Seen a young boy in the Windjammer on RCL Freedom of the Seas load up his plate with hot dogs and when he reached to get the few on the back of the rack, those on his plate rolled off and fell to the floor. He picked them up off the floor with his hands and put them back on the rack. I screamed "really" and got a crew member to shut down that area and remove the hot dogs!
I’ve seen people pick up something from the buffet with their hands and put it back. Some will even go so far as to sniff it and put it back. This is one of the reasons I’m glad we will be served at the buffet instead of just helping ourselves.
On a cruise one time, my husband saw a woman grab a handful of rice with her hand!!! What's worse is when you're in the bathroom and see someone leave without washing their hands 🤢 now that's disgusting because you know they're going to be at the buffet!!!
I don’t have a problem if a person picked the item they wanted, it’s when they pick it up decided they wanted another one instead and put it back ewww 😝
@@sshltn No it is not sanitary BUT that's what hand sanitizer is for...yes touch all those tongs while getting your food but then when you get to your table to eat you use hand sanitizer before you touch anything else 🙄 Not using tongs and using your vile hands to take food is not only unsanitary but is extremely poor etiquette!
Last cruise I had ZERO meals in the buffet. Yes, I know, I was shocked too. I didn’t set out to do that. I just had breakfast in the MDR, Taco salads and tacos at Blue Iguana, Guys Burgers, Pasta Bella for lunch, and MDR for dinners. Also enjoyed Sea Day Brunch in the MDR and Afternoon Tea. At the end of the cruise, I realized I never stepped foot into the buffet line!
I’m thinking the same thing. I’m going on a cruise in a few days and have made up my mind, breakfast in my room and maybe lunch too. I’ll just wait until I get on the ship and get the lowdown on the best way to proceed.
P&O ships in Australia also have the various food stations BUT they are served by staff behind glass panels. This is a huge reason I now like their buffet and I'm surprised all cruise lines don't adopt this innovation.

That's why there 's Norovirus on the Ships. I contracted Norovirus on Celebrity Summitt in Barbados. I feel so Blessed that the Canadian couple I'd met on the Ship assisted me. She was a retired nurse and he a retired teacher, they boarded me into a van and rushed me back to the Ship. The crew refused to get me a wheelchair, Ken ran back to the Ship and got the wheelchair and brought me back to the Ship. The Ship's crew wanted them to take me to the hospital in Barbados, which would have cost me thousands of dollars!! Thanks, Nancy and Ken. You are My Angels! Bless You for your Kindness!❤️❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾
We watched a kid in the Disney Fantasy Concierge Lounge do this exact thing. He reached in, grabbed a pastry from the lounge buffet with his bare hand, put it on his plate then decided he wanted something else. He proceeded to put the one thing he had chosen back on the buffet, with his bare hands, and grab something else. My wife told the lounge hosts and they immediately removed the tray, but come on people.
Definitely, but these ladies should have at least moved away from the dessert station. Even if they didn't use a plate they should have taken their cream puff bounty out of other people's way to eat.
That was my first thought. Yay! They ate them, vs. not liking them and returning them to the tray. Reading the comment here about the Disney kid, that's not always the case.
I think worse than taking what they were going to eat with their hands was standing there eating and discussing it. Food could spew or drop from their mouths onto the desert cart. Gross. Take it with tongs on a plate to your table and then eat it.

I can't stand when people do this stuff! I have seen people do it at picnics and other types of social gatherings that involve food. The one thing that I hope will become a thing as we cruise again is staff serving us at the buffet!
Or at least a contract to sign b4 washing your hands previous to entering the buffet on any cruise ship anymore. Could be a UV reactive stamp like they used to use for reentry clearence to the ship back in the day (mid 90's/early 2000's..?)
Thank you Don and Tony! Buffet etiquette has always been important to me and finally you guys have the ability to reach the masses via your channels. Utensils are abundant at the buffet for a reason. My biggest pet peeve is when people lick 😛there fingers while in line, grossssss. Go to your seat and lick away but not at the buffet. Please and thank you 😊
@@1Ymac I am not sure I agree. If you take everything you touch, and ensure that you do not touch food you do not take, it seems to me you would be less apt to spread germs than *everyone* grabbing the same set of tongs. After all, aren't you then grabbing the tool that the butt pickers used? No?
They sure will be interesting. The Japanese have impeccable manners usually but other nations' customs may mean they see some VERY interesting behavior, especially at the buffet. Can't wait!
Was on a cruise with a buddy of mine several years before I met my wife and it was the morning of debarkation. We went to the buffet to have breakfast. I grabbed a cup of coffee and my buddy wanted some tea so he goes to the area where the hot water & tea bags are. The woman in front of him opened her purse and proceeded to put all of the tea bags in her purse. He was just flabbergasted and had to find another beverage station with some tea bags. When he told me the story I remarked that it was a good thing I hadn't been there because I would have made said something and possibly even gotten a crew member involved. Guess I'm more like Don! lol
Age seems to be the common denominator in these bad buffet behavior stories. I guess money doesn't buy class. Also, though I haven't been on a cruise yet, the stories of bad buffet behavior don't surprise me. I see it at least once everytime I go to a buffet.
The rash of ladies of a certain age perpetrating this gross behavior with no male companion in sight is probably commensurate with how many put up with selfish man-child louts for a majority of their lives. At last they can focus on what they want! Makes as much sense as any other theory espoused on the various channels I follow. Seriously I recently returned from a week on the Bliss. We didn't eat in the buffet often, but I didn't see any of that. I'm using a scooter, and every time a staffer saw me in line one of them came up and carried my plate for me. Maybe that shielded me from all the gross stuff going on.
I would just gently inform those ladies at a high decibel clearly heard by all staff to not ever touch food. Use utensils at all times. Don Terris is my hero. I could not just stand by and look the other way. OMG.
I wish some cruise lines had not gone back to self serve buffets. I think they should all be crew staffed for hygiene (topping stations as well) even after Covid is a non issue. People are careless about hand hygiene and I don't want to touch a serving utensil that 900 other people have recently touched.
Its mind blowing that people do that. I get that they're excited and may forget but the utensils where right there. The ships needs to put a 'please use utensils' sign right above every buffet line if they don't already and they should have crew members walking around making sure people do that. That would help the food snatchers and germs.
They just need to serve the food and not let pax touch the utensils. Idc if they make you wash your hands as you walk in or not. That doesn't stop someone scratching their ass or picking the nose or touching their feet fixing a shoe. Either make everyone get food service gloves each and every trip or get employees to serve the food. They should have used the tongs but after that, it doesn't affect me if they hold their food in their hands. I'm not going to bitch about that. I will tell them to gtf out of the way if they're just going to stand there. That's it. Use the tongs, take your ass somewhere else.

Tony, you are right on when you poke fun of Buffet etiquette on board cruise ships. Over the years in my travels I have shied away from any “self service” food options. On my last cruise on the Mardi Gras we had an early excursion so we had to get to the Buffet before getting off at the port, and I stood in the entryway and watched as the majority of the people did not wash their hands, nor use hand sanitizer when entering the food area despite the crew number, reminding everybody to “washy, washy”
We rarely eat at the buffet. perhaps once or twice during the entire cruise. Usually for lunch, but not during peek lunch time. There have always been so many other places to eat on the Oasis Class ships that it was just not necessary. Kinda glad now.
So true! My sister worked at a restaurant years ago, and she told us some stories about the horrible things people would do. It was enough to make some people never want to eat out again! She said she didn't eat many of the items on their buffet. She was grossed out.
I enjoy my fellow Canadian Don's videos too, I'm glad I found another to follow.. yours. Unless the items are so close together that there is no way you can pick up something without touching another then yes use tongs. Remember that these tongs have everybody's fingers on it so once your sit down and about to eat using your hands, unless you washed them, your hands are dirty. These ladies ate what they touched so I don't see that as gross unless they touched everything, sneezed or spit or had crumbs fell out their mouths on the rest of the food. Yes it's selfish to hog space like preventing the rest in line to serve themselves, just like in grocery stores/stores.
Exactly! As long as only touching the one you are taking, it is cleaner than using the grimy tongs. I always use tongs but have pinched a few bread buns from a bin in a grocery store without touching any others when there weren't tongs - or have put my hand inside a plastic bag to grab the items to put in another bag if things were close. I then used that bag for something else like apples. What you don't see is far worse. All those railings and door handles... A few of us watched as the female boss at work took the wet dishcloth from the sink and wiped around the sides of shoes she was wearing and put the cloth back and left the staff room. There was a room full of open mouths with everyone getting up at the same time to remove the cloth to the wash & bleach bucket. Now that was gross in comparison to the hissy fit video about grabbing a cream puff that is a solid object and is separated from the others by its shape. Why am I even watching this video? I never intend on going on one of those sardine-packed cruises with too many people who are rarely in the habit of washing their hands more than once a day and I prefer to prep my own meals.
Brought my nephew on the Vista last summer (age 11) He struggled with certain items and the tongs (pizza FAIL) but never once did he reach out with his hands. The death stare from me would have shamed him back to the room. Just got off the Breakaway a few weeks ago and never saw anyone reach for food with their hands but HOLY SMOKES at every water station there is a sign that asks you NOT to refill your cup or beverage holder but rather fill a clean cup (provided) and then fill your drink holder and time and time again folks filling up their drink holders!!

I know this is an older comment but I tend to agree. Ideally they would have tongs at the plate station that you can use to carry around and fill your plate, then leave at a designated area at the other end of the buffet counter to be washed and sanitized.
I actually witnessed a lady try the soup with the soup ladle!!!! I was so shocked I could not even speak as she put the ladle back into the soup! I then stood in front of the soup station to stop anyone from trying to get any of the soup and waved over a staff member so they could remove the soup. What are people thinking? Is this entitlement to the extreme?
LoL...oh my gosh! Yea, I imagine Don would've lost his mind and his cool over this one! 😂 Great story! Any food service has the potential to be disgusting if we think about it but to actually see it is something else. At least they didn't put it back. 😝
I get what you are saying, they weren’t perpetuating a violation towards you, and others spoke up, but I’m the girl that would dash over and grab them plates like “here ya go ladies, don’t wanna cross contaminate anything this soon in the trip 😉 have fun, and use tongs!”
I would have done something similar. I would have gotten a plate for me and plates for them. I would have used tongs to get creme puffs for me, used tongs and loudly said since you think they are so delicious I’m gonna get some myself. Then I’d put the plate down and told them that since they liked it so much, they should get some more to bring back to the table. Fake cough into my hand then use said hand to pick up creme puffs for them, sat them on their plates and handed it to them and as I walked away with my plate, told them to enjoy.
I much prefer the buffet layout on Princess ships where you have to enter from one side of the food service area where staff is making sure everyone uses the hand sanitizer and is closely monitoring the buffets. During any suspected norovirus threats they have gloved servers dishing out the buffet food so no one gets to touch anything directly.
My husband and I witnessed something similar one night at the midnight buffet held on the lido deck poolside. A man was grabbing food with his hands, dunking it in the fondue items at the fondue bar and eating it there while never using a plate. We were disgusted and said something. His reply, "I washed my hands". I asked how was anyone to be sure especially since the spread of norovirus is such a big deal. He didn't care. The staff heard and saw what was going on and immediately closed the fondue bar down.
It is crazy, but so true. I saw a lady dig in, get a plum from the fruit station, take a bite, go “Oh my, this is so sour”, and put it back with the fruit that others would select from. I did, (because I could not believe what I just saw) say something to the lady) and then to authority. Yes, she was older, and her daughter came looking for her. I gave her a piece of my mind, and told the daughter to keep her mother on a leash. That is just gross. I want to be able to enjoy my selections, and not have others ruin it. This just happened the other day ( I’m on navigator of the seas) me and my husband were headed out of the buffet and a lady stormed passed us and dip in a bowl with tortillas chips with her hand and took a chip then ate it. I totally understand how Don feels it’s bad enough people don’t wash their hands something that I’m sure was thought while being a kid but have to be reminded of it as an adult too 😔😔 sad. I worked at a grocery store where there was a salad/ hot food bar. I used to see a couple regular shoppers ( men) eating off the buffet all of the time.
Lol, oh please! No big deal! As long as they don’t put it back before or after they take a bite. Most people don’t realize they must use tongs or a fresh plate. Biggest problem I see is the well used tong handles touching the food. That is the real problem.
This happened a long time ago at a convention in St Louis on a riverboat cruise with a casino. There was a buffet and I saw a rather drunk guy pull a chair up to buffet and was eating mac & cheese while sitting there.

I've only been on Allure, Oasis and Harmony of the Seas but there were employees constantly walking around and helping guests with their food and plates. How gross!

Times have changed so much from when i was a child. A few years ago(long before covid) I was eating at a buffet and saw a woman do something that completely made me mad, and it was a common courtesy in the past. Were you taught the rule of how you were "supposed to cough or sneeze into your hand" as a courtesy to others? This woman, of an age a few years my senior, coughed into/onto a closed fist, then proceeded to retrieve her next item. All generations prior to mine were taught the same thing. However it still would have transferred the next person anything they might eat with their hands. I wondered how many times I had touched a pair of tongs that she may have already.
I'vd seen food touchers at buffets at casinos, golden corral. And pot lucks . one gal got a spoon and tasted a cassarole. Ok then using same spoon tried a few other things. I was in charge of the potluck so i casually walked over and removed all the tainted food. Amazing enough people cheered. Then they began to chastise the women. Come to find out no one knew her had no idea where she came from. So we figured she was a stray who saw the pot luck sign and thought yeah ok i haven't eaten. Trust me know you'll see it everywhere. And people say how'd i get the neurovirus i used hand sanitizer. It's from the food pickers. Signs should be put up saying use tongs no fingers. The life you save coukd be your own.
There should be a rule where the passenger has to pay for any food that gets thrown out because they decided to contaminate an entire batch. What a waste.

Yes buffets gross me out for this reason. I try to get there early to other buffets but on a cruise ship with them running constantly you can't really do that. The worst experience I had on the Celebrity Equinox buffet was an older woman behind me at the salad bar literally reaching over me as I was getting items and pushing into me. I wasn't going slow I was moving right along. I finally stopped and said "please go ahead".

OMG! Height of rudeness 😱. I totally agree with you and Don. I had a funny thought though... it would be hilarious to have some of those name tags that say “HELLO, My Name Is...”... made up with “ Not A Tong User”. This is the setup...So, go in prepared to buffet with these, see it no tong using happen, pat them on the back with this pre-made sticker and say... “Sure hope you enjoying the cruise so far! And walk away...🤣. Hopefully, they’ll get the message. Or most likely not, it still would be funny. There’s a reason there are tongs placed at each food offered for consumption. The way I see it, the tongs give an extra 6-8 inches of distance from the food selection. Even if you do eat what you took with your hands, you don’t know if there was a crumb, speck of dirt or three, a stray hair that you are not aware of that could drop off of your hand/arm onto the serving tray onto another selection food. Food for thought...pun intended 😉

The idea of them taking food from the buffet with their hands without using utensils is ignorant , but if they had been touching food they didn’t take to eat, I would have said something or gabbed a crew member. The real issue here is that they were eating in a high traffic area which was incredibly rude. Use tongs to take your food, put it on a plate and get out of the high traffic buffet area!
Multiple times seen people take food from the buffet with their hands and then decide it was not for them and put it back. I also don't understand the "grazers" who take items from the buffet and start eating as they continue around the stations.
Did they consume the cream puff over the other puffs? As long as there was a good amount of space it doesn't bother me at all. And really it sounds like they didn't miss a crumb!

I've always wondered this in my own head...started with using tongs to grab lemons for my drink at Zaxbys. What's the harm if you grab something for your own consumption versus touching those tongs that hundreds of hands have touched? I guess you could run the risk of someone grabbing and putting it back or touching other food and you COULD wash your hands but not your food, even though I would likely go to the table and just start eating. Now eating in the buffet line is a bit much!
I love Don's videos and I know you will have a great cruise with him. This is making me want to just stick with the dinning room eating. On the bright side I might not gain as much on a cruise.

I can't stand when people do this stuff! I have seen people do it at picnics and other types of social gatherings that involve food. The one thing that I hope will become a thing as we cruise again is staff serving us at the buffet!

Thank you Don and Tony! Buffet etiquette has always been important to me and finally you guys have the ability to reach the masses via your channels. Utensils are abundant at the buffet for a reason. My biggest pet peeve is when people lick 😛there fingers while in line, grossssss. Go to your seat and lick away but not at the buffet. Please and thank you 😊

@@1Ymac I am not sure I agree. If you take everything you touch, and ensure that you do not touch food you do not take, it seems to me you would be less apt to spread germs than *everyone* grabbing the same set of tongs. After all, aren't you then grabbing the tool that the butt pickers used? No?

Was on a cruise with a buddy of mine several years before I met my wife and it was the morning of debarkation. We went to the buffet to have breakfast. I grabbed a cup of coffee and my buddy wanted some tea so he goes to the area where the hot water & tea bags are. The woman in front of him opened her purse and proceeded to put all of the tea bags in her purse. He was just flabbergasted and had to find another beverage station with some tea bags. When he told me the story I remarked that it was a good thing I hadn't been there because I would have made said something and possibly even gotten a crew member involved. Guess I'm more like Don! lol

Age seems to be the common denominator in these bad buffet behavior stories. I guess money doesn't buy class. Also, though I haven't been on a cruise yet, the stories of bad buffet behavior don't surprise me. I see it at least once everytime I go to a buffet.
The rash of ladies of a certain age perpetrating this gross behavior with no male companion in sight is probably commensurate with how many put up with selfish man-child louts for a majority of their lives. At last they can focus on what they want! Makes as much sense as any other theory espoused on the various channels I follow. Seriously I recently returned from a week on the Bliss. We didn't eat in the buffet often, but I didn't see any of that. I'm using a scooter, and every time a staffer saw me in line one of them came up and carried my plate for me. Maybe that shielded me from all the gross stuff going on.
Yes, there are plenty of us LOLs (little old ladies) who know how to behave in a buffet.

I would just gently inform those ladies at a high decibel clearly heard by all staff to not ever touch food. Use utensils at all times. Don Terris is my hero. I could not just stand by and look the other way. OMG.

I wish some cruise lines had not gone back to self serve buffets. I think they should all be crew staffed for hygiene (topping stations as well) even after Covid is a non issue. People are careless about hand hygiene and I don't want to touch a serving utensil that 900 other people have recently touched.

Its mind blowing that people do that. I get that they're excited and may forget but the utensils where right there. The ships needs to put a 'please use utensils' sign right above every buffet line if they don't already and they should have crew members walking around making sure people do that. That would help the food snatchers and germs.
They just need to serve the food and not let pax touch the utensils. Idc if they make you wash your hands as you walk in or not. That doesn't stop someone scratching their ass or picking the nose or touching their feet fixing a shoe. Either make everyone get food service gloves each and every trip or get employees to serve the food. They should have used the tongs but after that, it doesn't affect me if they hold their food in their hands. I'm not going to bitch about that. I will tell them to gtf out of the way if they're just going to stand there. That's it. Use the tongs, take your ass somewhere else.

Tony, you are right on when you poke fun of Buffet etiquette on board cruise ships. Over the years in my travels I have shied away from any “self service” food options. On my last cruise on the Mardi Gras we had an early excursion so we had to get to the Buffet before getting off at the port, and I stood in the entryway and watched as the majority of the people did not wash their hands, nor use hand sanitizer when entering the food area despite the crew number, reminding everybody to “washy, washy”
We rarely eat at the buffet. perhaps once or twice during the entire cruise. Usually for lunch, but not during peek lunch time. There have always been so many other places to eat on the Oasis Class ships that it was just not necessary. Kinda glad now.
What you need to know is what happens behind the scene in your local restaurant to the food before it reaches your table that will gross you out
So true! My sister worked at a restaurant years ago, and she told us some stories about the horrible things people would do. It was enough to make some people never want to eat out again! She said she didn't eat many of the items on their buffet. She was grossed out.
I worked a restaurant . The cook and staff were low educated but extremely ethical and proud what they were cooking and serving

Unless the items are so close together that there is no way you can pick up something without touching another then yes use tongs.
Remember that these tongs have everybody's fingers on it so once your sit down and about to eat using your hands, unless you washed them, your hands are dirty.
These ladies ate what they touched so I don't see that as gross unless they touched everything, sneezed or spit or had crumbs fell out their mouths on the rest of the food.

Exactly! As long as only touching the one you are taking, it is cleaner than using the grimy tongs. I always use tongs but have pinched a few bread buns from a bin in a grocery store without touching any others when there weren't tongs - or have put my hand inside a plastic bag to grab the items to put in another bag if things were close. I then used that bag for something else like apples.
What you don't see is far worse. All those railings and door handles...
A few of us watched as the female boss at work took the wet dishcloth from the sink and wiped around the sides of shoes she was wearing and put the cloth back and left the staff room. There was a room full of open mouths with everyone getting up at the same time to remove the cloth to the wash & bleach bucket. Now that was gross in comparison to the hissy fit video about grabbing a cream puff that is a solid object and is separated from the others by its shape.
Why am I even watching this video? I never intend on going on one of those sardine-packed cruises with too many people who are rarely in the habit of washing their hands more than once a day and I prefer to prep my own meals.

Brought my nephew on the Vista last summer (age 11) He struggled with certain items and the tongs (pizza FAIL) but never once did he reach out with his hands. The death stare from me would have shamed him back to the room. Just got off the Breakaway a few weeks ago and never saw anyone reach for food with their hands but HOLY SMOKES at every water station there is a sign that asks you NOT to refill your cup or beverage holder but rather fill a clean cup (provided) and then fill your drink holder and time and time again folks filling up their drink holders!!

I know this is an older comment but I tend to agree. Ideally they would have tongs at the plate station that you can use to carry around and fill your plate, then leave at a designated area at the other end of the buffet counter to be washed and sanitized.
Or... taking a bunch of them just because they can and then wasting them.
I actually witnessed a lady try the soup with the soup ladle!!!! I was so shocked I could not even speak as she put the ladle back into the soup! I then stood in front of the soup station to stop anyone from trying to get any of the soup and waved over a staff member so they could remove the soup. What are people thinking? Is this entitlement to the extreme?

I get what you are saying, they weren’t perpetuating a violation towards you, and others spoke up, but I’m the girl that would dash over and grab them plates like “here ya go ladies, don’t wanna cross contaminate anything this soon in the trip 😉 have fun, and use tongs!”

I would have done something similar. I would have gotten a plate for me and plates for them. I would have used tongs to get creme puffs for me, used tongs and loudly said since you think they are so delicious I’m gonna get some myself. Then I’d put the plate down and told them that since they liked it so much, they should get some more to bring back to the table. Fake cough into my hand then use said hand to pick up creme puffs for them, sat them on their plates and handed it to them and as I walked away with my plate, told them to enjoy.

I much prefer the buffet layout on Princess ships where you have to enter from one side of the food service area where staff is making sure everyone uses the hand sanitizer and is closely monitoring the buffets. During any suspected norovirus threats they have gloved servers dishing out the buffet food so no one gets to touch anything directly.
My husband and I witnessed something similar one night at the midnight buffet held on the lido deck poolside. A man was grabbing food with his hands, dunking it in the fondue items at the fondue bar and eating it there while never using a plate. We were disgusted and said something. His reply, "I washed my hands". I asked how was anyone to be sure especially since the spread of norovirus is such a big deal. He didn't care. The staff heard and saw what was going on and immediately closed the fondue bar down.

It needs to be very vocally called out and those passengers need to be embarrassed by causing that part of the buffet to be closed down.

It is crazy, but so true. I saw a lady dig in, get a plum from the fruit station, take a bite, go “Oh my, this is so sour”, and put it back with the fruit that others would select from. I did, (because I could not believe what I just saw) say something to the lady) and then to authority. Yes, she was older, and her daughter came looking for her. I gave her a piece of my mind, and told the daughter to keep her mother on a leash. That is just gross. I want to be able to enjoy my selections, and not have others ruin it. This just happened the other day ( I’m on navigator of the seas) me and my husband were headed out of the buffet and a lady stormed passed us and dip in a bowl with tortillas chips with her hand and took a chip then ate it. I totally understand how Don feels it’s bad enough people don’t wash their hands something that I’m sure was thought while being a kid but have to be reminded of it as an adult too 😔😔 sad. I worked at a grocery store where there was a salad/ hot food bar. I used to see a couple regular shoppers ( men) eating off the buffet all of the time.
Lol, oh please! No big deal! As long as they don’t put it back before or after they take a bite. Most people don’t realize they must use tongs or a fresh plate. Biggest problem I see is the well used tong handles touching the food. That is the real problem.
This happened a long time ago at a convention in St Louis on a riverboat cruise with a casino. There was a buffet and I saw a rather drunk guy pull a chair up to buffet and was eating mac & cheese while sitting there.

I saw that you use the G7XII for the Equinox vlogs, but which camera are you using here and which microphone? Any recommendations for great cameras or accessories? love the video and love how clear you look and sound! Also, that's so gross. I'm surprised that no employees came up to the them and gave them tongs or plates. I've only been on Allure, Oasis and Harmony of the Seas but there were employees constantly walking around and helping guests with their food and plates. How gross!

Times have changed so much from when i was a child. A few years ago(long before covid) I was eating at a buffet and saw a woman do something that completely made me mad, and it was a common courtesy in the past. Were you taught the rule of how you were "supposed to cough or sneeze into your hand" as a courtesy to others? This woman, of an age a few years my senior, coughed into/onto a closed fist, then proceeded to retrieve her next item. All generations prior to mine were taught the same thing. However it still would have transferred the next person anything they might eat with their hands. I wondered how many times I had touched a pair of tongs that she may have already.
I'vd seen food touchers at buffets at casinos, golden corral. And pot lucks . one gal got a spoon and tasted a cassarole. Ok then using same spoon tried a few other things. I was in charge of the potluck so i casually walked over and removed all the tainted food. Amazing enough people cheered. Then they began to chastise the women. Come to find out no one knew her had no idea where she came from. So we figured she was a stray who saw the pot luck sign and thought yeah ok i haven't eaten. Trust me know you'll see it everywhere. And people say how'd i get the neurovirus i used hand sanitizer. It's from the food pickers. Signs should be put up saying use tongs no fingers. The life you save coukd be your own.

Yes buffets gross me out for this reason. I try to get there early to other buffets but on a cruise ship with them running constantly you can't really do that. The worst experience I had on the Celebrity Equinox buffet was an older woman behind me at the salad bar literally reaching over me as I was getting items and pushing into me. I wasn't going slow I was moving right along. I finally stopped and said "please go ahead".
Just got off the Carnival Breeze and unloaded on a guy using his hand to grab bread.
So different than today on 3/24/22, just 3 years later, WOW, your a star on here.
I saw an abuela pour her grandson’s milk from his cup back into the pitcher at a Mexican hotel breakfast buffet. Yeah, black coffee from then on.

OMG! Height of rudeness 😱. I totally agree with you and Don. I had a funny thought though... it would be hilarious to have some of those name tags that say “HELLO, My Name Is...”... made up with “ Not A Tong User”. This is the setup...So, go in prepared to buffet with these, see it no tong using happen, pat them on the back with this pre-made sticker and say... “Sure hope you enjoying the cruise so far! And walk away...🤣. Hopefully, they’ll get the message. Or most likely not, it still would be funny.
There’s a reason there are tongs placed at each food offered for consumption. The way I see it, the tongs give an extra 6-8 inches of distance from the food selection. Even if you do eat what you took with your hands, you don’t know if there was a crumb, speck of dirt or three, a stray hair that you are not aware of that could drop off of your hand/arm onto the serving tray onto another selection food. Food for thought...pun intended 😉
I sometimes have trouble handling the really long tongs. In that case, I ask one of the attendants to plate it for me. They are glad to do so.
But 900 people have just touched the tongs!

Yes I seen that happen on the Celebrity cruise ship a lady was standing right next to me and she start picking strawberry with my hands and went back and picked up another strawberry I told waitress.that deals with the food he was scared to say anything

The idea of them taking food from the buffet with their hands without using utensils is ignorant , but if they had been touching food they didn’t take to eat, I would have said something or gabbed a crew member. The real issue here is that they were eating in a high traffic area which was incredibly rude. Use tongs to take your food, put it on a plate and get out of the high traffic buffet area!

Multiple times seen people take food from the buffet with their hands and then decide it was not for them and put it back. I also don't understand the "grazers" who take items from the buffet and start eating as they continue around the stations.

I think, on the sneeze guards, they could, put signs ("please use tongs", "please take single portions only and come back as often as you wish")
I've always wondered this in my own head...started with using tongs to grab lemons for my drink at Zaxbys. What's the harm if you grab something for your own consumption versus touching those tongs that hundreds of hands have touched? I guess you could run the risk of someone grabbing and putting it back or touching other food and you COULD wash your hands but not your food, even though I would likely go to the table and just start eating. Now eating in the buffet line is a bit much!
