Hey Jason, thanks so much for the super helpful video. I’m sailing on the Harmony in July and have a balcony Boardwalk view. I’m worried about being able to enjoy my balcony at my size without feeling self-conscious since I’ve been reading that there’s almost no privacy on these balconies. My cabin is close enough to watch the aqua theater too and am looking forward to that :-) did you feel like you had enough privacy in the cabin and balcony? I’ll be in the cabin alone as well.
Hello! There definitely is a lack of privacy when on the balcony. Your neighbors can easily see into your balcony and everyone across the way can as well. Same thing with the cabin if your blackout curtains are not closed. Depending on your comfort level, some men would go on their balcony in their shorts with no shirt, or some women would sun bathe from the balcony and didn’t care if everyone could see them. But it’s a trade off from the ocean view balcony where you have a lot more privacy. I think it’s worth it to stay in a boardwalk view room if you grab one in the back and can see the show, it truly is an amazing experience. But i think I would go with an ocean view balcony if the room wasn’t located near the theater. Either way though you’ll have a blast on the cruise and remember to take advantage of using your desk chair on the balcony! It was a lot more comfortable!
Hi there! :) I read your comment and just wanted to say, I hope you have a wonderful cruise with a lot o positive, amazing experiences and memories! :) Actually, a friend of mine did the same and she was also on her own. @@TheJasonOtoole thanks, Jason! Your content is just fantastic and has really helped me. @@patinastudiodesign6040 awesome! I really hope you enjoy the cabin and cruise! I just got off mariner and will have some cruise related videos coming out over the next few weeks as well.
Thanks, Jason, I’m a big kid too. 6 foot three and 400 pounds and change. I find a lot of things difficult. I am mobility impaired so I use a wheeled walker. Hope to see you on a cruise sometime!
I’m a small woman 130 pounds but I have disabilities and mobility issues. Some of the same problems affect people with arthritis and balance issues on a cruise. Thank you for your honesty.
Hi, good post. I'm also a larger person. I have some mobility issues. I generally use a scooter to get around on the ship because I can't walk distances, and I have balance issues, too. Regarding the cabin bathroom, because we don't always get an accessible cabin, I've resorted to using the shower at the ladies' locker room because there is a accessible stall with a bench. I make due with the toilet area in our cabin, but it's not the best for me. So far, I haven't had too much trouble with seating around the ships, but I agree that the balcony chairs are usually too narrow and uncomfortable for me.
Yeah for some reason the balcony chairs on the Independence of the seas are wider and I love it. The newer ships all seem to have the narrow balcony chairs.
If you can’t walk far without having to use a scooter you should probably take some time to work on your health before complaining and expecting everyone to work around you. The reason things are to narrow and uncomfortable is because humans are not meant to be that big. It’s not natural nor healthy. There’s a difference between being a large person and being morbidly obese. A large person might be taller or have denser bones which makes them bigger, stronger and taller. If you can’t walk without the use of a scooter you are not a larger person. You are morbidly obese
I totally understand your struggle .I live w chronic illness and have no energy for anything AND have a very restrictive diet that makes cruising pretty boring .
I’m a small woman 130 pounds but I have disabilities and mobility issues. Some of the same problems affect people with arthritis and balance issues on a cruise
You had a lot of helpful information....it's been years and a lot of pounds since I last cruised but I enjoyed it very much. My first was on Royal Carribean but I weighed maybe 80 pounds less then, in the neighborhood of 250 and didn't experince many proglems but most definitely would now. You've made me think very hard before I consider booking a new one but I sure would love to.
That’s his problem,he’s not ashamed of his obesity! Fat exceptance is not going to motivate him to eat healthier and extend his life.Being on a cruise ship is the worst place to be with a food addiction. Period!!
Thank you so muxh for sharing your difficulties with being overweight. My husband and I are both overweight and have had similar problems. The worst part is feeling like there are people watching and criticizing every bite you eat or drink. I dont eat as much as some of my thinner friends but always feel like I'm being judged. Again thank you for sharing.😊😊😊
Yes, I am a people watcher and I do wonder how folks who are overweight manage to fit in the shower on a cruise. To each their own. I just have another drink because I am on the ship to enjoy my experience, just as u are there to enjoy yours. Looking forward to 2 cruises lined up for 2025!
Awesome! Yeah enjoy the freedom of the seas! Best advice is if the outdoor seats aren’t comfy bring it the desk chair since those don’t have arms. Have fun!
My sister is obese - I think 350 - 400lbs. and for many years I have wished she would lose weight for her health and to be able to do fun things. She claims an eating disorder and carb addiction. She hates flying due to seatbelt extenders and says she is too "afraid of the water" to cruise. I give you credit for cruising and enjoying life. Thank you for your video.
Chairs with Arms are the worst. When I was on Oasis last year I had to request and armless chair in every restaurant. I'm 6'2" 450 and it was a bit embarrassing waiting for them to get me a chair
What I do is go beforehand to the specialty dining places or MDR and ask them beforehand. I also see if there’s a specific table I might like (I like to be out of the way). But Chops, Giovanni’s, and 150 Central Park all have those tables that have one chair and the other is the sofa up against the wall. Those work well, although there is not always a lot of room to squeeze between tables. But the hosts all knew I was coming so I was able to get the table on the end of the sofa. Everything works well with pre-planning. They are always very accommodating on the Oasis.
I’m with you on many of these things Jason. I am 6’3” and 500lbs. I have many of the same issues as you. I will say that I actually did find that some of the public bathroom had larger stalls. Especially near the elevators on deck 6 near the Schooner Bar. Quite frankly, that one was a lifesaver for me as it took me several days to find a way to maneuver a way to use the cabin toilet. And in regards to the MDR - the first day we went to the head waiter and specifically requested a table for two (just my wife and me) and a chair with no arms. They had some and that chair was at our table every night of the cruise. The same with the specialty dining. You can get chairs with no arms or those tables that have one chair and the sofa seating. Even at Johnny Rockets one of the staff went over to Playmakers and got me a chair with no arms when he saw me struggling. Royal is very accommodating with their passengers. Whatever they can do, they will. And their crew is the best. You just have to ask and be a little pro-active. Living this way is indeed difficult.
Yeah being overweight definitely makes some things more challenging, but as long as you come in with the expectations set we can make it work! And like you said being proactive helps a lot! I’m heading on independence of the seas this next weekend, and excited to see how that ship compares to the freedom and oasis!
@@TheJasonOtoole it’s definitely a learning experience with each new cruise. I’ve only been on 2 so far and the next one this June. First in a Junior Suite on the Adventure of the Seas. That was pre-COVID and I was aimost 100lbs lighter. I’m not sure if the bathroom was bigger, but the shower was a tub/shower combo which does provide more room and the toilet was angled instead of straight and stuck back like in the room you showed. My next cruise was last October on the Oasis of the Seas in a standard balcony cabin and it was a difference. Being bigger with the bathroom just like you showed was a challenge. My saving Grace was my cabin was 20 steps from the public restroom in the hallway near the elevators and it had a couple larger stalls. Regarding the shower size too - always remember there are larger showers in the fitness center. They are private and more people use them than you would think. Have a good time on your upcoming cruise.
I wish ud shown us how to get up off the low toilets when there's no grab rails. I've got mobility probs plus I'm fat and elderly. Thus I'm worried if I'll cope on a cruise.
@@tracyharris1739 haven’t had to yet thankfully. I live in Florida so all the ports are within driving distance. I haven’t been on a plane in years and hopefully the next time I need to get on one I’ll weigh a lot less!
I feel bad for you. Maybe time for seriously consider weight management. Start slow but start, you are a young man and deserve a good happy life too! 💪😉👏
With the bathrooms, I agree... I personally am unable to walk and am on a mobility scooter. If theres someone using the accessible bathroom without need, then I am stuck waiting and there are times where I am not reallt able to wait all that long...
Maybe the person using the accessible bathroom also could not wait. And decided to just go instead of peeing their pants in case a person who (also) “needed” the bathroom came by
The UA-cam algorithm must have recommended this video to a lot of people recently like myself. The only alternative I can give you, is that you have to lose the weight. I was pushing nearly 300 pounds as a 5'4 woman and life was becoming much more difficult do do any of the basic things let alone travel. After shedding tremendous weight I was able to fit in a plane seat, walk further distances and actually enjoy things.
@@Jo-vf7qi Who the hell chooses to be obese? Think about what you’ve just said…do you think someone wakes up one morning and decides to be obese? Do you think it’s an easy way to live? Let me guess…they should just eat less, right? So, I’m assuming you think people “choose” to be anorexic? So why bother with them, they should just eat more…right? You are uneducated and unnecessarily cruel with your remarks.
Its a very delicate, sensitive subject. Obviously there are obvious restrictions to cruising in this case so why play denial of fact. I would go to a land based resort with a lot fewer restrictions to my mobility. If I were 6'6" I would not sign up for submarine duty. I, as have others, had/have issues as well that limit our choices throughout life. Knowing the sizes of washroom alone would totally eliminate my choice of type of holiday. 🚢
I sailed on Wonder of the Seas this past June (2024) and I weigh around 350 lbs. I too had issues fitting into some of the chairs and with the toilet situation. I squeezed into the chairs in the dining room, and though it wasn't as comfortable, it wasn't painful. I did kind of a twist myself out of the chair, and fortunately our table was next to the entrance of the dining room so there wasn't a problem with other tables nearby. As far as the bathroom situation, if I had to go #2, I often found myself going to the public restrooms and having to use the handicap stall when it was available. It worked out alright, but frankly, sometimes those stalls, where the door is automated were difficult to open.
You have listed dozens of things you cannot do, need special help and are personally embarrassing, on a cruise. How much fun can it be? Do you fly commercially?
Any info about the slides? Thanks for your video. I am very sad I won't be able to do the zipline at excursions. It's a real bummer. I plan to try to lose some weight but even then, it wouldn't be enough.
If I recall correctly the slides on the cruise ships for RCCL had a weight limit of right around 300lbs. I think it varies just slightly depending on the slide though. I don’t know about the water park coco cay though.
Jason how would i best find a way to make a bidet? I heed to soak after the toilet due to a rear end disability.ships dont seem to have bidets. And I'm too fat and immobile to squat low over a bowel. How would you do it? I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks. X
I’m not sure if there would be a way to use a bidet with the toilets there, but I believe some staterooms on Royal ships do have bidets but they are the full suites. I would reach out to rccl to confirm though. Other option too would be to bring a portable bidet and get an accessible room which has hand rails and more space in the restroom area. Hope this helps, and happy cruising!
Cruises are one vacation that overweight people can enjoy. It would benefit the cruise line to accommodate them. Maybe charge a bit more to cover the money lost with fewer passengers?
Not trying to be amusing, but I'm sure you know what your alternatives are.....I am concerned about 20% morbidly obese cruise passengers particularly from the standpoint of emergency preparedness/egress for 5,000 or more passengers should the need arise....
Very informative post, but this video would garnish more hits, likes, & subscribers if you posted a video of you participating in FlowRider activities. Bless you!
And your that ignorant to believe, that obesity is caused by medication,What fantasy world do you live in! You know exactly what causes obesity, the reality is this man’s life is at stake here and being on a cruise ship is the worst environment to be with an eating disorder.
well if it was medication you would think the doctor would change to something else knowing how unhealthy the medication is especially if a person goes from overweight to severe obesity. So I am thinking that is not the root cause.
Showers are about the same size as many of the showers in older truck stops so I’m use to that. As for the people watching and judging me, I’m someone who for decades lived the old school biker lifestyle I’m use to being judged due to my tattoos etc. biggest problem is chairs and vehicles outside of North America.
The things mentioned can happen anywhere. So what do you want companies to do? As far as weight limits are concerned, the same complaint applies to amusement parks. These are questions to ask your travel agent. People stare, get over it.
The weight limits on chairs and exercise equipment not to mention the gawking from other people -never mind the health risks I was inviting and plain difficulty just walking would be MORE than enough incentive for me to lose a LOT of weight as quickly as possible and change my diet over from a dehydrating high fat high protein cooked diet to a water rich high raw fruit and veg diet pronto! Water fasting can be a GREAT tool for the obese because they have so much fat stored up, that can much more easily than a leaner person, go for many weeks at a time just drinking water. Loren Lockman a water fasting expert with a center in Costa Rica called Tanglewood has many videos about it.
I disagree. I’m disabled due to lung and heart problems. Can’t walk much at all. But I feel that obesity is a handicap. I don’t judge that at all. It doesn’t matter why you can’t walk much. You are paying to have a pleasant time, and you should be accommodated as much as possible.
Most of the problems that you talk about is due to you and not the ship. You should ask yourself, want can I do for me to enjoy the cruise and life in general.

@@TheJasonOtoole thanks, Jason! Your content is just fantastic and has really helped me. I took your words to heart and ended up changing my cabin, now I’m at the very end of the ship, the last cabin overlooking Boardwalk, looking directly over the Aqua Theater, #8329. I’ve got the desk chair-> balcony idea on my list of things to remember. Thank you so much for being so thoughtful and offering such great content!

Thank you for sharing
Question do you bring your own scooter or rent from ship. 1st time for us in May.. I considered a walker/wheelchair
lose weight
Scooter on a ship...what has our nation become?
Thank you so much for the info, im sure it will help me on my next cruise ❤
@@beverlyphillips8572 thank you! I would highly recommend booking one. Even being overweight I absolutely love cruising still!
Thanks for making this video!
Thank for addressing this issue, you are a brave man, not ashamed of your size, God bless you, and enjoy traveling.
Seriously, spoken like someone overweight
That’s his problem,he’s not ashamed of his obesity! Fat exceptance is not going to motivate him to eat healthier and extend his life.Being on a cruise ship is the worst place to be with a food addiction. Period!!
Thank you so muxh for sharing your difficulties with being overweight. My husband and I are both overweight and have had similar problems. The worst part is feeling like there are people watching and criticizing every bite you eat or drink. I dont eat as much as some of my thinner friends but always feel like I'm being judged. Again thank you for sharing.😊😊😊
Thank you for this!!
You’re very welcome!
Hello from an O'Toole on my mother's side of the family.
Thanks so much for this video! ❤
Very nice video, very helpful. Awesome shirt!
I love this! I am sailing on Freedom of the Seas soon and I was hoping I could fit in the balcony seats.
Awesome! Yeah enjoy the freedom of the seas! Best advice is if the outdoor seats aren’t comfy bring it the desk chair since those don’t have arms. Have fun!
The ncl escape had great shower setups in balcony from setup, non suite.
They are always very accommodating on the Oasis.
put down the food
@@KaffeStein you do realize your comment was stupid, right? If not, it was :)
@@pylgrymkid you sound overweight
For showers check out the gym. Many have showers that have more room to mover around
Awesome man thank you
Great video. I learned a lot. Take care.
I did the exact same thing with the inside chair too.
A spa pass is a great investment for using their showers
I haven’t done that before myself, but I have heard it’s a great option for showers!
Great video.
I wish ud shown us how to get up off the low toilets when there's no grab rails. I've got mobility probs plus I'm fat and elderly. Thus I'm worried if I'll cope on a cruise.
No, we don’t want to see that. Disgusting enough watching this.
how do you tackle the plane bathrooms that is my biggest fear TY
Yes...too many public venues do not accommodate the larger sized person!
Can you understand why? Where do you accommodate to,400,600,800?
@@kathleenpullano3848 you said it Kathleen. People choose to be obese. Why should the rest of us need to accommodate them.
"Size inclusive" is actually a term now.
Ridiculous to have to accommodate those who chose to do this to their selves.
Educate yourself. It’s not a choice
Anyone know how the seats are on the RC shuttle to Disney/universal from Cape Canaveral?
Sorry, no.
Thank for this video
Great information 😊
When you have to start SQUEEZING into chairs, maybe it’s time for the gym.
Spa showers are huge.

Ask your room steward if they have an optional chair option for your deck. They usually do
'Optional chair option'....
Great honest video and hopefully will encourage to lose some LBS like I have
Why would a heavy person choose cruising where food is free and available 24/7. Why not choose a health spa for a week.
Thank you for sharing this I am a bigger girl and that toilet is a big problem
For Royal Caribbean, the Main Dining Room has a few chairs with no arms on them. Next time ask a waiter to bring you one.
Being overweight is not a disability, I have had 27 surgeries after a career in law enforcement and I am truly disabled.
So helpful!!
Weight limit of 275lbs? That's double what I weigh. I would say I'm average so there must be an awful lot of very overweight people so I'm puzzled.
Cruises are one vacation that overweight people can enjoy. It would benefit the cruise line to accommodate them. Maybe charge a bit more to cover the money lost with fewer passengers?
It’s no one fault due to weight limit
God bless you
People are so mean I went with my daughter which was overweight they started with the name calling she has not gone back then 😢
Thank you so much!
Not trying to be amusing, but I'm sure you know what your alternatives are.....I am concerned about 20% morbidly obese cruise passengers particularly from the standpoint of emergency preparedness/egress for 5,000 or more passengers should the need arise....
Whatever happened to you nutrisystem Journey you were doing so great
Thank you
Very informative post, but this video would garnish more hits, likes, & subscribers if you posted a video of you participating in FlowRider activities. Bless you!
C' mon people. Cut the insult comments. Not everyone gets fat cuz of overeating. Did you ever think its caused by medication? Ignoramus. Cut the shit.
Wrong. Root cause is always a caloric excess. Reasons why will vary from person to person.
@echogl. “She claims”…..that says all I need to know about you. I’m sorry your sister has you as a relative.
Trying not to be unkind, but how many of these activities do overweight people do at home?
Showers are about the same size as many of the showers in older truck stops so I’m use to that. As for the people watching and judging me, I’m someone who for decades lived the old school biker lifestyle I’m use to being judged due to my tattoos etc. biggest problem is chairs and vehicles outside of North America.
The things mentioned can happen anywhere. So what do you want companies to do? As far as weight limits are concerned, the same complaint applies to amusement parks. These are questions to ask your travel agent. People stare, get over it.
Something might have happened to this video, I'm not sure. It sounds like you're finishing up..and yep, that was it!
Pardon me! I hit replay & heard the whole thing! Thanks Jason!
Good video
Obesity is not a disability. Please don’t book disability cabins they are needed by people with mobility difficulties
I agree, I am truly disabled
Your wrong.
I disagree. I’m disabled due to lung and heart problems. Can’t walk much at all. But I feel that obesity is a handicap. I don’t judge that at all. It doesn’t matter why you can’t walk much. You are paying to have a pleasant time, and you should be accommodated as much as possible.
*you're
Most of the problems that you talk about is due to you and not the ship. You should ask yourself, want can I do for me to enjoy the cruise and life in general.
I used terzepitide , no longer obese, problem solved . If you can afford to cruise you can afford it
"current information"?????....you KNOW the answer to this...

You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
At the cruise ship buffet you can make that happen…
Were you overweight before the cruise or did you gain all that weight on the cruise?
I have a hard time believing that people would spend that much money to cruise for the purpose of people watching:
I think you grossly overweight people misunderstand something: People are not disgusted or turned off by your being overweight. Its amusing to people to see a grossly overweight person doing a physical activity like rock climbing or zipline. No one is putting you down. If you believe that, you just want to feel sorry for yourself or you want to provoke sympathy: But its not true. Just because we find your appearance amusing doesn't mean we don't respect you. If I see a little person who's a sheriff I'm going to be amused but I'm going to respect him more, not less.
If you are obese you can still eat.
Yes, but don’t park your butt at the buffet all day.
Yeh, but eat one slice of pizza instead of the entire pizza.
