I came back to say that I am amazed that there is virtually no pain in my thumb this morning! After watching your video, I wrapped the joint of my thumb in medical tape before I went to bed.
Now this morning, moving my thumb gives no pain. 😀 I can even gently squeeze the base of my thumb and no pain! Before, it was so painful when I did that. I unscrewed a bottle cap without pain. Glad I watched this video because I would have never thought this would help. I would have thought that restricting the thumb from flexing down when it wanted to would make it worse and cause more pain.
I am a senior and began to have problems with my thumb about a month ago. My mom had operations for trigger finger on her 2 middle fingers. Thanks for sharing this technique. ❤️

RE: keeping the Band-Aid dry: Cut off a finger from a Latex or thin RUBBER EXAM GLOVES. Pick a GLOVE FINGER that will hold tightly to your Band-Aid wrapped finger without space. (I use the PINKY or RING FINGER to cover the Band-Aid to keep it from getting wet.)

Oh my gosh! My trigger thumb started suddenly about 5 weeks ago. It became so bad that I could barely bend my thumb, and when I did try and bend it the pain was really bad. I did make an appointment with a hand specialist this morning. Then I found this video. I applied one band-aid, my pain was instantly gone, and I can now partially bend my finger. Yes: it still pops a tiny bit, but nothing like it was before. Again, oh my gosh! I am going to get a confirmation from the hand doctor that it is trigger thumb. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You mentioned something about a "hand therapist." So I did a search and found a group of hand therapists close to me! I will give them a call.

Use those crinkly wraps that most clinics use for wrapping the site of a blood draw. They stick to themselves without adhesive. Cut a 3/4 " wide strip about 3" long and wrap around the finger. Then a piece of 3/4" paper tape a couple times around. Easily lasts 3-4 days with no skin irritation. Used on the two finger sections. Works great. Qlso do some of the massaging of the tendon from the finger toward center if the palm. Huge difference in 7-10 days now. Thanks for info!!

I developed sore stiff hands in January with triggering on the right ring finger. Recently I realised that the cause was my inside door handles which curve upwards at the end with the point hitting my palm under the rf for over ten years. And the handle springs are way too strong. Lousy design Oakley.
Another coincidence is that when I lift a mug the weight is resting on my ring finger.
A couple of weeks ago I taped up the doors so I could open them push pull with no downward pressure and the condition has now improved significantly.
To prevent triggering I wanted to make a ring which I could remove to wash my hands. In the end I settled on Cling Film. I got the idea from a scone wrapped in CF. I take a piece about 18 ×12 inches and fold it lengthwise into a cigar shape about 2cm wide. I wrap it around my left index finger making it neither too loose or tight. Loose is better than tight. I attach a piece of sellotape to secure the first turn to help stop it unravelling from the inside. I secure the end flap with a narrow piece of sellotape/scotchtape. It's soft and malleable but strong enough to hold its shape, for a day or two anyway. The inside gets sticky in the heat so perhaps a little powder or oil will help with that. It's still a work in progress.
I wear it mostly in bed where the triggering is worst. I'm wearing it now as I type. I wear a garden glove (firm rubber palm cloth back) for household chores and cycling.
Another kind of ring for rrf which has proved useful is white elastic. The length is double circumference rrf, width is lower section rrf. It's loose enough to twirl around the finger and the construct is stretchy and easily adjustable.
I put double-sided sticky tape (don't use best scissors to cut dsst) along the first half and finished with white pvc tape around half the outside.

I make sure it is lose enough not to cut circulation and tight enough to stay on. Works great for me. This is good idea but I can't wear bandaids.

I came down with trigger thumb on my right hand after I just woke up with it one day around a year ago, very painful. I even went to a hand doctor and got a couple steroid shot in the joint and it really didn't help much. So I did some research and found out that this could be caused by a B6 deficiency and read that taking P-5-P, 50mg 3-times a day along with a magnesium supplement to help with absorption would heal my trigger thumb. I also read that you have to take it a minimum of 6 months for the healing to take place. Well, after 6 months and 2 weeks I noticed my trigger thumb getting a lot better almost over night, It's now getting better everyday and I don't have to splint my thumb at all and I can bend my thumb without triggering it and basically the pain has gone away and my mobility is returning more every day. I had an appointment with the hand doctor at the end of next month for another steroid shot and now I going to cancel, don't need it. The doctor didn't believe in P-5-P as a treatment but I proved him wrong! Your video's helped m e through a lot, thank you

Having worked through trigger thumb for the last 2 months, let me say this: a band-aid is UNSUFFICIENT to lock the joint into place. Two bandaids doesn't do it either. What does do it is some medical tape wrapped several times around the finger/joint, and that approach is much less intrusive than that triangular device she suggests putting on the finger. My $0.02. ps: for me, it's now at about 10 weeks since it started, and it's much better...but definitely still not fully healed. It takes a LONG time.

I tried the bandaid trick but after a few days I got dermatitis from the adhesive. So now I cut a 4x4 bandage into 1” strips (use 1 at a time) and attache 5” of 1” durapore tape (looks like fabric and doesnt stretch) and wrap this whole unit around the bottom of my finger and it works great. I can get it wet when I wash my hands (use a paper towel to dry it off), it conforms great to my finger, can do all sorts of work without triggering. Wearing a glove on that hand when washing up keeps the bandage from getting wet and makes it last longer.

I use athletic tape, then put a band-aid over it. It usually lasts a couple of days. My trigger finger affects my left ring finger. I got it from playing the guitar several hours per day. The tape + band-aid prevents locking but doesn't do anything to relieve the underlying condition. I have to be careful when I use that finger when playing - too much pressure can be super painful.

I played the guitar for hours every day too in my early days, not so much these days. I have always wondered what could have caused this condition, for some reason I never considered it being the guitar. Makes total sense, since it's only my right ring and little finger I have problems with. Thanks for your comment.

I use kinesio tape with micropore over it for my thumb, but I do find my skin gets irritated eventually. That's why I don't use bandaid/elastoplast, because the adhesive is much more irritating.

Thanks so much. I was given an oval 8 [ wrong size at the Othro. It was making the inflammation worse. The bandaid is per, until I go to physical therapy Friday. Thank you.

    Not able
To bend my thumb at all
