Hotham Valley Railway, commenced it's Steam Ranger service, for the 2024 steam season, today.12 May.

  • Videoed on Mother's Day, Sunday 12th May 2024.
    A special treat, d/e loco, XA1401, was added to the normal train consist make up, of steam loco W945 and d/e F40, with the 5 coaches.
    Filming locations are at the 'top crossing' on the Pinjarra Williams Road. On the 2pm Dwellingup - Isandra trip. With fire truck, following.
    Then, next scene of the Steam Ranger, tackling the steep grades, between 'bottom crossing' and 'top crossing'. Returning back to Dwellingup.
    Fire restrictions, prevented HVR from commencing its annual Steam Ranger tourist trains, the previous Sunday, 5th May.

      Thanks, Dave. Yeah the gradients are 1 in 40 on these steepest sections of the line. They are hoping to get another W class steam loco up and running this year.

      Western Australia train scene so will they bring W920 out of the sheds and put W945 in the sheds at dwellingup?

      Yeah, putting aside the W class as a vintage aged loco. Both the XA, belching out plumes of exhaust smoke. And F40, have a lot of history themselves. And yep, F40 loudest rumble of the forests!😃
