My father built a school in Pakistan where there are over 400 students provide service to poor and needy is more important rather then building mansions
Well this is one of the dilemma of us living abroad. By heart we love and want to live back in homeland but dream of having a better lifestyle keep us to stay abroad. We sometimes live in two boats
I was living abroad, left my parents home alone, dreaming one day I will make them happy by earning enough money. After 4 years I realize at this stage they don't want money but me . My father started facing several health issues. Then I realize may be it would be too late to bring them here. So I left abroad and with less money I'm living happy with parents and family.

For an update Alhamdullilah my Father is healthy now MashaAllah and we offer prayers daily together in Masjid. Alhamdullilah Allah almighty also blessed me with a cute baby girl. When my parents hold princess in hands, I can clearly see a bright shine in their eyes and the love they use to express with little angel. It feels like to me they are living now a young life or reverted back to the life when they were young. Alhamdullilah dears this is the happiness I never ever thought of it in my life. Trust me I can't express all of my feelings but the truth is I'm more happy, way more successful in my life because of parents prayers and blessings. At this time of pendamic earning enough in Pakistan with my efforts and Alhamdullilah in Halaal ways, may be earning more than when I was in abroad. Alhamdullilah. I hope my story will guide someone to take right decision at the right time. I realized when you make your parents happy Allah Almighty puts under your feet all the good wills you may struggle hard for or spend the whole life seeking for. Say Alhamdullilah for what you have and stay blessed.

I broke into tears myself when saw the man becoming tearful remembering my own painful journey. It’s not easy to leave your homeland for a better future. You always miss your homeland and your community. I wish things were better I would never have thought of coming abroad. However the economic revival has a lot of wonderful opportunities for young people. However, I do not see making huge mansions for no one to live there. Why not spend the same money abroad to have a decent home for the family. In the generations to come home is where you are born and raised.

The west have taken these illiterate persons in there countries to use them as SAFETY VALVES . Bcz as the west and christians are looting the mid east and other poor countries so they need some same people(muslims) who can protect and hide the brutality of christians and west. Turkey has more tahn 3 millions and pakistans has more than 2 millions refugees just bcz the dictators of US and Europes imposed war in syria and afghanistan. Oh, I wish there were real Christians here! In most Euro countries, the right-wing Nazi parties are winning. Society is far too concerned about being politically correct to even embrace good moral and values. They don´t even understand the decency and dignity by which their own grandparents used to live. People who see everything in terms of sides, Christians against Muslims, are just crazy and misled. The only war I see is between religion and atheism. Atheists are working hard to eradicate religion and in Europe, they have succeeded. They are deliberately encouraging depravity...changing your gender is seen as something to be celebrated and understood, while wearing a headscarf is seen as a crime and provocation! They have even managed to hijack school-curriculum and are now promoting gender fluidity to preschoolers! They hate God and want to pervert everything that Christianity, Islam or Judaism stands for. How can people not see through this? Christians here don´t even dare say that they are Christian. Alhamdulillah, come to Pakistani churches and you´ll see how well-attended they are. Some of our most beloved stars and celebrities are Christian. As a Muslim, I only feel brotherhood and friendship with real Christians and Jews ("real" meaning those who dare practise their faith and aren´t just living an Atheist life while proclaiming to be Christian).

When I started to watch this documentary I thought I would watch it for a couple of minutes but failed to do so.I watched it till the end and shed a drop of tears with the old Pakistani Norwegian Gentleman.A big thumps up for the wonderful heart touching stories.

In the west, family and biological link is phasing away. In a way, it's a good and more promising trend. We need to be open and consider like-minded people family, not by blood-kin. Family and traditions will kill the modernization and progressive life. Humans are to progress and improve, that is the universal law. The poor countries are poor because of bad governance, and populace backwardness - ignorance.

Overseas Pakistanis have an opportunity to do something positive in their communities. People building these empty mansions are just limiting themselves. They can build schools named after their families or become conservationists to protect green spaces in their town etc. There is so much they can do. This is wasted potential.

The house will crumble but the benefit of helping people will never fade. If Allah gave them wealth, their job is to spend it on themselves and those around them. Not waste it.
Most of the people building them are old. Retired. It's a lot of hard work to build a business, it requires more than just money. They want to relax in their old age, not have the stress of a new business.
Watched this on BBC World over the weekend. Very good documentary! Got to appreciate the old man who praised Christian countries for treating Muslims better than how Middle Eastern countries treat Muslims from poorer nations.
Hamzazaie, then how can some people who used to be colonized came out more successful than the others? Surely, they envisioned their future more than regretting their past. Some didnt even read or live or know the colonial era or what happened 10 years ago. Stop blaming others. In a country like pakistan, bangladesh, and india, its the current government whic are failing their people. Its the mentality and the religion can be blamed as well.
Arabs first conquered the Arab world and then again under the banner of Islam. Islam then split into 2. Many Islamic nations still do the same today. They don't make their fellow Muslim's lives any better now that they have gained a lot of wealth. In fact, you could deduce that history is repeating in the Islamic world. This man reminded me of my grandfather he did so much for us and he is the reason we have better life in UK now and when it was the time for him to relax and enjoy his life he left this world so soon...I miss u very much granddad

I was born and raised in Saudi Arabia. My mother is Indonesian. When I was there we never visited Pakistan my dad didn't took us to Pakistan to visit and see relatives. And when I was 13 we shifted to Pakistan. It was very difficult for us to manage and settle in Pakistan as that time we didn't know to speak Urdu, we speak Arabic mixed with Indonesian language. And we use English in Indian international school and my friends were almost Arabic. But now we are here in Pakistan permanently my dad said he wants to take us back to Saudi Arabia but we dont want to because now there is Pakistan in my heart. I would only live in Pakistan or Indonesia.
Yehh i live in UK but when i went to visit pakistan i didnt wanna come back but bcz i cant write urdu i had to come back bcz i would have found it hard but soon gonna move back to my house in pakistan

Now i know ' i am not alone . so many people like me have built a house in pakistan but they never stay in it.

I only have one friend from Pakistan..We call him Roger because his name is kind of difficult to pronounce and it sounds more like Roger..Anyway he visits Pakistan every year and always bring pictures of beautiful places in your homeland.

My father started dairy farming in 90s before that we were poor and now Alhamdulillah we can build many houses like these So these people are not satisfied with their lives Im very satisfied with my life here in my own country Dont go anywhere plz work hard in your own country and you will have lot of money Inshallah

Charitable work is an option and indeed a very noble option (I respect your father for that) but not binding on everyone to do the same. Not everyone has capabilities and nerve for taking up such responsibility and if they want to spend their live's earnings on some dream of theirs, then why stop them? And its not that they have earned beyond measure. They have worked hard as factory workers, cooks, waiters, taxi drivers and what not, just enough to save to spend on some dream of theirs. However, if they're not living in the house they built, it surely seems to be waste of money. But I think we shouldn't pass judgements like these on other people.
That's a sad reality, because if you flee the land of your birth (children) then who will be there to take care of it in the future...displaced legacy is what I'm seeing & hearing. You would have traded your culture, traditions, customs & identity for someone else which will lead to a demise of your generational wealth passing.
I'm from the UK but I love going back to my homeland (Pakistan) I try going at least once a year, many times my friends have said lets go somewhere else (Dubai, Egypt, Morocco) but I've never been interested except Pakistan.
Yep that's what usually happens. Especially if the parents almost never take their kids back home for visits. At least on vacation. They have no idea where their parents originally came from or what hardships they suffered to get here.

As an African i can relate to this documentary...Making money abroad and at the same time you lose your heritage/lineage/future generations to outside world..What's the need of building big mansion in your home country when your children are not coming back to live there?? True. I have been living in Europe for the last five years for studies. Living in my own country and my heritage is very important to me. I sent my wife and son back home when my son was at a school-going age. I will be going back home in a few months. European countries are great for those people who don't value their heritage.

While he shares an apartment with 8-9 people, his Dad is wasting his life savings and last years alone struggling to build a house based off his wish. Wow you misunderstand. They are building it together. Why do you think they all squeeze into the small apartment in Norway? Why do you thinks the father consults with the son? The son is earning money that is feeding into their project. Father has some money too and most importantly has the time and probably wants to spend time in Pakistan. This is universal. The mansion is every immigrants ideal. An ideal we never get to live out as we get too invested and used to the creature comforts of our host countries. Our kids dont share that ideal.
Brilliant documentary! Just a thought, instead of building such mansions that lie almost empty, why cant they build schools, hospitals or factories instead that will help their community and probably give a meaningful reason for their sons and grandchildren to return back.
True couldn't agree more but you got to remember these ppl who went overseas are not very educated..they went there in the first place to avoid or leave the poverty behind so if they comeback to the same poverty it's not very pleasing to the eyes

Back in my village in Azad khashmir, hundreds of these mansion lay empty or Patan's are being paid to live in them, because the owner is too old to live there BY HIMSELF, "The best of people are those who live longest and excel in their deeds, whereas the worst of people are those who live longest and corrupt their deeds." [Tirmidhi, Sahih] Brothers do not corrupt you're deeds by building Mansions while you're neighbours sleep on empty stomach.
The dream of building g a home big enough for the whole family to live together is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately it is only a dream. I grew up with 4 generation in one big house and it was a great time. But that was then , and this is now. Nobody wants to deal with others.
I have a Pakistani friend who has built a number of double story villas (not mansions) in Pakistan and bought a few shops there over the span of a decade, he leased out the houses and shops to local families and collects a decent amount of rent from them. When he needed capital to start up his own business abroad and put his kid through University he sold a couple of houses and a shop to cover all his costs. What he told me was people often let their ego and pride dictate what they invest in over making rational and smart business decisions. They build huge mansions over 10-15 years that they can neither lease out nor offload. They simply don't understand real estate, business and ROIs.
When you buy a house luicianna you don't think about making money as Muslims we feel blessed the almighty has given us through hard work and dedication we as people of the holy book are thankful to our creator we don't want money you might and others like you who are greedy for cash but are not we buy house to retire in for parents family and kids and grandkids to come spend holiday and see pakistan
@@banareshussain2185 there is nothing in Islam, Ahadeeth, or the Quran that says people cannot benefit financially from building a house and leasing it out,, it is tijarath (business). Even the Prophet (saw) worked as a merchant for Khadeeja's (RA) business, so there is nothing wrong with doing business. Don't try to be holier than the Messenger of Allah (saw) and refrain from innovations in religion. May Allah guide us all

I feel for the man who is building the Mansion for his son. He is fulfilling his sons dream becos he loves him not becos he wants to show off. It is his 40y/o son who is shamefully using his dads hard earned cash to fulfil a materialistic dream when his dad could have invested his cash in a better house in Oslo for the whole family, selfish son using his innocent dad. 😥
i'm not Pakistani but i would say it's smart to built properties in your motherland then abroad. at least it's developing the country, only bad i see is the fact that the houses are pretty much empty

My dad also build a very big mansion on a big mountain because he wanted to outdo people! Now it just sits there rooting away, all the furniture untouched, dead rooms, no noise and no energy in there. It shows that when your intentions are for the wrong reasons, the outcome is the opposite of what your intention was.

Anxious Lahori What is wrong with working abroad when your country cannot provide jobs for you? He is earning an honest living, not stealing or robbing. Also he works hard abroad and they were treated well. If you go to arab countries, they will take your passport and make you work like slaves. Sometimes they may withhold your salary. That's what happened to those who go to Saudi Arabia, Qatar or Dubai.

What a beautiful tribute to the people of Norway and their civility and humanity unmatched across the world. When I was a child the nation of my birth fell apart. I found myself in a refugee camp at 10 years of age. The whole Western world and Japan helped us, as did the UNHCR and many other UN agencies. However, the people of Norway and Sweden truly are something extraordinary. I am grateful for everything anyone gave us as we didn't deserve any help, so I hope this doesn't come across wrong. Most of the time, the food we received would be the surplus food reserves often stored in special containers by various countries (not complaining) and at the end of their cycle. The US for example donated crackers from the Korean War that were labeled USAF 1956. You had to soak those babies for about 3 hours before they were edible. Again not complaining but that was the norm - just providing some frame of reference. You can imagine our surprise when at Easter time, the kids were all given a little box with a few of those Cadburry Cream eggs. I had not seen a piece of candy in 2 years. They had a label on them that said something like "We are sending you our best wishes. Happy Easter from the people of the Kingdoms of Norway and Sweden." I will never forget that. I have been in fights with people whenever anyone has said anything negative about them. To this day that simple gesture makes me cry and has inspired me like few things in life. Thank you to the people of Norway, Sweden, and all the other truly inspirational human civilizations of the western world, Japan, South Korea, Canada and the US, and all the others who do so much and seemingly get nothing but hate in return.
Sophicus, one really learns through adversity and your story of those Easter eggs is so poignant and is beyond proof that kindness and love are the only ways to go.
If it helps to know, the US and England now have a program where school children write cards and make 'friendship boxes' with teddy bears and donated treats to send to kids after disasters elsewhere in the world. Some of us did learn that old army rations were bad ideas!

We Pakistanis are not supposed to abandone are parents at their old age, we are taught to take care of them like they did ours, Atleast not a sane Pakistani abandones his/her parents they are Major highlights of our life and I hope I will become successful enough to make my parents happy and give them the best life they could wish of💕
Totally Not Me that is the root cause of all the problems in third world countries. In middle class, They raise kids to be financially independent only at a very late age, and most older people are left with little to no savings for their retirement because they have spent all their money on their kids. And what happens is that the parents become emotionally and financially disabled and fully dependent on the kids, who I assure you end up doing it like a duty and not from the heart. Especially when the old age is complicated by some disease. And the people who have the ill fortune of having only daughters suffer even more because they have no one to take care of them, and they would have spent everything on the girl's marriage and upkeep. And the govts have a lot of fun in these countries because they don't have to spend any money on the upkeep of the elderly, they just have to jail the kids for abandonment. When you enforce traditions into simple family relations you take the emotion out of it.

Jags Sandhu: I think that the children have no problems visiting their parents in Pakistan. What happens is that they married and have a family of their own in a different country. They worry about the political problems and necessities their families could encounter in Pakistan, if the move there. I don't blame them.. Pakistan is a beautiful country, but it has so many needs, that anybody would feel scare to raise their kids in a country were they know they are going to be unhappy.

I remember that my father told me that those countries do have the means to be rich and prosperous . It isn't an easy task and "brain drain" is a horrible disease that plagues many developing nations, especially in many Asian countries. Wealth disparity is also a major factor as well. Many of these places don't have a livable wage with worker's rights set up. It's sad, but it really just needs investments from other countries where an abundance of sustainable employment opportunities are available to the public. Karan, you couldn't understand the documentary. Please go through it again. The point is, it is ok to earn abroad and send some money to native village from where you come from. But there has to be a balance and foresight. You can never decide fate n future of your children and grand children. You can make arrangements for their summer vacation in peace time. And the home in native village can support, provide shelter, in case they face bad times in new country , due to war, crime or communal hatetrade. Moreover you should think about doing some charity rather than building such mansions where no one would stay most of the time

Yes, this doc has deeply touched me. My mother and father first I migrated to Germany where I was born then when I was three My father decided to go to the United States. The US ironic U is for united, the S is for States but for me it stands for "US" All of US! My father came to the states with $200 dollars he read an employment add in Germany that a company was looking for engineers. He simply decided he was going without any concrete plan. When he found his way to that company he met with the president. The president whom was a very sophisticated, compassionate man or in ally himself from Luxemburg explained to my father that they needed oil and gas refinery enigineers. My father thanked him and began to exit then the kind man asked told him to wait . That evening my father went home with that Man long story short that amazing man and his wife sponsored my dad , those wonderful souls became my grandparents once we came to join my dad . I am proud to be an American. I appreciate my liberties and ability to earn a fair wage .

So they're like a stranger (na mehram) to us (although blood related) which is why marriage with them is allowed. It's pretty common but the newer generation hesitates because of hereditary diseases.

Ya’ll should’ve interviewed my father. He went to the States 40 years ago, and just by working his butt off, he now owns a 1.5 million dollar mansion in Maryland, Winchester, Baltimore city. He has given us the best life possible, my 4 siblings and I are proud of him. At this moment, he is working with multiple charitable organisations, for the betterment of Pakistanis.
My Grandad, Dad, Uncles pissed away in excess of £1m+ on kothia in Pakistan. They came in the 60's and 70's to the UK and could have spent the money wisely on a future for their children, and now here we are struggling to pay off a mortgage where house prices are through the roof. What a beautiful documentary, the first guy reminds me of my grandpa , he did the same exact thing but in Palestine . He came to America , made a good living and went back to Palestine to live in a nice house he built for himself . They just love the air , the nature and the connection they have to the land , it’s truly very interesting, and this documentary really showed me how alike we really are

I was living abroad, left my parents home alone, dreaming one day I will make them happy by earning enough money. After 4 years I realize at this stage they don't want money but me . My father started facing several health issues. Then I realize may be it would be too late to bring them here. So I left abroad and with less money I'm living happy with parents and family.

For an update Alhamdullilah my Father is healthy now MashaAllah and we offer prayers daily together in Masjid. Alhamdullilah Allah almighty also blessed me with a cute baby girl. When my parents hold princess in hands, I can clearly see a bright shine in their eyes and the love they use to express with little angel. It feels like to me they are living now a young life or reverted back to the life when they were young. Alhamdullilah dears this is the happiness I never ever thought of it in my life. Trust me I can't express all of my feelings but the truth is I'm more happy, way more successful in my life because of parents prayers and blessings. At this time of pendamic earning enough in Pakistan with my efforts and Alhamdullilah in Halaal ways, may be earning more than when I was in abroad. Alhamdullilah. I hope my story will guide someone to take right decision at the right time. I realized when you make your parents happy Allah Almighty puts under your feet all the good wills you may struggle hard for or spend the whole life seeking for. I broke into tears myself when saw the man becoming tearful remembering my own painful journey. It’s not easy to leave your homeland for a better future. You always miss your homeland and your community. I wish things were better I would never have thought of coming abroad. However the economic revival has a lot of wonderful opportunities for young people. However, I do not see making huge mansions for no one to live there. Why not spend the same money abroad to have a decent home for the family. In the generations to come home is where you are born and raised.

Overseas Pakistanis have an opportunity to do something positive in their communities. People building these empty mansions are just limiting themselves. They can build schools named after their families or become conservationists to protect green spaces in their town etc. There is so much they can do. This is wasted potential.

And when I was 13 we shifted to Pakistan. It was very difficult for us to manage and settle in Pakistan as that time we didn't know to speak Urdu, we speak Arabic mixed with Indonesian language. And we use English in Indian international school and my friends were almost Arabic. But now we are here in Pakistan permanently my dad said he wants to take us back to Saudi Arabia but we dont want to because now there is Pakistan in my heart. I would only live in Pakistan or Indonesia.

Charitable work is an option and indeed a very noble option (I respect your father for that) but not binding on everyone to do the same. Not everyone has capabilities and nerve for taking up such responsibility and if they want to spend their live's earnings on some dream of theirs, then why stop them? And its not that they have earned beyond measure. They have worked hard as factory workers, cooks, waiters, taxi drivers and what not, just enough to save to spend on some dream of theirs. However, if they're not living in the house they built, it surely seems to be waste of money. But I think we shouldn't pass judgements like these on other people.

True. I have been living in Europe for the last five years for studies. Living in my own country and my heritage is very important to me. I have a Pakistani friend who has built a number of double story villas (not mansions) in Pakistan and bought a few shops there over the span of a decade, he leased out the houses and shops to local families and collects a decent amount of rent from them. When he needed capital to start up his own business abroad and put his kid through University he sold a couple of houses and a shop to cover all his costs. What he told me was people often let their ego and pride dictate what they invest in over making rational and smart business decisions. They build huge mansions over 10-15 years that they can neither lease out nor offload. They simply don't understand real estate, business and ROIs.

My dad also build a very big mansion on a big mountain because he wanted to outdo people! Now it just sits there rooting away, all the furniture untouched, dead rooms, no noise and no energy in there. What is wrong with working abroad when your country cannot provide jobs for you? He is earning an honest living, not stealing or robbing. Also he works hard abroad and they were treated well. If you go to arab countries, they will take your passport and make you work like slaves. Sometimes they may withhold your salary. That's what happened to those who go to Saudi Arabia, Qatar or Dubai.

What a beautiful tribute to the people of Norway and their civility and humanity unmatched across the world. When I was a child the nation of my birth fell apart. I found myself in a refugee camp at 10 years of age. The whole Western world and Japan helped us, as did the UNHCR and many other UN agencies. However, the people of Norway and Sweden truly are something extraordinary. I am grateful for everything anyone gave us as we didn't deserve any help, so I hope this doesn't come across wrong. Most of the time, the food we received would be the surplus food reserves often stored in special containers by various countries (not complaining) and at the end of their cycle. The US for example donated crackers from the Korean War that were labeled USAF 1956. You had to soak those babies for about 3 hours before they were edible. Again not complaining but that was the norm - just providing some frame of reference. You can imagine our surprise when at Easter time, the kids were all given a little box with a few of those Cadburry Cream eggs. I had not seen a piece of candy in 2 years. They had a label on them that said something like "We are sending you our best wishes. Happy Easter from the people of the Kingdoms of Norway and Sweden." I will never forget that. I have been in fights with people whenever anyone has said anything negative about them. To this day that simple gesture makes me cry and has inspired me like few things in life. Thank you to the people of Norway, Sweden, and all the other truly inspirational human civilizations of the western world, Japan, South Korea, Canada and the US, and all the others who do so much and seemingly get nothing but hate in return.

Norway and Sweden are truly extraordinary countries.
If it helps to know, the US and England now have a program where school children write cards and make 'friendship boxes' with teddy bears and donated treats to send to kids after disasters elsewhere in the world. Some of us did learn that old army rations were bad ideas!

Totally Not Me that is the root cause of all the problems in third world countries.
In middle class, They raise kids to be financially independent only at a very late age, and most older people are left with little to no savings for their retirement because they have spent all their money on their kids.
And what happens is that the parents become emotionally and financially disabled and fully dependent on the kids, who I assure you end up doing it like a duty and not from the heart. Especially when the old age is complicated by some disease. And the people who have the ill fortune of having only daughters suffer even more because they have no one to take care of them, and they would have spent everything on the girl's marriage and upkeep.
And the govts have a lot of fun in these countries because they don't have to spend any money on the upkeep of the elderly, they just have to jail the kids for abandonment.
When you enforce traditions into simple family relations you take the emotion out of it.
The people in these villages are some of the most humble, down to earth and caring individuals.
They are not not all majority are corrupt but because they come from poor backgrounds

Folks just warmed my heart. They all had wishes and worked for them. Those shoes brought a sensation of tears because I almost felt them.

Jags Sandhu: I think that the children have no problems visiting their parents in Pakistan. What happens is that they married and have a family of their own in a different country. They worry about the political problems and necessities their families could encounter in Pakistan, if the move there. I don't blame them.. Pakistan is a beautiful country, but it has so many needs, that anybody would feel scare to raise their kids in a country were they know they are going to be unhappy.
This is happening all around the world to people who leave their homeland for a better life... Torn between two worlds...

I remember that my father told me that those countries do have the means to be rich and prosperous . Today I realize that as long as there is misery and unrest onthird world countries the richer the bigger wealthy countries get

You can't just the majority based on the minority. You don't know what most people's intentions are or the reasoning for why they do what they do. I know I'm late but this comment is really fucking ignorant. Pakistan has accepted almost 2 million afghan refugees in the past few decades. Turkey itself was holding 63% of the world's refugees in 2018, the majority of them from poorer muslim countries in the Middle East and Africa.

It isn't an easy task and "brain drain" is a horrible disease that plagues many developing nations, especially in many Asian countries. Wealth disparity is also a major factor as well. Many of these places don't have a livable wage with worker's rights set up. It's sad, but it really just needs investments from other countries where an abundance of sustainable employment opportunities are available to the public. Pakistan has a lot of cultural, religion, and gender issues that they need to work past first. Sadly much of the country still live their lives revolving everything in religion. I believe they don't need to let go of Religion, but need to let go of being an "Islamic" nation and start being a Muslim majority progressive nation similar UAE.

Karan, you couldn't understand the documentary. Please go through it again. The point is, it is ok to earn abroad and send some money to native village from where you come from.
But there has to be a balance and foresight. You can never decide fate n future of your children and grand children. You can make arrangements for their summer vacation in peace time. And the home in native village can support, provide shelter, in case they face bad times in new country , due to war, crime or communal hatetrade.
Moreover you should think about doing some charity rather than building such mansions where no one would stay most of the time

He simply decided he was going without any concrete plan.
When he found his way to that company he met with the president.
The president whom was a very sophisticated, compassionate man or in ally himself from Luxemburg explained to my father that they needed oil and gas refinery enigineers.
My father thanked him and began to exit then the kind man asked told him to wait .
That evening my father went home with that Man long story short that amazing man and his wife sponsored my dad , those wonderful souls became my grandparents once we came to join my dad .
I am proud to be an American.
I appreciate my liberties and ability to earn a fair wage .

I live in Norway and my family is originally from Pakistan! I feel like the man in the doc has a very similar story as my grandpa. He also thought he would just be here for a couple of years, but it’s tone 42 years and he still lives here :)
pakistani are good in saving money, they dont spend money for themselves abroad, like wearing expensive clothings, they just keep on saving money, thats why even they have low salary abroad they can build mansions, what more if they get high salary, they can build palace or even kingdom...... hats off to pakistan people.
Most are scrimping and saving and borrowing and begging and arguing with their wife and kids because of the stress that they feel because they need to send a fixed amount back to their brothers back home.
Sometimes saving all your money to spend it on one extravagant thing, like these men, just isn't worth it. Spend that money on experiences, travel the world, make memories with your family. Not save and save to build a house that nobody will even live in.

So they're like a stranger (na mehram) to us (although blood related) which is why marriage with them is allowed. It's pretty common but the newer generation hesitates because of hereditary diseases.

Ya’ll should’ve interviewed my father. He went to the States 40 years ago, and just by working his butt off, he now owns a 1.5 million dollar mansion in Maryland, Winchester, Baltimore city. He has given us the best life possible, my 4 siblings and I are proud of him. At this moment, he is working with multiple charitable organisations, for the betterment of Pakistanis.

My Grandad, Dad, Uncles pissed away in excess of £1m+ on kothia in Pakistan. They came in the 60's and 70's to the UK and could have spent the money wisely on a future for their children, and now here we are struggling to pay off a mortgage where house prices are through the roof. Oh and as for the Mansions, some next man is living it large by "looking after them"

Most of the comments suggests what he should have done with his money, which he earned. Many people suggested he could have build hospitals, schools, youth centers... instead of these mansions. What a beautiful documentary, the first guy reminds me of my grandpa , he did the same exact thing but in Palestine . He came to America , made a good living and went back to Palestine to live in a nice house he built for himself . They just love the air , the nature and the connection they have to the land , it’s truly very interesting, and this documentary really showed me how alike we really are
