Take magnetic hooks and a USB fan so that you can hang up your wet clothes around the metal walls and let the fan blow them dry while you do other things like go to MDR, and come back to dry clothing. The shower hanging gets items out of the way, unseen, but it takes days for the clothes to dry and there is less space compared to the wall. Stay in a hotel the night before and drive instead of fly when possible.
Several times my wife and I skipped the tours and simply had a taxi driver show us the sights. We have some happy memories of meeting interesting taxi drivers and having a private tour.
Just came from a cruise and did a mix of both. Uber driver in Amsterdam was great. Taxi in Lisbon totally ripped us off. Barely even spoke during the drive.
I can see it about shore excursions, especially if you've been there before. We rented a car our 2nd time in Skagway and we were able to explore a lot more places than just taking a single excursion like the train trip we did before. But at least we didn't get stranded by a rock slide like what happened a few weeks later! Great video idea Tony!
Hey Tony, thanks for the good tips even for us old seasoned cruisers!! Best advice, pack your patience and remember to respect all people!! Even the rude stupid ones😅😅
Non A-I bad advice I got as a first time cruiser: you don’t need a passport. Technically sometimes, maybe but you will be in a world of hurt if something happens on a shore excursion and you don’t have a passport
When I first started cruising I’m pretty sure I was an a ship with a lot of first time cruisers, myself included. Waaay back then we didn’t have technology and you didn’t know how much you spent till you got a statement under your door the second from the last night. The next day the ship was pretty glum with a lot of comments like “looks like my party’s over”.
Yes, you can find places on the cruise ship to relax outside every day; chairs a bit of a walk towards to aft or decks other than the pool are rarely crowded. Also, there will be activities on Sea Days. Trivia, dance classes, contests are just the beginning of activities on a Sea Day.
About to go on cruise number 15 and I think I’ve finally got this packing thing right. Not under packed. Not over packed. Packed just right this time. I feel like Goldilocks! ☺️😂
When it comes to the question of watching cruise videos….I wish all cruisers (especially new cruisers) did their homework by watching the many videos like yours that are out there. We would probably have a lot less incidents of rude behaviour, drunken brawls (maybe) , loud blue tooth speakers, smoking on balconies, letting your kids run wild etc etc etc. there is so much great advice out there that there shouldn’t be any excuse for some of the bad behaviour that we now see on cruises. Then again…some people are just born obnoxious. “You can take the boy out of the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the boy” seems to be the prevailing problem these days.
Agree totally with your thoughts except analogy may fail...I think hard working ag. kids may be among your best cruise partners and be way more educated in getting along with others than is realized. This comes from everyone being needed to show up and help and survive larger disasters and annual needs of all farms or ranches affecting the community and country schools. I know I am taking too literal...and my thought may be more 40 years ago...I hope not.
@ the quote was from a long time ago. It had nothing to do with farm boys and more with the idea that you could give someone everything ….money, clothes, schooling , a job etc. and they would suddenly become good and caring people. Hence, you can’t take someone out of an environment they have grown up in and expect them to change .
LA "IA" LOCA I would for sure research the area before exploring on foot. Might as well use the resources at our fingertips. Have a wonderful weekend Tony
Not budgeting for transportation costs from and to your home city. I usually remember this after I have booked the cruise and then have to scramble to get the funds. In my experience the cruise fare is sometimes less than half of the total cost of your vacation. (Unless you live close to the cruise port.)
I do recommend checking charges daily. I had incorrect charges 4 times on my last cruise. They were removed but had I not notified customer service I would have paid for drinks I didn't order.
As far as sun loungers go, i look for lougers away from the pool, usually on a deck above that face the ocean. I really dont understand the desire to face inwards at a small pool filled with stangers who, how can i say this delicately, arent model material.
Hi Sara Its important that when visiting the robo bar tender not to order vodka as you may be deemed to be a double agent. Robo bar tenders are also amenable to double tipping, failure to do so may be.......detrimental. 😮
Watch cruise videos before you sail I have learned so much from the 3-4 I watch. I can de ide which ones will work for me and which ones are not for old people.
It goes both ways. One thing I usually do when visiting a city when I have not been there before is ask AI "What would I do in _________ if I only had one day?".
Tony, I think the ignore Embarkation time goes back to when everyone arrived as early as possible. Nowadays cruise lines stagger check in at terminal times; if you have a 12pm checkin time and arrive at 11am you will be required to wait outside the terminal.
We've been to Alaska so much, we only do the Salmon Bake excursion cause we like the food. Otherwise....we're wandering about on our own. Getting off the main streets and find ourselves a little local restaurants..... it's the best.

That was a really fun video. It's almost more entertaining when the call to action doesn't. Have a good segue - sometimes the humor of just jamming it in there every once in awhile comes across well
What is the best cruise insurance for people in their 80s? We have some travel insurance but it requires a person to pay out of pocket and then make a claim. Thank you for any suggestions you may have. 😊
We often cruise with a couple or two and have found our best excursion were set up for just us. Of course, more $$, but have enjoyed them more and they are quicker, and personal, than waiting for 40 or 50 people on buses to get off, then back on, at each stop
I can’t imagine showing up late! I’m early for everything when it comes to cruising. And anytime I’ve showed up early for embarkation I’ve been allowed to get on the ship early.

Our last cruise on NCL, the ship's wifi went down for just over a day. So, the phone app was useless. Good thing we had the patter or it would have been more frustrating.
Bring your big blue tooth speaker - all the other cruisers will love your loud hip-hop music! NO, PLEASE leave those at home! We need to be able to hear important announcements over the P.A. and not your booming bass! Thank you! Great list Tony! :)
I was much happier with the private tour that I booked for myself, or even the days of exploring for myself, than with the cruise line shore excursion.
I checked online to take a shuttle from LAX to Long Beach. Turns out the online was wrong. I stood for hours waiting for the shuttle only to be told it didn’t go there. I went to a shuttle podium and her phone device wasn’t working. She wanted me to walk quite a distance. Instead I took an expensive taxi.
Just a nit...WiFi is included on most cruises. However, Internet access is normally extra cost. So, you can use the cruise line app but can't watch Tony on YT :-). Hit that subscribe button folks 😃
WiFi access is different from Internet access. Connecting to Wi-Fi on a ship doesn’t usually cost anything however, if you want access to the outside world, you need Internet access.
Come on Tony...... As a previous IT professional, you definitely know that 'WiFi' is included!!!! Internet is NOT. Many people don't fully understand the difference between WiFi, Internet, and Cellular. Maybe you should do a video on those differences.
