What I didn’t make clear in the video was there was bigger gap between interview and my start date. I didn’t realize it would take that long to onboard and when I interviewed, I thought I would have been at the job for a bit before I needed time off. In my previous contact work there was lot of flexibility to take time off. In hindsight, I should have brought it up at the interview. I wasn’t trying to be deceptive I just thought it was going to play out differently. Definitely a teachable moment for me.
💯 Absolutely he asked you about your personal life and then used it against you!! The problem is with a lot of companies they want mindless robots to do the work and not have a personal life.. seems like you came out winning on the other side!!
Now that I am retired, I look back over the many jobs I have had in my 40 year career & realize that the best way to approach working is to keep your personal life to yourself because some one can and will use the information against you. The work world has changed and your co-workers are not your friends. Hindsight is great! Everything happens for a reason and you worked with a hater who used information against you, it was just a matter of time. The Loca Fam got lucky that this happened, so its our win-win situation!
Karen Lazzaro im finding that out too , I don’t even tell people at my old job the true reason I’m taking days off for like my wedding, I put something else , I worked with lots of back stabbing people and gossipers , Racist and pedophiles.... people don’t need to know other people business.
I have had vacation planned after accepting almost every job offer I have had. I do not tell about my vacation plans during the interview but I do right during job offer call. I have not had any problems any of the times.
Barry set you up. Plain and simple. I’m a big believer in Karma and somewhere, sometime, Barry will get his. The Loca Fam is super happy that you guys are thriving!
i have acted as the agent of karma on people like that... when they get called on the carpet because several people called in to complain about one of their employees "harry, larry, barry, something like that" with a nice description, being aggressive and rude to people...dosnt tend to go down very well... and you can string that shit out for months....easy
The guy was jealous of your side career, your passion, and you not wanting to "LIVE" at the office like he was planning for you. It was a blessing for you. Best wishes! 👍
What I’ve done in the past was accept the job on the understanding that I couldn’t start until after a certain date. That way I didn’t have to share anything. It was never a problem.
I always loaded it a point to let my boss know that I had a cruise planned and paid for months in advance. I made point to mention it every month or so to keep her updated, so she couldn’t say she didn’t know about it coming up. After a couple of cruises, she knew I was planning at least two cruises in a year. So she would ask me when I was going and make a note of it. Every trip was at least 2 weeks long and one was 3 weeks, it was a repositioning cruise from Vancouver down the coast then going through the Panama Canal ending in Miami. 23 days in all. But if I were in your situation, I would have told them at the interview that I had a cruise coming up and it was to late to cancel to get my money back, and apologize for the inconvenience it may cause. But I am excited about coming to work for you and thank them for being so understanding about the circumstances I found myself in. I always thing complete honesty is the best way to go. Most people will respond favorably when you’re honest. Roger in Pierre South Dakota
I've learned over the years that being open, friendly and talkative is not a good idea when it comes to employement. After 30+ years, I've learned to be reserved until after I've hung around in that job for awhile. It's a shame that being honest can bite you in the rear.
Couldn't agree more. Even after a quarter century in the Military, I still never talk about my private life. It's private for a reason; nobody needs to know anything.
It's a sad indictment on our modern competitive society. Barry was a jerk and jumped to conclusions but maybe it was fate and you were better off Tony. I prefer to be open and friendly with colleagues but it takes a while to form a trusting relationship. Taking you to lunch and asking about your interests should not have been the basis for firing you.
Agreed! The less you tell people the better. It just makes common business sense. Too many people tell their entire life story on the first day you meet them: boyfriend issues, family issues, personal financial issues, hemorrhoids, etc, etc., Jeez- a little mystique goes a long ways!
Definitely learned to be cautious at a new job. Get the "lay of the land" first. Find out who is friendly with who, who does not get along with who, and why, etc. Spend time with coworkers and stay neutral for a while until you get a good sense of the "politics" of the place. Be pleasant to everyone and don't give TMI until you know people better. Don't be too opinionated. Don't act as if you know everything. Be humble and open to learning what you can from coworkers who've been there for a while. Show respect. Once you feel more secure in your place there you can assert yourself more. People who come on too strong right away feel threatening. Establish yourself first.
In reality, "Barry" is the classic passive-agressive, wimp manager. Instead of being honest, he weaseled out and used the staffing company to do his dirty work. I've been in management for 17+ years and being straightforward and honest will always get you the respect, even if you have to deliver bad news.
Every job I ever had the staff was always jealous when I traveled on vacation. I also am an honest type that gave too much personal travel information at work about my vacation life. Never got fired, because it was approved vacation time. By the time I figured it out, I was retired! Lol Now I have learned to not share with neighbors my every move. *Barry was jealous, probably the type that ”visited the workplace during his vacation to say Hi”.
Looking back, you got the good end of the lollipop. We wish Barry well. As an older worker, I transitioned to county government, but it took three years to get a permanent spot, rather than the 6-month gigs. I did 3 of those. We all have our reasons, but I need the good-good benefits and a different retirement package that county jobs provide. I start my permanent spot next Monday. I haven't been let go, but I have been *not hired* for positions where I knew I was the best candidate and I knew I rocked the interview. It all works out the way our paths are laid out for us. We just have to have faith. Looking back now, I hope you and Jenny are proud of what you've built. Your channel is a joy to watch.
Thanks for sharing this story with us! When one door closes, a window will open and you must work that much harder to get through it! I have no doubt in my mind you will bounce back and be 1000% greater than you are now! Keep up the great work!
I'm so glad that you shared this. I've felt bad about myself in the past because of jobs I've either gotten and didn't last long or jobs I've interviewed for and didn't get. This helped me to realize that this happens to everybody. It's not like I didn't already know that it did, it was just good to hear someone else's experience. So, I just wanted to say thank you Tony.
Tony, I am not surprised by this. There are far too many people who are in management that simply should not be. I had a job where I was a regional coordinator for a multi-state educational company. After 8 months on the job, I put in a request to go to an educator's conference in another state, and I got that time off approved (it was the only time off I took from the job). Unfortunately, due to the nature of the conference, I was unable to have much contact with my office - understandable, since I was in meetings and forums all day. Well, when I got back, I was let go from my job. However, it was not the worst thing as the company went under a year later.
I was fired for a crazy reason. It feels like rejection, even though its not really your fault. After that job, I got two more amazing jobs that I loved. It lead me to radio and I'm still here. God bless you.
Never worry about losing a job that would replace you in a minute. No matter how long you have been there, loyal and passionate, the end will always happen. You are having the chance now to live your dream and sharing with people that are as passionate about life and cruising as you are. Take a look at that girl you share your life with now and tell me you are the luckiest guy in the world. Of course, next to me and the woman I love. Keep living large, Tony and Jenny.
For what it’s worth, this channel gives me hope and happiness for a better tomorrow. Vacations, weight loss, and a happy relationship like you guys have. All the best from a landlocked solo cruiser in Las Vegas.
I was in Corp management when diagnosed with Parkinson’s, someone recommended that I not tell my boss but I wanted to do the right thing. I figured it wouldn’t matter because I was always in the top 3 in production I was also 2mos away from my 6 weeks sabbatical for being with the company 7 years and would also be receiving a $5k bonus for being #1 manager 9 out of 12 mos. After a month I was called into my bosses office and fired for some obscure reason. I was 62 and had never been fired before it was devastating.
I am a cruiser too. An I have been in the same position of getting a new job twice when I already had future travel plans. An during my interview I did let them know I already had plans for an up coming vacation which was already paid for then I gave them the date and length if time that i needed to have off for the vacation that I will be going on vacation. And it was honored and I came back and still have my job. As a matter of fact I just started a new job this April 2019. And just got back from a 7 day cruise this October. Whereas I did let them know about my October's vacation during the interview before getting hired. ( I have done this twice an my vacation time off was honored)
Happened to me as well. My job was a low-end white collar job. I think others, including my supervisor, were jealous that I had the ability to cruise. I feel it made them insecure or it challenged notions that upper management is the exotic vacationing class, not the bums on the bottom.
WOW!! Didn’t realize you guys lived so close to us! We’re in Gaston Co. and going on our VERY FIRST cruise in September on Carnival Magic to the Southern Caribbean!! We love your channel with all the most detailed info, specially for the new/first time cruisers. A lot of stuff we probably just wouldn’t have thought of
Funny story, I had gone on a trip to Cape Cod, came back to work only to be fired two days after I got back. On the plus side, it was a job I was only supposed to hold for 6 months before moving onto something actually in my field that I had stayed at for 2.5 years, and I hated that job to boot, so looking back getting fired was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Literally every professional job I’ve had since college I had a trip planned before I started. I’ve always told them either at the interview or when they officially offer me the job. It’s never been an issue. Honesty is definitely the best policy.
Tony, man I loving your stuff!! I think Barry was intimidated by your skillset and what you brought to the table! You were doing fabulous at the new job… you had a great life outside of work with Jenny. Barry saw you as a threat! I’m in your situation now. In between jobs and I have a cruise in 6 weeks. I’ve actually told one company, “Hey I have a cruise blah blah blah.” But I decided early on that company was a terrible fit. Keep it up great work!
When I was young, before I got married, I got fired for "not fitting in", not accepting the boss' advances, and once when I got fired, and I asked why, the schmuck firing me didn't even know; he just said "I don't know, I was just told to fire you". These things happen on the way to finding the job you were meant to have. I've been at my current job for 17 years, and still love coming to work.
Wow! That's crazy! Thank you for sharing Tony. My son (20 at the time) lost his job because we took him on a cruise. He requested the time off months in advance. The week before the cruise they told him that he could not have the time off. He went anyway and did not tell us until we were waiting to disembark. We were a little mad, but I really don't blame him and he ended up with a much better job. So it all worked out. :)
Your son did the right thing. Never give up those special moments (a family trip, a wedding, etc) for a job. A job will come and go many times in your life and most of the time the work is not that important. You can't get back the special moments. I have often gave up vacation time in leu of cashing it out and in the end I regret it .
Rule#1 Co-Workers are not your friends. 'BARRY' asked you out on your first day to phish for info he wanted to know what you were up to and stabbed you in the back the moment he got a chance. Never trust your boss co-workers especially when first starting out. Glad this channel is blowing up and you don't need to work with jerks!
The Green - Eye monster was on Barry's back, you can juggle work and vacation together where as Barry doesn't have a life outside of work. Keep making those videos regarding cruising
I have learned that most companies hate when you have a side hustle ... I was in that position a few years ago ... left the job and went full time on training and youtube ... NEVER LOOKED BACK
If it had been me, I wouldn't have said anything during the interview, but I would've told them about the cruise when they offered the job and I accepted. Barry is a two faced Lameo.
I'm sorry that you experienced this. It is always frustrating and hurtful when a job doesn't work out. For what it's worth, I love your videos and think you are probably better off!
At some point in your work life you are going to have a bad boss. Tony you had your bad boss for 5 days. I ahd mine 3 1/2 miserable years. I think you did well. Keep making great videos.
Definitely should've told them in the interview , my wife is in the situation actually. We have a cruise booked the 1st week her job starts . The Employer told her it was no problem and was very happy she told them our cruises we have booked .
Barry definitely set you up though , you didn't deserve to be fired over that . You asked him man to man if everything is working out ok and he lied to your face . Your better off not working for that company anyways.
That’s crazy and ironic ! Same situation happened with me on my first cruise!! Keep it light and tight in the workplace is what I learned!! Good video Tony
When I started my job with this company over 4 years ago I told them then I had 12 days planned for vacation if that was going to be a problem I could start at a later date they had no problem with my vacation plans that's something I've always done if I had plans made
Thanks for the information. My wife is disabled and in a wheelchair. She wants to go on a cruise but is afraid that it will be to much for her. Now that I know that you can rents scooters from cruise ships. I'm a new member to your channel but am learning a lot from your videos.
Thanks for sharing. I was taught to always mention your personal passions and hobbies in an interview and on a resume. It shows that you are an interesting person. Barry was the one who was not honest and forthcoming. He let you know you had no problems when all along he was planning on firing you all along for no valid reason, and the perfect way to do that was while you were away so he didn’t have to look you in the face. This job wasn’t meant to be, and you’re better off. Barry has no business relation skills and on top of that he’s probably a closet cruise hater!
Yeap. You should have told them during the interview unless you were willing to cancel the cruise. I did that during an interview telling them that I had a cruise scheduled and paid for and that I could't start until after. They said fine and it worked out. Truth is if it came to a decision, I would have gone on the cruise no matter what. No way I would forego a paid for cruise. They let me go 4 months later anyway for whatever reason along with several other people in my department like nothing. There is no job security these days. The reality is that you can't usually share your joy with your manager because misery loves company. They want you to be committed to the team and your cubicle. Glad you are making your own future.
Woah...that is really a jerky decision on Barry's part. Way to bounce back from a tough blow!! You have such a fine character...I don't think it was for your not being forthcoming, since you did share it shortly into your working there. Take care of yourself!! I LOVED the music!! Very nice video!! So encouraging!! ❤️
Their loss. When a door closes a window opens. I have no idea who said this. Lol. You can play the “what if” game all day and night, the reality is that you made a great memory with your family doing your passion “cruising”. Please don’t regret. You did what you believed was right. Life simply pushes. That’s what it does. Life is for the living so live long and prosper.
i face that conundrum of being fired over a cruise every year. I am a special ed teacher, and for the past 6 years I have volunteered to support a person in the local community who has a disability to go on a cruising holiday. I work for free supporting the person and without agreeing to work as a volunteer the person would more than likely not be able to afford to pay for a one on one 24/7 personal support worker for the duration of the cruise. The local school system sees this as a conflict of interest and each year I have to beg and plead to be granted time off school or miss out on contracts.
I don’t think it would have mattered what you said from the beginning. My opinion is he was off put by your busy life (cruising, UA-cam and life in general) that your work would suffer. What is bad about the whole situation is he NEVER gave you the chance to find out and you probably would have been the best employee he ever had. His loss and you are a better person for what you told him in being up front about everything else.
Hey Tony, like the way you share your story with us, very compelling. Things happen for a reason. The way life changes, you may see Barry on a group cruise one day so he can tell you personally how much he regretted his decision!
I lost a job once because my supervisor sad I knew to much and it would make her look bad. Either get with the program and slow down or hit the road. Her actual words 😂. I took the form she had written up and went to HR. Didn't miss the job or the environment
I had a supervisor like that once. She never had the nerve to come out and say it, but it was the subtle actions and our interactions. SHE hit the road, AFTER being demoted and my promotion a few levels above her! I was not her supervisor and moved into another county to work, but alas... Her shame was too great. 😂😂😂
Yes, that happened to me, too. It was a great job and I was totally loving it. One day I got a small summer cold and was sneezing, coughing, although it was no big deal. They insisted I take the rest of the day off. Then that evening said not to come back. Maybe they didn't like me nearly as much as I liked them!
I've had a former employer pull that crap. It made me so gun shy that I flat out refuse to discuss anything about my personal life at work, ever. As for that specific cruise, I'm guessing it was the Liberty 4-day to Freeport and Nassau? That's going to be the first cruise for my wife and I, in January. We're super excited.
Glad you found another job. I do think you should have been upfront about needing to miss a couple of days work for your cruise already booked when you were hired for the job. I would also question a new hire's committment to their job if a few weeks in suddenly they wanted two days vacation time. They don't know you so all they have to go by are your actions when you are new to a job.
I'm a HR Director n I would recommend mentioning it during the interview. If I want to hire u I will either wait for you or start your training b4 your vacation.
It was not the cruise, it was the fact that you mentioned UA-cam. Many people get fired for being on UA-cam. It's viewed as undesirable exposure and risk for your employer.
Okay-so glad you posted his because I’m currently looking for a job and have a cruise planned for November, so this was perfect timing for me. Yes, I would’ve told the new employer at the interview of my cruise plans and would it be an issue, though you take the chance of not being hired but at least you’re being transparent. Barry was a jerk and not a true friend. He was simply on a fishing expedition to get info on you. I would’ve kept all your plans to yourself and just your boss because people can be mean and if Barry was your boss well that couldn’t be helped--he had to know. I have learned to keep my mouth tight lipped because you never know what people’s agendas or motives are. I loved this vlog so thank you for sharing. I do like all your vlogs too🙌⚓️
Tony - you and I work in the same industry -- things like that happen all the time. Very upsetting, but seems like it all worked out for the best. :) Love the LocaFam!
I had an exact experience. It was the you tube channel. I had the same experience. After 2 weeks. Two days beforec I was called by a person I lunched with who said the supervisor was talking about me. And to share less because there are uneasy and jealous people. I don’t brag. And in fact my channels are not under this name. Was told I was doing a great job right until I was asked to go see HR. I had lunch with my supervisor the week before. She asked me what I like to do. Same conversation almost exactly ( but not about cruising). Merrr! Lesson: Don’t overshare.
I totally agree with you Tony, that honesty is the best policy. I too have had jobs where I told them during the interview that I had travel planned and paid for and I never had an issue. This seems like it was just a problem that 'Barry' had, and not anything you did wrong but it still stinks.
It’s not about sharing your personal life. I hire and fire ppl quiet often and if a guy started and told me he had to be off a week after working 3 days I would had let him go right then.
Yes. I got fired from a job several years ago and I still don't know why. Occasionally I see my supervisor and she always acts really scared and will literally run away and I get a good (evil) laugh out of it. I experienced the same sort of depression too. Getting fired really does something to your ego.
I think you correctly answered your own question at the end of this video. While you may have needed or wanted the job badly, some people may consider this to be dishonest--to not tell your new employer that you planned on going on a vacation shortly after you begin your employment. You should have told them during the interview and make it part of your employment bargaining. That's quite a big deal when you can't be at work. If they're desperate for staffing and help, I don't think it would have really mattered whether you were going on a cruise, to Disneyland or even volunteering at an orphanage. As well, an employer may even think if you're not telling me about a simple vacation, what else could you be forgetting or not telling me? I've been in your exact shoes as I've told one potential employer about an upcoming vacation and not wanting to work on Sundays due to religious reasons. I've also been on the "other side", knowing our company is desperate for staff only to find out 2 months after hiring someone, they announce they're going on maternity leave or they leave for another job!
I have always been transparent with jobs about travels in the past. But, in your case I think it wouldn't have mattered. This guy set you up. Sounds like he may have even been jealous. You are a good guy and you enjoy your life with your wife. Some people will dislike you because of how happy and blessed you are.
Wow!! That's why I don't talk about much of my personal life at work. Some are just gathering information to gossip or use later against you. When asked what I'm doing or how was your weekend I just say I didn't do anything. Lol!😁
Hi Tony! 👋🏾 Sounds as if Barry was not necessarily your primary supervisor or head honcho. In either case, he was fishing and you took the bait. In the middle of sharing your passion, you didn't realize he was mentally checking off the boxes and counting activities. Loves to cruise, check; UA-cam channel, check...and made several assumptions based on your lunch time discussion. Total setup. He even sounds a little envious. I totally understand why people are apprehensive about sharing the information. Timing is everything though. Based on when your trip was, you only had to miss a couple of days which would have made for an easy fix. As an HR Professional, I'll say it's best to go ahead and put it out there early. Most candidates share this information after an offer has been made and accepted. Something along the lines of..." I do have travel already planned for blah blah time. Will that present a challenge?" We are then able to make adjustments/training schedule based on that information. Note this information is NOT provided during the interview which is fine. I'm not sure what their set up was in terms of HR, but telling Barry allowed him to control the narrative in terms of how it was communicated to the powers-that-be. Considering that you only missed a couple of days, this could have easily been addressed. Lesson learned I'm sure!
Probably a combination of not telling the consulting company at the very beginning, take time off so soon after starting, and the conversation at lunch with the boss. Live and learn.
You were not totally honest, and did not 'play the game'. You should have told them at the interview. Stop blaming 'Barry'. He may be a jerk, but it was your fault at the outset. Take the responsibility, you could have prevented it.
YES! I was working for an online school through a temp agency. They said they were going to keep me, though didn't believe them. They decided to let everybody leave early on a Friday. Once I left I received a call from the temp agency. Everybody was let go. I thought something was fishy about letting everybody goo early, I grab ALL my personal belongings, I'm glad I did.
I think you let them know at the appropriate time. I have also started jobs with travel already planned and I let them know when offered the job, not at the interview. Also, Barry sounds like the type who doesn't believe in using vacation time and was probably upset because you would be using your vacation time. Everything happens for a reason. 😊
I'm dealing with a similar situation but the circumstances are different. I interviewed with a company two weeks before going on my last cruise. Since the interview didnt happen until almost a month after I applied I had to tell them I had a vacation coming up in two weeks that was already paid for. They said it wouldn't be an issue but upon my return it looks like they halted the hiring process, maybe just to see if I would still be interested. Getting a job in mental health can take a long time so it's been almost a week since we returned and I'm still doing things like online training and competency tests which could have all been done before I left.
Hi! I’ve been watching you guys for awhile & I think this is my first comment! I’ve been fired, it’s a huge thing, it hurts the ego & you’re left with lots of WHY’s. Hindsight is everything, maybe if you hadn’t of mentioned doing UA-cam, maybe? I would never tell an employer that unless we are very close friends because they’ll probably watch the videos & you never know what they will think about your content, especially when they barely know you. Also, because you got another job - I’m a firm believer that things happen for a reason. The job I was fired at (actually I resigned 11 days prior but they wanted to have the last word...it was on a psychiatric unit & my supervisor & the Dir. we’re beyond crazy anyway) I found my next job was AWESOME & I should’ve left said job much sooner because I could’ve started new job sooner. It turned out to be the best position ever were I was promoted within a year & I was valued & respected!!! You guys are looking great by the way!!!
Barry???! If you’re watching.. and, ya’ probably are... you BLEW IT MAN!! I mean, really!!! 🙄 Some people have 💩 for brains Tony.. bless his heart. We love ya!! 💥
I have been the employer and the employee. You were right not to mention the cruise at the interview because you did not know when they wanted you to start. However, when you went to sign on, you should have mentioned your plans. Why? Because your boss had an expectation of you working a reasonable period (1-2 months) before asking for time off. We had a small business and without fail, when we won a big contract that required a lot of overtime (paid time and a half of course) someone would tell me he was taking a week off to go hunting. Not asking but telling. Usually the same person who would not consider taking time off if we were slack. Yes, you have the “freedom” to go on vacation. You also have a professional obligation to your employer that they know you can be counted on to show up for work. Had you told me, the employer your plans, I would have asked that you start work after your cruise vacation, returning relaxed and ready to go.
You should have told them upfront. I hated it when I hired people, expecting them to follow the onboarding schedule that they agreed to, then blindsided me with a vacation they already knew about. After coming back, they didn't remember anything they had learned prior and having to remind/train them from scratch.
Yes to both. You should have told them about your prearranged vacation plans and yes you shared too much with someone you didn't know. I've been in a situation when we hired someone and they told us about her upcoming cruise. We just worked it into her training time.
Yes I agree. Most candidate share this information after we have made an offer and it's been accepted. I find this to be appropriate. At that point we already vested in them and are willing to adjust accordingly.
My old boss fired me, and recommended me to his competitor across town who lost a couple of staff members. Strangely he let me go so his friend could hire me, gave me a glowing recommendation but fired me. I a clueless as to why I was let go, and recommended all in the same phone call. I worked for about a week with the new place and realized I was the recipient of a huge Blessing!
I think you should have talked about your vacation plans when the position was first offered to you. (no, not at the interview). I think you should have told them something like, I am so excited to start work with this company but I do have to mention that I have prepaid vacation plans and ask if that would be a problem. Of course that is my opinion. I have done that many times before starting a new position. ( I always get hired within a month of vacation time, go figure)? That must of been one BIG disappointment.
It happened to me 21 years ago. I started with this dealership and I told them I was getting married and I would be on my honeymoon for just a few days. They told me no problem. I had already been there for three weeks. I come back, by the end of my first week back, they told me they didn't need me anymore.
Maybe you just gave them too much detail. Perhaps stating “I have a prior commitment I can’t cancel” would’ve sufficed. Also, I think Barry baited you.
I think Barry was a jerk but definitely think you should have mention the trip in the hiring process before starting the job
Great advice!
Hear Hear!!
Totally agree! Never trust co-workers. They are not your friends and are often looking for ways to sabotage.
Amanda Absolutely right beware of the smiling assassin
Karen Lazzaro im finding that out too , I don’t even tell people at my old job the true reason I’m taking days off for like my wedding, I put something else , I worked with lots of back stabbing people and gossipers , Racist and pedophiles.... people don’t need to know other people business.
I would have told them that I couldn't start until after the cruise.
Jo Pfetsch that what I’m going to do
Thank you for the advice.
You knew you were being shady #karma

I have had vacation planned after accepting almost every job offer I have had. I do not tell about my vacation plans during the interview but I do right during job offer call. I have not had any problems any of the times.
Barry set you up. Plain and simple. I’m a big believer in Karma and somewhere, sometime, Barry will get his. The Loca Fam is super happy that you guys are thriving!
My sentiments exactly
i have acted as the agent of karma on people like that... when they get called on the carpet because several people called in to complain about one of their employees "harry, larry, barry, something like that" with a nice description, being aggressive and rude to people...dosnt tend to go down very well... and you can string that shit out for months....easy
Sounds like he was just jealous in my book.
I hope Barry watches your videos now and enjoys the great content
Tanner N yeah, Fuck you Barry
I hope Barry got his balls caught on a rusty nail and fell down a staircase into a puddle of cat piss.
The guy was jealous of your side career, your passion, and you not wanting to "LIVE" at the office like he was planning for you.
It was a blessing for you. Best wishes! 👍
I think "Barry" didn't have the Cahoonas to say it to your face so he waited till you weren't around to do his dirty deed.
James
With that in mind, I would have wanted to talk to "Barry" and get his side.
What I’ve done in the past was accept the job on the understanding that I couldn’t start until after a certain date. That way I didn’t have to share anything. It was never a problem.
Good idea unless they absolutely must have you start before and are hard and fast about it.
It's a shame that being honest can bite you in the rear.
totally agree!
Sounds like the guy was a jerk. 1/2 of your cruise was over the weekend. It's not like you missed over a week of work.
Yeah 2 days off. That's what you'd take off if you caught a cold.
Barry is a jerk face maybe it was meant to be
He took off Thursday and Friday. That's a good part of the work week.
In reality, "Barry" is the classic passive-agressive, wimp manager. Instead of being honest, he weaseled out and used the staffing company to do his dirty work. I've been in management for 17+ years and being straightforward and honest will always get you the respect, even if you have to deliver bad news.
I think you over shared a bit. I never provide that much detail to new colleagues, especially about another income stream.
Same! It's ridiculous
That’s a shame but honestly. This was a great story!!! Never keep your passion close to the best! That’s why we love you guys!
No way to know whether it was not saying it up front or making it sound like you might be gone a lot.
Dude, the job was not meant for you. Live, Love, Laugh. Screw the rest. Love your videos. Keep cruising!
I feel it made them insecure or it challenged notions that upper management is the exotic vacationing class, not the bums on the bottom.
better happened early than late; do not stay in a job where they don't want you
WOW!! Didn’t realize you guys lived so close to us! We’re in Gaston Co. and going on our VERY FIRST cruise in September on Carnival Magic to the Southern Caribbean!! We love your channel with all the most detailed info, specially for the new/first time cruisers. A lot of stuff we probably just wouldn’t have thought of
The world is full of Barrys. I guess that I just have to say, “Don’t let the ‘Barrys’ get you down.”
One of the first videos I watched from your channel and still one of my favorites.
Great video. Have fun on your next cruise. Thanks for posting this. Have a nice day.
I feel you should have told them up front. And never let to much information out when first meeting anyone.
Literally every professional job I’ve had since college I had a trip planned before I started. I’ve always told them either at the interview or when they officially offer me the job. It’s never been an issue. Honesty is definitely the best policy.
"Sometimes in life you've got to play the game" man I need to learn that rule.
I’ve given up and made my own game. That’s the hidden option. :) - Tony
I've been in similar situations. I'd still choose cruising over anything else. Love your passion for the industry! ⚓✊
The corporate lackey is jealous that you have life outside the prison cell I mean office.
Life can change in an instant often unexpected - enjoy your passion ! Jobs will come and go
At some point in your work life you are going to have a bad boss.
I would have told them at the interview for sure. I've been at my job for a few years and I always secure my time off bc I don't trust people
That’s crazy and ironic !
Barry was definitely a jerk. I think he just wanted to go on a cruise too!
Barry couldn’t deal with your honesty and being blunt. He did you a favor don’t want to work around someone like that. Look at you now😀
I’d say lack of upfront. I had a cruise planned for month after starting another job and told them when they made their offer. They still wanted me
i face that conundrum of being fired over a cruise every year.
Wow that’s crazy! - Tony
Love the transparency - everything happens for a reason.
Great videos! Was wondering I teach Ballroom are there any Ballroom Cruises?
I haven’t seen any Ballroom cruises but on Princess we did see several people doing formal dance in the music venues.
It was not the cruise, it was the fact that you mentioned UA-cam. Many people get fired for being on UA-cam. It's viewed as undesirable exposure and risk for your employer.
I agree with this so much!
I was thinking the same thing
yup
Love your channel !! Very nice editing as well
I had an exact experience.
But this boss not only didn't let him go- he encouraged him to go. So he was hired by a liar.
It was 2 days
I would never tell an employer that I have a UA-cam channel.
I wonder if “Barry” got in trouble for not meeting a deadline and used you as a scapegoat.
Some people have 💩 for brains Tony.. bless his heart.
I had a vacation soon after getting hired. I told them the circumstances & it was fine.
You should have told them upfront. I hated it when I hired people, expecting them to follow the onboarding schedule that they agreed to, then blindsided me with a vacation they already knew about. After coming back, they didn't remember anything they had learned prior and having to remind/train them from scratch.
Badd Barry. But, corporate Barry won’t be eating a world famous lobster roll in a month or so. He’ll be behind a desk. Who’s better off?
Great video. My wife and I are leaving for a cruise on aug. 15 out of Charleston.
Very cool. I do want to go out of Charleston at some point. It’s so close.
He did that.
Got to be upfront from the start, you are amazing. I tell my 3 boys to learn from every day, the good the bad and the ugly. 🤠
