    This channel is part of the International Association of Facial Growth Guidance. A nonprofit organisation which aims to raise awareness of alternative orthodontic methods and ideas, which too few people are informed of.
    The main aim of the platform is to precipitate debate on why teeth are crooked. Most people are not aware that (in most cases) the dental profession has little or no idea why the teeth are crooked, or for that matter why children need major surgery. Clearly there are genetic issues, however the science is clear, the weight of quality research papers, in respected peer reviewed journals, show that our modern lifestyle is a more important factor and most importantly we can do something about this.
    This is especially important as sleep apnoea, TMD, forward head posture and a most otolaryngology problems are implicated as other symptoms of the same underlying problem.

    This channel also acts as a forum to make openly, speculative suggestions, to find common ground with other professionals (in both related and seemingly unrelated fields), educated lay people and members of the public at large, to either support or detract on the information provided, but either way engage in the scientific process. In the pursuit of the truth it is normal in science to make speculative comments which may not have full scientific support, and we welcome feedback and discussion.
    In general, the videos posted on this web site are not advertisements, and will clearly be labelled as such if necessary. Apart from educational books, the association does not sell anything or encourage anyone to have any form of treatment. It does aim to make people think, consider all options, ask questions and become fully informed.
    Much of what is discussed on this site is not available from even the registered members, however a list of members is available on the web site, orthotropics.com.
    Orthotropics essential means straight or correct growth. If your faces grows well it tends to work well. The concept is based on the Tropic Premise; www.watkinsden...
    The underlying pathology of malocclusion and the related symptoms is referred to as Craniofacial Dystrophy;
    www.nature.com/...
    The association feels that it should be possible to prevent or at least minimise the level of craniofacial dystrophy through simple public health measures.

      im 21 - incredible changes with consistent practice. Use the oxygen advantage program with your Mewing. Chew 20 pieces of gum together 3X a week for 20 - 30 min each session , tongue on roof of the mouth and mew push swallow when eating. Follow Functional Patterns for posture training, you'll be a different person in a few months

    I've been mewing for 3 months and the results are astounding! I'm 14 and my worst moment was actually not being able to close my mouth at all. At that point I've been wearing an appliance practically every day!
    I'm still struggling with my teeth and a terribly narrow palate but hopefully with some more persistence it will get even better.

  • @poleag
    @poleag 5 років тому +40

    Why loan a $1,000 device to a patient just to determine if he's sleeping with his mouth open? He can record himself sleeping with his laptop's webcam: $0. Or you can lend him a $20 webcam. Or a more low-tech solution: ask a spouse or someone living in the same house to check. $0. These methods have the added benefit of being far more accurate than comparing sets of data from a device operated by a fumbling mouthbreather.

    • @ario9907
      @ario9907 5 років тому

      poleag the true purpose of keeping your mouth closed is to seal the lips so that the body would have no choice but to breathe out through the nose and that's just step 1, Step 2 which is the important part is to keep the tongue on the roof of the mouth in the correct posture and placement throughout the entire night and you can't see that through an external capture source.

    What do you think of chewing with your mouth open? (still breathing through your nose and only when alone at home of course )
    All mammals do it, our ancestors probably did too.
    It should give you more range of motion and way less buccinator, lip, chin muscle (=> mandible fold) activation compared to chewing with your mouth closed.

    Hi,my father has a very strong chin,his lips are like those of a fish,and the chin still protrude over them;my mother,despite being a woman, has a strong chin too while I have an average or even bad one.
    The chin almost reaches the under lip,if I started mewing,how much time would I need to see good results?

When I woke up 8 hours later it was still on my lips- and they aren’t particularly sticky. It had dried out on my mouth though which was painful to remove!

It was much better when you had the tape on your lips, it allowed the man to speak without you cutting him off and talking over him. I find your interviewing style too dominant over this gentleman. Most people listen with the intent to reply, instead of listening to understand. That is what is coming across with your interview, ie. you already know the stuff and you are just using him to confirm your views. It is an interview with him, so interview him.

  • @hannanshah

    Taping my mouth with 3M tape every night has made a major impact on my health. I have been a mouth breather all of my life, I always had a stuffy nose, I woke up tired every morning due to poor quality sleep despite sleeping for hours and even had mornings with a gassy digestive system. Now because the tape is forcing me to breathe through my nose every night I wake up refreshed, am needing less sleep as the sleep quality has improved, I have a clear nose which means I can carry on nose breathing throughout the day with no problems and no gassy stomach issues in the morning. I have been doing this for several months. I notice a clear difference on the odd day I forget to put tape on or lose my tape. I am not yet in a position to stop using the tape as the mouth ends up being open at night but the tape is a simple solution.

      @@zyzznatural2330 I noticed that mouth breathing led to dry mouth and poor quality sleep. I could sleep for 8 hours and yet still feel tired. Taping my mouth meant I was forced to breathe through my nose. Nasal breathing is the proper way and ensures greater oxygen intake and it made a massive difference. Better quality sleep, no longer feeling tired when waking up and no dry mouth

      When I tape my mouth for sleep, it is a small enough piece of tape and is loose enough that it helps remind me to nose breathe while sleeping but if I were to open my mouth wide, my mouth still easily opens and the sides are also not taped up (so open on both sides).

    Hello Mike. Thank you for yet another brilliant video concerning the topic of proper facial form and orthotropic principles. I have one question regarding how to maintain proper head, neck and spinal alignment while reading a book. I have considered getting a book holder to be able to hold the book at eye level, or I could stick to reading ebooks (maybe not so great on the eyes). What is the best way, in your opinion to counter the issue of having to look down while reading, as one's arms get tired as holding the book at eye level? And another question I have would be, what do you think of standing desks as apposed to sitting desks under the framework of orthotropics?
