😂🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Nice🤭
This is Overpriced. Haval H6 way better with spec and power. Also looks. This Tuscon for me it's ugly in front and at the back they copied the Haval H6 with the tailight
Ugly car, looks like a Ssangyong Musso
Really don’t like this model
Thus car is shit, how this manufactures think they can sell us shit here in SA.
😹😹😹😹😹😹
for me the shape of the car does talk. so this one us damn ugly than the previous one....
Disgusting 🤮
people are not thinking right the only reason haval is so cheap is cause its a chinese piece of crap and its not gonna last so im better of going with toyota honda or mazda any day
R540K is cheap to you or is priced well? You are trapped and not open minded to say haval wont last hust because they are Chinese. Haval vehicles are quality, they offer great warranty and service plans what's there to worry about. Do your research and you will see why Haval keeps selling and why more and more south Africans are investing in them
but Haval has be in SA 1998 this account for many years now, they just changed the name from GWM, & most countries get their parts from China anyway incl your iPhones
