I put slits in the roast and stuff those with garlic slices, season the roast, drege in flour, shake off excess, and brown on all sides. I also use chicken stock. Always delicious.
I was contemplating on putting the veggies on the bottom & chuck roast on the top ... But after watching how you finished, I'll do exactly your way. Have a Merry Christmas.
Looks great!! One thing that I do with my roast is dust it with a little (seasoned) flour before searing it. It gives it a nice crust and helps thicken the gravy.
My favorite slow cooker recipe is a whole chicken cooked Upside-down in a wine sauce. It's an America's Test Kitchen recipe & it's easy & super flavorful!
Some of my favorite meals are ones that work together, creating a delicious plan for multiple nights. One night, I’ll make a hearty roast with carrots and potatoes, then save the juices or broth to use the next evening for a comforting dish of beef and noodles with mashed potatoes. For the noodles, I always use Essenhaus Extra Wide Homestyle Amish Egg Noodles-hands down the best noodles I’ve ever cooked with. They’re perfectly textured and soak up the flavors beautifully. Since one of my kids is autistic, I have to make some adjustments to ensure the dish meets their sensory needs. When I cook the onions, garlic, and fresh herbs, I sauté them to release their flavors and then let them simmer in the broth for a while. After that, I carefully strain everything out to leave a smooth, flavorful liquid that works perfectly in the crockpot without any unexpected textures. It’s a bit of extra work, but it’s worth it to create a meal everyone can enjoy. The rich, savory flavors of the roast carry over beautifully into the next night’s dinner, and the Essenhaus noodles paired with creamy mashed potatoes make it a comforting, family-favorite meal that warms the soul.
Love the recipe and the technique. And if you like shredded beef for tacos or burritos just hold the potatoes and carrots and use onion with a can of Pato brand chili sauce. Using the exact same technique and simply shred the roast into the sauce at the end of cooking. You'll never eat ground beef tacos again.
I like this recipe. I was looking for something I could do on more of the simple side. Folks seem to get kind of carried away with their pot roast recipes and that seems to go against the grain with the intention of pot roast. Maybe i am dumb, but I always thought of it is sort of a throw everything in and let it rub elbows kind of dish. Gonna give this a whirl, I think maybe not chopping up the garlic as much because of the cook time, but will stick to the recipe pretty strictly otherwise. Thanks! Also, really like that slow cooker so I bought it 🙂
Hi Kayla, great meal, pot roast is one of my favorites! But .. I'm type 2 diabetic and I need to get serious about my diet. Life has thrown several curve balls at once and I'm eating my emotions lol. Do you have anything specific for diabetics or suggestions for me to get control of my diet? Thank you for anything you can suggest. Also if anyone reading this has any recipes or ideas, I'm all ears. 😊

My personal recipe I’m only sharing my seasonings due to a lot being a secret Sea Salt, crap ton of black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, fire roasted garlic, parsley, soy sauce, crushed peppercorns
Always cook your vegetables separately. If you don't, they will absorb much of the various flavors you intended for the roast. The vegetables will also darken and possibly become too soft and mushy.
This looks great as is, but was thinking of adding a packet of Lipton onion soup mix over it for even more flavor, any thoughts on a good idea or not? Thank you!
I’ve used the Lipton Beefy Onion packets for years. I’ve even tried 1 beefy onion and 1 beefy mushroom packet to a large chuck roast, which gives it an even better flavor and makes a delicious gravy. All the flavored ingredients in the packets will replace all the spices added. Yum! 😋

JUST FINISHED my SECOND BOWL! My Husband is on his THIRD BOWL! It was AMAZING! I agree ,the searing takes it to another level. Thanks for sharing!

I’ll have to try that but with gluten free flour and see how it turns out!
I love crockpot recipes! It makes it so much easier to come home from basketball games to a prepared meal. It helps me avoid the drive through.
IKR! It’s so convenient!
I think that with the cooler temperatures hitting New Hampshire, this would be the perfect time to make it.

I think leaving the roast "as is" right out of the crock pot is a nicer presentation for serving.

I follow Simply Mama Cooks on UA-cam and and she mentioned that her aunt uses the onion packets for flavor
